Question about personal domain support

iWeb '08 said it has support for "personal domains". Wondering what this means.
Specifically, I'd like to build my web site and click "publish" and have it go to my personal web site -- probably by configuring some ftp settings or something. Does iWeb '08 have this sort of support?
Currently I have to export the site to a directory and then manually upload to the remote site. Would be great if there was a one-click solution for publish/synchronizing the site.

I also have 3 sites I've purchased through godaddy all for a grand total of $25....only had great luck with the whole process!
When I forward my site to the .mac it does mask the name for all the pages...I was wondering if the metatag section next to the masking made a difference to the names of all the pages, but I didn't know what to type in there...hence all of my pages just say dekeyserelementary too.
I'd love to know if you figure out how to change that!
It does look like my counters don't work when the pages were being masked. Know anything about that?
My other site, I didn't choose masking so once you type in my name.com it turns in to the .mac site address, but that doesn't seem to be a big deal.

Sounds like an odd question but my phone will connect to BT Openzone so I want to share that with my iPad via personal hotspot. I could use 3G but then it comes off my data allowance and I don't want to have to buy a separate SIM for my iPad if I can avoid it. I can swap my sim from my phone, but that's a pain!

No, unfortunately Personal Hotspot will only use your 3G plan.

Question about Creative Cloud Support

I believe I still have about 20 days left of the original support that came with my subscription to Creative Cloud. How do I use that support? I don't think I've talked to support other than in the product help questions yet. I also need to find out what type of support I should buy after that runs out. I'm a designer who has started building websites with Muse. I am also trying to understand Business Catalyst hosting. "Thank you", in advance!

Not clear on what you mean by certify the domain? If you mean purchase and register a domain, then yes, you can do it with GoDaddy

Few questions about personal websites in posts.

I have noticed lately that people are starting to put their personal websites in their posts by either putting it down in the Green Lettering where your computer information would go, or putting it under their name when they sign the post.
According to the Terms and Conditions it states:
You may sign your Submissions with information about yourself. However, this should not include a link to a website. An example of an acceptable signature:

It also states:
Do not post a URL unless it directly answers a user's question. If any portion of your Submission, including any posted URL, results in any accrual of compensation or benefit to you, then you must note this in your post by stating, "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."
This would mean that you are not allowed to post your personal website anywhere but your profile right? I'm confused on what is acceptable and what isn't.

Question about Personal Hotspot

First of all, apologies if I have posted this to the wrong place - I am new to this!
I have limited knowledge about how the Personal Hotspot feature on the iPhone works. Yesterday I used it for the first time.
I connected to a friend's personal hotspot (with their permission) to use the internet. Is it simply the internet connection which is shared between their phone and mine, or would they have been able to have seen any of the content on my phone / would any of it have copied over to theirs? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I know next to nothing about how these things work!

No, they would not be able to see anything on your phone, and nothing would have copied, nor would it have been able to be copied. You are only sharing their connection to the internet. It's not a stupid question at all, by the way. People have lots of questions like this with all the security breaches going on with technology nowadays.

Questions about Personalized MAIL Forms

Hi all!
I got some questions regarding the Personalized Mail Forms in CRM:
1. When you set up the subject part of the Form is it possible to "personalize it too"?
What i mean is it possible to add attributes to the Subject for example the target's name etc. etc., just like you can do it in the mail's body?
2. How can you add system attributes to the mail form's body in a Text: i would like to add the &SFSY-PAGE& and &SFSY-FORMPAGES& attributes specially?
3. If i would like to insert a picture which is on my local drive, it's got inserted but doesn't wanna show, only a red cross. What is the possible problem?
4. I got the same problem when i wanna set up a background for the form, it doesn't wanna show. What are the things that i should check about it?
5. When i set up windows (sub or main either) on a page and i set their attributes like width or length those attributes only affect the Form Painter and don't affect the Form itself.
In Smart Forms when you set a window, it's attributes also affect the Form itself and not just the location of the window in the Form Painter.
What i mean is that i would like to set up different windows on a page on different locations ( like a header or a footer one ) but that only appears in the Form Painter, and it doesn't affect the page itself.
Any solution for this?

Question about Cisco Tec support Rep Live chat issue .

Hello guys, I recently just tried to do a session of live tech support on cisco web site about a issue trying to get my router to change the speed of the wireless connection from 54mbps to the potiental maxium of 300mbps. Well This is my second time using the live chat feature and the 2nd time, the guy was asking for my router name and passowrd. I didnt feel to comformtable doing that since my first time using the live chat , the tech guy didnt ask for my operating system, or my passowrds or anything of that nature? Is that normal for a live chat guy to do that? I figured hes was trying to do a remoate access to my computer and I was thinking, they probably dont do that for free especially over a live chat. Anyeone thoughts or am i being over crictical. thanks

i have not had a reason to ask then to do this, however back in the day i had a sony live rep (we were on the phone too) remote into my router to allow me to setup my sony base station (think slingbox but its made by sony) so i could get it to work when away form the home. this was a few years ago so it happens today. some businesses/stores even offer it as a solution. so dont freak out that they asked you that. dell does this for example...
give them a call and have them on the phone with you instead.just have them give you the directions on what to do.... if not, come here and ask the questions...

Advanced Question about Sub Domain and eCommerce

Question for you experts out there. I have a company, with 5 divisions, that is wanting a website. The parent company, as well as the 5 divisions would like to have their own separate product listings in an ecommerce site. Can I set up business catalyst to have parentcompany.com as well as division1.parentcompany.com, division2.parentcompany.com etc, and have them share one ecommerce by having their separate products listed as categories? Also, can I style each category differently to match the particular divisions? Thanks in advance, I know this one is a little confusing but I appreciate all your help out there.

You can have sub-domains within BC that can have their own start page. Then for the e-commerce you would just need to give each catalog a different template that you can use CSS to style differently. The Overall Layout will have to be the same, but the look can be changed up to accommodate each division.

Embarrasing question about local domain. [SOLVED]

OK,
Every time I set a box up I name it blackbox, tanbox, lap1 etc. But when I get to the local domain I use "kitchen" . So All the computers in the house have "kitchen" as the local domain. My question is should it be kitchen.net, .org, .com or does it matter? Do I need to specify .net, .com etc or can I just leave it as blackbox.kitchen. [edit] Or do you guys just leave localdomain as ....localdomain ?
Is that clear?

No , *never* use in your LAN the ID (or domain name) of a registered public domain or a fictitious name it is a matter of time before it creates you trouble.
This explanation of using NAT will give you an idea of what I mean:
The effect is to hide multiple hosts behind a single public IP address. Notice it is the action of sending a packet from the LAN to a host on the Internet that creates a return translation entry. Until a host on the LAN initiates contact, it is invisible to the public Internet. It has no public IP address and traffic addressed to the gateway machine is not forwarded to the LAN since there is no reverse translation entry.
Now ... if the LAN has someone else public ID, there would be a conflict would it not? and where do the packet goes ... only God knows.

New to apple - basic questions about personalizing the dock

Hi -
Just got my MBP this week, and haven't used an apple before.
I am curious how I can add and remove icons to/from the dock in a "permanent" fashion so that the format stays constant after I restart the computer. Basically, I'm never (or rarely) going to use some of the standard programs on the dock, and would much rather have my high-use programs (word, for instance) readily accessable on the dock.

To add or remove items from the dock is very simple. You can simply drag items that are currently onto your dock either to your desktop or to the trash to get rid of them. (This won't get rid of the program or application itself, so don't worry!) Then, to add items, you can click and drag them from your applications folder (or whatever other folder they are in) to the spot on your dock you want them. You can also rearrange items on your dock by clicking and dragging.

There is a function called sumifs() which can sum a common range based on multiple pairs of test ranges and test conditions.
Someting like this may get you started:
You will have to add a new column (which you can hide) to your data table (which I have named "Data") that shows the month for a date:
the formula for that is:
D2=MONTH(A2)
select D2 and fill down
For the table on the right (I called it "Summary")
B2=SUMIFS(Data :: $C, Data :: $B, "="&$A2, Data :: $D, "="&B$1)
select B2 and fill to the right as needed
then select B2 thru the end of the row and fill down as needed.
This solution does "merge" months from different years so If you want to discriminate by month AND year you can add a year column ot the Data table, then add an additional condition to the sumifs() function

Question about personal smartphone activation

if I own my phone will Verizon require a 2 year contract to activate? or can I get a shorter contract. I would like to use it seasonally (smartphone) for credit card processing

Sounds like a pre-paid phone would be better for that purpose. You buy the phone outright and then simply use as needed. Pre-paids don't carry contracts.
If you own your own phone, you don't need to sign a contract on post-paid service. So you are free to start and stop it any time you like, but there are usually extra fees in doing this, depending on what you do. You can:
Terminate service and reactivate when needed. No charge to terminate, $35 to re-activate.
Suspend service, no charge to suspend, $5 monthly charge during suspension, up to 3 months I think. After that you must either resume or terminate.

Personal Domain Set-Up Question

Hi fellow iwebbers,
I had a quick question about personal domain set-ups. I am using a domain.com's registrar for my domain. Their DNS management system requires two entries: one for the "www" and one for the canonical name. If web.mac.com is the "www," what should be the canonical name?
Also, when I visit my published site directly from iweb, it takes me to www.(mydomain).com/site. Why does it add the "site" part? Why not go directly to just the domain? Does this affect the DNS records?
If my questions are stupid, then shut up because it's weebo's 21st bday tomorrow.

2. This doesn't affect the DNS records, which only control the portion of the URL before the third / character. The rest of the URL is determined by the location of the files on the server hosting them.

Using my Personal Domain Name on a trial version of .Mac?

Okay, I have a trial version of .mac, and am very happy with it. I used Iweb to build a good website for my artwork, and I'm all set to publish. But I want to put my registered domain name to my new site, so when you type the simple domain name (ex: "www.site.com") my .mac site that I built on Iweb will show up.
I have a previously-built site hosted by a different company where my domain name used to point. After calling the company where I bought the domain name, they had me redirect the name so it points to .mac. It didn't work. When I type in my domain name (ex:"www.site.com"), the old site comes up.
I went onto the help section of Iweb, which says to log into .mac, and in the account info section, press a button that says something about personal domains. _THERE IS NO BUTTON THERE_!!! Is it becuase I only have the trial version of .mac? I intend to buy the full version, but I wanted to play with my free trial memebership first. If I have to, though, I'll just buy the full version so I can add my personal domain name to the .mac site.
Has anyone come across the answer for this? I'm inexperienced with hosting and domains and all that...the answers I've gotten from emails are like greek to me. Can anyone help?

Yes.
You should still be able to point your personal name to your .Mac site via ordinary forwarding/masking, where you normally just type http://web.mac.com/username into a form at the place which holds your name.
