Question about Photoshop Extended Installation

It seems that the Creative Cloud installer installs both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Photoshop. Can either one be installed singularly? Can one or the other be un-installed?

Hi RegalCreative,
I'm moving your question over to our installation forum.

  • Few questions about Photoshop CS4 Student Edition

I'm thinking of getting a DSLR camera in the summer, so (since I'm a geek) I want to make sure I've got all the software I'll need to edit the photos once I've taken them. The catch is that I graduate from university this year, so if I'm going to buy Photoshop (ie if I'm going to _afford_ Photoshop) I need to do so in the next couple of months to get the educational discount.
I've just got a few questions as to whether I actually need Photoshop CS4 for my situation:
*I already have Lightroom 2 (courtesy of Amazon Vine!) for processing RAW files, doing basic colour adjustment etc. Would I get £150 worth of extra usage from Photoshop CS4 compared to Lightroom?
*What DRM/copy protection does Photoshop CS4 use? Is it the same that's used in Lightroom 2 (hasn't given me any problems) or the Macrovision stuff that installs a background service (called something like 'Adobe LM monitor') on your computer?
*If I need to reactivate over the phone some time in the future (e.g. when I move to a new computer and I've already used the activations) do I still need to be a qualifying student?
Reckoned there wouldn't be a better place to ask these than PS forums :)

    >then you just don't know enough about photoshop.
Actually, if you had read the initial post you'd realise that I'm fully aware that Photoshop is hugely powerful. However it doesn't offer enough benefit for my usage (ie retouching of amateur photos) to make it worth the money + computer infection. My above post wasn't an attempt to say that Photoshop is bad, or that Gimp or any of these other freeware programs are even in the same league, I was just stating that my own need for Photoshop's power isn't great enough to make me want to install spyware.
    >hmmm how about A PAYING JOB! i think that's what the clincher is for most folks.
True, but (again, as I explained above) I'm not a professional photographer/graphic artist/etc. and therefore there is no 'need it for work' motivation.

  • Question about Windows repair installation

    Hello,
I have searched through the forum, but am still a little confused as to the use of expert recovery mode on my Toshiba recovery CD.
I cannot boot Windows at all. I haven't backed up any of my data (foolish!).
I currently have a single partition.
Is it possible to create a second partition using expert recovery mode, and re-load Windows to that. Would this only format one partition, allowing me to subsequently retrieve files from the first partition?
Or will this format the whole drive, load Windows, and then create the partitions?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Fitz.

    Hello Fitz
Expert mode allows you to do two things:
    1. Install OS on already persisting partition (if the HDD has already two of them)
    2. Create own partition (in this case the whole content will be erased)
Please try to boot up using SAFE mode (press F60). If this doesnt help you can do the follow to save your data:
    1. Connect the HDD to other PC as external device (using USB HDD box)
the HDD should be recognized automatically and you can copy all your data to other PC HDD
    2. You can try to use Partition Magic tool. Start it using external FDD and create two partitions. After doing this start your notebook with start disk and try to copy all the data to second partition.
Detailed explanation about expert mode installation and how to create own partition you can find under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=4462&messageID=14518

  • Question about Photoshop scratch disk and specific setup

    Hi Folks
Thanks for the help in advance.
I'm a novice and need help finding a solution to a new PC Build. (Windows 7 Pro 64bit with Photoshop CS6)
I only recently found out about having a scratch disk dedicated for photoshop (very novice i know ), and was wondering if a 120-128GB SSD would be enough? (Please bear in mind I can't fit large SSD raid configs to my budget, plus I live in New Zealand, so prices are higher for SSD at the moment).
I only edit single camera RAW files at a time around 25mb per file, with no large amount of layers and very rarely do large images i.e. Panorama etc.  I have searched the forums but could not find a concrete answer.
My setup was originally meant for a HTPC (I don't intend to overclock), but I will also be using it for light photography projects. Specs below:
    CPU: Intel i7 3770
Mobo: Asrock B75 Pro3-M (or Asus P8H77m Pro, depending on budget)
16gb Ram (maybe bump up to 32gb later)
120-128gb SSD for OS and apps
    120-128gb SSD scratch disk
    2 TB HDD for storage
If anyone knows, the motherboards I've listed have 3x Sata3 ports, Asrock has one Intel chip and two Asmedia controlled Sata3 ports, while Asus has 2x Intel controlled and 1x Marvell controlled Sata3 port.  If I went with the Asrock, would it be okay to connect the OS/Apps SSD to the intel controlled sata3 port and have the scratch disk and storage HDD to the Asmedia sata3 ports?
And one more novice question, when I begin to edit my images, is it best to transfer my photos from memory card to storage HDD then work from there? Or would it be quicker opening images direct from a USB 3.0 card reader / USB 3.0 external hard drive?
Thanks again everyone, really appreciate it

Just to clarify, if/when I get one 256gb SSD for my main C: drive, I can load the OS/Apps and store some data for the time being (until I get another SSD) and use the 2TB HDD for scratch disk only?
Yes, that's what I meant.  You could try putting Photoshop scratch on C: at least temporarily, and watch your free space carefully.  If you don't work on big documents or set your history states to be very large, it might be workable.  But be careful.  The safe "set it and forget it" configuration is to make your HDD the one and only Photoshop scratch drive.
When I do get around to getting the second 256gb, I will look at installing the two SSD's in RAID configuration.  If i were to do this, can I load the OS/Apps to the RAID SSD's as well as using them for scratch disks and have the 2TB HDD for storage? I hope that makes sense.
Sounds about right; with 512GB on tap you should be able to run just about everything from C:, as long as you don't keep your entire photo library on there.  Realistically, on a big system that's got a lot of apps installed and has been used for some time, Windows and your apps may end up consuming 100 to 150 GB, so that would still leave you a lot of breathing room.
Keep in mind that what you describe may require 3rd party re-partitioning software and/or backup and restoral, or a complete reinstallation of Windows and everything (usually the latter is what is recommended when moving up to a RAID system volume).
By the way, SSDs stay in best working order if you overprovision - i.e., maintain a fair amount of free space.  The internal controllers need the free space to keep the data organized well and maintain top performance.

  • A few questions about Boot Camp: installation, performance, which Win OS?

    Hello.
I am planning on getting a windows OS. My main motives for this are because I would like to get some PC only games (I've been eyeing that Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition that is soon to come out) and because there is a good chance that I will need some PC only programs for my college work. I just had a few questions before I did anything. Note: I am running 10.5.8 now but getting 10.6 soon.
    1. According to wikipedia: "Its functionality relies on BIOS emulation through EFI and a partition table information synchronization mechanism between GPT and MBR combined". The only word I understood of that sentence was "emulation." I know that emulation software significantly reduces performance. Is this true for boot camp? (say i were to get the exact same game for both mac and windows and set them to the exact same performance settings, when playing on windows, would there be more lag than on OS X?)
    2. Which Windows OS should I get? Since I am just going to be using Boot Camp to run games and a few other programs, would XP be the best to get to optimize the application's performance (as opposed to Win 7)?
    3. How complex is installation? I am a decent Mac techie, but this is my first time with boot camp, and I am a Windows noobie.
    4. There seems to be a lot of talk about partitions. What exactly is a partition? I have some theories, but want to know for sure.

  • The question about the HA installation on ECC6.0

    Hi Experts,
We are about to implement a project with HA environment on the ECC6.0 in the near future, which is just about the ABAP stack. After reading the Installating Guide, I stil have several questions related to the procedures of HA installation.
In the guide document, I got the following steps to process for realizing the HA of ECC6.0:
    1. Run SAPinst to install the central services instance (ASCS) using the virtual host name on the primary cluster node, host A.
    2. Prepare the standby node, host B, making sure that it meets the hardware and software requirements and it has all the necessary file systems, mount points, and (if required) Network File System (NFS), as described in Preparing for Switchover .
    3. Set up the user environment on the standby node, host B. For more information, see Creating Operating System Users and Groups Manually. Make sure thatyou use the same user and group IDs as on the primary node. Create the home directories of users and copy all files from the home directory of the primary node.
    4. Configure the switchover software and test that switchover functions correctly.
    5. Install the database instance on the primary node, host A.
    6. Install the central instance with SAPinst on the primary node, host A.
7.If required, install additional dialog instances with SAPinst to replicate the SAP system services that are not a SPOF. These nodes do not need to be part of the cluster.
My Question is that does standby node(host B in above context) need to install the ASCS, database instance and Central Instance?
If host B does not need to install the database instance, how about the whole system would be when the primary cluster node (Host A in above context) totally crash, such as power failure.

    Hi Rong,
I would try to explain it in simple words...
My Question is that does standby node(host B in above context) need to install the ASCS,
    database instance and Central Instance?
If host B does not need to install the database instance, how about the whole system would be when
the primary cluster node (Host A in above context) totally crash, such as power failure.
    1. You don't need to install ASCS on Node B. You are installing it using a VIRTUAL HOSTNAME which represent cluster not individual node. VIRTUAL HOSTNAME is assigned to cluster package, so whichever Node is the owner of the package, will have the VIRTUAL HOSTNAME. (it will switch with cluster switchover)
    2. It is actually a cluster package configuration magic. When Node A is active, cluster package owner is Node A. So all mount points (which is on SAN disk) is mounted on Node A. When you switchover the cluster, those packages will be mounted on Node B.
Some time single cluster package is used (which includes mount points for SAP instance + Database directories). You can also use 2 cluster package seperating SAP and Database directory structure.
Only OS related directories should be on servers local disk. All other application related mount points should be on SAN disk which is configured in "Cluster Package". (For example /sapmnt, /usr/sap, /oracle etc.)
You only need identical users and their enviornment settings on both Nodes.
In simple words, When primary node fails or crashed only users and thier enviornment setting will be lost. On second node, because of identical users and their profiles, same settings will be available to bring up the SAP system. Your all SAP and Database data is intact as it is on SAN Disk.
I hope, your confusion is cleared now...
    Regards.

    Hello,
For MSI APIs, you could refer to
    Installer Function Reference
It has helped us separate them to multiple parts. Like for getting product code, we could refer to
Product Query Functions part, like the
    MsiGetProductProperty .
For getting file information, then refer to File Query Functions
    part.

  • Question about bootable USB installer for Yosemite

After having wi-fi issues last month, I reinstalled Yosemite (clean install).  I only mention that so that it is understood that I have a pretty good understanding of how this process works.
But I am old school and I like physical media for various reasons......not least of which would be in the event I ever have future problems getting online to obtain the download from the app store.  So this evening, I decided to create a USB bootable installer for Yosemite.  I used the following web site, which is quite thorough in explaining the process:
    http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/16/make-os-x-yosemite-boot-install-drive/
I followed the instructions and successfully created my bootable media using a USB drive.  But because I wanted to put this newly created bootable media to the test (without actually reinstalling anything), I just restarted the computer (command R) to ensure I could boot to the USB installer.  I then clicked on disk utilities and noticed the following folders (and subfolders):
    Macintosh HD
    ---Macintosh HD
    31.95 GB PNY USB
    --Install OS X Yosemite
    disk 3
    --OS X Install ESD
    disk 4
    --OS X Base System
Now for my question, does anyone know why I have these multiple folders on the USB drive?  I can understand the first set (Macintosh HD and its subfolder) being my current OS X setup.  And the second setup of folders (31.95 GB PNY USB --Install OS X Yosemite) being the actual USB installer.  But what's up with those last two sets of folders called disk 3--OS X install ESD and disk 4--OX X Base System?  Does anyone know?  Perhaps one of those folder sets under disk 3 or disk 4 would be a hidden partition?  But why both disk 3 and disk 4 folders?
I just want to make sure everything is correct here; and that I am good to go with the USB bootable media!  I carefully followed the instructions using the above link to create this USB drive.

    FYI
my process just completed:  here is what I see when it is done... (the first you saw in my earlier post.  It took about 15-20 minutes.
To continue we need to erase the disk at /Volumes/Recovery.
If you wish to continue type (Y) then press return: y
    Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 30%...100%...
    Copying installer files to disk...

    Done.

  • I have a question about photoshop elements 11

can i create templates on elements 11 of customize templates of skins on games with elements 11

I believe that Amazon (the actual Amazon, and not semi-affiliated merchents) WAS a certified Adobe reseller. However, with the CC (Creative Cloud), I am not sure about that any longer - others can verify their certification.
As CS 5 is discontinued software, I would NOT expect Adobe to be selling that version - anywhere.
Research ANY reseller, and very, very carefully.
Also, do gain the rights to manipulate and post ALL © material - that is not only smart, but also honest and ethical.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - you might also want to explore two other, current Adobe programs: Photoshop Elements 11, and Premiere Elements 11. They are often sold in bundles, for about the MSRP on one. Together, they will handle most Still Image editing needs, and also Video creation and editing. They are both very inexpensive, but powerful programs.

  • Question about Photoshop 7 and Windows 7

The harddrive on my old computer crashed.  I had Photoshop 7 on this computer.  I recently purchased a new laptop(windows 7 64 bit).  Is it possible to install Photoshop 7 on my laptop?  Also, can more than one version of Photoshop (i.e. Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CS5) reside on the same harddrive?
    Thanks
    Cari

Also, can more than one version of Photoshop (i.e. Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CS5) reside on the same harddrive?
Yes, they can. All installs are independent. As to whether PS7 will install and run on W7 I cannot tell from personal experience, but from reading other people's threads it seems to work for some, but not for others. In any case, nothing is lost by trying...

Besides transcripts you may want to look at the other options which can be submitted.  They are as follows:
What forms of student/faculty identification are accepted?
Option 1: A photocopy of your school ID. Before submitting the ID, cross out any sensitive information, such as a social security number or driver's license number. The school ID must contain the following items:
    School name
    Faculty/student name
    Current* enrollment/employment date
Option 2: One of the following documents:
School transcript indicating name of school, student, and current* date
School tuition bill indicating name of school, student, and current* date
Report card indicating name of school, student, and current* date
Faculty or staff: A current paycheck stub

  • Question About SAP Trail Installation 7.02

I have a question. if some could assist please. I wanted to learn the process of SAP installation(basis) and assigning users, roles...etc. I  downloaded the Trial "SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit Developer Edition", and successfully installed it on Windows XP platform. I was able to successfully log in trial SAP using the SAP GUI.
The issue is that when I compare the trail SAP 7.02 with our previous installed SAP(purchased license). I see that many modules are missing in the trial SAP version. e.g using transaction code "/nspro" & SAP Reference IMG. I don't see Financial accounting, controlling, investment management, enterprise controlling...etc etc and many many more.
Is there something that needs to be done in the SAP trial 7.02 installation that will activate the missing modules or how can I see the other modules or the trial version does not have these. Do I need to download any other file....Can someone please guide or provide any tips.

    Hi,
The Developer Edition allows individuals free of charge to test, evaluate, prototype and share add-on software code on code exchange This package comes with SAP's robust ABAP server. It also includes Web Dynpro for ABAP.
Therefore, you will not find the other functionalities in this edition. It is only for developers to practice ABAP.

  • Question about Photoshop - Muse workflow

I'm new to Muse. Long time PS and InDesign user. Watched a bunch of Muse videos and it seems this may do what I need.
I'm building a simple 4-5 page website for a Gallery.
I've already designed the pages in Photoshop CC.
Essentually, full screen photos, A black rectangle (In PS it is raster not a path) Witrh some type and drop shadow effects. A couple other elements from Illustrator (placed as smart objects) have blend modes and opacity changes.
So my question. Should I just start from scraatch in muse and build these elements? Or, can I say place a PSD with the background image, black "path" text, illustrator graphic with blend modes.
When is it better to bring in elements (text with effects, illustrator graphics, etc) via Photoshop, or piece by piece in Muse?
    Thanks
    Alex

Yes, as long as you have sites out there that use paid-for type-kit fonts, you'll need to maintain your subscription with typekit, in the same way we must continue our subscriptions to CC to use Adobe apps. As I understand it, however, for sites we create using typekit fonts included with CC, even after we've stopped paying for CC, those "free" typekit fonts will still work on sites we've created.
I'd say to go typekit.com, and do some reading, and some searching to make sure they have the fonts you want to use. So far, I'm not a Typekit subscriber, except the small part of their font library that comes included with Adobe CC.
In the meantime, I'm using more and more of Google's free web fonts. Typekit and Google each has its own specific workflow, for integrating fonts in Muse. I recommend that you go to Google.com/fonts, and get acquainted with their type system. It comes down to copying certain snippets of code to specific places in Muse, then editing html within Muse for type color, etc. -- I probably spent a week or so doing trial and error (not necessarily in that order) before I got it to work. Now I just keep a few "reference" Muse documents around that I can refer to when needed.
As I unserstand it, Typekit's workflow is a bit different than Google's, but there are plenty of threads in this forum and info on how to do it that you can Google.
Webfonts is where you slowly move into the code arena with Muse. And this is even more true styling business catalyst forms. My way of doing it is to discover how it works once, then I forget it completely, because I don't want to be more of a geek than I already am.  :+)  So I keep sample Muse documents around for reminding me how it works when I need it again.
Good luck, and happy learning!  :+)
