Question about playing mp3 in iPhone web browser.

If a web page has a link to a mp3 file, will I be able to click on that link and play the mp3 file right inside the browser? Can I download that mp3 file and where will it be stored after download?

Good news. You no longer need to sync video to your iPhone if you have a Mac running 10.5.
StreamToMe on the app store allows you to stream most of the common video formats to your iPhone via wifi (converting them automatically for you).
You can even use your iPhone as a media center by connecting a TV-out cable to stream movies from your Mac to your TV.

  • Okay i just recently asked a question.about my factory unlocked iphone 3gs asking how to activate it but..

i probably shouldnt say this but, okay i just recently asked a question.about my factory unlocked iphone 3gs asking how to activate it. so i got too excited of aving it and couldnt wait for my tmobile sim card to come  one more day. so i "hactivated" it (i know this voids all warrenty) and i jailbroke it just so i could use it as an ipod.it worked and i was syched.
BUTTT.... it asked me if i wanted to update the software to 5.1 and i was like " oh yes id love to" and it started downloading it and it was inrecovery mode the whole time .
when the download finished. i hit restore so i can put the software on the phone but the itunes had an error and the phone went glitchy and it does a rebooting loop. it shows the apple symbol with the slash through it for about 5 seconds and shuts off for a little bit (about another 5 seconds) and it starts up  then loops the process. ive managed to turn the phone off but if i start  it up it loops...what should i do? any help :/
Also it does not show up in my itunes because it is turning off to fast to detect.

Discussion of hacked phones is prohibited on these forums.  Sorry, you'll need to go elsewhere to get support for a j'broke iPhone.

  • Question about tranferring data from iPhone 3gs to iPhone 4

I just had a couple quick questions about transferring data from my old phone from my new iPhone 4. The reason i am wondering is because i am worried about whether i will encounter any problems when doing so.
First off i have already sold my phone today, i reset all data and settings from the phone and gave it to my buddy so its gone. I did a full sync and backup yesterday so all the necessary files should be on my computer(windows 7). Now, im basically wondering if i will run into any problems if i restore my iphone 4 from a backup. My 3gs was running 3.1.2 on att. Now i know IDEALLY i would have updated it to iOS 4 before backing it up and used the newest version of itunes, but i did not. Does anyone think this will be a problem for me?
Now with that out of the way, my biggest fear is losing my old data(text messages and notes mainly because i am a pack rat for those type of things) so id like to be SURE that none of my old backups will be deleted in any scenario. The reason i dont just restore it right now is because i want my new phone to be as clutter free as possible. I am going to be putting on here only the apps that i used often and would basically like to transfer over the BARE minimum; texts, notes, and highly used apps... So i guess my main question is can you transfer over only certain things like texts and notes after setting up the phone as a new phone. And if i were to set up the phone as a new phone what would happen to my old backups? Would i be able to selectively restore?
Im afraid that it might not be a possibility to transfer only certain things even though it should be.. i should be able to select a text messages folder and put it on my new phone and be done with it... But anyway i dont want to rant. Can anyone explain to me how this all will work?
ULTIMATE GOAL: Transfer only texts, notes, certain apps(and their data) and NOTHING ELSE.
MOST IMPORTANT THING: Not losing texts and notes. I can deal with putting all the old **** on my new phone and cluttering/slowing it down if i NEED to.
Thank you in advance, sorry for the long post.

If the most important thing for you is keeping old text messages, notes, and voicemail, then you'll need to sync the phone from your existing backup. I know of no other way to access those items.
Once you have synced to the new phone, check that you have those items that were important. Then you can reconnect your phone to iTunes, and change the sync settings to remove the apps or other items you no longer want to keep on the phone.
iPhone backups are stored by iTunes; you can see them by opening your iTunes preferences, clicking on "Devices" and then looking in the window. You can delete old backups from here. I don't know how you can open/read the backups though.
I don't expect you'd have any problems syncing from your old phone's backup, but it's definitely an either/or situation. Since you got rid of the old phone already, it's too late to email yourself your notes, or copy the text messages. Your previous backup is your only solution.

  • Question about upgrade and original iPhone

There might be other thread already, but have a question about upgrade to 3G.
I have the original iPhone and have upgraded to iPhone 3G.
The question is whether I can use the original iPhone indefinitely.
People at Apple store was telling me I can use the original iPhone (without the phone functionality) as long as I don't restore the firmware.
Is this true? What happens if Apple releases firmware in the future? Would this mean that I can only use this as long as machine doesn't require restore? I wanted to give it to one of my family members so she can use it as iPod so any info would be helpful ....

My understanding is the same as the Apple Store Employee.
If you try to update the software on an iphone with no service, I believe that it will be rendered useless.
It may be possible to swap the SIM card for software upgrades, etc., not sure.

  • IPhone Web Browsing

Does anyone know if there are filtering apps for the iPhone? I want to limit where my son can browse the web on his iPhone. I know he cant be protected from all negative sites out there, but at least we would like to limit his exposure.

    Alafrate,
There are no specific filtering apps for the iPhone. I have 3 children, and choose to be with them (same room, same vehicle, etc) when they are using the iPhone. That is my personal choice. Likewise, the suggestions I am presenting are personal options.
How complex do you want to get?
Is he going to be using it at home on WiFi, or out and about with EDGE?
With WiFi at home you can apply filters similar to what schools, libraries or businesses do to their wireless networks. Understanding that no filtering solution is perfect.
On EDGE, using a VPN to home would be one possibility.
However, there is no way to prevent him from turning off the VPN feature.
If the primary use will be browsing the iPod Touch might be preferable since it will only work on WiFi.
As I stated previously I choose to supervise, and discuss what websites my children visit, but that is a matter of personal choice and opinion.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Quick Question about Cisco 3560 and the Web Device Manager

Alright, I have a quick question that I am curious about but I haven't found any information
    about it.
When I log into my Cisco 3560 using the web portal to get to the Device Manager. Below the
diagram of the switch, then under the Dashboard there is section called Switch
    Health, Port Utilization.
Under the Switch Health there is Bandwidth Used, Packet Error. Those two options just sit
at zero and do not move. The Port tilization graph is also sitting at zero.
Is there a way to make them functional?

Anyone notice performance increase or decrease of their HD when using the nVidia IDE SW drivers?  particularly with a 74GB Raptor?  I've also heard of burner issues when installing the IDE SW but have not used my burner yet.

Maybe your Quad Core G5 with 4GB of RAM can support that many browser sessions and other tasks simultaneously, but to expect a little handheld device to do it? That's a lot to expect from some older desktops.
The fact that it quits and goes to the home screen doesn't sound like a "crash" either. It sounds more like a "safe mode" to conserve resources.
    Give it a break.

  • Question about getting mp3s

    Hello everyone
Im sure this question has probably come up a lot around here, but are there any other REALLY GOOD services besides itunes to download mp3s? As you know itunes doesnt exactly have every album that you look for. Thanks
    Sal

    Hello djmills,
With deals as good as the one you wrote about, a lot of orders usually will follow and can sometimes create constraints on the inventory. However, I am sorry you were unable to receive this item in time to gift it to the intended recipient; resulting in you canceling that item off your order and returning the other to the store.
If you return an item bought as part of a bundle or with a promotional discount and you do not return everything, we should reimburse you for what you do return, minus the value of the discount or freebie. This means, your Arrow Season 2 would likely have returned to the price before the bundle discount was applied as it was no longer associated with Season 1 after its cancellation.
Using your email address you supplied here on the forums, it appears you were able to receive assistance with this after emailing into the address you listed. Should you still need assistance with this, please let me know.
    Thank you for your business,

  • Question about filter-mappings in the web.xml

I'm a bit new this so apologies if this is a stupid question but want to write a filter mapping that captures /image/<identifier here> and /image/<identifier here>/size/<size here>
I would have assumed <url-pattern>/image/*</url-pattern> would do this but it doesn't. When I try a URL with /size/ in it, I get a File not found error.
So I tried adding a second mapping that uses <url-pattern>/image/*/size/*</url-pattern> and that doesn't work either.
What would be the best way to write a filter mapping that captures both /image/<identifier here> and /image/<identifier here>/size/<size here> ?

    Thanks for the reply.
I did end up doing something like that in the end. I think I just couldn't get my mind into gear as usual on Monday.
What's happening is taking a nice neat human readable URL and converting it to the horrible URL used by the system. The reason it's a filter is because someone had written a tiny filter would might only execute 20 lines of code and I think someone felt it was easier to just lump about 240 more lines to execute on each request, which, even if it isn't a huge strain on the system it's nasty and most of the code is unnecessary the vast majority of the time. I'm splitting it up the whole lot based on the various tasks.
This particular functionality could be a servlet. I probably would have done it that if given the task from scratch but I think sometimes I put too much faith in the fact those with more experience should know better. I think I'll try it as a servlet and if someone has concerns about it then I'll ask them to explain to me why it can't be one.

  • (newbie) Question about replacing .class files and web.xml file

I'm new to servlets and I have two quick questions...
Do I absolutely need a web.xml file to define all my servlets, or can I simply place .class files into the WEB-INF directory and expect them to run?
If my application server (for example Tomcat) is running and I replace a servlet .class file, do I need to restart the server for the new .class file to take effect?
...or are both of these questions specific to the application server I'm using?

    Hi,
    From an article I read:
With Tomcat 3.x, by default servlet container was set up to allow invoking a servet through a common mapping under the /servlet/ directory.
A servlet could be accessed by simply using an url like this one:
    http://[domain]:[port]/[context]/servlet/[servlet full qualified name].
The mapping was set inside the web application descriptor (web.xml), located under $TOMCAT_HOME/conf.
With Tomcat 4.x the Jakarta developers have decided to stop allowing this by default. The <servlet-mapping> tag that sets this mapping up, has been commented inside the default web application descriptor (web.xml), located under $CATALINA_HOME/conf:
<!-- The mapping for the invoker servlet -->
    <!--
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    -->
A developer can simply map all the servlet inside the web application descriptor of its own web application (that is highly suggested), or simply uncomment that mapping (that is highly discouraged).
It is important to notice that the /servlet/ isn't part of Servlet 2.3 specifications so there are no guarantee that the container will support that. So, if the developer decides to uncomment that mapping, the application will loose portabiliy.
And declangallagher, I will use caution in future :-)

  • Question about Playing Videos from Digital Camera on iPod

I just got an iPod video and it won't let me put my video recordings from my digital camera on it. I got this camera about six months ago and it will play through Windows Media Player but will not on iTunes. What's weird is that my iTunes plays videos from my really old digital camera.
Does anyone know how I can play my videos?

I don't create videos myself but this might help you.

  • Question about using PowerShell to detect web page availability and then perform alternate action.

I have a specific Windows 7 machine that needs to always display a specific Intranet page.  (it shows an internal status page in kiosk mode).
If this machine every loses connectivity to the web server, unfortunately, the browser shows the typical "web page could not be retrieved" error message and it never recovers.  I need to manually reload the page when the connection is restored.
I'm thinking if it would be possible to write a PowerShell script that checks the connectivity/availability of the Intranet page and if it detects an error, it would launch a browser that points to a local file html file which would say something more professional
and graceful like "site temporarily down for maintenance."  Also, if the PowerShell script could run on a regular interval, when the Intranet page becomes available again, it would close the browser that is showing the maintenance page and start
showing the page with the original Intranet site.
For the Intranet site checking, I was looking at the invoke-webrequest: as the mechanism.
Any guidance would be appreciated as I am new to PowerShell.

With these lines you get the static content of the web page:
    $page = new-object net.webclient
    $page.UseDefaultCredentials = $True
    $Page.DownloadString(“http://www.intranet.local.com/”)
You could first check whether the web server is pingable, then use the lines above to see whether there is a HTML response.
If the web server doesnt respond you could kill the browser process and then open a HTML page stored locally on the Win 7 client:
    Invoke-Item .\ErrorPage.html
If the web server responds, kill the browser and restart it showing the Intranet page.
All this run from a scheduled task.

  • Question about Address app and iPhone

I have the fully updated Tiger OS, and I want to start putting all of my contacts in the Address application (iLife '06). A few questions:
    1) Even thought it's an older OS and older iLife (my ibook refuses to die), will the Address app sync just fine with the iPhone? (I'm getting the one reportedly coming out this summer.)
    2) Can I send out blanket e-mails (with images) from the iPhone?
    3) Just a general Address application question: Can I assume that even if a new iLife comes out soon, I'll still be able to transfer all my contacts just fine from iLife '06?
    Thanks for any feedback.

The OS X Address Book app is not part of the iLife package. iLife 09 was just released, so I wouldn't expect iLife 10 until next year, which has nothing to do with the Address Book application.
No one knows what the minimum OS X system requirements will be for the next generation iPhone and we won't know until Apple makes an announcement. I think it is doubtful that Tiger will not be supported but we will know for certain when Apple makes an announcement and not until that time.
What do you mean by blanket email?

  • Another question about adding music to iPhone

Apologies for yet another question regarding adding music to an iPhone but I am completely stuck.
I bought a new laptop in January (it runs windows 8). I've authorised it and synced my phone to it before. I've used it to add music before.
Lately I've just been buying music directly from itunes on my phone but I wanted to add some music from my older collection that is on an external harddrive.
I've gone through the process of syncing the phone again, which has wiped whatever was on there. I made sure I'd ticked on the "manually manage music" box.
It's put all my purchased music back but it still will not let me drag and drop music from my external harddrive. When I hover over with the file it has "link" but it won't actually send the music to the phone.
Is there a way for me to do this without putting music on to my itunes library? I don't like itunes and I definitely don't want to add the music to my laptop as it defeats the purpose of having an external harddrive! Sorry for such a long-winded explanation.

Just to add... I've now tried adding music to the library (getting desperate here) and it's not letting me do that either. Just says 'link'.
This is the most frustrating thing ever. Why are the simplest of tasks made so difficult? It seems like it only works if you buy the music from the iTunes store.

  • How to play MP3s on IPhone without using QuickTime

I listen to a lot of audio lectures that come in an email with a direct link. My phone will automatically open these and play them using QuickTime, but QT doesn't have an option to bookmark. I don't typically finish the full lecture in one sitting so I need to be able to bookmark my place. iTunes will not work for me for this as I am not always able to take the several extra steps necessary to download to my computer and then wait for them to show up on my phone through icloud which sometimes takes days. Always hours. Is there another app that will do this?  Audible is a good example of how I would like it to work.

Yes I have, thank you.  And google.
