Question about purchasing LION for a MacBook Air

I went to the app store to buy the newest OS X system, Lion, and it said that it would take up 3.49 GB. If I have a MacBook Air, won't that be MOST of my available hardrive? I have the 1.86 Ghz with upgraded 4GB. What should I do (I am not a technical person...do not know much about computer memory/space/RAM, etc.)

Same model as mine It works great. Go for it. Common sense back up anything you don't want to lose - just in case. I had no issues at all.

  • Where/how do I get my install disk/image of Lion for my Macbook Air?

Just in case, to keep on-hand in case I would like to reinstall Lion, I would like an image file to put on a USB drive.
I obviously didn't get a DVD with the Macbook Air, but also didn't get any instructions (nor can find them online) of where to download my disk image.

That's because an image for the new MBAs isn't available to the public.  A special Lion build containing MBA hardware specific drivers is required.
It is intended that the recovery partition/internet download method be used to restore/rebuild. This likely won't be sufficient in all cases--though it should suffice for most recovery situations.
As to an image from Apple--that would be speculation.

  • Question about purchasing Lion

My friend just bought a Core 2 iMac with an older OS, not sure which version. I don't have a lot of experience with this but, as I understand it, you must purchase Lion through the Mac App Store, which is only available on the OS immediately previous to Lion. Is it okay to use a different Mac to create an app store account, purchase Lion, create install media, and install to his own iMac?

It is technically possible. That said, I believe the SLA excerpt below explains the legality.

Association of Associated Devices is subject to the following terms:

If you re download Mountain Lion using your Apple ID on her Mac, your sister will need to use your Apple ID and password to install and update apps.

  • If I own a desktop iMac and a laptop MacBook Air, do I need to purchase Lion for each of them?

If I own a desktop iMac and a MacBook Air, do I need to purchase Lion for each of them?

No. You can install Lion on all machines under your control. BTW, to avoid wasting bandwidth, time, and electricity, when you first DL Lion, don't install it, quit the installer, and copy the Install Mac OS X Lion.app which is DL'd to /Applications to another location. The stupid, inane installer deletes itself as part of its installation process. Then, copy the saved version to the other machines. Do note that if you move the installer app from /Applications, you can install it, and it won't be deleted.

All you should have to do is to go to the Adobe web site http://www.adobe.com.
Sign in with your Adobe ID and Password.
Then go the web page's Search field and type in "My Orders".
Follow the "My Orders" link to your orders, find the order corresponding to the version in question.
There should be an opportunity there to download a new set of installation files.
Do you have your purchased serial number? If not, I am not sure if it will be included in the "My Orders"
area. But, it should be in the "My Products" which you can access from the Search field. Click on the
name of your product in "My Products", and the serial number should be revealed.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion 10.7.2) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard 10.6.8) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Yes. For those two applications specifically there is sharing. This presumes both computers are on and connected to the same network.
In iPhoto, enable sharing by (on the iMac) going to the iPhoto menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my photos. You can either share the entire library or only selected albums. Now on your MacBook Air, in iPhoto, go to the same preference pane and select Look for shared photos.
iTunes has something similar. In the iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my library on my local network. On the other computer, look in the left column for SHARED and select the iMac. You can now play that music on the MacBook Air.
There are other ways to share files but for those two applications this is the simplest way.
    Best of luck.

  • Where can I purchase a rubber/silicone case for my MacBook air?

I am searching for a silicone (soft) case for my MacBook Air.  Does anyone know where I may purchase one?  I'm not referring to the rubberized hard shell cases found via Amazon and/or eBay.  I want one that is similar to the silicone cases you put on an iPod or iPad.

Haven't seen one of those, but I did find a thin, padded neoprene case by NuCase at the Apple store...check the on-line store and see what they have.

You can only transfer purchases from iTunes on the iPad into iTunes on your computer. If you bought the music from another source, you need to use the source app to transfer the music, or you need a third party app to transfer the music.

This is not difficult and you will not have to download from the app store.
your computer has what is called  a recovery partition that came with it.
simply hold cmd+R while you boot up. let go a second after you hear the chime.
you will boot into the recovery partition.
Use disk utlity to format your usb drive and then exit Disk utlity and go to Reinstall Mountain Lion.
it will ask  you which disk you want to install ML onto. Choose your new USB drive.
    easy peasy

  • If i already purchased os x lion for one macbook how do I download to other computers

I've already purchased the os x lion for my macbook pro and I wanted to download it to my macbook as well. How do I do this?

Log in to the App Store using the same ID used in your Lion purchase on your MacBook.
Go to the "Purchases" tab and click on the Lion download.

  • Is it a better decision to purchase a Thunderbolt display for my macbook air or a new imac?

Is it a better decision to purchase a Thunderbolt display for my macbook air or a new imac? Both are around the same cost; Air-to-Thunderbolt display adds convenience of files being in one place rather than two computers.  Other cosiderations?

From first glance, it appears that the cable may be the determinant factor, but the article suggests in the resolution that the device providing the video must be Thunderbolt equipped also.
