Question about replacing corrupted file in windows 7

hi,
I read in windows 7 bible that if a system file is corrupted , I can replace it with system recovery tool (at command prompt) if I have onother computer with windows 7 installed.
my question is here , if I replace any file with copy the file from computer to dvd and replac it on my computer ,  does the windows version must be the same for 64 bit or it doesn't a matter.
thanks
johan

Hi,
Yes, the version must be the same. You may be able to get a known good copy of the system file from another computer that is
running the same version of Windows with your computer. For different versions there may be different configuration settings in the files that you operating on which if replaced with the wrong version might cause new issues.
More information regarding How to manually replace a corrupted system file with a known good copy of the file, please check it in the link:Use
the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
Hope this may help
Best regards
Michael

  • (newbie) Question about replacing .class files and web.xml file

    I'm new to servlets and I have two quick questions...
    Do I absolutely need a web.xml file to define all my servlets, or can I simply place .class files into the WEB-INF directory and expect them to run?
    If my application server (for example Tomcat) is running and I replace a servlet .class file, do I need to restart the server for the new .class file to take effect?
    ...or are both of these questions specific to the application server I'm using?

    Hi,
    From an article I read:
    With Tomcat 3.x, by default servlet container was set up to allow invoking a servet through a common mapping under the /servlet/ directory.
    A servlet could be accessed by simply using an url like this one:
    http://[domain]:[port]/[context]/servlet/[servlet full qualified name].
    The mapping was set inside the web application descriptor (web.xml), located under $TOMCAT_HOME/conf.
    With Tomcat 4.x the Jakarta developers have decided to stop allowing this by default. The <servlet-mapping> tag that sets this mapping up, has been commented inside the default web application descriptor (web.xml), located under $CATALINA_HOME/conf:
    <!-- The mapping for the invoker servlet -->
    <!--
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    -->
    A developer can simply map all the servlet inside the web application descriptor of its own web application (that is highly suggested), or simply uncomment that mapping (that is highly discouraged).
    It is important to notice that the /servlet/ isn't part of Servlet 2.3 specifications so there are no guarantee that the container will support that. So, if the developer decides to uncomment that mapping, the application will loose portabiliy.
    And declangallagher, I will use caution in future :-)

  • Question about replacing hard drive

    Hey everyone. I had a question about replacing a hard drive for a 2012 midyear pro. I have replaced hard drives before on windows machines, but this is the first mac I have owned. It didn't come with a hard drive when I bought it, but I do have mavericks installed on a usb. As far as a new hard drive, will any 2.5 laptop hard drive work? I read it needs to be 9.5mm thick. Is that correct? As far as I am concerned, hardware is hardware and should be the same as replacing a hard drive on a dell laptop but wanted to see if apple has any weird restrictions.
    Also, is there anything I need to consider or be aware of when putting in a new hard drive? Or can I just hook up the hard drive and plug in the USB and install the software onto the hard drive. Thanks
    Excuse and ny ignorance as I am new to macs.

    Yes.  Any SATA drive will do with those specifications.
    Also, is there anything I need to consider or be aware of when putting in a new hard drive? Or can I just hook up the hard drive and plug in the USB and install the software onto the hard drive.
    Assuming that the installer is functioning correctly, install the HDD in the MBP and engage the installer.  You should come across a 4 option menu.  Select Disk Utility from it.  Open Disk Utility>Erase and format the HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journlaled).  One you finish that, you may install the OSX.
    Ciao.

  • Basic question about importing wma files

    Hi, I have a basic question about importing wma files. I ripped some cd's on a Mindows computer using Media Player, but now want to copy them to my Mac and use them in iTunes on my Mac. when I use Import in iTunes, nothing happens and I cant even seem to copy them one by one using the Music folder.
    Can someone help me?
    thanks
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    iTunes for Mac doesn't support .wma files.
    If you can use a PC to convert them, you can use one of many freeware applications. Google for 'wma to mp3'.
    For the Mac there's the shareware program EasyWMA that can convert them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Replace corrupted files

    I have some images that are corrupt, they are also corrupted on the vault as well.
    I was able to retrieve good RAWS via my Time Machine backup in an old project.
    What is the best way of replacing the corrupt files with the good backup copies while PRESERVING my adjustments and ratings?
    If I go into the individual packages and try and replace the RAW file one at a time, the OS tells me the file is busy and can't be replaced.
    There are probably a few hundred if not a thousand.

    Michael
    you mention packages so I am guessing that you have opened the library, show package contents, etc.
    I just went through the process to test it
    I quit aperture
    showed package contents of the library
    showed package contents of the project
    then one image at a time in each "file/folder" deleted and replace the file
    Aperture when launched just ran without any questions and showed the files correctly.
    for me both the following methods worked;
    delete and then drag in the replacement method and
    the drag and click on the dialogue box asking do I want to replace the file
    As far as I can gather you will need to do one file at a time.

  • Few Questions About Backing Up Files

    Okay, I'm pretty new to this, and have checked the support pages, but I do have some questions about backing up my files.
    I'm running out of room on my computer's hard drive, and am wondering if burning the library to CDs will allow me to quickly restore my library on my computer when I sync my iPod.
    I know that when an iPod syncs with a comp, it will lose any songs that aren't on the library list. (If I deleted some songs to free up room, I'd lose those songs on my iPod when I synced it up.) Is there a way to prevent that from happening? Some way to save a headache continuously restoring my iPod's library every time I want to add a new song or recharge it?
    I'm on Windows XP, if that matters.

    Best and easiest solution is to buy an external hard drive. Then simply drag and drop your iTunes folder from your internal onto the external and copy the entire library.

  • Few questions about partitioning and formatting in Windows 8

    Hello,
    I'm very shortly after a Windows 8 reinstall and I want to make use of this moment to finally understand partitioning and formatting in Windows 8.
    Before using Windows 8, I was an XP user for 5 years and I actually never bothered myself with formatting my main system partition, that's probably why my computer ended up working like a slime for the last years. Anyway, by now I have been using Windows 8 for a year.
    Three weeks ago I faced a system-related problem with my laptop (IdeaPad Y580) which prevented it from peacefully shutting down. A good friend of mine (XP user for his entire life, and now Windows 7 newbie user) told me, that I should keep all my non-system stuff on separate partition and that I should do the main system partition format from time to time to keep my PC out of trouble. It is sure that he took his knowledge from using XP, and here's my first question - does this method apply to Windows 8?
    I mean as far as I know, back then, in XP, partitioning was possible only during Windows installation, and now, in Windows 8 we have a Disk Management for this, which do not require running Windows installation to create new partitions.
    I'm mentioning this due to the fact that originally (I mean by factory settings) my drive has only one visible partition - C: (1TB), so I would need to use the Disk Management to take some space from C: partition and allocate it to the new D: partition.
    In case I do this whole partitioning operation and create a D: partition, is it sure that formatting my system-only C: partition won't have effects on my D: partition, and all the programms and data I have here will stay on their places and work after format? (I'm worried about this because I've seen in some partitioning guide a warning not to format the main partition after the partitioning operation, because it would erase totally all data - I'm not sure if I misunderstood something or is it a mistake? EDIT: here's the link for this guide, just jump to the "Final Thoughts" section to see what I'm taking about: http://www.technorms.com/8438/windows-8-create-hard-drive-partition ).
    If this whole method of keeping your system running fine doesn't apply to Windows 8, I guess I'm okay with having only one C: partition.
    By the way, it doesn't matter for me if I create new partition in terms of conflicts with preinstalled Lenovo OneKey Recovery, since I had to reinstall my Windows 8 recently from non-Lenovo CD, and either way my laptop is now totally clean, without Lenovo stuff (I found Lenovo Recovery CD for Y580 on the internet, but it had non-single-language Windows 8 in it, and I needed a single-laguage one in order to have my Product Key recognised, so I just used a pure Windows 8 SL installer)

    I just found out that I can't even transfer my Users folder or Program Data to other drive than the one with the system, because it would prevent me from updating my system or even from actually booting to my system. So apparently my whole topic is for nothing... I guess I should live with only one drive, and whenever my system totally crashes again I should do the backups to my external HDD. It's sad though that Windows 8 is a total opposite to user-friendly OS, to say the least.

  • Some questions about importing HTML files

    Hi, folks
    Let's suppose we want to import a pack of HTML files formatted in HTML5 wit's it's CSS into a double-oriented folio. A couple or three questions about that, please:
    1. Is there a limit for a reasonable quantity of HTML files I can import into a folio? I mean.. 100 would be way too much, for instance?
    2. These HTML files could be navigated and referenced from inside TOC-pages made in InDesign,right? (navto://..., I gues?)
    2. Will it be possible, by means of HTML adaptative design techniques, to treat both orientations (vertical and horizontal) as different viewports or screen sizes so that the design adapts for instance the column width with its CSS?
    3. That said, will the InDesign final app. respect that adaptative CSS rules?
    I am asking this because we are looking for a way to inject big quantities of content with a very similar design into our application in a really fast and automatizable way and I have the suspicion* that importing HTML5 preformated CSS files could be the a very good and simple alternative to importing XML into InDesign templates as we start out content as tagged almost-html files.
    Thanks a lot
    Gustavo Sánchez (Posting from Madrid)

    I assume you are asking about using HTML articles.
    1. There is no limit beyond simply keeping things reasonable.
    2. Yes. Just use navto://articlename
    3. Yes. I've used min-width of 768 and max width of 1024 to control it.
    4. InDesign does not enter into any of this with the exception of using the folio builder panel. Everything else is done in Dreamweaver or whatever program you decide to use for the article.
    If you want to restrict the HTML articles to one orientation or the other, use the _h and _v suffixes.

  • Question about calling batch file by using the System Exec+.vi?

    Hi
    I have a problem about calling batch file. I know that the system exec is equivalent to "run" in Windows. I called the batch file c:\rtxdos\bs\ch0.bat successfully in the "run" but it didn't work in the LabVIEW program. The dos prompt had an error message "Bad command or file name" and it just happen when I call this batch file in LabVIEW. Why?
    Bill.

    Hi,
    Try to set the "working directory" parameter of System exec.vi to the directory where the batch file is located. It may help.
    Good luck.

  • Please help..question about sending pdf file from my ipad to another

    I have a pdf file in Kindle that shows up under documents. I am wanting to locate it and send it from my ipad to another..whether through email or even share through kindle. I contacted kindle and they said I have to contact apple with instructions to retreiving the pdf before I can send it. Anyone know how to do it. It shows up in docs on my kindle app but doesnt show up in itunes or on amazon. Help appreciated!!!!

    I copied this from another discussion - that ironically enough - James and I both participated in. The OP never responded to what I suggested, but I think that this may work.
    I think that the Kindle app uses file sharing so see if you can transfer the files to the computer via iTunes with file sharing.
    iOS: About File Sharing
    Then drag the pdf file from the file sharing window (or use the save to button) onto your desktop. Email it from there and you can even email it to yourself on the iPad and store it any other other PDF app that you may have.

  • A few questions about executable Jar files

    Hi,
    I have to make an a tutorial system and was going to make it using applets embedded in webpages. This approach causes certain limitations so decided to make it using JPanels that open up as windows on the users computer.
    I intend on compressing all the files (java, images, sound etc) within a Jar file and would like a few questions answering.
    1. How would I make an executable Jar file that when clicked on will load the program on the users computer. Is there some software to do it for me or do I have to do it from the command prompt?
    2. Is using a Jar file the best approach or is there a better way to get my java program to run on other peoples pc's
    3. If I create an executable Jar file on windows xp, will it run on a Linux machine?
    Cheers

    1. How would I make an executable Jar file that when clicked on will load the program on the users computer. Is there some software to do it for me or do I have to do it from the command prompt?The SDK contains all the tools you need. Use the jar command. To make your jar executable, include a manifest file that references your main class.
    2. Is using a Jar file the best approach or is there a better way to get my java program to run on other peoples pc'sA jar will work just fine.
    3. If I create an executable Jar file on windows xp, will it run on a Linux machine?Yes.

  • A Few Questions about Portal Server6.2 on Windows XP

    Using jstudio_ent_04Q4, I installed the following components on Windows XP Pro:
    * AppServer7
    * DirectoryServer5.2
    * IS6.1
    * PortalServer6.2
    We created a portal app by the following steps:
    * deploy our portlets wars (use IS/bin/pdeploy.bat)
    * copy the sample portal, rename it, and modify
    the display profile
    * re-deploy the portal (use IS/bin/deploy.bat
    redeploy)
    The steps work fine for the Solaris installation, and seem to be fine on the Windows installation - no errors. However, when we try to run it, it failed because the App Server can't find the servlets generated from the jsps. It appears that the servlets are not generated in the first place.
    The sample portal works. But I can't find the web app associated with it in the App Server Console. On a Solaris installation, you can see "portal" and "portletsamples" under the Web Apps in the App Server Console.
    1. Does anyone know where can I find the installed web apps on a Windows installation?
    2. Has anyone tried to install portals on PS6.2 on Windows?
    I noticed that MosesJones mentioned Windows pdeploy may have a bug.
    Thanks for any help on these issues,
    Lee

    The pdeploy bug on PortalServer+AppServer+Windows is verified by a very helpful Sun contact in Sydney, Australia. The workaround is to copy your portlet WAR file to the C:\Sun\PortalServer\tmp\portlet directory, and run the pdeploy command from that directory, e.g.
    C:\Sun\PortalServer\tmp\portlet> C:\Sun\PortalServer\bin\pdeploy deploy -u "uid=amadmin,ou=people,dc=synergy,dc=com,dc=au" -w admin123 -p admin123 -g helloworld-portlet.warAlso, to redeploy, it is important that you copy your original WAR file to the tmp\portlet directory as deployment makes changes to your original WAR file. For example, it adds the portletappengine.jar file to your WAR file and registers listeners in your web.xml. An attempt to deploy the existing (from prior deployment) WAR file in that directory will result in a "IllegateStateException" when you view your portlet.
    In addition to the above, I was also having problems getting the Portlet deployed/registered correctly. After some investigation, it is found that the root cause of the exception is a ClassNotFoundException, wrapped by the observed UnavailableException (in the portlet log file). The portlet class is found to be instantiated via the default Class.forName(...) method, which uses the class loader of the caller. Debugging shows this to be an AppClassLoader rather than a WebAppClassLoader, and as such not able to find the portlet classes. The correct way of doing this is to use the 3-argument Class.forName(...) method and pass in the current context loader. Long story short, you will need to patch the com.sun.portal.portletappengine.impl.LifecycleManagerImpl class (portletappengine.jar) and replace the existing "Class.forName(...)" call in the "createPortlet(...)" method with "Class.forName(portletClassName, true, Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader())".
    I hope Sun support engineers pick this up for their next release.
    Thanks,
    jeff

  • Questions about "Diff Sequence File With..." function

    Hello,
    I've started working on a project where I'm maintaining a piece of older code written by a since-departed employee of my company.  It's a TestStand 3.0 sequence file calling on Labview 7.0 code. The thing is, there were two of these installations done at different times and, somewhere in the woods between stations 1 & 2, the code base diverged.  Part of it was due to not being able to get exact duplicate hardware for the PXI chassis and part was, apparently, due to the fact the client used the 2 machines to test different UUT models.
    So, I'm looking at copies of the installed code base on the two machines using the diff feature in TestStand.  (If it makes a difference, I'm doing this viewing in TestStand 3.5 since TS3.0 has mysteriously gone corrupt on me at the moment on my main development computer and, if memory serves, you have to uninstall all the later version of TS to reinstall an older version.  An altogether fun process, no doubt, but a little time consuming.)
    Anyway, the first thing I notice is that very many of the sequence steps have different Step Properties.Step ID values that look something like this: "ID#:2vMTp0db002mQDXArddRSA".  Messing with the diff screen showed an option to "Ignore Unique Step Ids" which got rid of these.  Regarding these unique step ID's: When are they generated and do they remain constant on a particular machine?  Beyond mere curiosity, I wonder because another diff is in some of the "On Pass Target" or "On Custom Condition True Target" under certain Step Properties and the value under there looks suspiciously like those unique ID's (i.e. ""ID#randomstuff"").  Are these all dynamically updated at runtime or will I break something by changing those (say if I copy a sequence from one version overwriting it in the other)?
    So, I filtered the unique ID's out.  The next large area of difference is that many, but by no means all, Labview VI calls have a difference under Step Properties > Flexible Labview Adapter Properties > ViCall > Connector Pane Checksum > Value.  Also, in a few other instances, ViCall > error out > Connector Number is different as well.  Does this indicate a different underlying VI?
    There are a few other differences, but I can interpret those.  My goal is to get one sequence file for both machines so the code will be easier to maintain.  I do think that some of the VI's with different Connector Pane Checksums may be different between the two installations since one of the different hardware components required a different driver library.  This leads to a third question, what does it take to use identical sequence files when the underlying VI's might differ?  Is it just the interface needs to be the same?  Like the connector pane has the same geometry and data types for the exposed inputs and outputs?
    Thanks for any help,
    Mike
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I just got off the phone with NI support, so no worries on the answers.
    Short versions:
    The unique ID's are regenerated when a sequence is copied.
    Teststand doesn't need higher versions uninstalled to reinstall an earlier copy.
     Connector Pane Checksum implies a different underlying VI, but having the same connector geometry/inputs/outputs/types should allow you to have a different VI for different installations without different sequence files.
    Still waiting to hear back from support on whether the goto pointers get updated properly when a sequence or portion of a sequence is copied.

  • Question about moving library file/playlists

    I've just switched to a new computer, and while I was able to move my music and video, my playlists were gone(the music and video were on an external HD, but the library file with the playlists was on the old computer's HD). I've found the library file on the old computer, and I plan on plugging the external HD into the old comp and copying the libary file to it as a means to getting it onto the new comp.
    Just one question: The previous comp was badly corrupted by viruses. I'm worried that if I copy the library file to the new comp, the new comp will become infected as well. Is this a risk? What can I do to prevent it?
    Also, if I get the library file onto the new comp....then what?

    Format the drive using your PC. Connect it to your Mac. Transfer the files. Connect to your PC. All is well.
