Question about resolution of a DVD project

I have numerous Standard Definition MiniDV tapes that I want to make DVDs with.  Will selecting an HD output format improve the final image?

  • Question about subclips in a long project

    Hello all;
I am editing a 1 hour long documentary in full HD with a lot of clips and so forth in it.  What I have been doing is for some segments creating a sequence in another project, rendering it and saving it as a H264 Full HD format, the same as the main project.  Then importing that rendered version into the main project instead of all the component parts.  This makes it harder if I want to change anything in that segment, but it cuts down on the load time of the main project, and seems to work OK.
My question is - when I finally render the whole 1 hour project, will these included clips get degraded because they will be (I guess) rerendered?  Is there a better strategy for this?  Also, I'm doing the project in three 20 minute sections that I intend to simply run back to back in Encore when I'm done.  Is that likely to be a problem.
Thanks in advance for any advice on this.
    Jim G.

    Hello again.
I hope you don't mind if I ask you a follow up question about this issue of consolidating complex sequences into a rendered video file and then using that in a longer sequence.   On CS5 within the Export screen there is a button labeled, "Match Sequence Settings"  if I render a segment with that selected and import that into a longer sequence is that a problem too?  Or do I have to select something like AVI lossless?  Or should I avoid that as well?
Finally, for After Effects segments that I want to incorporate into Premier, I can use the Dynamic LInk thing, but it seems to mess with the color when I see it in Premiere.  Would it be OK to use the lossless renders from AE in the CS5 timeline?
I apologize for pestering you with these questions.
    Thanks,  Jim Greeson

  • Question about elearning - OKP SAP Commercial Project Management

    Hi Gurus,
i have a question about an e learning course which SAP offers-
    Course Name- OCPM10-
OCPM10 - OKP SAP Commercial Project Management 1.0 | SAP Training and Certification Shop
It's an e learning course for 20 hours, below are my questions-
Since its an e-learning course, is it to be completed in a specified time (within 2-3 days) or we can have access to it throughout the year but duration of course is 20 hrs
What kind of documentation is provided to me as part of this course.

    1. C_TPLM22_05 - SAP Certified Solution Consultant PLM - Project Management with SAP ERP 2005
It includes SAP PLM 235 course material along with PLM 200, 210 220, 230,
    2. C_TPLM22_60 - SAP Certified Application Associate - Project Management with SAP ERP 6.0
It is not including the PLM 235 course.
This is the basic difference between  it.  IN Certification there are  6 -7 areas , in each of them you have to score more than 70 % , there many few multiple answer questions as well. Finally over score will come it should be higher than 70 %.  So, I ideally weight all the topics equally,
    With Regards

  • Question about resolution of project vs. res of material to be imported

i am trying to put a project together that consists of still images (which i can prepare in any resolution) and some film material (avi and mov) which comes in the size of 640x480, square pixel aspect ratio.
what do i have to do in order to set up a new project in FCe to so i can import this film material and be able to create an output that can be burned on a dvd and will play on regular dvd players without distortion (would it need to become something like 720xsomething?)?
my available tools are FCe 3.5 and QTpro. any help will be appreciated!

ok! - the key hints about selecting "DVCPRO NTSC" and "select the motion tab and tweak the scale and aspect ratio settings" is probably what i was seeking...
i wonder what happens to the material when i change frame rate from 35 to 29.7 (i need to do this, right?)
some possible quality loss is not concerning me in this particular case because i will have sepia and heavy grain and stains as photoshop layers over the whole project to make it worn and look old. blurryness will be ok as long the jpg artefacts stay not too large and distinctly boxy.
i will try this out - thank you so far! frame rates and codecs are still a huge mystery for me. i am used to dealing with all kinds of resolutions for web or offset print use, there i have dimensions at a certain number of dots per inch and once the system is understood, it is easy to accomplish about anything.
i wonder if there is somewhere a source that lists video and film sizes, resolution frame rates and codecs and explains it all, along with examples when to use which...!

  • Question About Sony Handycam Mini DVD + iMac

A friend recently asked me how she can compile all her half-hour long mini DVD's onto one normal sized DVD. She said she has tried several things but couldn't do it. I have a Sony mini DV recorder and thought I might be able to import the video from her camera the same way I import from mine to my iMac then burn it onto a disc. But I am not able to hook the camera to my iMac because there's no port for a firewire or a USB connection on the camera itself. Any ideas for how I can consolidate these smaller discs onto one DVD?
    Thanks

MiniDV (little cassette tapes) or Mini-DVD (miniature optical disks you can stick in a set-top DVD player and playback)?
The former is the format that you would use if you intended to edit the video, and the latter is the format you'd use if you simply wanted to playback the video as it had been recorded without modification. They are not compatible formats as the physical media is different, but so is the data stored on those media.
A MiniDV camera minimally has an i.Link / mini-FireWire400 port on it for data transfer to the computer. The computer can control the camera through this port, use it either as a live camera, or operate it as a VCR and capture the video as it plays back into the computer. MiniDV video is captured real-time from the camera, meaning that if you recorded 60 minutes of video, it will take 60 minutes to transfer to the computer. The capture data will be in DV format, which is effectively uncompressed 720x480 at 29.995 frames per second (for camcorders using the US' NTSC standard video resolution anyway).
On a Mini-DVD camcorder, the camera may not have a port for connecting the camera to a computer to transfer the video. If it does, it is probably a USB or mini-USB port that allows the camera to be used by a computer as an external DVD recorder. If it is a without-connector model, transferring video would mean taking the mini-DVD out of the camera and putting it in a computer -- however Macs cannot take the mini disks and require and external DVD drive to read them. The MPEG2-encoded video on the DVD drive is highly compressed and not really suitable for editing. Manipulation of the content will necessarily degrade it, so you will lose video quality in the process of handling it, reencoding it, and reburning it.

  • Photoshop CS6: Question about Resolution when Post-Cropping Film Scans

Hopefully, somebody with more understanding than I on this topic, can help me with this.
I am about to get a film scanner I have on order, to scan in 35mm negatives. I've had one before but I had problems with the model and had to return it.
When scanning film frames, I like the idea of setting the scan area marquee, at the scanning stage, so that it scans slightly beyond the film frame edges, so that I can carefully crop to the edge of the film frame later, in Photoshop CS6, rather than setting it, at the scanning stage, and then later, when examining the film frame in CS6, maybe discovering that I have not scanned to the edge of the film frame quite enough, as I can easily zoom right into the image when in CS6, to carefully examine where the film frame edges are.
My concern about doing it like this, though, is that I may be reducing the resolution of the image. For example, say I scan a film frame in at 3600ppi, and later crop the image slightly in CS6 in order to precisely trim off any slight amount of black around the film frame edges. By cropping the film frame like this in CS6, am I reducing the image resolution of the film frame to lower than 3600ppi? As I best understand it, I do not think post-cropping like this results in any reduction in image resolution, but am I correct in thinking this?

    Hi.
The scanner is a Reflecta ProScan 7200. As I said to station_two, I am in London. I understand the brand is known as 'Pacific Image' over in the US.
The scanning software I will be using it with will be 'SilverFast Ai Studio 8'.
Do take a look at this excellent review of the scanner:
    http://www.filmscanner.info/en/ReflectaProScan7200.html
(I may be incorrectly assuming too much when on these forums that I am speaking exclusively with folk from the US - the way you spell 'labour' makes me think you are not from the US?)

  • Question about the size of my project

3.25 GB 20 or so tracks. a few plugins each a few software drums and synths. I getting overload warnings here and there. Not the I/O level the audio level. I look at the fear lilly Allen demo which has 50 tracks all sorts of plugins and a vid. 1.45 GB. I selected and deleted unused in audio bin and still the same. What am I missing. Logic Pro, IMAC 3.06 core 2 Duo 4 GB ram. Thanks Bill

Still stumped, I've deleted all unused audio files, deleted all unused midi. Maybe a third of the project. I see nothing in the trash, Project size is still the same 3.25 GB. Bypassed all reverbs, And audio CPU level still maxing out in the red. What am I doing wrong. Thanks Bill
When you speak about project size, do you mean the size of the project file itself? Or of the entire project folder?
When you delete tracks or plugins from your project, you won't see anything in the trash, that is normal. Only when you delete an audio file from your disk +from within Logic+ you'll find that audio file in the trash.

  • Question about the relationship between a project and Mobile Me album

Hello esteemed members of the Aperture community
I have a puzzling issue. I have published a project on MobileMe. My project is arranged somewhat chronologically, and I want MobileMe to follow this. However, the MobileMe album in Aperture does not synchronize with the project, and subsequently, the gallery on MobileMe does neither. How do I tell the MobileMe album in Aperture to synchronize itself with my project, and update changes as I edit the project, or am I just totally confused...always a possibility?
    Thanks in advance

You sort of answered your own question in the title: Your Mobile Me gallery is an album. By design, changing the sort order of a project does not affect the sort order of related albums and vice versa. You'll have to make those changes in the album to have them reflected in the gallery.
I know of no way to have an album synchronize with a project. (Note: if you make adjustments to images or delete images from a project, those changes will be reflected in the album, but the sort order will not.)

  • Qosmio G20: Questions about MCE Recovery CD/DVD

I bought this Qosmio G20 laptop few months back. Its cool. I live in Asia where media centre edition is not launched with this series. I have a Windows XP home edition with this laptop. Can anyone tell me whether its possible for me to format this OS and install MCE on this laptop? And where could I get media centre edition's recovery cd/dvd ? What is the procedure to install Media Centre Edition from recovery cd if I get one? And anyone would like to share their media centre edition recovery cd with me would be great.
pls contact me on this email address [email protected]
    Thank you very much (:

    Hi
In my opinion the only solution is to install Microsoft WMCE (full version). I dont believe that you will be able to get original recovery DVD because the hardware is bundled with software and you can just order the same if you lose one.
Like I said you can try to install full version but you must be careful because this unit support RAID and you must install RAID driver at the beginning. The Qosmio player should also be installed before you start to install MCE. Please check Qosmio area on this forum and you will find a lot of useful topics about Qosmio G20 installation.

    Good luck!

  • Question About the Pen Control in Project Siena

    Hi, good day.
I'am working on some tech demos with Project Siena, and I need to use the pen control so that the user draw some lines in the main page of the app. I decided to hide the pen controls, so there's only a white canvas. Sometimes the user will need to erase
some strokes... and because I hide the controls, I need a way to toggle between Draw Mode and Erase Mode.
I added a Toggle Switch so that in the OnCheck method I could add this expression "PenMode!Draw" or "PenMode!Erase",
but it doesn't help. I think I am using a wrong way. Are there any suggestions on how to switch between draw and erase mode within the pen control, without showing the controls?
Also, is there any way to erase or reset ALL the strokes in the pen control? For example, drawing some lines inside the pen control, and that the user can clean all the strokes at once.
    Thanks,
    Antonio S.

    Antonio,
It is possible to do both.
I have uploaded an example of this called Pen Control to the following:
    https://onedrive.live.com/#cid=5CEEF21796F5830D&id=5CEEF21796F5830D%218724
    For the Mode Toggle:
Set the Mode (Design > More > Mode) to CTRLpen
Create a Slider with the Min set to 0, and the Max set to 1.
Set the Slider's On Change to the following:
    If(Slider1!Value = 0,UpdateContext({CTRLpen: PenMode!Draw}),UpdateContext({CTRLpen: PenMode!Erase}))
    For the Erase All
Set the Pen's Clear to PenClear
    Create a button.
Set the Button's On Select to the following:
    UpdateContext({PenClear: true}); UpdateContext({PenClear: false})
    Note:
CTRLpen and PenClear are names I made up.  You can replace them with whatever names you want to use, as long as they are not names reserved by Siena.

  • Question about choosing an external dvd/cd burner

The burning speed listed in my iTunes preferences goes up to 24x, then "Maximum Pssible". I am thinking of purchasing a LaCie DVD/CD burner that has write(48x)/rewrite(32x)/read(40x). When using with my iMac does this mean that I can burn at 48x with the iTunes burning preferences set to Maximum or does the maximum burning capabilities with my iMac top out at 24x?
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?
    Thanks for any help.

The 24X currently in iTunes is reflecting the speed that is capable of the internal burner in your iMac.
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?
This is to ensure that your burner does not run out of data while it is burning. If the burner runs out of data, the burn will fail.

  • Thousand and first question about resolution

From yesterday we are happy owners of Mac Mini. Beautiful, everything works and all that. Last task is to setup resolution for Panasonic 42" HDTV. Mini recognized it immediately as PANASONIC TV and suggested resolution 1280 x 720. Picture is there but not quite right.
Tried this suggested in one of the answers before:
How to Get 1080P, not 1080i, out of the Mac Mini. This is the tough one. When you go to the Displays control panel on the Mac Mini (Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5), you are given lots of video choices. However, the maximum resolution says 1920×1080 (interlaced) at 60Hz. What gives? I’m not sure, but it seems like a bug. The secret is to enable the checkbox that says “Show displays in menu bar”. If you do then, a displays icon appears in the menu bar. Click it to get a drop down menu of all display resolutions. Interestingly, there are now two 1920×1080 options, which are labeled identically. Choose the other one! You’ll now be driving full 1080P (confirmed by the Vizio).
For me second 1920x1080 res line never appears in drop down menu. Suggestions??
    Thank you,
    Zack

Typically computer output will look better with a progressive resolution. With interlaced resolutions, a picture element like a horizontal line that is only one pixel in width will get drawn to the screen only once every alternate frame. This will cause the line to flicker badly relative to the rest of the screen.
But if the intent is to just show movies or photos or content like that, and avoid text and other more typical computer applications, then 1080i can look good. It's really up to you to decide which works best for your application and the gear you own.

  • Question about resolution

hi, i just bought the 24in LED monitor and i also have the 15in mcp (late 2008) and i was wondering what resolution setting i should have it on bc i doesnt look as clear as when i saw it at the apple store. thanks for your help

You should always run an LCD display at its native resolution. For your 24" LED ACD, you need to run it at 1920x1200.

  • Question about setting up my first project

I'm trying to take a project that I have in eclipse and transfer it over to JDeveloper. I'm using version 10.1.3.0.2 that I just downloaded. I'm building it 1 file at a time letting JDeveloper basically build it the way that it wants.
I'm stuck though trying to include a 3rd party jar file. I just log4j and I can't figure out how to get JDeveloper to recognize it.
Which buttons do I click to include log4j.jar in the project that I am building?
    Thanks,
    Ray
PS. It looks great so far. I downloaded because I am very interested in ADF Faces and the interface the JDeveloper has for it.

I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.2. I just downloaded it yesterday.
When I right click on my Project, there is no Profiles option in the menu that pops up.
I've tried all sorts of things to get the jar loaded. I finally did get it loaded but that didn't resolve the errors in my java classes.
In fact, I'm even having problems with the code that I have coded. I cut and pasted code from my Eclipse IDE and it can't find anything that is outside its package even when I have an import for it and the code is defined to the project.
What setting do I have wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ray
