Question about returning ipod nano

I just got my ipod nano a month ago and my hold lock won't unlock. So my mother is taking it back to circuit city where we it got from. But has any one ever took there ipod back to the store for another one and what did they say. Or what should i do?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your iPod is not working you can take it to an Apple store to be looked at and fixed or replace (or you can take it back to Circuit City)

  • Question about returning iPod USB Adapter...

... Recently my adapter stopped working and Apple sent me a new one. Now the one I just recieved did not come with a return shipment label as far as I can tell (it has a P/N numbers and a package ID), so what am I supposed to do in this situation? Do I create my own return label?

Well there is a receipt pull out and it does say that I should return the item back within 10 days. The label, as far as I know, isn't one of those labels that apple normally send with returnable items that you just rip off and has the return label under it. It's just two stickers with my address on it. Now has anyone ever been charged for not returning the item?

I heard about the iPod Nano recall over fire risk, I entered my info online and it said that I was eligible, but since early December I have not heard anything more from itunes/apple. In which time someone I know has sent off theirs and received their replacement nano already. Is there an email address I can email to request info? Would be much appreciated! Thank-you.

use the info you got in the email and check your repair status on apple's website

  • Questions about the ipod camera connector...

    Hi,
i got some questions about the ipod camera connector.
1)Is the camera connector compatible with the Sony camera DSC-P93A ?
In fact, this camera got PTP protocol.
    PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) Oui
Marque PIM (Print Image Matching) Oui
    PictBridge™ Oui
So, do the camera need to have the three following protocols to be compatible with the camera connector ?
=>Mass Storage, PTP, and Type 4
Or maybe does it need only one of it??
    2) Is it compatible with a USB memory card reader?
    Thank you

Wel, if i've right understood what you said, my camera is compatible because it got PTP protocol ?
That's weird, cause i wrote a mail to sony to ask them about the compatibility of my camera, but they answered that it wasn't. But of course, i'll prefer to believe you than them !

I am from Germany. I have a Question to the iPod nano 1st gen replacement program: Can I upgrade to Ipod touch 8GB? The new Ipod nano Generation is too smal for my hands

Hello! Not a problem, because you will get a Ipod Nano 1st generation as a replacement, not a new / latest generation.

  • Question about multiple ipods on one computer

I set up my own ipod nano on my computer and I have been using it without problems for some time. Now someone else in my family got the same ipod nano. I do not know how to set up this new ipod. Do i use the same software already on my computer? Do i just register this new ipod? Please help. Thank you

    Hello!
Let me explain this in detail for you:
    The Do Not Disconnect screen
It is normal for your iPod to say this message to you when you connect it to your computer.
When you need to disconnect it from your computer, you'll first need to eject it.
There are a few ways to eject your iPod; through iTunes, the Safely Remove Hardware program, and "My Computer".
    Through iTunes
Ejecting your iPod via iTunes depends on what setting your iPod is on for.
Connect your iPod. Go into Edit> preferences> iPod. See what setting your iPod is on; "automatic" or "manual".
    Automatic
If you aren't restoring, or updating your iPod, iTunes should automatically eject your iPod from iTunes. If it doesn't, then right-click the name of your iPod in iTunes, and make sure that the "enable for disk use" is un-checked.
    Manual
If you need to eject your iPod from iTunes if the setting is "manual", click the little arrow that's next to the name of your iPod in the left source list in iTunes.
Through the "Safely Remove Hardware" program
Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen, and there's the system tray icons there. If the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is there, click on it, select your iPod, and click "stop".
    Through "My Computer"
    Go to "My Computer".
Find your iPod's listing there (it's typically "E:" or "F:").
    Right-click it, click on "eject".
For additional information about ejecting your iPod, check this Apple Support articles about it.
    Safely disconnecting your iPod
About the "Do Not Disconnect" and "OK to Disconnect" screens on iPod
Any more questions? I'll be glad to try to help you again.

  • Question about the "iPod radio remote"

I assume the "radio remote" is the same for every country and is under software control. I want to buy in Canada but use in UK and Canada.
Has anyone got one and seen the RDS work, in the UK almost every FM channel is RDS. Do they have RDS in Canada (Toronto) can anyone confirm?
And of course it says FM so this again I assume no AM, not that I need AM it was just an interest in if it could do it.
What happens about headphones, you can plug a pair into the remote, can you still plug into the bottom of the iPod or does the remote connector get in the way.
What is the story with "line out" I use this all the time as I amp my headphones. So I assume you cant use line out? or is the remote a line out also.
And I assume the remote cable and you headphones act as the aerial, how is the quality? Is it any good indoors, some little FM radios I have used drop to mono indoors. Does this Apple one frop to mono if the signal is weak?
Someone that has one can perhaps answer
    Cheers
    Ray

I can at least answer some of the questions.
The RDS function on this radio/remote is poor in the
UK. You have to set the radio function on the iPod
to "Europe" and when you do this RDS info is not
displayed on almost all radio stations such as
Virgin, XFM, Capital, GLR, etc. It does display on
Radio 2 however. At least, this is my finding. So
it's unpredictable at best. Setting the radio to
"USA" on the iPod increases the likelihood of getting
the RDS to display, but the downside is that you can
then only tune the radio in increments of 2mhz which
is a bit awkward if your looking for 89.1mhz!
There are three settings for the radio which you
choose via the iPod. They are USA/Europe/Japan. No
setting for Canada, although I'm sure you will still
be able to use it over there as I can still use mine
here in the UK even if it's set to USA.
No, there is no AM radio.
You can plug headphones into the remote or the
headphone jack on the iPod, or both at the same time.
I'm not sure I understand your question about the
bottom of the iPod. The radio plugs into the iPod
    via the dock connector.
There is no 'line out' on the iPod. If you mean the
one on the dock, then no you can't use it as you
cannot place the iPod into the dock whilst the
radio/remote is connected as they use the same
    connector.
Yes the cable of the remote acts as the aerial.
Reception is surprisingly good where I am, but it
will of course depend on where you use it. I've
used it indoors without any drop in signal or it
    dropping to mono.
Lastly, you need to update the software for both the
nano or the 5th generation for the radio to work
(after you do this a radio function appears in the
menu), and some users have found that doing this
screws up the iPod. I have mine working on both the
nano and the 5th gen without any problems.
There is a review of the radio/remote here. I like
mine and consider it a worthwhile accessory, but of
course there will be those who disagree.
    iPod
    Radio/Remote Review.
    Thank you for the reply.
Think your right USA or Europe will work in Canada.
Yes I mean the line out via the dock, I just wondered if the remote become a line out socket (I also use a pocket dock for line out for headphone amp as I use a pair of Sennheiser HD600 with my ipod) but of course that is silly becasue you have a volume control on the remote and line out is normaly fixed.
Based on your views I shall get one in March when in Toronto
    Cheers

  • Help. about the ipod nano charged with usb 1.1

i just got the ipod nano. now i am charging it. according to the mannul, it will take 3hr to charge it by usb 2.0.
considering i only have usb 1.1, so my question is how long it wil take to charge the nano. until i wait for 6hr and the screen still shows do not disconnect. i can transfer the music and image to the nano. thanks.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how long the charge will take with USB 1.1, but I'd guess it would be way longer that "twice as long".
The "do not disconnect" will show as the display until you eject the iPod thru iTunes.
Now here the tricky part since I don't have a 1.1 USB. If you eject it thru iTunes, I believe the screen will show if it is still charging or "charged". So when you know you need to charge it, plug in to the `puter, then eject and leave it connected, to see what happens.
I do recommend getting the USB power adapter. For USD30.00, it is really worth it. Well, for me at least. I charge regularly (4 times a week) and only plug into my computer to add more music (maybe once a month). Your usage may be different, but it is so easy to come home and just plug it into the dock (plugged into the wall).

  • I have a question about damaged ipods.....

I know about returning them to an apple store and then they will give you new one if its less then a year. Well my friend gave me his ipod and now a sad ipod pops up on the screen and its not working. Well i want to take it to the apple store but am i going to run into a problem because i am not the actual person who bought it?

If this is the same iPod that was damaged in the rain, the warranty is not going to cover it. Sorry.

  • A few questions about the iPod Touch

Okay so I'm thinking about getting one of these because friends have recommended them and I have the money. First off I bought a 2nd gen ipod nano off ebay a couple of months ago but lost everything on my pc so I'll have to replace all of the songs before I can sync it. Does this happen with the ipod touch? Or are they actually stored on it? Also, what are the best features of the ipod touch over the nano? And is it really worth it? Another friend has an iphone and said I should touches are crap and I should get an iphone because they're so much better, but they cost like 3x more than touches. Why are iphones so much better? Help is appreciated.

    Does what happen?
Are you blaming the loss of files on your PC on the iPod? You should always backup your PC's files whether or not you have an iPod.
    vedderfan94 wrote:

Of course the songs are actually stored on the iPod, how else would you be able to carry them around with you and play music?
    vedderfan94 wrote:

    Touch screen and apps.
    vedderfan94 wrote:

    Your call.

The Touch does not contain a cell phone, camera, GPS, or compass but otherwise essentially the same as an iPhone and running the same O/S.

  • Question about using iPod with a Mobile Mulitmedia system

    Hi All,
I bought my wife a 16g 4th genration iPod Nano to use with her Valor Mobile Multimedia system in her car. When she plugs the iPod in the system via the iPod cable, all it says is "connecting". It seems to recognize the iPod but doesn't fully connect with it to play the music. I've tried my daughter's older generation Nano and it works fine as does my 60g video iPod.
I've tried to contact Valor but their website isn't very intuitive. I've left a message with their tech support as well as emailed them, No repsonses yet.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks all.

The tv connects to your tv via HDMI or component.
The tv plays video either from it's hard drive which it gets by syncing it from the contents of your itunes library on your PC or by streaming it directly (as it plays it) from the itunes library on your PC.
Data from itunes can be sent to the tv either by ethernet or wifi.

  • Question about normal ipod usage

Hey, probably a stupid question guys, but I'm new to using a hard disk MP3 player and I've noticed when I have my ear right up against the back of my ipod video and I change songs and the such, it makes not such a scratching noise, but very quick clicking noises. Its probably just the noise of normal hard drive operation, but I figured I'd play it safe with my 500$ investment and check it out with you guys first. Also, in a proper case, are these things OK to go jogging with? Or will that fatigue the hard drive?
Ipod Video 5.5G 80GB   Windows XP Pro

As for jogging, yes, any type of good case will
suffice, just make sure it holds it securely. I
remember hearing somewhere in these forums that the
iPod has something like 25 minutes worth of skip
protection, so unless you're throwing yourself down
the side of a mountain, you should have no difficulty
enjoying you're music while you run. I trail bike
with my 30GB iPod, and have never run into any
problems. I use the Speck ToughSkin and it works
    great for me.
    Completely disagree here. Sorry.
    From my personal experience...
I run 6 days a week 45 minutes each day. Last year I ran with my 30GB iPod every day. I destroyed it. It had a hard drive and I think I shook all the parts around. Eventually, my iPod began freezing and pausing for no reason. I had to stop running just to reboot it. There were more than a few times that I lost all my music on my iPod. Luckily, I was able to get my music back after loading it up from iTunes when I got home.
Then one day, the spin wheel stopped working. I couldn't do a thing with my iPod. Earlier in the day, I had to reboot it and I lost all my music. No problem I thought. When I got home, the music from iTunes couldn't be loaded into my iPod. I lost all of my music.
I took it to the Apple Store and they asked me if I run with it. They do not recommend running with an iPod unless it has a flash drive. I bought a new 30GB iPod and a 4GB nano. I only run with the nano cuz of it's flash drive.
It took about a year for my 30GB iPod to fall apart. The destruction happened slowly but rest assured that it will eventually happen. Invest in a flash drive iPod or run without music. Your final option would be to buy a new hard drive iPod every time it falls apart. The choice is yours.
Yes, the clicking you hear is normal
