Question about SAP Support pagackes

Hi all
I am trying to understand more about SAP Support packages. Can anyone please help me to answer the following questions.
1. How do we find out  waht version of Support package currently installed on our system. ( e.g what command or transaction provides this info).
2. How do we find the latest support pack available from SAP?
3.   Do we have to apply support pack to each component or to each module e.t.c
    ( Any command or tranaction....)
4.  What is a  differnce between SAP kernel support pack and SAP Note.
5. Is it requirement to  apply support package from SAP solutaion manager or can also be applied throught transaction
Thank you very much....

Hi Julio,
1. How do we find out waht version of Support package currently installed on our system. ( e.g what command or transaction provides this info).
Go to Txn SPAM --> Click on Package Level --> Check the level against SAP_BASIS or SAP_ABA
2. How do we find the latest support pack available from SAP?
http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks --> SP Stack Information
3. Do we have to apply support pack to each component or to each module e.t.c
( Any command or tranaction....)
There will be support packs for each component like SAP_BASIS,SAP_ABA,SAP_BW .. etc and you can apply them through SPAM.
4. What is a differnce between SAP kernel support pack and SAP Note.
Kernels are central program that are required to run SAP system and these programs reside in OS level.Kernel support pack means correction to these cental programs .There is no transaction for this. You can replace the existing files with the new one ( in simple words ) . SAP note means correction to SAP programs , more than one SAP note is called a Support pack and Note can be implemented using SNOTE and Support packs using SPAM
5. Is it requirement to apply support package from SAP solutaion manager or can also be applied throught transaction
Now you need Solution Manager to download Support packs from SMP.You can apply SPs in the target system without using Solman.
Thanks
Prince Jose
PS: points are appreciated

  • Some questions about SAP esourcing

    Hi expert,
I have one question about SAP eSourcing. In RFQ document, before RFQ award is published, our customer do not want the price of RFx response disclosed to collaborators. After the award is published, the price can be released to collaborators. As I know, we can use page customization to hide page field. But the price is collection field. So I failed to use page customization to hide it.
Pls advise me how to realize it.

  • 3 important questions about SAP HANA

    Hello Community!
I have got 3 important questions about SAP HANA.
    1.
    - Our Company has all up about 150 SAP - Systems.
    - 12 Systems are ERP-Systems.
=> We consider about SAP HANA at the moment.
=> Is it possible to put all the 12 ERP-Systems in ONE SAP HANA or do I need one seperate HANA for each ERP-System?
=> If it is possible, can you tell me the disadvantages when I use 1 HANA for the 12 ERP-Systems.
=> Is there a Storage-Limit in the HANA (I think no, because of 64 bit).
=> Can I still make realtime-analytics with 1 HANA for 12 SAP Systems?
    2.
=> Can I run ONE HANA with different non-SAP-Systems?
    3.
=> Is there a Demo-Center from SAP or IBM, where I can test and see the HANA before I buy it?
(I do not mean the Fujitsu TDS Demo Center)
It would be nice, when you would answer all my questions.
    Thank you.

=> We consider about SAP HANA at the moment.
=> Is it possible to put all the 12 ERP-Systems in ONE SAP HANA or do I need one seperate HANA for each ERP-System? Yes it is quite possible to put all the ERP/CRM/SCM or other components on one HANA. You need to check for pricing/users/RAM (storage)
=> If it is possible, can you tell me the disadvantages when I use 1 HANA for the 12 ERP-Systems.
There are no disadvantages as of now.. improve existing planning, forecasting, pricing
    optimization and other processes
=> Is there a Storage-Limit in the HANA (I think no, because of 64 bit).
There is no limit on Stotrage: You need check how much Data you need on RAM (Real time processing) Storage.Minimum you can buy is 64 GB and multiple of it for (RAM)
=> Can I still make realtime-analytics with 1 HANA for 12 SAP Systems?
    Yes certainly..
    2.
=> Can I run ONE HANA with different non-SAP-Systems?
YEs you can run HANA for 3rd party S/W or non-sap systems for your real time anlytics.
It has ODBC and JDBC both and you can combine it with other systems.
    3.
=> Is there a Demo-Center from SAP or IBM, where I can test and see the HANA before I buy it?

This you need to check with your local SAP Service channel..

  • Question about  SAP client setting when create new connection in CR2008

    Dear All,
I have a question about SAP client setting in Crystal Report 2008 when I try to create a new connection use SAP OpenSQL(SAP Table,Cluster,or Function).
I have a SAP IDES environment with 5 clients.
While I try to create a CR standard report use SAP OpenSQL, I entered 800 into Client field in u201CUser logon credentialsu201D. The connection can be created and I can get table list. After I built a report ,I can not get data from IDES client 800, but I can get data from client 000.
I am sure client 800 has data.I checked client 800 table with Tcord se16.
I also did other tests and felt confused a lot.
Even inexistent client, such as u201C00u201Dand u201C8000u201D can be used for creating connection.
I just want to know how can I get data from client 800.
    Thanks for your kindly help!
    Wayne

    Dear Ingo,
    Thanks for your reply!
I am not sure about your suggestion clearly. What's your mean all the authorizations to use CR?
Maybe I should clarify my operations.
I logon CR2008 as administrator and created two SAP connections with different client.
There is a table named "/BEV3/CHBALLG" be showed in these connections.
I checked  clients "000" and "800" both have data in the table.
I can use client 000 connection create report and get right data, but the report base on client 800 connection could not get data.
If change to another table, such as "/SAPDMC/LSOFIL", I can get data both form these connections.
I found one thing is very weird. Client "00" and "8000" do not exist in my IDES environment, but I can use them for creating connection.
May I have your further suggestions?

  • Quick question about SAP Security analyst responsibilities

This question was posted on another site and I was asked by the moderator to  cross-post it here:
On another discussion forum, the topic of the SAP Certification program came up. In the discussion thread, there was some debate about the subject areas tested on the exam for SAP security, so I am putting the question to you.
At your current workplace, which of the following, if any, are responsibilities/ expected competencies of your experienced SAP Security analysts:
    Encryption
    Single Sign-on configuration/ maintenance
Network topology (SAP router and web dispatcher)
    Operating system (SAP gateway)
    Database security
    J2EE
To categorize the responses, it would be helpful to know if you consider yours is a relatively large SAP support organization or not.
Thanks in advance for your responses and comments.
    Regards,
    Gretchen Lindquist

    Hi Gretchen,
I am a consultant so have a slightly different perspective than an end user.
A typical client security engagement for me will involve 3 or 4 out of those competency areas and on top of that: secure communications & secure application (what I know and love as roles & users, some of our friends will refer to that as secure coding).  In general, security administrators at my clients focus on roles & users and their competencies are only in those area.  That is the same for small (<500 users) and large organisations (>20k users)
In my opinion this is one of the problems with our industry and in particular with individuals who consider themselves SAP Security professional.  It is no secret that the wider security industry often views SAP Security practitioners as a bit limited in skills due to the lack of understanding of infosec basics.
SAP security is not just roles & users, SoD's & SU53's.  They are an important part of securing SAP but only a few of the components.  As you have pointed out in the competency areas SAP Security is about the environment in which the SAP system resides and operates and our need is to ensure the C,I,A over those systems that support business processes.
As an employer I expect a SAP Security professional to have understanding of all of those competencies (and a few more).  In the same way that GRC is much more than a tool provided by SAP, SAP security is a holistic subject that by necessity covers multiple subject areas.
Regarding expectations of a security analyst, I expect them to be able to understand the wider security environment around their system and to be comfortable talking about things like comms security, SSO, secure programming (the basics), OS, network topology and DB security (the basics).  Most importantly they should know how they work together to form the security environment and where the dependencies or touch points are between them.  It's not unreasonable for basis and technical teams to perform much of the work in these areas but that is not to say that "out of sight is out of mind".
I don't hide my views on the inadequacy of the certification process in it's previous incarnations.  SAP is doing great work to improve this which is a positive step.  What is critical is that a demonstration of competency (e.g. certification)  in SAP Security covers the whole subject (or as much as practical).
If people want to break the topic down then that's great but resulting certifications should be pointed out as what they are e.g. Certification in role & user administration.
I hope there is something in there to provoke thought & discussion!
    Regards
    Alex

  • Questions about SAP's SRM capabilities

SRM Experts, I have two questions:
    In SAP, is it possible:
    1. To have "Amount Only Requisitions", that is, specify requisitions that enable requesters to order goods and services specifying only a dollar amount and not quantity.
    2. Reopen Closed Requisitions and Purchase Orders, that is,  re-open ANY previously closed requisition or purchase order, not only those from the last batch of the Close
    Reconciliation process.
    Thanks!

    Ok let me try...
    1) One of the Key building blogs will be the SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1. Its provides the ES Repository for Service Metadata and the ES Registry for the Service Endpoints. The Registry you use for finding and classifcation of your services. Any yes XI/PI could be used as ESB.
Another keybuilding block is the SAP NetWeaver Composition Enviroment 7.1. This one is used at Design and Runtime for Composite Process, Composite Views and Composite Application which consume Enterprise Services.
    2) WS-Poilcy, WS-Adressing and BPEL is defenetly supported with PI 7.1(release planned for september 2007)
    3) This a part of the NetWeaver Composition Enviroment. For Monitoring you need brokered Service communication... in this case you can use PI as integration Broker which is able to monitor your communication.
    4) Exacutable Business Process(BPEL) are supported by PI 7.1
You are able to Design these processes with the Design tools of the PI.
For Highlevel Process modeling ARIS for SAP Netweaver is integrated.

  • General Question about SAP Documentation. Where to find?

    Hello,
I am relatively new in the SAP business and so I have some general questions about the SAP Documentation.
    Often internet-links like
    http://help.sap.com/printdocu/core/Print46c/en/data/pdf/FIBP/FI-AP-AP-PT.pdf
are posted here by group members.
But where do these group members find these documents?
All I can see at help.sap.com is IDES (the model company created by SAP)and the WWW-version of the SAP-Bibliothek.
Were can I find these PDF-Files?
I would appreciate any hint and tip!

  • Question about SAP R3 4.7 on vmware enviroment

    Hi all,
I have an SAP R3 release 4.7 with SAP Basis 6.20 (Kernel 6.40) on a 32bit physical hardware.
Can I virtualize it on vmware esx server? Is this SAP release supported on vmware enviroment?
    Thanks in advanced
    Moreno

    Hi Eric,
my SAP release is 4.7 ext. set 1.10.
From chapter 5 on SAP note 1409608:
    5 Configuration requirements
    For productive SAP systems
    - All SAP applications that are based on SAP NetWeaver '04 SR1 (kernel 6.40) and higher are supported for productive use as
long as you have implemented enhanced monitoring for virtualization. Check the requirements and minimum support
package levels mentioned in Note 1409604 for the activation of the enhanced monitoring.
If I understand SAP support only release NetWeaver '04 and higher, then from SAP Basis 6.40.
My SAP release have SAP Basis 6.20 so it does not supported.
Is it correct what I wrote above?
    Thanks

  • Misc. questions about SAP's SOA software

    Hello,
I am a computer science student at the Fachhochschule Aachen in Germany and I'm writing my master thesis about serviceoriented architectures.
Amongst other products I plan to present what SAP has to offer for SOA. But I'm missing some information, which I couldn't find at the website. I hope somebody can help me with my questions:
    1) What are the products you need for building a basic SOA? Is the Application Server + Business Intelligence + Exchange Infrastructure enough? And how about something like an ESB? Is Exchange Infrastructure an ESB?
    2) In my thesis I describe several standards that help with serviceoriented architectures. I want to check if these standards are implemented and if they are, in which product, which version and how extensively? These standards are:
    - WS-Policy, WS-Adressing
    - JBI (Java Business Integration)
    - SCA/SDO (Service Component Architecture/Service Data Objects)
    - BPEL (Business Process Execution Language)
    - WS-CDL (Web Service Choreography Description Language)
Are there other important (open) standards i didn't mention (other than the real basic stuff, WSDL, SOAP etc)?
    3) What tools does SAP provide for testing and debugging the services and processes?
    4) What tools does SAP provide for Business Process Management? What about process modelling?
    5) What support does SAP provide for new customers, that are building their first SOA?
I know there is much documentation about all this stuff, but this will take only 2-3 pages of my thesis, so I don't have time to read hundreds of pages of documentation.
Every help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • A few questions about SAP MDM

    hi,
my company is preparing now to implement system for corporate reporting. I am wondering if MDM would be useful for this. Reporting tool will be SAP BW.
I have read some documentation on help.sap.com and have some queations:
    1. I saw paragraph 'Master Data Objects' and there was only a few objects. Does it mean that MDM supports integration and management of only those objects listed there? Or I can use MDM to map any other master data like e.g. 'product groups' ?
    2. Does MDM have its own data repositories or only provides mechanisms to match MD from various systems and sends it back to its clients (or SAP BW)?
    3. Does MDM distribute data in XML format or in other way e.g. IDOCs?
    Thanks,
    Andrzej

You ask very fundamental questions and I'm afraid my answers will lead to more confusions. But to ask is the only way:-)
    > 1. I saw paragraph 'Master Data Objects' and there
    > was only a few objects. Does it mean that MDM
    > supports integration and management of only those
    > objects listed there? Or I can use MDM to map any
    > other master data like e.g. 'product groups' ?
MDM can supports any business objects you model in MDM. The ones you mentioned are coming with ready repository and XI mapping but you're not confined to use only them.
    >
    > 2. Does MDM have its own data repositories or only
    > provides mechanisms to match MD from various systems
    > and sends it back to its clients (or SAP BW)?
Yes, MDM has its own repository and even to match MD from various systems you have to import it to MDM before.
    > 3. Does MDM distribute data in XML format or in other
    > way e.g. IDOCs?
XML and plain text are currently available formats for output and XML and all supported DB's native formats are available for importing.
I advise you to read materials from the MDM page on SDN and for MDM scenarios see my last article (not published yet):https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/mdm/mdm - many different models, part one.pdf

  • A question about SAP licensing

    Hello:
I need a clarification about the SAP licensing. First, let me give you an introduction.
My company signed a license agreement in 1999 with SAP when buying SAP R/3 4.0B. Since then, and for cost reasons, there was not an agreement to migrate our licenses to the different schemas proposed by SAP along these years, i.e. mySAP or Business Suite. Currently, we are paying our annual maintenance since 1999.
We are in SAP 4.6C now and are we are forced to migrate to ECC6.0 because 4.6C will not be supported in 2011.
We are preparing the upgrade to ECC 6.0, but it seems that we should first "upgrade" our old licenses to Business Suite yes or yes, and pay for the difference; is that correct? So it means that our annual maintenace payment is not  useful to upgrade SAP 4.6C to ECC 6.0 without cost?
    Hope you can help me.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    >So it means that our annual maintenace payment is not useful to upgrade SAP 4.6C to ECC 6.0 without cost?
We had exactly the same case when upgrading from R/3 4.7 to ECC6. We had to re negotiate all the prices to go from a R/3 license to a Netweaver license.
I even think this is the real reason of the name change to ECC (5 or 6)  instead of R/3 5.0 !
"It's not a software upgrade; it is a change of software..."

  • Question about SAP + SLES10 + vSphere and the truth about memory

    Hi,
we are using vSphere and SLES 10 for a SolutionManager 7.0 on MaxDB 7.6.
The system is configured with 2 GB RAM in the VM. The database is configured to use 125000 pages as cache (100000 KB).
Yes, I know the system is configured very small for this usage, but it is a demo system...
But the system is really slow. I can't figure out whats the problem.
The RAM is configured with 2 GB in the VM a "free" in linux shows me that there is 500 MB used for file system chache
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
    Mem:       2076908    2002704      74204          0      28936     578212
    -/+ buffers/cache:    1395556     681352
    Swap:      6185016    3037744    3147272
so this shoud be ok, for me it is close to the limit...
But VMware infrastruture client shows me, that there are only 300 MB of the 2GB is used ... but the database should use 1 GB and SAP should use some RAM , too.
So who tells the truth? Where does the RAM goes to if it is not used in VMware? Could this be the performance problem?
An other problem is, that the show dev_io of the database shows me very slow access to the files ...
    i.e.
    I/O via Device Processes:
UNIX Devspace                                                Read    avg_read      Write  avg_write
tid name                                                           count       time            count       time
    28596 /sapdata/SYS/sapdata/DISKD01       6532     0.0294        101     0.2077
But VMWare shows that there is nearly no usage of DISK ... average is shown as 150 KBps...
So again, who tells the truth?
What else could be the problem?
    Thank you.
    Best regards
    Christian

    > I know 2 GB is less, but the system is still 32 bit Linux, so 6 GB is "impossible".
Why that? The 32bit limit is a per process limit, not a limit for the amount of total supported memory.
    > During the long weekend the system is switched to an other VMServer I am going to request more RAM. What a pitty that 32 bit does not support more than 3 GB....
I don't know who told you that but it's wrong
    > But there is still the question whats correct? The linux variant of free or the VMware infrastructure client monitoring the RAM?
    > What could slow down the Database IO performance?
    > USE_OPEN_DIRECT we are already using ...
Are you sure it's the I/O peformance? A couple of questions arise then:
    - What filesystem is underneath?
    - How are your data files distributed?
    - What are your I/O times for a single I/O (you can switch that on using DB50 - TAsk manager - and press on the "clock", the time will then be displayed in the database analyzer.
If you use VMWare on a recent processor you can also switch nicely to a 64bit Linux.

  • Question about SAP note instruction(subroutine does not exist)

    Hello Experts,
I was just given a task wherein I need to manually apply a SAP note but in the instruction it says that I need
to edit a subroutine that when I checked does not exist in the function group. Now, do I need to create that subroutine
    or am I missing something?
Hope you cna help me guys. Thank you and take care!

    Hi,
You should not have created that subroutine on your own, it seems like its an Formula Routine created from tcode VOFM -> Formulas -> Condition Value. so create a routine with number 49(access key required) and add the code to it.
But as this is a Enhancement implementation, i recommend you to implement this Notes by importing the support package for the component SAP_APPL. Details about support package level in which the note corrections are delivered are given in that notes. so better take help of your basis guy.

  • Question about SAP Enterprise Services Explorer 1.1

    Hi ,
        1. I use dotnet connector before and now someone told me that I can use SAP Enterprise Services Explorer 1.1
            but when I download this app, it says '90 day evaluation ';
            what about after 90 days?

and our scanner's OS is Windows Mobile 5.0 which<Model:intermec 700C> can be developed in VS 2005.
my question is can I develop a windows mobile application with using SAP Enterprise Services Explorer 1.1?

From a mobile PC application you can connect only webservice or you should have to develop you own RFC connector from zero.
the architecture I use for Pocket PC is some webservices hosted in a .net webserver. The pocket PC connects the .net webserver and my webserver used a RFC proxy. My RFC proxy is built with SAP .net connector, JCo, or Erp connect, a .net api for sap developped by a great guy ...
