Are your Edit>Color Settings the same?
Are you using spot colours, such as Pantone (there have been some changes in CMYK values with new colour books)?

  • .indd files not opening with recently installed Indesign CS3

The .indd files don't have the Indesign icon next to them, instead they have the win32 icon. When I double click on one of the files an error message appears telling me that...
"this file is not a valid win32 application"
Even when I right-click on the file and choose to open with Indesign, it tells me the same thing. Also in this options menu, Indesign is not shown with the Indesign logo next to it, but rather the windows generic 'unknown file type' logo.
If I open Indesign first however, and then choose file>open and choose the file. It opens fine.

Exactly my situation yesterday, with the icon disappearing and INDD files not opening within InDesign from Explorer.
I'm using an early XP Pro, which I guess qualifies it as 32 bit.
The steps to rebuilding everything using the Folder Options in Windows Explorer are:
Tools > Folder Options > File Types
If INDD is not listed, click the New button to creat an entry, otherwise select it and click the Advanced button.
You have an option to change the icon, so navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 and select the InDesign icon.
Then under actions you need to create four actions that will relate to the context menu choices when you right click an INDD files, so click New and add actions for edit, open, preview and print.
In the Application used to perform action box enter "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\InDesign.exe" "%1"
Those quote marks are important. Just browsing to InDesign.exe will fill the box for you, but for some reason - for me at least - it creates the %1 indicating to open the file you selected, but it doesn't wrap it in quotes. And without those quotes (at least on my machine) InDesign will start but won't load the file.
There is also a check box to use DDE. I don't know what's appropriate here, but I ticked the box and it works OK.

  • My computer thinks a Indesign CS5.5 file is open

My computer's power source failed and turned off while an Indesign CS5.5 file is open.  Now trying to access the file, my computer (a mac) thinks it's still open.  I'd like to either "close" down the file my computer thinks is open or delete the file (I have good copy on an external hard drive).  Anyone have any advice?  Thanks so much.

Is this document located on your computer, you're not working on it across a server where someone else might legitimately have it open? If that's the case, look in the folder where this document is located, see if there's a file name in that folder that starts with a tilde and ends with ".idlk". That's the lock file that keeps multiple users from opening the same document in a shared environment. If it's only you working on this, it should be safe to delete it, and you should then be able to open the file.

Check exception list of your Firefox password Manager and check if your site is there or not?

  • IDML file saved in CS6 does not open in CS5

    Hi there,
Trying to figure out this problem. A file created in InDesign CS6 we saved it as a idml file to be opened from cs5. When cs5 tries to open it it complains about plugins are missing.
Has anybody run into this problem?

Tried saved as IDML as well, both didn't work.
    Complained about a plugin missing
    Which plugin(s), specifically?
that's all it said, when I click ok nothing happens
When I go to about InDesign in the list of missing plugins it's blank

  • CS5 indd files occasionally change after saving and reopening

Occasionally the contents of my InDesign document will change after saving and re-opening.  No errors reported during the save however when the file is opened a text box may be out of place or leading may be messed-up on a few random pages or some of the recent changes may not have been saved.  Any ideas?

There was no direct indication that you created the code in a standard module. I asked because you reported that the code works in the sample workbook that you downloaded but not in your own workbook.
I don't know what else to suggest at the moment.
Could you create a stripped-down copy of the workbook (without sensitive information) and make it available through one of the websites that let you upload and share a file, such as Windows Live SkyDrive (https://skydrive.live.com),
FileDropper (http://filedropper.com) or DropBox (http://www.dropbox.com). Then post a link to the uploaded and shared file here.
Or register at www.eileenslounge.com (it's free) and post a message in the Excel forum. You can attach files up to 250 KB to a post there (zipped if necessary).

  • Question about RAW to JPG file sizes

Hello all, I have a question/concern in reference to file size changes when converting from RAW to JPG formats in PSE6. I've recently purchased a CANON 50D, and have started shooting in RAW format (actually RAW2+JPG). I have the CAMERA RAW 5.2 plugin and my workflow process is something akin to this:
    1. Separate all RAW and JPG images into their respective folders.
    2. Open the RAW folder in BRIDGE, and then open up a CR2 file. CR2 file is approx 15MB at this point, as reported in Finder.
    3. Perform various corrections in ACR52 to the file, then do as SAVE AS to a DNG file.
    4. Next step is to OPEN IMAGE, bringing it up in PSE6.
    5. Make any necessary corrections to the picture, and then do a SAVE AS to a new file name and folder, selecting JPG format.
    6. Selection MAX QUALITY from subsequent dialogue box, and SAVE.
When the file is saved, its now down to a mere 2.1 or 2.2MB, and when viewing its properties (vs. the same file that came from camera in JPG format), its down from a 44x66" format, to somewhere around 4x6" and 240dpi.
I've been doing some reading on this over the weekend, but cant explain away the severe loss in file size, and whether this is right, or if I'm doing something wrong in the process.
Appreciate any advice or suggestions to help improve my work processes, and ultimately the final photos!

Regarding your file size questions, have a look at this thread and see if it answers some of your questions:

Dimensions and resolution are related and multiple combinations can be produced from the same number of pixels. For example, your 50D at maximum image size produces 4,752 by 3,168 pixels. This full-size image could be printed at:
    - 19.8 x 13.2 inches at 240 PPI
    - 47.52 x 31.68 inches at 100 PPI
    - 7.92 x 5.28 inches at 600 PPI
As you can maybe see, talking about dimensions and resolution doesn't make much sense until you are ready to consider printing. Note also that I used "PPI" or Pixels Per Inch since this is the slightly more correct terminology. DPI or "Dots Per Inch" is usually a reference to how a printer lays down the ink drops onto the paper. Many printers actually put more "dots" on the paper than there are pixels. Many people and companies use DPI when they mean PPI.
Now in your case you are apparently starting with an SRAW2 raw file. SRAW2 files from the 50D have a reduced number of pixels and are 2,276 pixels wide by 1,584 pixels high. At 240 PPI this would allow you to print the image at 9.9 by 6.6 inches. If you are ending up with something smaller than that, it means you have either re-sampled the image (changed the image so the same image is displayed with fewer pixels) or you have cropped the image.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why will .indd file not open in id CC?

I have chapter .indd files from a production group. The Links folders are in the same file folder. I get file type not supported, missing plugin, or file open in other app when I try to load the id chapter files. Any suggestions?

Are you sure about all the file types?
And you are using the current version of InDesign CC, version 9.1.0?
There is a script by Jongware you could use to identify the version of an InDesign file:
    IDentify.jsx
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273#4071273
You can run it from InDesign and check the file from the production group…
Maybe it was gone corrupt in transfer to you?
Did you recieve a zip archive with all the files and folders?
(That would minimize the possibility of corruption)

  • Files still opening in CS5

I downloaded CC yesterday and still have CS4 and CS5 on my Mac (can I delete either of these?). When working in CC and clicking to open a file from Bridge, CS5 opens and the files opens in CS5 rather thab CC.  Ideas?

    mcmxlix wrote:

The answer to that question requires some explanations:
You didn't need to keep the older version each time  you installed each new versions.  All Adobe upgrades are FULL INSTALLERS, they don't need a prior version to install.  If they don't find a prior version installed, the upgrade installer just asks for the old serial number as well as the new one.
You're not supposed to "delete" but to uninstall recent Adobe applications by using the Adobe Uninstallers that Adobe installs when you install every recent version of Photoshop, certainly CS4 and CS5.
Never just drag the application folder to the Trash.
However, the problem you face  is that running the Uninstaller now brings a high risk of damaging the install of the newest versions, as there are similarly named files in similar locations placed there by each installer.
The best time to uninstall an older version—if you decide not to keep it—is BEFORE you install the newer one.
If you decide you still want to uninstall the older version(s) now, after the fact, your best bet is to uninstall every version, including CC, with its own uninstaller, beginning with the oldest one, and when you have uninstalled all of them, run the CS Cleaner Tool (downloadable from Adobe), and then finally re-install CC.
You will find the Uninstallers either in your Applications/Utilities folder (as is the case for CS4) or inside the Photoshop application folder (newest versions).

  • Saving a PDF in CS6, opening in CS5

How can I save a PDF in CS6 and open in CS5 and still have editing capabilities?

I don't think there are version options when saving as a pdf, but as you may know you can save ai documents for previous versions. Have you tried opening a pdf created in CS6 in CS5?
The following image appears after you hit Save in the first menu.

  • Question about saving calendar and contatcs

    Good Morning to all ,
I have a question about how to transfer the calendar and contatcs files to the new outlook profile after a imap migration. So what is the best way to transfer this kind of data before the imap migration for example to prep 70 machines? Any Powershell or
vbs script to save the calendar and contatcs into a pst file?
    Thank you in advanced.
    Thiago.

So what is the best way to transfer this kind of data before the imap migration for example to prep 70 machines? Any Powershell or vbs script to save the calendar and contatcs into a pst file?
Without knowing Outlook version involved and/or whether there are any additional email accounts configured in any given profile beyond the one being migrated to IMAP - some general comments
#1 - Simply add the same email account as an IMAP account to the same profile. That will result in the "default data file" remaining the same which contains the default "contact & calendar" folders. There is nothing that limits the
same email account to be configured with multiple protocols unless there is a setting that also needs to be set at the server level (i.e. GMail)
#2 - Delete the related "non-Imap" account from the profile - that is has no impact on the data file associated with the account
At a minimum - Contacts/Calendar folders remain as is with the only caveat being that the email folders in the original PST file will contain data which you (your users) may or may not want to completely get rid of (something you may want to check/confirm
    beforehand)

  • .nef Nikon files not opening in CS5

OS X 10.9.2 - New Nikon D7100 .nef files will not open in CS5 - Camera Raw 6.7.1 - I tried to update Camera Raw to 7.1 but to no avail. What else can I do? TIA

That camera requires at least Camera Raw 7.4, which is not compatible with Photoshop CS5. The cheapest option would be for you to use the latest DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your NEF files. Those can be opened with what you have now. Or, you could add Lightroom to your workflow. Or, you could upgrade your Photoshop.

  • Question about creating multiple XML files from same query

I have a query like this:
    select * from emp;
    ename empno deptno
    Scott 10001 10
    Tiger 10002 10
    Hanson 10003 20
    Jason 10004 30
I need to create multiple output files in xml format for each dept
    example:
    emp_dept_10.xml
    emp_dept_20.xml
    emp_dept_30.xml
each file will have the information for employees in different departmemts.
We are using DBMS_XMLGEN package to generate XML.
The reason I need to do this is to avoid executing the same query 200 times for generating the same output for different departments. Please let me know if it is practically possible to do this.
    Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot!!

one solution i can think of is to use SQLX operator instead of dbms_xmlgen.
    here is a sample example.
    declare
      l_xmltype xmltype;
      l_deptno  emp.deptno%type;
    begin
for i in (select * from emp order by deptno)
      loop
        select xmlconcat(
                    xmlelement("ename", i.ename)
                   ,xmlelement("sal", i.sal)
                   ,xmlelement("detpno", i.deptno))
          into l_xmltype from dual;
        dbms_output.put_line(l_xmltype.GetClobVal());
      end loop;
    end;
/Now here you can open the query once, keep writing to the file till the deptno
is same, when the deptno changes, close the file and open a new file with new
    deptno and start writing.
Note : in this way you will have to add the xmlprolog manually to each of the file which should not be an issue. after opening the file add the prolog string manually.
    Hope this helps.

  • Newbie question about saving files

    Hi all,
A newbie question here, and maybe it is a dumb question, but I can't get my head around this and sofar found no answer in the forums here.
When I save a file on my macbook, I can only save it to "top" folders.
What I mean is I try to save a file for instance to documents/worddocs/lyrics just to say something, then I have to save the file first to documents, and the move it to the lyrics folder via finder or move it to :worddocs folder and then move it again to the lyrics folder. Hope you still get my drift here
Is there a way to just save it to the subfolders without going through all this moving around?
Thanks in advance for any advice
    Peter

When you click File>Save As, you will see the Save As window pop up. At the top, you will see a box entitled Save As, which has a space for your to enter the file name. To the right of this box is an arrow pointing down. Click it. The full file hierarchy will be seen. Then you can save directly to the file you want.
    Hope this helps.
