Question about "server"

I am looking to put all of my media on a "server". I currently have an iMac that I seem to never have on at the right time. I have the opportunity to get a "nettop" with an Intel Atom D410 with 1GB of RAM and XP. Is this powerful enough to a) run iTunes 10.1 and b) to stream HD video. Is the computer responsible for playing the HD video, or is it more about streaming the video and the aTV decoding it?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes it can, I use this type of scenario a lot.

  • 11g client questions about Server Explorer lookup functionality

    At my job we are looking to replace another sql developer tool with ODT but there appears to be some bugs in the system still. Maybe I could get some help with these issues. We are currently using VS2005.
    First of re-opening a connection after it has timed out is painful. The only way I have found to reconnect (besides restarting VS) is to close the connection, open the connection and then go to modify connection and say OK, but that procedure is not 100%.
    Second in package bodies when double clicking on a procedure in the body it may or may not take your cursor to that selected procedure. I have been trying to figure out what the conditions are that will allow this lookup to work correctly I have even re-created existing packages with the ODT package wizard and it will still not focus on the selected procedure.
    Another thing I dont really like is that is the package body is broken you don't know it just by looking at the package tree, you have to explode the package spec to see the body with the red x. It would be nice if the body broke it would break the spec for easy scan for broken packages.
    One more request for a feature and I'm done. I wish there was a Find that would work with the server Explorer where I could say I want all the EMP table references and it would give me all of the views, procedures, packages where that table is used. This is one of the popular functions with our current sql developer tool and would be nice to it in ODT.
    I am really excited about this product and can't wait to see what features are added next.

    Thank you very much for the detailed feedback! See below for my comments:

    Glad you are looking into ODT. However, keep in mind that it is not a 100% replacement for Oracle SQL Developer which has more features. ODT is geared towards the Visual Studio developer. You should still have a look at Oracle SQL Developer as well, in case it suits you better.

    In general with any Oracle application, when a connection times out you generally have to close and then reopen the connection to get going again. So what you are seeing is expected. I guess we could try to automate this for you, set via an options page. But, a better question is - how come the connections are timing out so often? Maybe you should discuss with your DBA if the timeouts are set unreasonably. Or even better, if you manage the database, just turn off the connection time out.

It always works for me. Can you attach a create script to this thread that could let me reproduce it?

    That's an interesting suggestion - a top level icon to indicate that something in the package is broken, the spec or the body. In Oracle a package is really two pieces, the spec and body and we are trying to portray it as one thing.

    I am really excited about this product and can't wait to see what features are added next.One of the biggest new features is Performance Analyzer. The tricky part of Perf Analyzer is to get enough database activity to generate helpful reccommendations. But once you do, I think it is a great feature.

  • SQL 2008 R2 standard reports - question about server dashboard and what it refers to as "adhoc" queries

    So I have started looking at some of the standard reports available with SSMS and in particular, the "server dashboard".   One thing that caught my attention were the charts that referred to "adhoc" queries.  I wondered how
    those were being defined, and as I expected, they are most likely those statements not in a stored procedure.  This was answered in
    this thread.
    On a particular server Im interested in, this % value is well over 50% and the primary applications that interact with the databases on this system are Microsoft based products such as Dynamics and another commercial application which I know uses hundreds
    of stored procedures.  Now, Im sure there are some sql statements being used, possibly "dynamic" type sql, by these applications, but would the metrics really be skewed this far?
    What these charts tell me, with the "adhoc" statement types pushing CPU and Disk I/O %  this far, is that there is a BUNCH of these statements being run against the various databases.  The disk I/O might be a bit off since I only recently
    added dozens of missing indexes, but my question is this:
    With the "adhoc" type statements taking up this much of the CPU and Disk resources, can we say that there are likely a lot of these going on ?  I suppose one way to find out is to launch profiler and listen in while there is moderate
    to heavy user activity.
    Thoughts?

    Hello,
    Adhoc queries are DML statements with not parameterization. Sometimes users use this statements, and sometimes these statements come from applications.
    Use Query #2 on the following link to identify those adhoc queries:
    http://mssqlfun.com/2013/04/08/dmv-5-queries-runing-are-adhoc-or-proc-single-or-multi-use-sys-dm_exec_cached_plans/
    Identify if those adhoc queries belong to specific users or applications.
    One of the options you have to deal with is is the following configuration option:
    sp_CONFIGURE 'show advanced options',1
    RECONFIGURE
    GO
    sp_CONFIGURE ‘optimize for ad hoc workloads’,1
    RECONFIGURE
    GO
    Hope this helps.

  • Question about server (element) joining dispatcher

    Hi Experts-
       I have two implementations of EP6 SP2 on two separate servers.
       For database server, one uses Oracle 9i and the other uses SQL Server 2000.
       Something different happens on these two server when I run the "go.bat" files from dispatcher and then the server.
       In the case of Oracle, when both the "go.bat" files have loaded sucessfully, the dispatcher windows shows the text ">Element 1234567890 joined". [1234567890 being an example]
       In the case of MS SQL2K, when both the "go.bat" files have loaded sucessfully, nothing happens. The dispatcher windows does not show the text ">Element 1234567890 joined". [1234567890 being an example]
       In both these cases, EP runs fine (and intriguingly) similar.
       What is the cause for this difference? Has anyone else noticed this?
    Thanks,
    - Vik.

    That is odd that you do not have joined under SQL 2000. I am running an EP6 portal under SQL 2000 and the Joined shows up for me. If you run the go.bat from the dispatcher directory you should definitely get this message although it may take several minutes

  • Two questions about SG300 DHCP server

    Hi,
    I have two questions about the DHCP server on the SG300:
    On the Address Binding page, what does the "Declined" state mean? I have a NAS device that won't pull an address, and I think that the entry with a state of "Declined" corresponds to this device. It was previously pulling an address from a RV180, so the only difference is that it is now connected to the SG300. I worked around this by manually setting the address on the NAS device, but this won't scale if I run into a lot of other devices that can't pull an address.
    I configured a static address binding for a WAP321 and found that instead of pulling the configured address that it pulled a dynamic address. I checked the Address Binding page and see that the dynamic entry that corresponds with the WAP321 has a Client Identifier rather than a MAC address. I changed the static entry for the WAP321 to use the client identifier displayed in the dynamic entry, and now the WAP321 pulls the configured static address. Is this expected behavior?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    With the SX300/500 it is required the client identifier, it doesn't automatically insert it. If static DHCP is made on the switch and you didn't need client identifier, that is more or less fortunate behavior for you
    So to answer this question, the expected behavior is to configure client identifier for static DHCP entry.

  • Questions about mac mini iTunes server, streaming to macbook pro, ipads, etc.

    I'm thinking about getting a mac mini to work with my NAS as a iTunes server. I have a bunch of questions about this. I will have two iPhones, a few iPads, and a laptop that will be accessing the files. I have iTunes match. This is basically to keep an always on computer for hosting the music/movies. My questions are as follows . . .
    #1 Are there any good, comprehensive guides to show you how to do this?
    #2 Can the movies be accessed when not at home on the shared network?
    #3 Can the iPads or the macbook pro download the shared movies to be stored locally?
    #4 Back to #3, how will it work on my macbook pro with listening to music (I have iTunes match)? Say i go to library and I break out my macbook pro and I don't have internet. What happens if I download music while at home onto my macbook pro to listen to it when I go to the library? Will i start a new library on my macbook pro? How will that mesh with the home server when I come back.
    #5 Is there a way to mirror files or folders? So something that I have on my macbook pro will also mirror on the home server.
    Thanks for your help on this. I'll post any follow up questions.

    I do not know if it is the same model number, but this one will work in your MBP:

    2. I want to replace the HD with a 128GB SSD 840. When I replace these drives, will my OS still be in tact? I have never done this job before.
    No. You will have to format the drives in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then install the OSX by using the original install disks.
    3.) I want to replace the ram sticks to max capacity. This is 2 2GB sticks, Correct?
    No.  An early 17" 2008 MBP will accept 6GB RAM with the following specifications:  200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    4.) Most difficult...
    I want to extend the monitor wirelessly to a projector. I thought about using Apple TV and Airplay. However, support for airplay is for MacBooks 2011 and newer. I thought of using a PS3 and the media server, but I think this brings on a format compatibility issue. (my library is so large I could not afford to convert all my movies to MP4.) So, how would you recommend I put my extended monitor with VLC player onto a projector?
    Could I possibly connect the MBP to a Mac Mini as an extension? would this work natively? I would rather use a VGA cord than F with 3rd party app BS.
    Cannot help you there.
    5..) I want to Bypass iTunes this time around. I would prefer to use Finder and VLC to manage all of my music. I mostly play all my music on shuffle, so, could I create a playlist on VLC with all of my music and play it randomly? (im sure this is possible but i'd like to organize all my plans with confirmation.)
    You are not obligated to use iTunes.
    6.) Can i upgrade the keyboard to backlit? i've read that this is possible.
    All MBPs have back lighted keyboards.  Your either needs a NVRAM reset or a repair.
    Ciao.

    Hi Friends,
    i have a question about the sharepoint server 2010 install.
    my computer is used the windows server 2008 service pack 1. in order to install the sharepoint 2010 server, i need to choose to windows server 2008 service pack 2. my question is when i install the windows server 2008 service pack 2,whether the inside
    of my computer  information will be lost or change?
    thank you in advance.
    Qearl

    Hi ,
    No data will be lost either from your Windows program files or other drives as long as it is an upgrade.
    After upgrade you will still be able to see your old program files under windows.ol folder in the C: Drive of the new OS.
    The data will be lost only when you perform a clean install like complete formatting the HArd disk and installing from scratch.
    As mentioned it always good to maintain a backup preferable important files in a skydrive as there is a good chance of external drives crashing.

  • Question about java-based server app frameworks

    Hello, I am working on a Java applet application and would like to choose a Java-based scalable server framework to use within my applcation. I have found a few like xsocket or QuickServer and have a question about other. And, also, which is the one You may advise? Yours sincerely, Slawek

    For online gaming server. I first heard of xsocket and started using this, but have the problem with NAT. I now know that I need to initiate connections from client behind NAT (server has a public IP) and send messages from server to client within the same connection. I am doing this the following way (as shown in examples- below), but it appears that server receives messages, but client doesnt. I dont listen on any ports in client application and just need to take advantage of the connection initiated (information go from client to server properly).
    Server-
    try{ nbc = pool.getNonBlockingConnection(inetAddress, 8090);
    try{ nbc.write("|01|______|02|______|03|______|04|______|05|______|06|______|07|______|08|______|09|______|10|______"); }catch(Exception ee){}

  • Questions about application server architecture

    Hello guys,
    I have few questions about application server architecture
    I have a task to build a server application which will do the following: Clients (special java clients) will connect to it and send some data for further processing on server side. Chunks of data will be relatively small but they will take a lot of time for processing (it is ok that it will be quite slow).
    Also server will run some sort of database where all clients working data will be stored. So, in case a client loses its data he/she is always able to download it from the server.
    For me it seems, like server will consist of the following components:
    1. Reception. This part will be responsible for all client-communication procedures.
    2. Data storage. This part will simply store all clients data and provide some API interface for clients through reception to manage it (add/get/delete and so on).
    3. Processor. Some sort of dummy-sophisticated module. It will take some input data from data storage when it receives order for this and process it. Processor will have two states: busy which means processor processing some data and available which means processor ready to process new data.
    4. Manager. This part will always check data storage for new data and processor for availability. When processor and new data are available manager will make an order for processor to take new data from data storage and process it.
    So, my question is the following: Which technology and approaches I should use to realize my plan?
    I think that I can make reception as a Session Bean, but I dont know yet, what are the best for the rest, for example manager and processor. I was thinking about writing my own application server (and I can do it), but I would like to learn j2ee technologies, so I think it is a perfect chance for me (I read a lot about j2ee before I wrote this post, but all examples have only account-bill-money transfer I think it is quite far away from reality or I am doing something wrong ;-)!
    p.s. I am thinking about using JBoss as an Application Server. I tested it and wrote some tests. They work and run fast enough, so I like it. Moreover it has module architecture.
    Please, give me some advises and tips!
    Thank you in advance!

    1. Reception. This part will be responsible for all
    client-communication procedures.Session bean with remote interface.
    2. Data storage. This part will simply store all
    clients data and provide some API interface for
    clients through reception to manage it
    (add/get/delete and so on).Session bean that will use entity beans or hibernate to work with persistant data.
    3. Processor. Some sort of dummy-sophisticated
    module.Use a message driven bean. Make Reception to enqueue a message when new data is available for processing. Processor will process the data and store the resut in database using Data Storage session bean.
    4. Manager. This part will always check data
    storage for new data and processor for
    availability. When processor and new data are
    available manager will make an order for
    processor to take new data from data storage and
    process it.It's redundand component, because application server will manage messages and processors.

  • Question about using mac mini as a server

    I run a small non-profit agency. Our server (A Mac G4 from about 4 years ago) recently died a somewhat painful death, and we need to get a new one. We're trying to be thrifty, but i don't want to get something that won't meet our needs. Our server needs are very basic. No more than 8 people will ever access the server at the same time, and generally it will be 2-4 people at once. We keep Word and Excel docs on it (It used to host our database, but we will have a separate server for our new database). Do you think a Mac Mini with the following specs would meet our needs:
    80 GB Hard Drive
    1 GB RAM
    1.42 GHz PowerPC G4

    Frank:
    Thanks so much for responding! One question about your post. When you say that the Mac Mini cannot boot in OS 9, does that mean that if I wanted it to hold Filemaker Pro 4 files (which runs on OS 9), that it cannot do this? We would not be running Filemaker on the Mini, just storing the files. We would run Filemaker off of our desktop computers. Sorry, I don't know a ton about computers, so sometimes I need clarification about the terms that people use.-Rob

  • A question about the impact of SQL*PLUS SERVEROUTPUT option on v$sql

    Hello everybody,
    SQL> SELECT * FROM v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    CORE    11.2.0.1.0  Production
    TNS for Linux: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    SQL>
    OS : Fedora Core 17 (X86_64) Kernel 3.6.6-1.fc17.x86_64I would like to ask a question about the SQL*Plus SET SERVEROUTPUT ON/OFF option and its impact on queries on views such as v$sql and v$session. Here is the problem
    Actually I define three variables in SQL*Plus in order to store sid, serial# and prev_sql_id columns from v$session in order to be able to use them later, several times in different other queries, while I'm still working in the current session.
    So, here is how I proceed
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON;  -- I often activate this option as the first line of almost all of my SQL-PL/SQL script files
    SET SQLBLANKLINES ON;
    VARIABLE mysid NUMBER
    VARIABLE myserial# NUMBER;
    VARIABLE saved_sql_id VARCHAR2(13);
    -- So first I store sid and serial# for the current session
    BEGIN
        SELECT sid, serial# INTO :mysid, :myserial#
        FROM v$session
        WHERE audsid = SYS_CONTEXT('UserEnv', 'SessionId');
    END;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    -- Just check to see the result
    SQL> SELECT :mysid, :myserial# FROM DUAL;
        :MYSID :MYSERIAL#
           129   1067
    SQL> Now, let's say that I want to run the following query as the last SQL statement run within my current session
    SELECT * FROM employees WHERE salary >= 2800 AND ROWNUM <= 10;According to Oracle® Database Reference 11g Release 2 (11.2) description for v$session
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25513/dynviews_3016.htm#REFRN30223]
    the column prev_sql_id includes the sql_id of the last sql statement executed for the given sid and serial# which in the case of my example, it will be the above mentioned SELECT query on the employees table. As a result, right after the SELECT statement on the employees table I run the following
    BEGIN
        SELECT prev_sql_id INTO :saved_sql_id
        FROM v$session
        WHERE sid = :mysid AND serial# = :myserial#;
    END;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> SELECT :saved_sql_id FROM DUAL;
    :SAVED_SQL_ID
    9babjv8yq8ru3
    SQL> Having the value of sql_id, I'm supposed to find all information about cursor(s) for my SELECT statement and also its sql_text value in v$sql. Yet here is what I get when I query v$sql upon the stored sql_id
    SELECT child_number, sql_id, sql_text
    FROM v$sql
    WHERE sql_id = :saved_sql_id;
    CHILD_NUMBER   SQL_ID          SQL_TEXT
    0              9babjv8yq8ru3    BEGIN DBMS_OUTPUT.GET_LINES(:LINES, :NUMLINES); END;Therefore instead of
    SELECT * FROM employees WHERE salary >= 2800 AND ROWNUM <= 10;for the value of sql_text I get the following value
    BEGIN DBMS_OUTPUT.GET_LINES(:LINES, :NUMLINES);Which is not of course what I was expecting to find in v$sql for the given sql_id.
    After a bit googling I found the following thread on the OTN forum where it had been suggested (well I think maybe not exactly for the same problem) to turn off SERVEROUTPUT.
    Problem with dbms_xplan.display_cursor
    This was precisely what I did
    SET SERVEROUTPUT OFFafter that I repeated the whole procedure and this time everything worked pretty well as expected. I checked SQL*Plus documentation for SERVEROUTPUT
    and also v$session page, yet I didn't find anything indicating that SERVEROUTPUT should be switched off whenever views such as v$sql, v$session
    are queired. I don't really understand the link in terms of impact that one can have on the other or better to say rather, why there is an impact
    Could anyone kindly make some clarification?
    thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Dariyoosh

    Hi Dariyoosh,
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON has the effect of executing dbms_output.get_lines after each and every statement. Not only related to system view.
    Here below what Tom Kyte is explaining in this page:
    Now, sqlplus sees this functionality and says "hey, would not it be nice for me to dump this buffer to screen for the user?". So, they added the SQLPlus command "set serveroutput on" which does two things
    1) it tells SQLPLUS you would like it <b>to execute dbms_output.get_lines after each and every statement</b>. You would like it to do this network rounding after each call. You would like this extra overhead to take place (think of an install script with hundreds/thousands of statements to be executed -- perhaps, just perhaps you don't want this extra call after every call)
    2) SQLPLUS automatically calls the dbms_output API "enable" to turn on the buffering that happens in the package.Regards.

  • Follow-up question about forms and SharePoint Online

    I asked a question about life after InfoPath earlier, and got a good answer:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/fb23b3d9-8a09-4267-aab5-09929f6a3082/life-after-infopath-seeking-advice
    After looking at all of the limitations of SharePoint Online, I'm wondering how developers are dealing with the limitations. Lets say you are asked to develop something that has complex logic, including fetching data from external web services, dynamically
    displaying parts of a process to people depending on role, and ending up with a printable document. In our on-premises environment, InfoPath is well suited to this task, with some code behind for some things. Or, if not using InfoPath, we would use application
    pages and workflow.
    Neither of those are available in SharePoint Online, so what would you do?

    Some things, such as the conditional display of content, can be done via JavaScript. More advanced items, such as integrating external web services would likely require a SharePoint "app". A SharePoint app is essentially a link to a separate site
    that is running an asp.net web app (or PHP, or whatever). This asp.net site can do anything it needs with any web services, or conditional formatting, or anything. Because it's registered as a SharePoint app, it can also call back into the SharePoint site
    and work with data. So, a SharePoint App could present the user with a robust form that simply sends the data back to a SharePoint list. The SharePoint app can also be surfaced on the SharePoint site itself in an iframe, so the user won't know that the form
    is hosted by another server.
    By the way, the ideas behind the app model permeate the entire SharePoint environment: instead of having the SharePoint server itself run all kinds of custom business logic, that workload is handled by other servers, so the SharePoint servers can be focused
    on running the core bits of SharePoint. InfoPath puts a large load on the servers, so it's out.  XSLT list views also put a load on the server, so they're also out. SSRS is an amazingly fantastic tool, but is not supported in the cloud (and there's no
    alternative). Timer jobs, event handlers, workflow, and many other things have been re-architected to take the load off the SharePoint servers.

    Error in the ABAP Application Program
    The current ABAP program "/ORM/ORM_CREATE_TOP_NODES" had to be terminated

    come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.
    Do you know where it could come from?

    when I click in a link under the risk management menu(activities and risks, risk report, document risk,...) i alway have an internal server error:
    While processing the current request, an exception occured which could not be handled by the application or the framework.

    Do we have to set up some customizing points before accessing these links?

  • Questions about using a PDF form online

    I have a client who wants to create an online version of a PDF form that they are currently using. I am currently trying to explain to them that this would be best done as an HTML web form, but I may not win this argument. I have only used PDFs for printed forms (either hand-written or using form fields) so I am not familiar with any problems that converting the form for use online would entail.
    When the 'Submit' button is pressed on the form, is there a way to redirect to another web page after the data is submitted? (i.e. does the PDF have access to it's outer 'environment'?)
    Are there any security issues submitting data using the PDF form as opposed to using a standard web form? (There may be sensitive data being submitted)
    I'm not sure how they plan to handle the data that is submitted, but there are several options in the submitForm parameters - I am assuming that using the HTML option would submit the data in the same format as a web form would. Am I correct here?
    Can the PDF be prevented from being downloaded or printed? This form should only be used to submit data to their server, not as a printed form.
    Are there any other 'gotchas' that I need to look out for? Does anyone have a recommendation for a site which contains any tutorials or guidelines for using PDF forms online?

    Thanks for the information.
    Yes, I agree that there is less reason for it to be a PDF form (Actually, no real reason other than the original form already exists in PDF), but I am unfortunately in the position that my input in this project is not necessarily being considered (my company is following direct -and inconsistent- directions from the client, and I have no contact with the client to ask questions about what their actual needs are). I have been told to give the client the 'Tomato' that they are asking for, even though they are describing an 'Apple'.
    The reason this form is not meant to be printed is that we have replaced the 'Signature' fields from the original form with checkboxes that the user must check to confirm they have 'signed' the document. If they are to print/fax/whatever the document, they should use the original form, not this one. And I am still trying to explain to them that this would be better served with an HTML web form, but I fear I am losing that battle.
    I have brought up the fact that it is not 100% guaranteed that Acrobat will be available in the browser, although I can only guess that it is less than likely that anyone will not have some sort of PDF viewer available to their browser.
    I will also mention that issues may arise if the file is not submitted from within the browser.
