Question about signature in NYC apple-stores ...

hi,
does anybody know, if a iphone-buyer (foreigner) has to sign a paper, not to sell the iphone to others ?
or maybe if it's more than one ?
thanx.

I am personally not aware of any signing of any paper work when buying an iPhone from an Apple Store.
They sell you the iPhone, You pay the money, Your on your way. Unless this policy has changed since June 2007 I am not aware of it.
I know the only thing you might have to sign as is the case with most stores, If you use a Credit card you got to sign a copy of your receipt.
Hopefully our other posters here can fill you in more incase I am over looking something here.

I see lots of people asking questions about the "white screen" app store update failure. I see no answers from Apple about this...What is the problem, and what is the solution?

It's a problem that Apple is having with their App updating system.  The best solution is to be patient, and wait for Apple to solve their systemic problem.

  • Presales question regarding support options at Apple Store

Hello, I am considering switching from a PC to a MacBook (not sure if Pro or not). I qualify for the educational discount and current free iPod promotion, but only if I purchase the product from my university's computer store or online (we don't have an Apple Store here yet). Unfortunately, this computer store does not have that great of a reputation for service. My city will be getting a new Apple Store that will open in July. My question is twofold: If I purchase the computer from the university store will I be able to get service at the Apple Store if I need it? Is there any benefit in waiting one month for the new store to open and for me to purchase the computer from there? Thank you kindly.

    Absolutely.
Is there any benefit in waiting one month for the new store to open and for me to purchase the computer from there?
No real benefit I can think of. You'll qualify for the BackToSchool promotion either way. So unless you feel that your campus reseller isn't competent to properly advise you on models, configurations, accessories, etc., there's little reason for you to wait until the Apple Store opens.

  • Questions about iPod photo and Apple Protection Plan

I have an iPod photo and an APP that expires May 2007. My
iPod's battery has permanently run out and I plan to use my APP and send it to Apple. Here are my questions:
    1. What is the best way to contact them about sending my iPod to them?
    2. Does the APP cover battery replacement?
    3. Has Apple discontinued the making of iPod photos?
    4. If so, will they still replace my battery or will they just send me a completely new iPod?

    1) You can arrange online service here.
    Service request.
    2) Yes.
    3) Yes.
    4) They will send a replacement iPod photo. They have stock just for this purpose.

  • Question about how Mac OS X stores file information for iMovie and iPhoto

I'm relatively new to Macs (am using a 3yr old iMac and a new MBA running 10.6.4 and iLife 11) and I have this general question.
I'm using the iMac for a lot of Movie projects and photos. I've very quickly filled up my 500Gb hard drive and I don't understand why other than this:
I import a movie using iMovie and it's stored in an Events folder. I then make a project and it's stored in an Projects folder, I then share it to iTunes and it's stored in the iTunes Music/Movies folder. And I also see the movie in an iMovie Shared folder. In other words, it appears that a 2Gb movie (as an axample) becomes about 10Gb because it's saved in multiple places. Must I keep all of them?!
With iPhotos, I've imported about 6Gb of photos from my Windows PC. No problem. I copied across all the directories and then imported them into iPhoto. I then thought I could delete all the directories as the iPhoto folder became 24Gb in size! Not sure how but it seems that as well as keeping my original 6Gb of photo directories it's also put them into the iPhoto directory and somehow made it a big folder size?! If I delete the original folders (since they're now in the iPhoto app folder) then I can't actually browse the JPGs files can I except from within iPhoto only?
I've got about 80Gb of music, about 6Gb of photos and about 80Gb of movies. Somehow it's pretty much filled up 500Gb of hard drive (and very little other programs or files other than the normal iMac stuff it comes with) because of the way the Mac (iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto) seems to have the same thing copied everywhere.
All input greatfully receive and apologies if I'm being thick.
    Richard.

    Richard
I'll answer the iPhoto part for you.
If you use iPhoto in its default setting then the images are copied into the Library on import. Yes you can now delete the directories you have copied over.
then I can't actually browse the JPGs files can I except from within iPhoto only?
    Yes and no...
The point of iPhoto is that it's your Photo Manager. It's the "go-to" app when you want to do anything with your Photos. - View them, edit them, email them, print them, use them in other apps, upload them whatever - all of these things are done from iPhoto.
There are two advantages to working this way.
    1. You get to work with your Photos and don't have to think about files. This means the organisation possibilities are much greater than just files in folders. You can use Keywording, Smart Searching, Albums, Events and a plethora of other bases for categorising and therefore find your pics.
    2. iPhoto is integrated throughout the entire OS. That means your Library is available throughout the OS without iPhoto being open by means of Media Browsers. You can search your Library from a MEdia Browser and so on.
So, while, yes, the files are not browsable via the Finder, there's no need to. Everything you need to do can be done with iPhoto.
Want to edit the pics in something other than iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards
    TD

  • Question about exporting for iOS/App Store

I tried to follow all the instructions (http://developer.apple.com/ios/manage/distribution/index.action) properly but they were written for XCode and not Adobe. I have looked on Adobe's site but I can't find any information or documentation telling me what I'm doing wrong.
I am using Flash CS 5.5 and AIR 2.7.
In iTunes Connect under Provisioning -> Distribution I created a new Distribution Provisioning Profile. This I opened in AIR for iOS Settings -> Deployment -> Provisioning profile. Bundle IDs match.
In iTunes Connect under Certificates -> Distribution I created a new Distribution Certificate. This I installed using Keychain Access.
In Flash I continued using the same Developer Certificate (.p12 file) I had been using to test my app on my device.
I downloaded and used Keychain to install the WWDR intermediate certificate.
In Flash -> AIR for iOS Settings -> Deployment -> iOS deployment type I chose "Deployment - Apple App Store"
I compiled the app and tried to upload using Application Loader. It gave me the following error:
"Application failed codesign verification. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate."
All my certificates are current and valid, and have been installed without duplicates.
Any ideas? I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to do or where else to turn for answers.
    Thanks!

Is that the developer_identity.cer file created in iTunes Connect -> Provisioning -> Distribution?
I created one and installed it in Keychain by double clicking on it in Finder.
It shows up in Keychain -> Login under "iPhone Distribution: My  Name" and I can expand it to reveal a private key with my name  underneath it.
    Is that right?

  • Question about this week's App Store Sale

The App Store is having a three-week sale on productivity apps.  Week one is "Prioritize" apps, like to do list apps.  Week two is Organize, and week three is Utilize.
Fine but...does anyone know of the preceding weeks' sale prices stay up as the remaining weeks' deals are revealed?  Also, what if some of the apps in each of the three categories go together?  How does a user know in advance if there's a "suite" of apps they should get that work well in a three-app sequence better than other combos???
Anyone from Apple reading this?  Care to chime in?

Anyone from Apple reading this?  Care to chime in?
User to user forum only, Apple answers nothing here and all of your questions, if not covered in the promo copy you've seen, can only be answered directly by Apple.

  • Question about HD movies on Apple TV

When it says for a movie that's for sale through the iTunes Store "Also available in HD on Apple TV", does that mean you can buy the movie in HD through Apple TV or rent only? Through iTunes the movies that have this statement are only available for download in SD.
    Thanks.

Usually means you can rent it on AppleTV
Also may all depend on where you live - UK users cannot buy any HD films through iTunes or AppleTV as far as I'm aware, only some TV Shows.

  • Question about Lion on non apple mouse

I am thinking of downloading lion, however the videos make great emphasis on being able to flick through pages just like on a iPad, but I don't have a trackpad and I use a trust mac mouse as the one that came with it battery life was rubbish. How do you use the features with no track pad. Are other features worth getting it for?
    Carrie

Here is the warranty link from the mighty mouse page.
    http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/hardware.html
With the mighty mouse you should get a receipt that is your proof of purchase for when it was purchased. There is no registration because there is no serial number to register it with.
The MacBook has it's own one year warranty so you don't need to worry about the Mighty Mouse one year warranty covering it?
I suggest you keep the receipts in a safe place so if you need them you have them.

  • Question about minimizing. why ddid apple remove minimizing and replace it with NOTHING?

on tiger, i could double click in the "gray bar" on top of every window in order to minimize it. this was a very good idea, since the buttons to minimize, close or maximize are very small and i also tend to activate my upper left hot corner when moving my cursor to the buttons....
i think it's good to always change stuff. but if apple removes a function to replace it with nothing at all, i just don't get the point of removing it, since it was a good idea. i know: less is more! but i don't think it's meant this way

They didn't remove it. You just don't know where to turn it on. The "gray bar" is called the title bar.

  • Question about reinstalling osx and apple id activation

if i reinstall os x fresh on my laptop without first de-authorizing my apple id, will it use another authorization when i go to authorize again? i'm confused if it goes by hardware id or what and i can't seem to find an answer anywhere.

There aren't any "authorizations" as you are referring. There is no limit to the number of times you can reinstall the OS.
If you erase the drive or replace the drive, Internet Recovery will reinstall the originally shipped OS.
If you purchased Mountain Lion separately and installed over another OS, you'll need the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion.
