Question about "slow" "fast" "turbo" "ultra turbo"

Ok, on the 875P Neo board, what does "slow" "fast" "turbo" "ultra turbo" do to the settings in the bios? Ok "slow" is probably default (shouldnt they just call it "default"?)... but what will the rest SPECIFICALLY do to my system?

No one knows for sure, MAT is enabled in 1.6 on turbo and ultra turbo, it also seems to use more agressive memory timings - the sisoft sandra scores at turbo and ultra turbo are excellent.

  • SLOW, FAST, TURBO, ULTRA TURBO

    Hey Guys
Nice forum....Just have to get used to it. I find the searching isnt as good as the lats one but look gr8.
Anyways I have just got 1024MB Corsair PC3200 2-2-2-5 RAM. Its amazing made my PC so much faster and timings have made it so responsive.
Anyways I have a 875P motherboard like you can see below but in the BIOS I can select different options (Performance Options)
SLOW -> FAST -> TURBO -> ULTRA TURBO.
What exactly do these do? On my last generic RAM I had it on FAST and not have it on TURBO. Is it worth goin onto ULTRA TURBO? Also how kinda effect with these setting have on the life of the PC.
    Cheers guys
    SASpaz

Here is a review, there is also a lot there to take in but,
    http://www.gruntville.com/reviews/memory/corsair_twinx3200xl/page3.php
The settings you are referring to are associated with PAT.
There are different levels of PAT, if you choose slow, is it off in CPUZ?
    FAST
    TURBO
    ULTRA TURBO
CPUZ will report PAT to be enabled on all of these settings but it may not be fully enabled.
ULTRA TURBO = FULLY enabled PAT mode.
Run this program to tell you the level of PAT
    ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/ctiaw.zip
Extract it to a folder, run the lowercase version.
See what PAT level it is running at.
Then change modes and run the program again.
What it does, going back to the INTEL link,
The setting adjust the memory/chipset timings to achieve higher system performance.
It should not be a problem if you have good memory.
Now is this starting to make sense

  • Problem on fast, Turbo, Ultra Turbo. bios 1.5 still buggy.

Ok, I'm using my 875P neo(1.5 bios)  as a realtime video editing system,  I have realtime Video out both on  Analog and DV (Firewire)  with a Canopus card DV Storm 2.
First i thought my canopus card  is broken because I have Flickering and nothing than digital blocks out of the  DV Output which is really strange but more important i cannot use this. :(
I gladly found out that's not my Storm card but the Ultra turbo setting , i changed to fast, turbo, No Luck and a bit of system instability.
Everything will Only function properly when set  to Slow mode X(  voilá problem Ficksed! :]  but that's a ridiculous performance in slow mode compared to ultra turbo! (benchmark shows write performance less than a 2.4Cghz processor an another brand mobo)(I'm using 3.0Cghz) 8o
I think i'm not the only one with strange problems like this, damn  MSI you got some work here.
I hope MSI will Improve a lot with a new bios update if not i will choose an other brand mobo.

    Dragak,
There is no guarantee that Ultra-Turbo setting will run 100% stably on ALL SYSTEMs where as each system consists of different sets of hardware. But there are some cases and their system specs are superbly well to support Ultra-Turbo setting. If all system can run at Ultra-Turbo, then there will be no Slow,Fast and Turbo mode anymore!
Based on what factors make you think that your Canopus card can support those faster settings?? Why don't you try to take the card off your system and go with the Ultra-Turbo or Turbo mode.

  • Questions about slow motion recording on the iPhone 6 Plus

I took a couple of slo mo videos and they look cool, but there are a few things I don't understand.
The frame rate I took them at is 240 fps.
In an online article, I read the slow down speed is just 1/4th. But if the regular frame rate is 30 fps isn't the slow down 1/8th? I think that is true, because a video in the "recent" album says "8 seconds" but actually plays back at 64 seconds, which is 1/8th speed. And it's 64 seconds long after I upload it to YouTube.
One question is whether there is an easy way to see the actual playback time other than doing the math?
Another question is I understand there is supposed to be some way of editing the videos so you can adjust which parts are slowed down and which parts aren't. I can see how to trim, and I see the narrowly spaced bars (normal speed) and widely spaced bars (slow speed) but I don't see any way of adjusting those.
Any hints about this? Or other slo mo recording any editing hints?
    Thanks,
    doug

End result after talking with AppleCare.
    1. Yes, if you record at 240 fps it is 1/8th speed.
    2. There is no way in either Photos or iMovie on the iPhone to see the playback time! Just the time it took to record the video.
Doesn't it seem that people would want to know the playback time of a video?
    I have submitted feedback.
I figured out how to edit the spacing of the real-time vs slo-mo portions. So that's no problem. But there is no way of knowing what the playback time is other than editing it on your computer or uploading it to YouTube or some place like that and see the result. Or manually timing it I guess.

  • Flash newbie questions about slow loading site

Hi all. I am new to Flash and web-site building in general and I have been learning while doing. Its fun, but frustrating. I really need some help, hope someone out there with Flash experience can give me some advice.
My problem is this: I built a Flash website, but it is painfully slow to load up (3-5 minutes via cable modem) when I visit the site (via Firefox, etc). Once it does load up, everything is fine with navigation. I'm having a hard time figuring out why its taking so long to load up on the web because, basically, I don't know how to trouble shoot. Hope you guys can help!
Details: the site is just a portfolio site with pictures and a few motion-things, no complicated animations. The swf file is about 9MB. I do have a flash preloader, but it doesn't show up until after the 3-5 minute "load-up" time. When I do the testing via Flash, its Ok and doesn't show the lag. But once I upload the website files and try to visit my website, the load time problem occurs.
    My thoughts:
    - do I have to purge my Flash file/library of unused images before creating my swf file?
    - Is there a problem with my html code in my index file?
    - because it is a portfolio site, I've got about 90 images on it, each image about 300-400K.  Is this too big, or about right?
Please help! Sorry for the long email, just desperate for help. Thanks in advance for any advise!!!! Just in case, here is the html code:

Yeah I'm with Ned on this one. Dynamically loading your images is the way to go. The fact that you are new to Flash, try this tutorial (http://www.entheosweb.com/Flash/loading_external_images.asp). As you move along in learning Flash, look for tutorials on actionscript arrays and loading images dynamically. Arrays allow you to call each images from a folder outside your fla. That way your site moves right along without much loading time.
    Hope I was of help,

  • [Solved] A note and question about slow hostname lookups

I reinstalled Arch recently and the first thing I noticed was slow resolve times on hostname lookups.  This didn't happen on all webpages but did on about 50% of them.  This also happened on downloads from pacman %100 percent of the time.  I have done a good bit of research and most of the points led to nssswich.  One website said to try using this in nsswitch.conf:
    hosts: files[NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue] dns [NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue TRYAGAIN=return] nis
With this it appears (after about 20 minutes of testing) that firefox lookups are again behaving normal again.  However, pacman is still having slow lookups (about 30 seconds for each package).  Does anyone know what could be the problem here.  I dont' know much about nsswitch or how it could be the problem.  Is there a way to help return pacman to regular lookup times?

  • Simple questions about the Live! Ultra for Notebooks webcam

    Hi there,
I don't have a notebook, but I have an LCD display and I'm thinking of getting a webcam. Does anyone know if the Live! Ultra for Notebooks can be clipped on something as thick as 3cm?
Also, does it have an in-built microphone, or is that all in the headset?
    Thanks in advance.
    Charlie

    Charlie,
The clip of the webcam can be stretch to approximately about .5cm only. Also, the microphone is not inbuilt into the webcam. It's on another seperate headset.

  • Question about Slow Motion and Running Times

I am using iMovie '08 to help my boss make a video of the pump and suction cup assembly he has created. He asked me if I knew how to slow it down to a frame by frame type of shot. He also asked if there is any way to have a running time on the video both in real time and the slow motion shot. Can anyone help me?
At work I am using a Mac Pro with 4 G of RAM and 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel processor.

iMovie 08 was primarily designed for SIMPLE editing.
iMovie 06 is a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)
Much has been written about the differences between iMovie 06 and iMovie 08. I have found the below link to be helpful.

  • Question about slow rs232 equipment

I tried the examples for rs232 communication, it works fine.
but my equipment is slow and needs delay between each character.
i didnt find any input to Visa write or other control which enables me
    to do this.
can someone tell me how to do this?
again: to make a delay (inter digit pause) between each character send.
    thanks in advance

A PIC for instance does not have a FIFO for its standard serial port module. You get a byte in a register and if you are not fast enough before the next byte is ready things might go wrong. Of course writing the PIC formware in such a way that it can always deal with the maximum input rate (for instance 9600 baud => ~1ms per byte) is the real art here.
Also you can consider handshaking too, although the PIC module does not have this automatically.

  • Question about Slow POST with Creative Fatal1ty Champion on P45T-C51 Board

I have recently installed the above-mentioned sound card on the P45T-C51 MB. I noticed a drastic change in boot up speed as if the MB is searching for something on POST. I am using Win 7 Ultimate 64. The system used to display all my hard drives and USB sources withing seconds of powering up. Now it takes almost a minute before the MB even gets to starting the OS. I have noticed that the new sound card is sharing IRQ 18 with many other devices. Is this the source of my problem? I am posting in this forum as I believe this is a MB issue. There is a more recent BIOS available in July 2010. I am currently using the January update to the 7519. Does this update address these issues? Any help offered would be greatly appreciated!
I am going to post this. Will bring my profile up to speed and repost with system specs.

PAX drivers are the only thing that will make my Creative card run under Win7 Ultimate 64. I tried everything to use the Creative drivers with no luck.
Eureka moment!!! Noticed that a hard drive I wanted some data off of tonight was not responding. It's an 11 year old WD 200GB drive, one of the first big drives. It has finally failed!! Reached in and sure enough the drive was smokin hot. Unplugged the power supply to it. Tried to plug it back in (HOT) and my power supply over-current tripped and shut down the computer. Never seen that happen before! With the hard drive disconnected POST is right quick now and the problem seems to be solved. This POST problem has been happening since mid-December, same time I put the sound card in...this means that drive has been failing since then but today it finally gave up. Good job I decided to vacuum a lot of data off of it just this weekend, I actually had it pretty busy. Guess that was the straw that broke the camels back. It was my last IDE drive. Guess I am going to have to go out and get another huge new SATA drive to take it's place...AWWW...Darn!!
Thanks for the help. We were not going to find that easily without a complete failure of the drive...which finally happened. Any other problems in the future I will be definitely be coming back to this forum to find knowledgeable answers!

  • Neo Bios 1.6 and Slow/Fast/Turbo/Ultra Modes

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Slow/Fast/Turbo/Ultra modes in Bios 1.6 on the Neo boards?
The only mode I can get to work is the Slow mode.  On all the rest, Win XP boots OK, but when I would run programs, the screen would lock for a few seconds, then come back in low resolution stating I had an unspecified "device failure", and I had to restart my computer for it to work properly.
In any case, I have no clue what the difference is between modes.  I was able to complete a 3dMark test while in Turbo mode, and compared it with one run in Slow mode, and the differences were minimal.
    Can anyone enlighten me?

  • Fast ? Turbo? Ultra turbo?

    Hi folks,
In the bios section, I found option of slow, fast, turbo and u-turbo. but  when I check ram timing by using CPU-Z or something like that, there is no difference between slow, fast, turbo.
Btw, the bandwidth increased by set to slow -> fast -> turbo. I found this result from the Sandra.
Same ram timing but different bandwidth.. what does this mean?

That's the entire point of having those settings, to increase bandwith. Bandwith is the amount of data that the memory on your mobo can recieve within a certain period of time. That's why the label is usually MB/s (Megabits per second).
And these settings: Fast, Turbo, and Ultra Turbo actually tighten the timings although CPU-Z does not recognize it.
But basically, the bigger the bandwith the better.
Also remember, that can be catagorized as overclocking. So make sure you know you can stress your parts.

  • MSI Fast - Turbo - Ultra RAM settings on KT6V

    hi, I have a KT6V mobo with 1 bank Twinmos 512MB ram.
I am trying to have the best RAM performance changing bios setting.
    I have a strange result:
Ultra mode + cas 2,5 give me best results than Turbo mode + cas 2. ( Ultra mode + cas 2 crash )
What MSI Ultra mode does to give bigger results of cas 2 ? Does it increment the RAM BUS ?
What are the best suggestions ?
    Thanks

Update Description Removed the "MEMORY TIMING" setting from the BIOS. System will have no display when user change the "MEMORY TIMING" option in the BIOS, from NORMAL to FAST or ULTRA. The selection in the BIOS is for over-clocking only. But some memories can't be over-clocked and caused the compatibility issue.
** We strongly recommend all end users to update the BIOS to the version 1.3. **
That was taken from the BIOS page for the KT6V, so apparently those settings were causing problems for many users.

  • Enabling Ultra-Turbo fails, resets to slow

    MS6728 mobo, rev 1.9
    Intel P4 3.0 FSB800
    1 gig dual channel DDR
    S-ATA Seagate Primary Master
    P-ATA Seagate Primary Slave
Zalman ALCU cooler with bracket fan
With the P4 2.0 I had in my mobo until this morning I could enable Ultra-Turbo without difficulty, admittedly under rev 1.3. Now I have 1.9 and my new CPU if I attempt to enable Ultra-Turbo, I save and exit, my PC reboots and the BIOS then defaults to slow. No problem setting Turbo (it's running now), but I can't use Ultra.
Can anyone point me in the direction of which settings may need revising?

Not changed the voltages at all, so the default setting after the BIOS update is still in effect.
edit - just checked, 2.5v (text in yellow) for the DDR, speed is auto-determined.

  • Who can run in ultra turbo with low cas ramm. read pls..ill explain

This doent pertain to overclocker casue if you go over 219 fsb on 800 fsb pcu it disables mat..
Who here with an 865, 875 mobo can run 2 or 2.5 cas timings in ultra turbo with less then 215 FSB.
If so which brand ramm and what bios and board do you have .
I am about to order ramm thats iss 3-3-3-8 but i would rather get the corsair xmas which is 2-3-3-6 if id be able to run it in ultra turbo..
what do you think and all responses definately appreciated.....

I think the 875 p has some hidden number which it calculates as being dafe or not, if your memory regardless of what timings you set it at reads lower then it thinks safe you will crash at boot.
Thats why i am making all this hype about memory . I cant afford to rMa belive you me i want that corsair twinx1024-3200cpt thats listed in the ramm module spec. Only thing is how to tell if its version 1.1 like they ask . I dont think version 1.1 is abtainable. this is referring to the ramm list for the neo 875 fisr pcb 2.0 . Also it lists ocz but which one do i get..
From what you are telling me, is anyone will work and to get2-2-2-5 if i can , but i think there might be a catch to this when the boards reads it. Im unsure. If so how to fake out the bios and let your manuel timings stick.
On my last boord after the flash , even when i flashed back i after loading default and running onece i restarted and set them to 3-4-4-8 and if i even went from slow to fast i could not boot. This only hapened in dual mode. In single i could hit ultra turbo....
remarks lol... If you know a way around this...   also if you can tell me about that corsir ramm listed in the fisr's list.  i can buy it but how do i know its v1.1 lol...
no, MAT can be still enabled with SPD disabled. for example i have the performance mode enabled, but i set my RAM timings manually. but i said that before, you must have missed it...
i didnt understand what you were trying to say here, your english is pretty weird. 2-2-2-5 timings can be done only with the new Corsair XL memory, and only under 215MHz. this kinda "is" the ultra turbo mode i guess, because you cant tighten the timings anymore.
and as that other guy said, 2-3-2-6 rated memory is always a safe bet as far as compatibility is concerned, from Kingston, Corsair or whoever. the new BIOS version dont have any problems with that from my experience.
as i said, i dont understand your other questions, but i hope your memory issue is solved.
    Quote
I'm not going to bother reading what everyone else posted, I have that 2-3-2-6 rated memory from corsair, and I run ultra-turbo. N/P
with SPD enabled or disabled? im just asking because i cant set MAT to ultra turbo with SPD setting the memory timings. Turbo is the best i can do here.
