Question about smc fancontrol after installing Leopard... please help

hi,, i recently had my macbook pro a clean install leopard,.. everything is going fine afterwards until i installed smc fancontrol, smc fancontrol is working fine, but my problem is, i forgot to set the default fan speed on the smc fancontrol which is 2000rpm before i did the clean install, the fan speed was 2500rpm when i clean installed leopard, forgetting to set the default 2000 rpm back,. and now after i installed leopard, and then i installed back the smc fancontrol, the default now is 2500rpm! i cannot set it back to the default, which is 2000rpm, when i tried smc fancontrol keeps telling me that it FELL SHORT OF MINIMUM, which it thinks the default rpm is 2500, how can i get it back to the real default rpm of macbook pro which is 2000rpm? i'm afraid that constantly running my macbook pro forever to 2500rpm will cause the wear and tear of my macbook pro's fans , please help me, i really don't know what i'll do here....

hi, thanks, btw, what would i look for in the activity monitor after i closed the smc fancontrol?
Check all your processes under the CPU tab. They should all be very low at idle--like right after you boot. If you have some process running like 30% for example, that could cause the fans to run faster.
should i check in the activity monitor if the smcfancontrol still runs after i closed it? i
It shouldn't show up in their after you close it.

  • Replacing the HDD and installing leopard (PLEASE HELP)!!!

    hi there,
i currently have a macbook that has just gone out of warranty. i bought a new HDD from WD, installed tiger (using the original discs that come with the mac) and then installed leopard. it seemed to be working fine (apart from a few keyboard buttons playing up), until less than 2 weeks of doing this, the hard drive crashed out on me. i was absolutely gutted! mainly due to the fact a lot of the files i copied over and new ones had gone. i put in the original HDD (which i left as it was) and it worked as normal. i have now received a new HDD from WD and am about to install it along with 2 x 1GB RAM sticks.
i have no problems installing the HDD again or the RAM. the only concerns are, when selecting the new HDD when previously installing it, i lost out on about 30GB of memory (10GB after formatting, 15GB after installing tiger & 5GB after installing leopard). that's about a quarter of my HDD gone. i would have installed leopard clean but i wanted ilife '06 that came with tiger.
is there a way to install leopard clean and then install just ilife '06 by itself from the installation discs, so i can save some space on the new HDD?
if anyone can help i would be so grateful, thanks, ravi.

Install Leopard by itself. Do not install Tiger. When you do your Leopard install watch the lower left corner of the install screen and when you see custom click it. That way you can choose not to include all the printer drivers and language files. That will knock off a few gig.
Once Leopard is running insert your 1st install disk. Once it opens choose the install bundled software choice. Once it is open you can do a custom install and put just what you want back on your MacBook. That way you don't get all the extras.

  • Fatal error message after installing Leapard-please help!!!

I did an erase and install of Leopard last night. Everything was fine at first. I copied several files that had been archived before installing Leopard. I let it go overnight. This morning I get the message saying I have to reboot. I do. Then I get the same message. I reboot again. Before the message pops up again I run disk permissions and I get this message: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    What do I do?

  • Question about rendering, it's too slow :( please help.

i've been trying to find videos explaining how to make rendering faster. Example i make a video that's 10 seconds short just to see how the result is in windows media player, it takes like 10 minutes for it to render.
I've heard about the ''secret'' menu and i tried it too. However, it's the same result again. Does anybody know how to make previewing and rendering faster.
Even when i try and preview my work, it takes ages for it to load then be able to preview it normally.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

And for the ''my car doesn't turn up'' statement, how can i know what to specify if this is my first time i ask a question about AE and don't know what to include in my question.
Hey iverecords, here is a tip to help us help you by providing the most infos as you can in your question. Because there is never one definitive answer to a question, and because there are millions of hardware/software combinaison, we can't guess what you have, and how you're trying to achieve it.
So let's take an exemple with your rendering problem.
Let see what can affect your rendering speed:
    1) your hardware (inculding OS and network if working on network drive)
Sure, the new fancy processors are faster than yesturday ones. Obviously, running on Windows95 or Windows 7 (same applies for Mac OSX Tiger to OSX Snow Leopard) can make a difference. Same as writing files over a network, or on a usb external drive.
    2) what you are rendering (your composition)
Applying dozens of effects on a few layers don't render at the same speed than a hundred of layers without effects.
    3) your AE version and settings.
Every AE release brings new enhancement / speed, so depending on your version there might be that little hepfull setting.
So as a starter, for us to help you, we need to know these 3 key elements.
We all have started one day asking questions to get help online, so we all already made that mistake of not giving enough info. So now you know you should always give us that much of info, and then we'll be able to narrow down the problems and help you find the way to the answer.
    Cheers,
    Seb

  • HELP???Question about the technique RM COPY. Please Help

    PLEASE HELP
Im wondering if anyone can help me. I recently got a reply to a post that I wrote about deleting duplicated files. Mainly MP3s. I have not done this method yet though. Does it work? I have around 9000 mp3s that Itunes seems to always duplicate and I need to get rid of them. Can I open one of my ex-Harddrives that pretty much hold mp3s and run this command? Im looking for a completely faster method than individually deleting them in Itunes. One last question too. Where do I type this command? How do I access the directorys where my mp3s are in my ex-HD? If anyone can help me Id greatly appreciate it. The reply is below my name
    Jamie
    posternut:
If none of the original filenames contains the lettering " copy", you can do what you want quite easily.
Open Terminal, navigate to the folder that contains the files, and enter the following command (exactly as it appears here):
    rm *" copy"*
That's all there is to it. All 9000 duplicate files will be removed very quickly.
If you need help "navigating to the folder" or if some of your original filenames contain the lettering “ copy”, then post back here.
    Greg

    Launch Terminal.app
Type cd followed by a space. Do not hit return key just yet.
In Finder, navigate to folder containing the files you want to blow away.
Drag and drop that folder (in the finder) into the Terminal.app window. It'll autofill the path to the directory containing the files you're wanting to blow away. Now hit the return key.
You could type ls (that's a lower-case ell) and see the directory listing of all the files in your current directory. Probably a good idea to do just to doublecheck that you really are in the directory that you want to blow away all these files from.
    Now do what Greg said.
Don't get impatient because Terminal is just sitting there and you're not getting an immediate command prompt. It'll take a while to blow away 9000 files.
For entertainment, instead of rm *" copy"* use rm -v *" copy"* so you can watch all 9000 file names be printed in your terminal window as they are being deleted.
Will it work? Oh yes .... irreversibly (if it doesn't, that's coz' there are some file ownership and/or file permission issues that need to be looked at, but assuming those are "compatible" with your current Terminal user environment, those guys'll be toast. Any file that's in the working directory where you are in Terminal that has the five characters " copy" in its filename will be history.
The assumption in Greg's command is that all the files you want to blow away all reside in the one directory that you have navigated to.

  • Question about Windows 7 on MBP! Please help! :(

Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to check out my problem. Basically, I'm getting a MBP soonish (yes, I'll be waiting for the coming update). I'm a student (17 years old), and have used Windows my entire life - so on my MBP I definitely won't be using the Mac OS, I just can't be bothered adapting myself to an entire new OS. Anyway, here are my questions:
    1) If I solely use Windows 7, is it still possible to alter some of the physical options of the MBP? (e.g. the trackpad, touch sensetive or pressing to click, two finger click = right click or not, and so on).
    2) Will the trackpad gestures still work, even though I will be using Windows 7?
    3) I am aware that Apple products sometimes get Firmware updates. Will a popup still appear if I am using Windows 7? If not, where can I see/obtain the Firmware update?
    4) I'm not very tech savvy about Mac OS, but, when I get my MBP and the IT guy installs Windows 7, will the Mac OS still be 'on' the laptop? Or will it ONLY be Windows 7? Should I bother about having the Mac OS on it, even though I will never use it?
Thanks so much for your help everyone! I really really appreciate it.
    Regards,
    Brad.

What you're essentially looking to do is replace the engine of a Ferrari with a diesel lawn tractor engine (nothing against diesels, the new ones are excellent). Windows is slow and clunky and always gets in your way with constant interruptions and maintenance that always has to be done. I'm a student too (20 yrs old) and there is absolutely only one reason to run Windows and that is for games. Everything else can be accomplished much more easily under Mac OS X.
So the obvious question that I have is... why would you want to run Windows when you pay a small premium for the Mac hardware? You've already said you don't want to be bothered to adapt yourself to anything new and you think that you're not "tech savvy" enough to switch. In reality, you are the perfect person to switch from Windows to OS X. My girlfriend was just like you. Didn't initially have any interest in changing platforms, and wasn't that tech savvy (but wasn't a luddite either, for sure). I convinced her to get a Mac largely with the premise that Windows could be installed if she didn't like OS X. And she loved the hardware. So she got the Macbook, first night, and played around with it a bit. I came over the next day to install Windows and she told me she had no need for it and didn't want it at all. She has never used Windows at all since then. It took her one night to "adapt" herself to OS X and she said herself that she's more productive and happier using a computer since switching. And I know dozens more people exactly like this. Not only will you be the cool kid running OS X instead of clunky old Windows, you'll be more productive and happier too. How can you lose?
Anyway, if you have a specific app to run in Windows you can use Boot Camp. Boot Camp installs Windoze directly onto a separate partition on the hard drive. You can then use the Alt (Option) key to toggle between 'Doze and OS X at startup. Windows will run at full native speed, and will use the dedicated graphics chip in the MBP (if you get a 15/17" model that has one). Windows will use more power and generate more heat than OS X. As a result, battery life on Windows is considerably less than OS X (talking 3-4 hours compared to 5-6, probably).
If you do decide to go ahead with Windoze only (for some insane reason) then you will need to keep OS X around if you ever want firmware updates. Windows will never remind you of them, so you'll want to keep an eye on Software Update in OS X every month or so. The trackpad gestures will not work in Windows because Windows doesn't have trackpad gestures like OS X does. OS X is somewhere in the range of 6-8GB in size now, I think.
I say you should +at least+ give OS X a chance. Use it for a couple days. Ask questions if you have any. If you hate it after that, then go ahead and use Windows. But at least you'll know you tried something different. Learning new things (that are better than existing ways) is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. There is absolutely no reason not to be constantly learning and growing. To willingly shut yourself off from that is a shame, IMHO.

  • Questions about Lulu ISBN, Tax forms, distribution, Please help

    Hello,
I've wrote some poetry books and I recently added a new one.
I hope I can ask the right questions and get the most up-to-date and correct answers.
Well, I got the Free ISBN numbers from Lulu for all my books. I went for the global distribution.
I went to update one of them tonight, before I buy proof copies of them all, and go through to 'accept' the distribution.
I was going to purchase them some time this week.
But when I went to update one of them, it said my title and author's name was 'locked'.
I am worried about the whole tax forms thing, because honestly I don't know how that works, and I just wanted to write books, buy copies for my friends and family, and hopefully, if it is possible, get my books into some bookstores online or something. I don't know, just as long as people read them, I don't care so much about making money because poetry for me is great therapy and an emotional outlet.
    So I guess I'm wondering:
Do I have to fill out tax forms in order to continue with the Free Lulu ISBN number and global distribution?
I don't have a lot of money to spend on distribution and I just really CANNOT do the thing with the taxes. And I don't really understand it.
I'm ashamed to have to ask these questions. I did read the terms of service and all, but I didn't know if it would really affect me or apply to me in a way where I HAD to pay anything for my books to be distributed.
I know I should have asked this before hand, that's why I'm embarassed now. Please bear with me, I'm really new to understanding this kind of stuff.
I live in the USA by the way.
Also, if I DO have to fill out tax forms in order to get the free isbn from lulu and global distribution, is there any other way I can still have my books available for people to buy without me having to fill out tax forms and all?
And would 'any other way' mean me having to start my books over again here on lulu (like, retire them and start new projects)?
Any information will help me greatly. I apologize for my ignorance of the subjects.
Thank you in advance, I greatly appreciate it.

    Hi!
    Thanks for replying.
My books don't sell much at all, and I don't mind. I just thought that having an ISBN would make it more available to people, along with having the global distribution. I'd like to try to give a copy to my library and another bookstore here in town, the lady that owns it has taken my brother's books before that he wrote, as well. I wasn't sure if either of them required an ISBN or not. I'll try to go talk to them sometime so I will know. My brother used Lulu for one of his books, but used ... I think it was called 'damnation publishing' or something (it was a horror novel, please excuse the name).
I understand and thank you for explaining what you did. But I have a tiny issue I might need to talk to someone in private about. I didn't really want to say it publicly.
I'm really just writing books for fun, it's a great way to get out frustrations creatively. And I've been writing poetry for years now. I just like to have a copy of my book to say to myself "I did this, I can do something with my life".
Well I'll tell just a little of my issue here... I live with my mom, I'm in my 30's and she advised me not to do the global distribution after I told her about what I read concerning taxes and all. She wants me to ... I think ... drop the ISBN and global distribution due to any taxes that will ever come with it. My aunt is into taxes for a living, and maybe she can explain it more to me.
I, too, think it will be okay since I don't sell many books (I've been publishing here on lulu since 2012 after my dad died and I still haven't sold one book... I do buy them, however, and pass them out to friends and family). But my mom sorta got scared about this when I told her about taxes.
Well, I'll just say it. I'm disabled, and I don't do taxes that I know of. My mom pays them but I don't think I do. (I've got some illnesses, I'm embarassed to say).
So that's why I was not sure about how the whole taxes thing would affect me.
I'm embarassed because I know a lot of people would look down on me because of my illnesses and maybe ask 'why are you on the internet if you're sick?' ya know. I'm very ashamed of my situation, but making books on lulu gives me something to look forward to in life. It's something I'm able to sit and do. (And I know I shouldn't worry what others think about me.)
Anyway, I apologize for giving a life background story. I just wasn't sure how or if all this would affect me at all.
I highly doubt my books will sell millions. I'm just happy to be here, and getting to do something.
Well anyway, I do greatly appreciate your answer to my questions. I really do. I'll check back in a little while to see if anyone else knows anything about these subjects.
I thank you again for your knowledge. :-)
OH, also, would it be easier for me to just set the prices of my books so I don't get any revenue? I know this may sound strange, but I just love writing. I don't mind not getting paid as long as people will read my books.

  • Question about reinstalling v4.9 can anyone please help!?!?!

Ok, I've been having major burning problems since I downloaded v5.0 and now with v5.01 and its really annoying me. My question is this, I have version 4.9 on my old comp and it works fine. Is it possible to burn v4.9 to a disc then bring it to my new comp and download it, basically writing over 5.01, or do I have to unistall v5.01 in order to install 4.9 again?

I talked to an Apple Administrator at a local university who said 5.0 and 5.1 were garbage. He emailed me 4.9. Before I received the 4.9 I deleted 5.1 and re installed 4.0 which came with my Ipod. It worked but the problem was though, my library would not show up. If you are running windows, there is probably a directory "Itunes" in you My Music folder. Make a copy of the library files for archival use. Don't lose them because you may have to reload your music. The library is the clearing house for all your music files which are in another directory. Make sure you don't lose it either. My advice is to uninstall 5.1 and reinstall 4.9 making sure that you have backed up your library. When 4.9 reinstalled, it found the correct itunes library and I'm back in business.

  • Question about Mail app and domain name please help

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?
    Thanks

You would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem!

  • A few questions about ACR / windows. Newbie here, please help  :)

    1. How do I "un-do" any edits that I have done in a.c.r.? I made some white balance changes and synched a group of photos but then realized it didnt work for all of them. For the life of me I cant find any way to get rid of the adjustment that is now attached to those images?
    2. Also when I have made some adjustments that I like, I thought that they were suppose to show up on my images? I see the save button on the bottom left of acr but when I do that it actually saves a copy. I dont want it to save a copy, I just wanted my adjustments to be attached to the original (in the sidecar as Ive heard some of you say).
Any suggestions as to what I need to do. Thank you K

If you right click on your raw files in Bridge, one of the options will be to "Clear Camera Raw Settings". If you highlight more than one image, you can clear the settings on all of the images at once. Another option is to hold down the Alt key while you are in Camera Raw, and one of the buttons will change to "Reset".
When you have finished working on a raw image in Camera Raw just click on the Done button. That will return you to where you were previously, and the changes you have made should be visible.

  • Problems connecting to internet after installing Leopard

I have been having problems connecting to the internet after installing Leopard. I have a G5 at my office and use safari and AOL, using a cable modem and router. Everything worked perfect until I installed Leopard. About 3 days after installing Leopard on my G5 I started having problems connecting to the internet. When opening "network" in preferences it tells me I am connected, but I cannot connect. So I have to restart my computer every time in order to connect. Then to top it off, often in the middle of the day I am able to get and send e-mail with AOL, but my Safari does not connect. And even more bizare, if I am connected and sign off my AOL, I lose Safari as well. Brought the G5 into the Mac store and after trying some stuff they told me "it should work now" but ....same problems. So last Monday, I installed Leopard on my Macbookpro which I use at home wirelessly, everything worked well until yesterday when the same issue with my G5 is happening with the macbookpro. No connection, it tells me I am connected, signal is strong, but nothing.....so restart and keep going. What is going on? Anyone else having same problem? Any solutions
    Roberto

    Roberto,
Is the install of Leopard on the G5 and MacBook Pro an upgrade install or a clean install?
Try some simple maintenance to see if this resolves it:
    1. Run Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility)
    2. Go to Network Utility and go to Ping enter in www.cnn.com and see if the packets are received/sent. This is just to see if you can get to the outside so to speak
    3. See if your cable modem manfacturer has a leopard upgrade. Sometimes hardware companies need to upgrade their firmware when new Operating systems come out

  • Why Mac Help doesn't work after installing Leopard?

After installing Leopard Mac Help shows a untitled window and after few seconds it disappear.

Actually no. I'm working on the same environment before installing Leopard. No firewall...but I'm working from China where a massive Great Firewall is controlled by the government. That case I shouldn't be the only one.

  • After installing Leopard, my G4 will no longer boot in OS 9.22. (Classic still works, but I need it to boot in OS 9.)  Any clues about what the Leopard installer might have done to my machine that rendered OS 9 boot unusable? What can I do to fix it?

After installing Leopard, my G4 will no longer boot in OS 9.22.
(Classic still works, but I need it to boot in OS 9.)
Any clues about what the Leopard installer might have done to my machine that rendered OS 9 boot unusable? (And what can I do to fix it?)
    Details:
    G4 Gigabit Ethernet
    Boot ROM version: 4.2.8fl
    Accelerator card added: 1.6 MHz
    1.5 Gig Ram
I have erased the partition that had Leopard installed on it.
    I zapped the pram.
In Open Firmware, I "reset-nvram", and then "reset-all"
I tried to reinstall G4 FW Update 4.2.8, but that must be done when booted from OS 9, and of course, that's the problem: it won't boot into 9.
I tried restarting from 9.2.1 DVD.
I tried restarting from an external firewire drive containing OS 9.2.2.
I tried moving a fresh OS 9.2.2 system folder into an empty partition on an internal hard drive. (Partition was created WITH OS 9 drivers installed.)
All attempts to boot into OS 9 give me the same results - grey screen - no spinning beach ball, no icons or logos - just a blank grey screen.
This machine still works fine in OS 10.3 and 10.4, and it worked fine for many years booting into OS 9, until I installed Leopard, and I haven't been able to boot into OS 9 since then, although I have done considerable research online and tried many things.
I have since learned that this machine does not support Leopard - 10.5. Fine, but how did it break 9.2.2?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for checking in, BDAQua.
    Problem solved.
In the docs that came with my Powerlogix accelerator card, I found this sentence buried:
"If you reset the PRAM, the NVRAM code for OS9 compatibility is cleared, so you will have to boot from the Firmawre Update CD and perform this process again in order to boot in OS9."
The "process" it's referring to is the process of setting up the NVRAM for booting into OS9 from the CD.
Fortunately, I was able to find the disk, and it worked as expected. I can now, once again boot into OS9.
Conclusion: My (unadvised) attempt to load Leopard on this old machine apparently reset the PRAM on the accelerator card and cleared the NVRAM code for OS9 boot. Although I did attempt to reset the NVRAM via Open Firmware, it did not reset it on the accelerator card.
So, thank you BDAQua, for your "Ah yes" . . . that's all I needed to steer me in the right direction.
    Gratefully,
    tupester

  • Can't get past setup assistant after installing leopard...

i am having trouble getting past the setup assistant after installing leopard on my other computer which is a 1.25 ghz G4 desktop. Everything seems to be going fine then the setup assistant comes up and i go through the exercise of filling it out and at the end it says click on done and then you can use the computer. unfortunately it goes right back into the setup assistant like i had never gone there before. it is in some kind of loop. would it be wise to reinstall leopard? if so, does it know that it was installed already and rewrite over the first install? or is there something else i may try. i tried resetting the PRAM and some other things recommended but nothing seems to work. any help will be appreciated.
    thanks in advance...

    mr_magicman,
I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you. It sounds like you went for the (default) Upgrade option.
    Okay, how about trying this:
    1. With the *OS X 10.5 Install Disk 1* still in the bay, Restart your computer. Without access to menus, you'll have to use the power switch to turn it off. +[Alternatively, if you do have access to menus, select the Restart command (in the Apple menu) — always the preferred method.]+
    2. If you're using the power switch method, here, wait about 10 - 15 seconds then depress the power switch again for about 5 full seconds (or until you hear the computer come back to life). +[Alternatively, if you had selected the Restart command in Step 1, the computer will start up again on its own.]+ *Either way, as the computer starts up, press and keep pressing, the Mouse until the disk ejects.* By the way, if you're using a Mighty Mouse with a left and right option, press down on the left side only. Hopefully this will get you out of the loop caused by your Install DVD remaining in the drive.
Finally, to be fair to you, I must tell you that there's a more suitable Forum for your particular kind of problem, viz., *Installation and Setup* (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219) I recommend you check out the questions/answers in that Forum in case your question has already been asked and answered.
PS. If you do re-post your question in that Forum, don't forget to mention whether or not you internal hard disk has been backed up.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Only showing wallpaper after installing Leopard

After installing leopard, I log in and I see my hard drive and applications for about 5 seconds and then everything disappears. I hooked it up to another Mac with firewire and checked to see if ApplicationEnhancer.bundle was there and it isn't. The other login on my computer works. Please help!

So, you're implying that the other account is not an admin account, but not saying. Then, I'm unsure if this will work. Anyway, log into the good, nonadmin account, select System Preferences->Accounts->click on the lock, enter the admin username/password combo if an authentication window pops up. If that works, then create a new admin user account with a unique username/password combo, click on the lock, and log out and into the new account. If that works, report back.
