Question about taking music from mac to pc and pc to mac

I have a mac book and ipod nano that are only about 4 months old. Well the disk drive on my mac isn't working and I want to add some music to my ipod from a CD. I just downloaded itunes to my dad's PC(windows vista) so that I could upload the music. My cousin told me that she did this once nad t completely whiped all of her music off of her ipod when it synced. Will this really happen?
If I can't use the other computer is there a way I can use a flashdrive to add the music?

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed. XPlay is currently only compatible with Windows XP, 2000, Me or 98SE, a new version for Vista is planned for release later this year. Alternatively since Macs can read Windows formatting the other way to use an iPod on both platforms would be to restore the iPod in iTunes for Windows which of course would erase any content from it, not a viable alternative in your case I'm afraid: How to determine your iPod's disk format
As for using an iPod on multiple computers, to do this you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod
iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Question about migrating data from mac pro to new macbook

    Hello all,
I ordered a new macbook today and i'm very excited. It will be the first time i've had two apple machines simultaneously. My question is in regards to getting my new macbook all stocked up with the files and apps currently residing on my mac pro.
    1. I don't know if by using migration assistant if the data is removed from the old machine and added to the new. I don't want that. I want everything currently on my mac pro to remain, unchanged.
    2. I'd normally use target disk mode, but no firewire on the macbook, so, no dice there.
    3. My startup disk and apps and such reside on one HDD in my mac pro, while my home folder, or user files, or whatever, reside on a separate HDD. will this cause a problem.
    Your input is much appreciated.

It can be done with USB, but it is slower and less reliable.
Ethernet works great, IF you have two FUNCTIONAL machines. The great thing about Firewire Target Disk mode was that if the HD/OS was corrupted, or the computer was for some reason unbootable you could still get data off of it quickly, without tools or special equipment. Firewire Target disk mode has saved my rear several times on every machine I have owned.
The hard drive is fairly easy to remove on the aluminum Macbook. I would remove it and install it in an external Firewire enclosure temporarily to transfer your files quickly and reliably, then put the drive back in the Macbook.
Firewire allows two operating modes. One is asynchronous, like USB which suffers from latency, bus contention and collisions.
The other is isochronous mode, and it lets a device carve out a certain dedicated amount of bandwidth that other devices can't touch. It gets a certain number of time slices each second all its own. The advantages for audio/video should be obvious: that stream of data can just keep on flowing, and as long as there isn't more bandwidth demand than the wire can handle, nothing will interfere with it. No collisions, no glitches.

  • Question about downloading music from records.

I wont to download music from records to my computer. Do I need a converter to do this? If so, is there a place I can download one for free? I do have iTunes.

    Hi, tocs.
The Macworld article"Turn Your LPs or Cassettes into CDs" may be of value. Some versions of Toast Titanium included Spin Doctor to aid in the vinyl-to-CD conversion. You can use iTunes to import AIFFs, the format into which you will initially convert vinyl to digital, into iTunes as MP3s.
Another solution you may want to investigate is using Griffin Technology's iMic to add audio input and output to your USB-equipped Mac, along with their free Final Vinyl software for OS X.
Note that if your turntable does not have its own amplification -- more common on the latest turntables -- you'll need to use a stereo receiver or pre-amp in conjunction with your turntable. Griffin recently introduced the PowerWave USB Audio Interface & Amplifier which may be more convenient than dragging a stereo amplifier next to your Mac, assuming the US$99 price is not off-putting
Another option is to buy the Ion Audio iTTUSB turntable, a relatively low-cost turntable with built-in phono amplification and USB output. If you read some online reviews of the iTTUSB, such as this one, you'll find it works well with Macs but you may want to use different software with it for capturing the songs, e.g. Final Vinyl or others.
    Good luck!

  • Question about moving music from an iPod to your computer.

In my household, we have iTunes on three different computers. My mother downloaded music on my brother's computer, and it's on his library. We want to burn a cd with the purchased album, but his computer does not have a cd burner, but the other two do. Is there a way to move music from one computer to another, or possibly moving music from an iPod to a computer's library?

Music is synced to iphone from itunes.
Plug in iphone and select whatever you like to sync from itunes to iphone.

  • Taking music from my computer itunes and transporting it to my laptop itune

please someone help me!!!!!!!!!!!im completely useless in the technology department-all i want to do is take the music from my itunes library on my pc and put it onto my laptop but ive no idea how to do that!the best idea ive come up with is by burning ALL my music onto blank cds and uploading them onto my laptop but that would take days!please advise me!!

Buy or borrow a USB flash drive. Copy your stuff from the old computer to the flash drive, and then from the flash drive to the new laptop. Make sure you are copying the entire My Music folder, along with anything else you want.

  • Question about taking Images from video in FCP

I just recently upgraded from pinnacle to FCP 7 and am loving it. My question is when I try to take a still Image from video using Quick Time Conversion, the image comes out blurry or with bars around the edges of people. At first I thought It was because I was trying to capture a moving Image, but then I tried it with someone standing still and I ran into the same problem.
    I shoot with a Canon XH-A1

Take the exported file to Photoshop and use Image Size to correct the aspect ratio of the image. Apply the Deinterlace filter in Photoshop to remove the interlacing.

  • Question about tranferring data from iPhone 3gs to iPhone 4

I just had a couple quick questions about transferring data from my old phone from my new iPhone 4. The reason i am wondering is because i am worried about whether i will encounter any problems when doing so.
First off i have already sold my phone today, i reset all data and settings from the phone and gave it to my buddy so its gone. I did a full sync and backup yesterday so all the necessary files should be on my computer(windows 7). Now, im basically wondering if i will run into any problems if i restore my iphone 4 from a backup. My 3gs was running 3.1.2 on att. Now i know IDEALLY i would have updated it to iOS 4 before backing it up and used the newest version of itunes, but i did not. Does anyone think this will be a problem for me?
Now with that out of the way, my biggest fear is losing my old data(text messages and notes mainly because i am a pack rat for those type of things) so id like to be SURE that none of my old backups will be deleted in any scenario. The reason i dont just restore it right now is because i want my new phone to be as clutter free as possible. I am going to be putting on here only the apps that i used often and would basically like to transfer over the BARE minimum; texts, notes, and highly used apps... So i guess my main question is can you transfer over only certain things like texts and notes after setting up the phone as a new phone. And if i were to set up the phone as a new phone what would happen to my old backups? Would i be able to selectively restore?
Im afraid that it might not be a possibility to transfer only certain things even though it should be.. i should be able to select a text messages folder and put it on my new phone and be done with it... But anyway i dont want to rant. Can anyone explain to me how this all will work?
ULTIMATE GOAL: Transfer only texts, notes, certain apps(and their data) and NOTHING ELSE.
MOST IMPORTANT THING: Not losing texts and notes. I can deal with putting all the old **** on my new phone and cluttering/slowing it down if i NEED to.
Thank you in advance, sorry for the long post.

If the most important thing for you is keeping old text messages, notes, and voicemail, then you'll need to sync the phone from your existing backup. I know of no other way to access those items.
Once you have synced to the new phone, check that you have those items that were important. Then you can reconnect your phone to iTunes, and change the sync settings to remove the apps or other items you no longer want to keep on the phone.
iPhone backups are stored by iTunes; you can see them by opening your iTunes preferences, clicking on "Devices" and then looking in the window. You can delete old backups from here. I don't know how you can open/read the backups though.
I don't expect you'd have any problems syncing from your old phone's backup, but it's definitely an either/or situation. Since you got rid of the old phone already, it's too late to email yourself your notes, or copy the text messages. Your previous backup is your only solution.

  • How to transfer files like music from mac to ipad? tried it using mac but what happen was opposite!

how to transfer files like music from mac to ipad? tried it few times but what happen was the opposite.

If you want to sync your iTunes library on your Mac to your iPad ....
Connect your iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes. Click on your iPad's name on the left side under the devices heading. Then click on the Music tab - and select the music that you want to transfer. Does your iTunes window look like this - with Sync Music checked and the playlists or albums checked as well like in the photo below?
When you click on the apps tab do you have Sync Apps checked and all of the apps in the window below checked to sync as well?
If you select all of the items under the different tabs in iTunes - music, apps, photos. etc. - when you sync - all of the selected content should sync over to the iPad.

  • Problems to download music from Mac OSX 10.4.11 to iPhone 4

    Hi to you all
Since few days I am an owner of an iPhone 4. And also I have Mac with OSX 10.4.11 at home. Well, if I connect my iPhone to Mac to synch music from Mac to iPhone 4, the iPhone get not recognized and I am therefore not able to get my music from Mac on my iPhone.
During update on Mac, I got the error message on OS is telling "Installing iTunes.pkg could not completed, this package needs Mac OSX 10.5.
If I search on Mac for new update, it says "your system is updated and there is no other update available"
With other words, I can not get higher release on Mac why I am not able to get a new version of iTunes on Mac and therefore why I am not able to synch my music from Mac to iPhone. Very frustrating.
    Any advise is welcome.
    Thank you.

You will need to upgrade your version of OS on your Mac. You will need Leopard (10.5.8) or Snow Leopard (10.6.X)

  • How can i sync music from mac air to zen creative mp3 player

how can i sync music from mac air to zen creative mp3 player

iTunes will only sync with Apple devices.  You may find when you plug in your player it appears on hte desktop as another drive.  You can drag files from iTunes to that drive.  You may need to then place them in a special folder but all this is something for you to research since players differ.  We use a Sansa Clip and a RCA player with our iTunes library and that how we do it.
Make sure your player can play the format files you have in your collection.  Our slightly older players will not play AAC which is the standard format used by the iTunes Store.  If you find that to be the case you will have to convert formats.

  • How do i back up music from mac to cloud

Can I back up all my music from itunes, both purchased and input manualy to library.  How can I make sure this is happening - or how can I do it? Also, what is a good storage plan to have if you have a lot of music and a lot of Photos on Iphoto.  I cannot seem to find the answers to how to use this feature for music and photos.  Please Help - Julie

One of the key steps that you'll need to take is (after signing into the iTunes Store) open the Preferences & choose the "Store tab".
You'll then be able to make sure that the "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" is selected.
After that, you go to your Library - where you need to select "Music" - be it your songs or your albums. At this point you may see an iCloud icon right next to the selector - or not; if you don't see it, then you'll need to select "View" from the iTunes menu bar. You will then see on the drop down menu list either "Show Music in the Cloud" or "Hide Music in the Cloud"; that's your toggle which you use to unveil your Music in the Cloud icon.
Now there is just one more preference that you may need to use to see all of your iCloud icons and that is also found right under "View"; it's "Show View Options" where you may need to check the box labeled "iCloud Download" from among the various "View Options".
So now that all of your preferences are set, you can plainly see which songs that are in the Cloud (the ones with the Cloud icon right next to the song or right on the album).....or if there is no Cloud icon then it's already in your library or has been downloaded into your Library. To download a song or album just click on the Cloud icon & it begins to download into your library.
So now you can choose which songs &/or albums you wish to download or re-download - depending how you wish to manage your iTunes library - which I won't go into here as there are so many options in addition to what we've gone over.
I hope that I've been able to help as there are so many preferences & options, indeed.
    Enjoy
    mm~
