Question about tightning a loose monitor.

I have a CQ60-615DX Notebook and the monitor is beginning to feel loose and wobbly but I'm unsure about how to tighten it back up, any help is much appreciated.

you can tighten the screws on the hinges, see the maintenance guide  in the section of removing the display panel.

  • Basic questions about macbook pro + external monitor

    Hi,
I have some very basic questions about using a Macbook Pro + external display. I don't actually have them but need to know how things works.
    So, here they are:
    1) Can I use the external display as the main display?
    2) Will the external display run with its resolution or with that of the mbook pro?
    3) Somewhere I read that you cannot keep the macbook pro open and get the full resolution of the external display. Is that true ?
    4) Is it dangerous to keep the mbook closed while using the external display?
    5) Does the usage of the external display impact on mbook performance?
I know...a lot of questions , but would be nice if someone could help me.
    Thanks.

Hi - I am presently using an external display.
To answer your questions in sequence:
    1. Yes you can use the external display as your main display. The way to enable that mode is to put your MacBook Pro to sleep, attach the external display. Wake up your MBPro with the lid closed and you will see the external display as you main display. You can alternatively set the external to "Mirror" your notebook by using preferences/display.
    2. The external display will run at its resolution although you can adjust and calibrate it using Preferences/Display.
    3. Not true. You get max resolution on both displays. Of course you may have to tweak as mentioned above.
    4. Not at all. I use this mode all the time. Just make sure you initially set up as mentioned above and your LCD on the MBPro will stay off.
    5. I have not seen any performance degradation whatsoever.
    Hope this helps.

  • Tecra A2: Question about DVI and external monitor

    Hello,
I'm trying to get a DVI Signal from the Tecra A2 using the advanced Port Replicator III but without luck. Does the A2 support DVI anyway?
Another question: Is it possible to set the primary display to the external Monitor when using "extended Desktop"?
    Thanks
    Ralph Menon

    Hello Ralph
Your unit doesnt support DVI port and you can not use it. As far as I know just ports that you can find on the unit you can use in Port Replicator because the signal is just loop through.
The problem with primary display is that notebook is set to primary one and it can not be changed (on my Tecra M1 neither). The Windows will starts on external one but box for password will always appears on notebook display.
    Bye

  • Question about going from source monitor into timeline prior to going into program monitor?

In FCP you had to take a clip from the equivalent of the Source Monitor to the Program Monitor and either do an insert or overwite edit with the clip from there. I see that Premiere has insert and overwrite buttons built right into the Source monitor window. Are there any issues with doing it all from here and not dragging them into the Program Monitor first?
    Thanks.

Typical NLE behavior is to go from the Source Monitor to the Timeline.  The Program Monitor shows whatever is in the timeline.  If FCP forced you to go from Source to Program, and then to timeline, that is very unusual behavior for an NLE since, again, the Program monitor is supposed to show you what's in the timeline.
What PP now allows you to do is drag a clip from Source to Program, but this will simultaneously add the clip to the timeline because, as I said, the Program Monitor's purpose is to show you what's in the timeline.  With most any NLE out there, if it ain't in the timeline, it won't show up in the Program Monitor.  And if it shows up in the Program Monitor, then it must already be in the timeline.

  • 2 Questions about MBAir with external monitor

    1) Hooking the 13" Air to a 21" or 27" display, how well will it run all the basic software (Word, Excel, Pages, Picasa, iPhoto, InDesign, browsers, etc.)? Would this be a sufficient replacement for a 2011 vintage iMac 27" with 1 Tb drive and 12G of Ram (I have a decent 3TB external drive)?
    2) What exactly are the differences between the just announced MBAir 13" 256 and the prior generation MBAir 13" 256?  I've checked the specs, but don't know if the changes make a big difference in real time use.
    Thanks

Your 'g' network already works much faster than your internet connection, upgrading to a 'n' network will not increase d/l speeds.
Indeed it may have limited impact on your tv, a 'g' network is in theory able to work up to 54 Mbps, in practice it will never reach anywhere near these speeds, but the point is that the tv will reach a limit at which you can transfer information to it, I've found this to be less than 20 Mbps. So if your 'g' network is performing well you may have already reached this limit.
tv's by their very nature tend to be quite a way from the rest of your computer equipment though and the 'n' wifi standard does have a significantly better range as well as a higher speed.
Yes, running 'g' equipment on an 'n' network will slow things down, but not all that much. An 'n' only network will run at 144 Mbps whereas a 'g and n' network will work at 130 Mpps ( for 'n' devices, obviously 'g' devices still work at 54 Mbps). The 'n' enable extreme does of course have the ability to run at 5 Ghz instead of 2.4 Ghz, in which case it should be able to work at 270/300 Mbps, but at this frequency 'g' devices cannot work with it and the range is severely restricted.

  • Question about using iMac 2011 as a monitor

    hi ,, i have imac 2011 21'5
can i use as a monitor to play xbox 360 on it using mini displayport to hdmi cable ??
if no then is there way else i can play xbox on my imac screen

    Frank:
Thanks so much for responding! One question about your post. When you say that the Mac Mini cannot boot in OS 9, does that mean that if I wanted it to hold Filemaker Pro 4 files (which runs on OS 9), that it cannot do this? We would not be running Filemaker on the Mini, just storing the files. We would run Filemaker off of our desktop computers. Sorry, I don't know a ton about computers, so sometimes I need clarification about the terms that people use.-Rob

  • Re: Question about the Satellite P300-18Z

    Hello everyone,
I have a couple of questions about the Satellite P300-18Z.
What "video out" does this laptop have? (DVI, s-video or d-sub)
Can I link the laptop up to a LCD-TV and watch movies on a resolution of 1080p? (full-HD)
What is the warranty on this laptop?

    Hello
According the notebook specification Satellite P300-18Z has follow interfaces:
DVI - No DVI port available
HDMI - HDMI-out (HDMI out port available)
Headphone Jack - External Headphone Jack (Stereo) available
.link - iLink (Firewire) port available
Line in Jack - No Line in Jack port available
Line out Jack - No Line Out Jack available
Microphone Jack - External Micrphone Jack
    TV-out - port available (S-Video port)
VGA - VGA (External monitor port RGB port)
Also you can connect it to your LCD TV using HDMI cable.
Warranty is country specific and clarifies this with your local dealer but I know that all Toshiba products have 1 year standard warranty and also 1 year international warranty. you can of course expand it.

  • A lot of questions about my MacBook Air

I am really new to re-using Apple computers. The last time I used an Apple computer was back in 1987 when the school and my family had Apple IIGS computers. I have been using PC's which reqiure Microsoft. I a lot of have questions (10 questions) about my MacBook Air and I hope you good people can and will help me.
    Product: MacBook Air
Operating System: Mac OS X Version 10.7.4
    1) I Downloaded MacKeeper because I was fooled. I had a bad feeling just before I Downloaded it and I should have listened to my heart. However, I didn't buy it or fully Install it. It was like a test run and then they wanted me to pay almost $100 for it. Thankfully, I didn't because I read it is Malware. I spoke with an Apple Tech at Apple Care and he helped me get rid of it (or so we think). I don't see it anymore on my computer. I read it can slow down your computer. How can you tell if it's really off of the computer?
    2) When I open "Finder" and I see that there are people Sharing my computer with me. I went into AirDrop and it reads, "Other people can see your Mac as (my name) MacBook Air when their computer is nearby." I bought a HotSpot and while it's turned on and I selected it as my WI-FI connection I thought it would  get rid of these people, protect what I type, me, my items, computer, etc. But it didn't.
I didn't know that I have to buy a exteral CD and/or DVD Player in order to connect to the brand new Modem and Router in one by NetGear. I am so used to PCs and the CD/DVD Players being built inside.
The people at Apple Store told me that there is an internal modem inside, but I don't know how to find it and what to do then.  Should I use a Firewall?, An AntiVirus, AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, etc. Apple Care tech told me I don't need to get an AntiVirus.
    3) Is there a new kind of Wireless Modem and Router that doesn't require a CD-ROM?
    4) When I travel or fly and I am not close to home I was told by Best Buy and Sprint that I had to buy a mobile HotSpot to use the computer (WI-FI) safely. As I typed, I have one. But it's pretty expensive and only gives me 1 hour and 15 minutes per day to Stream. What can I do to use this computer safely Online when I am out of range from a Modem and Router? What do people do when they travel on airplanes?
    5) This compter won't let me use "Raid." I think you have to have a newer version. I hard about Raid on the radio from Leo (can't recall his last name) who's a Tech expert.
    6) Should I buy a ZipDrive? Apple Store Tech told me that I didn't need a ZipDrive. I just remember the episode of HBO's "Sex and The City" when Carrie looses everything because her copy crashed. Now, of course, I know that's a fictional show, but with PC's and Microsoft I have lost everything when it crashed, frooze up, etc. I know there's iClouds. I heard about Carbonite, but I have read the Pros and Cons about it. Mostly they are Cons about it. I just don't want to do anything wrong and mess up this computer.
    7) Should I buy a new Printer/Copier/Scanner because mine is an HP. It's not new, but it works. I even have a CD-ROM for Macs. What about the new product called, "Neat"?
    8) Is there a special product that I should buy to do Online Banking and/or other important stuff?
    9) I saw and read about iWork in the Apps Store and it sounds cool. I still have alot of friends and colleagues who still use Microsoft. Is iWork good to use? Should I Download it from the Apple Apps Store or can a buy it at Apple? Is there another Word Processing Program that is great and user friendly and will work with Macs and PCs?
    10) Should I Update the OS with OS X Mountian Lion Pro from the Apple Apps Store or buy it at Apple Store?
In advance, I wish to thank you in this Apple Support Communites for your help.  Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

    1) Here are instructions for removing MacKeeper. Since it mostly consists of manually looking for folders and specific files, if you follow the instructions you either fail to find what you are told to find (because your AppleCare guide gave you complete instructions which you followed) or you'll find some additional files that need to be replaced.
2 & 3) I assume you are looking at the sidebar of a Finder window and seeing Shared and computers under it. Those are computers that you can potentionally share. To do so you'd need an account on their computer and a password. They are not sharing your computer.
AirDrop allows you to create an adhoc network for filesharing and it only functions when you have selected the AirDop item in the SideBar. Actually doing that merely announces to computers in the same network node that your computer is available for a file to be sent to. Even then you have to explicitly allow the file to be downloaded to your computer. Similarly you'd be able to see other computers with AirDrop selected and be able to send them a file - which they'd have to accept.
The only reason your NetGear Router comes with a CD is to install and run their 'easy' step by step configuration program. It can also be done manually with a browser. Read the manual to find the IP address you must enter to access the router's configuration menu. Apple's WiFi routers don't require a CD to install the software because the configuration software is already on your computer.
I do have my firewall turned on. AntiVirus software isn't a bad idea - I use Sophos having tested it for a review for our local User Group and I found I liked it better than ClamAVx which is what I'd been using before. Both are free.
    4) I think you were scammed by Sprint and BestBuy. I use hotel, coffee shop, and restaurant WiFi spots and have for years. However, because they can be unsecured, I do not shop online or bank when I'm using them. I also use 1Password and don't reuse passwords so even if a sniffer should grab an account and password that's all it would get - one account.
    5) Raid doesn't really make sense with a MacBook Air - a RAID involves 2 or more disks being used as if they were one.
    6) Zip drive? No. External hard drive - yes. It isn't a question of if a computer's hard drive will malfunction, it is when. OWC has a nice selection of external drives and the Mac has a built in backup system called TimeMachine. Due to the way TimeMachine works, I've found that your TimeMachine drive should be at least twice as large - and preferably 3-4 times as large as the data you are backing up.
    7) if your printer works and it has Mountain Lion drivers, why replace it?
    8) Online banking is done with a browser - Use Safari or FireFox
    9) If trading files with Windows users is important Mac: Office is your best bet. If not, iWork, Mac:Office, or LibreOffice are all good possibilities.
    10) you can only buy Mt Lion via the App Store.

  • Questions about editing with io HD or Kona 3 cards

My production company is switching from Avid to Final Cut Pro. I have a few editing system questions (not ingesting and outputting, just questions about systems for the actual editors - we will have mac pros with either kona 3 or io HD for ingest and outputs)
    1) Our editors work from home so they most likely will be using MacBook Pros - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz 4GB computers with eSata drives to work on uncompressed HD, will they be able to work more quickly in FCP if they are using the new Mac Pro 8-Core (2 Quad-Core 2.8GHz Intel Xeon) or will the mac book pro's be able to hold their own with editing hour long documentaries, uncompressed HD
    2) Will having an AJA Kona 3 (if we get the editors mac pros) or io HD (for the mac book pros) connected be a significant help to the editor's and their process, will it speed up their work, will it allow them to edit sequences without having to render clips of different formats? Or will they be just as well off without editing with the io HD?
I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the necessity of the AJA hardware in terms of working with the editors to help them do what they have to do with projects that have been shot on many formats- DVCPro tapes, Aiptek cameras that create QTs and P2 footage.
    Thanks

    1. with the IoHD, laptops become OK working with ProRes and simply eSata setups. Without the Io, they can't view externally on a video monitor (a must in my book). It will not speed up rendering a ton, nor will it save renders of mixed formats. The idea is to get all source footage to ProRes with the Io, and then the Io also lifts the CPU from having to convert ProRes to something you can monitor externally on a video monitor, and record back to any tape format you want... all in real time.
    2. Kona 3's on Towers would run circles around render times on a Laptop... no matter what the codec, but the Kona does not really speed renders up. That's a function of the CPU and just how fast is it. (lots of CPU's at faster speeds will speed up render times).
I'd recommend you capture to ProRes with Io's or the Kona 3 and don't work in uncompressed HD. You gain nothing doing it quality wise at all. And you only use up a ton of disk space (6 times the size in fact) capturing and working in uncompressed HD, which from your post, you're not shooting anyway. The lovely thing about ProRes is that it's visually lossless, efficient, and speeds up the editing process. Mixing formats can be done, but it's better to go to ProRes for all source footage, and edit that way.
With either the Kona or the Io, you then can output to uncompressed HD tape... that's what they do for you no matter what codec you've edited in. ProRes is designed to be the codec of choice for all HD projects when you're shooting different formats especially... Get them all singing the same tune in your editing stations, and you'll be a much happier camper. Only reason to buy laptops is portability... otherwise you're much better off with towers and the Kona 3 speed wise.

  • Questions about mac mini iTunes server, streaming to macbook pro, ipads, etc.

I'm thinking about getting a mac mini to work with my NAS as a iTunes server. I have a bunch of questions about this. I will have two iPhones, a few iPads, and a laptop that will be accessing the files. I have iTunes match. This is basically to keep an always on computer for hosting the music/movies. My questions are as follows . . .
#1 Are there any good, comprehensive guides to show you how to do this?
#2 Can the movies be accessed when not at home on the shared network?
#3 Can the iPads or the macbook pro download the shared movies to be stored locally?
#4 Back to #3, how will it work on my macbook pro with listening to music (I have iTunes match)? Say i go to library and I break out my macbook pro and I don't have internet. What happens if I download music while at home onto my macbook pro to listen to it when I go to the library? Will i start a new library on my macbook pro? How will that mesh with the home server when I come back.
#5 Is there a way to mirror files or folders? So something that I have on my macbook pro will also mirror on the home server.
Thanks for your help on this. I'll post any follow up questions.

    1. I want to replace the Optical drive with a 2TB SATA. can I use this 2.5 inch?
I do not know if it is the same model number, but this one will work in your MBP:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SEAGATE%20OWC/ST2000LM003M/
    2. I want to replace the HD with a 128GB SSD 840. When I replace these drives, will my OS still be in tact? I have never done this job before.
No. You will have to format the drives in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then install the OSX by using the original install disks.
3.) I want to replace the ram sticks to max capacity. This is 2 2GB sticks, Correct?
No.  An early 17" 2008 MBP will accept 6GB RAM with the following specifications:  200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    4.) Most difficult...
I want to extend the monitor wirelessly to a projector. I thought about using Apple TV and Airplay. However, support for airplay is for MacBooks 2011 and newer. I thought of using a PS3 and the media server, but I think this brings on a format compatibility issue. (my library is so large I could not afford to convert all my movies to MP4.) So, how would you recommend I put my extended monitor with VLC player onto a projector?
Could I possibly connect the MBP to a Mac Mini as an extension? would this work natively? I would rather use a VGA cord than F with 3rd party app BS.
    Cannot help you there.
5..) I want to Bypass iTunes this time around. I would prefer to use Finder and VLC to manage all of my music. I mostly play all my music on shuffle, so, could I create a playlist on VLC with all of my music and play it randomly? (im sure this is possible but i'd like to organize all my plans with confirmation.)
You are not obligated to use iTunes.
6.) Can i upgrade the keyboard to backlit? i've read that this is possible.
All MBPs have back lighted keyboards.  Your either needs a NVRAM reset or a repair.
    Ciao.

  • Some question about International Travel

Ok so i know alot of people have question about international travel weather is USA to Canada, Canada to USA or where ever.
So i just got off the phone with someone from AT&T these are my questions for them. i hope it can help, im confuse myself.
*1. I travel recently travel to canada a few weeks ago, when i cross the boarder i switch the data roaming ON and it picks up Rogers Wireless, a few days ago i try i again it said NO SERVICE is something wrong with my iPad?*
NO, consider yourself lucky u didnt get charge for that roaming, your ipad well not work out of the US unless u buy one of our International plans that AT&T has provided. The reason for this is so you wont have any unwanted charge or high charge on your bill.
*2. If i was to buy a sim card from Canada and pop it in to my US ipad well it work?*
Honestly that's something you can try at your own risk, it's design for AT&T so by switching sim cards it may affect your ipad such as running slow, virus, crash. You can try it, i dont work for Rogers so i know nothing about them, i work for AT&T so i can only tell you about our plans and i wont lie to you.(I THINK U JUST DID) This ipad is not unlock just like the iphone so it well only work with AT&T.
*3. If i pop my sim card out and put in an international sim card well it affect my plan at all or in any way?*
Yes it can, right now your on the unlimited plan if you put in a different sim card and then re-put in ur AT&T one chances are you're going to loose your unlimited plan and have to settle for the newer plan. That's why AT&T has reduce it's international plans so people are more likely to use it. It's a contract we sign with Apple, if u want to use in canada you can always buy an Ipad in canada and use their plan. (***)
At the end of this conversion i was just more angry with them. All in all she told bottom line is dont do anything stick with AT&T and pay for international plans. So i have to pay over price data plan if i want to use it intertanional? or i have to buy an ipad for each international places i go to?
Has anyone try or done any of the 3 ive mention and did it affect ur plan or ipad in anyway?
    Thanks
    Andy

Ok so here's a little more info
I called AT&T again today asking them the same question the guy was more helpful then the one yesterday. Even though he kinda told me the same saying that the ipad need to be unlock. , Afterward he transfer me someone from Apple. The lady told me
    1. The ipad is UNLOCK so dont bother trying to get it unlock.
    2. she doesnt see why sticking in another sim card from one of the apple ipad carrier is a problem. U would just have to sign up activated it like u would when u first got it.
    3. Contact phone company (my case Rogers) to see if they carry the mico sim cards.
    4. She doesnt see why it would affect the current plan u have now.
So at the end of all that she told me, seem like AT&T is just telling you, you cant do this or u shouldnt do that is simple THEY WANT YOU TO USE THEIR PLANS.
so with that i said i just want to let everyone know. I'm gonna go pick my Micro sim cards from Canada in a bit and sign up for thier plan we'll keep everyone updated if anything change or how it work

Question about free downloading Mavericks. On checking Mavericks before downloading that there are no Bangla language in the list. I occasionally use Bangla in my present Mountain Lion. My concerns is, if I download Mavericks then what will happen to Bangla language in mountain lion? Samar Laha

No reason to be embarassed. You are not alone.
You will need an external drive. If you have a Time Machine drive without enough disk space you can create the clone there however it's advised that you keep your Time Machine and clone on separate drives. If the drive dies you loose both types of backup.
Download and install the clone software. Everyone has their favorite. These are the two most common applications used. I prefer SuperDuper because of it's simplicity in setting up. It's also free for the first clone where with CCC you have to give a Credit Card then cancel if you do not want to keep.
    SuperDuper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    CCC http://www.bombich.com/download.html
Select your drive in the To popup. Click on Copy Now. That's it.
Yes, it really is that simple....

  • A few questions about Patone colors

I have a few questions about patone colors since this is the first time I use them. I want to use them to create a letterhead and business cards in two colors.
    1)
I do understand that the uncoated is more washed out than the coated patone colors. I heard that this is because the way paper absorbs the inkt. This is why the same inkt results in different colors on different paper (right?). My question is why is the patone uncoated black so much different than normal black (c=0 m=0 y=0 k=100) or rich black:
When I print a normal document with cmyk, I can get pretty dark black colors. Why is it that I cannot have that dark black color with patone colors? Even text documents printed on a cheap printer can get a darker color than the Patone color. It just looks way too grey for me.
    2) For a first mockup, I want to print the patone colors as cmyk (since I put like 10 different colors on a page for fast comparison). I know that these cmyk colors differ from the patone colors and that I cannot get a 100% representation. But is there a way to convert patone to cmyk values?
I hope that some of you can help me out with my questions.
    Thanks.

You can get Pantone's CMYK tints in Illustrator, (Swatches Panel > Open Swatch Library > Color Books > PANTONE+ Color Bridge Coated or Uncoated) but in my view, what's the point?  If you're printing to a digital printer, just use RGB (HSB) or CMYK. Personally, I never use Pantone's CMYK so-called "equivalents."
Pantone colors are all mixed pigmented inks, many of which fluoresce beyond the gamut limits of RGB and especially CMYK. The original Pantone Matching System (PMS) was created for the printing industry. It outlined pigmented ink formulations for each of its colors.
Most digital printers (laser or inkjet) use CMYK. The CMYK color gamut is MUCH SMALLER than what many mixed inks, printed on either coated or uncoated papers can deliver. When you specify non-coated Pantone ink in AI, according to Pantone's conversion tables, AI tries to "approximate" what that color will look like on an uncoated sheet, using CMYK. -- In my opinion, this has little relevance to real-world conditions, and is to be avoided in most situations.
If your project is going to be printed on a printing press with spot Pantone inks, then by all means, use Pantone colors. But don't trust the screen colors; rather get a Pantone swatch book and look at the actual inks on both coated and uncoated papers, according to the stock you will use on the press.
With the printing industry rapidly dwindling in favor of the web and inkjet printers, Pantone has attempted to extend its relevance beyond the pull-date by publishing (in books and in software alliances, with such as Adobe) its old PMS inks, and their supposed LAB and CMYK equivalents. I say "supposed" because again, RGB monitors and CMYK inks can never be literally equivalent to many Pantone inks. But if you're going to print your project on a printing press, Pantone inks are still very relevant as "spot colors."
I also set my AI Preferences > Appearance of Black to both Display All Blacks Accurately, and Output All Blacks Accurately. The only exception to this might be when printing on a digital printer, where there should be no registration issues.
Rich black in AI is a screen phenomenon, unless in Prefs > Appearance of Black, you also specify "Output All Inks As Rich Black," -- something I would NEVER do if outputting for an actual printing press. I always set my blacks in AI to "Output All Blacks Acurately" when outputting for a press. If you fail to do this, then on the press you will see any minor registration problems, with C, M, and Y peeking out, especially around black type.  UGH!
    Good luck!  :+)

  • Few questions about recovery on P100-400

    Good evening all,
I have a few questions about recovering my laptop...
So, I was thinking if the only way to clean my entire disk is to use the Recovery DVD?
I ask this because I think that the computer becomes too "heavy" with all the applications it came with. So I was wondering if I can format the Hard Drive instead of recover it.
If I format the drive do I loose warranty? Is there any future problem related to genuine software?
It's possible to install Windows XP Pro (and not the actual windows xp media center) with the original Operative system's product key?
    Thank you.
    Best Regards.

I do not understand what you mean with I can format the Hard Drive instead of recover it but you can do follow: install OS using delivered recovery media and after doing this remove all applications you do not need. After doing this maybe your notebook will not be heavy anymore.
    > If I format the drive do I loose warranty?
    NO.
    > Is there any future problem related to genuine software?
I do not know what you mean exactly
    > It's possible to install Windows XP Pro (and not the actual windows xp media center) with the original Operative system's product key?
No. Something like this is not possible. Product key belongs to delivered and preinstalled OS.
