Question about training junk mail

In Mail I've set the Junk preference as 'Move it to the Junk Mailbox', but it's missing quite a few junk mails & delivering them to my Inbox.
So I thought I'd set it to 'Leave it on my Inbox... (Training)' & mark them manually for a while.
I'm thinking that if I train Mail to recognise all the junk mail for a while I'll be able to switch it back to 'Move it to the Junk Mailbox' & should catch the junk mail that it previously missed.
Am I right in thinking this?
If so then how long (roughly) should I train junk mail for? If not any suggestions on what might be the best thing to do?
(Would leaving the setting at 'Move it to the Junk Mailbox' but clicking the Rest button in preferences help?)

What Dan said. The junk filter never stops learning, and learns the same regardless of the mode of operation. What trains the filter is manually marking messages as either junk or not junk when Mail fails to correctly identify them.
The only difference between Training and Automatic modes is whether junk mail is automatically moved to a separate Junk mailbox or not. Keeping junk mail in the Inbox is called Training mode simply because nobody in his/her right mind would want to keep doing that after having trained the filter for some time. The filter could be set Automatic mode right away without that having any adverse impact on its training.

  • Question about Training Spamassassin

I'm preparing some instructions to my staff about training SpamAssassin, and I need a bit of help.
E-mail that is spam and not marked as "*JUNK MAIL*" should be moved to the "junkmail" folder, and mail that is marked as "*JUNK MAIL*" which is actually ham should go to the notjunkmail folder. That's clear.
Also, I know you are supposed to send e-mail Spamassassin believes is "ham" and that is "ham" to the notjunkmail folder.
So, is it also true that you should send spam e-mail that Spamassassin correctly believes is "spam" (marked as *JUNK MAIL*) to the "junkmail" folder?

So, it is also true that you should send e-mail that Spamassassin believes is
"spam" (marked as *JUNK MAIL*) to the "junkmail" folder?
If SpamAssassin properly tagged the mail, there's no need to send it to JunkMail. The system has already learned from the message.
Initially, think of JunkMail and NotJunkMail as training. You need to feed it as much spam/ham as possible to build it's base of knowledge.
After training, think of JunkMail and NotJunkmail more as correction. When SpamAssassin makes a mistake, you send the message to JunkMail/NotJunkmail and SpamAssassin will unlearn what it automatlically learned and re-learn as Junk or NotJunk.
Once the system has been trained and tuned, you should have very little of this correction.. maybe a few messages per user per day.

  • Question about using Apple Mail with Verizon

Not sure if this is an Apple or Verizon question, but leaning toward the latter so here it is...
On my MacBook Pro, running OS 10.8.3, I have several accounts. Each has its own Verizon username e.g. [email protected], [email protected] etc. Everything had been working fine but last night I had an issue sending email from, say, the username1 account. I went to the username account to test it out and it worked fine - I sent an email to username1 in Mail and username1 had no problem receiving it. But username1 couldn't send email - it gave an error message about the outgoing server, asking me if I wanted to try another one.
Now the odd thing is that the outgoing server name was (and has always been) exactly the same for username1 and username. But when I selected outgoing.verizon.net:username1 instead of the usual one, it was able to send email. I'm not sure why that other server name was listed as an option, but glad that it was there.
So my question is why would two accounts on the same computer have to use two different Verizon outgoing mail servers in order to send email?
    Thanks.
P.S. I should mention that, based on input from this forum, I ignored Verizon's "urgent" email from back in March about changing mail settings.

There's input, and then there's input.
By this time you should be using only the recommended settings across all your devices and platforms.  As far as I can determine, all devices, operating systems, mail clients, etc., have been successfully configured using the new recommended settings.  There are indeed individuals who are still finding issues, but the general consensus among experienced users seems to be that the issues reported are related to individual settings and devices, and do not stem from the server side.
BTW I don't at all mean to suggest that a particular user is anything less than capable.  I'm just stating what I believe is the situation today.

  • Question about iCloud and mail

I totally do not understand all of this iCloud stuff.  I hope you can help me.  I have a .mac account that I know can be pushed to the Cloud.   In the Mail Program I have two other accounts with different providers.  One is an IMAP and the other a POP account that I understand can be changed to an IMAP account.  I get e-mail from all three accounts in Mail.  Is the Cloud only for .mac or me accounts?  Will my other accounts be in the Cloud as well?  If not, will I still be able to read my e-mails in Mail on both my computer and iPad?  Also if I switch over to iCloud, does every device have to be synced the same way?  I have a Nano and iPad.  I do not want my music synced to my iPad.  I only want it synced to my Nano.  Will I never be able to sync with iTunes once I switch to the Cloud?

I understand about the POP account.  Will the .mac account and my other IMAP account show up separately as two different accounts in iCloud as they do in Mail or will they be merged together?  Will I even be using Mail to view my e-mail?  I never attached my two other accounts to my .mac account.  They remained separate accounts and were viewed separately in Mail.  I have had my .mac account for several years and know that I will lose it if I do not convert over to iCloud by the end of June.  I mainly used it for Mail and the iDisk.  I have an iPad, Nano and iMac.  If I can still sync my IPad and Nano via iTunes, is it worth all of the trouble people are having with iCloud to convert over to it?   I do not use ICal and have a very small address book.  Will I be okay with what little I have or would it just be better to let go of my .mac account and not merge over to iCloud at all or will i eventually be forced to do it?  I also have another iMac that is running Snow Leopard.  I am sorry I am so ignorant about this.  I just don't understand it all.

  • Question about the new Mail shiped with Lion

    Hi,
I've this quick one to the Dev's which have already worked with Lion's Mail.
Would it be possible to do simple file copy from Snow Mail to Lion Mail ?
I am not asking about the migration possibilyties during upgrade because my current MBP is a Core Duo one and therefore can't use them for Lion.
My MBP 2006 needs to be upgraded soon :-) and will take place in the comming weeks. And I am wondering how to transfer my current mails to the new platform OS since Lion Mail is upgraded as well.
Is the Filesystem Layout from Lion Mail the same as in Snow Mail which allows me to do a plain FS copy ?
    Thxs in advance
    olbo

    Hi,
I've just spent a good hour or so trying to work out how I can move my existing emails and mail accounts from my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) machine to my brand new iMac (Lion) machine.
    Have not had much luck.
I copied over ~\Library\Preferences\com.apple.mail.plist and the files in ~\Library\Mail and ~\Mail Downloads.
When I start mail in Lion, it asks me for new email account information so has no idea of my existing accounts.  Once I re-enter one of my email accounts, I get all my old folders but all the emails are missing....
Is there a simple way to copy accross the accounts and existing mails.  I have tried the Migration Assistant, but I dont want to end up with a new account on the machine just to get the mail accross.
I'm pretty sure I did the same process between two snow leopard machines and it worked fine....
    thanks for any help...

  • Little question about a Claws-Mail tray icon theme, and how to use it.

There is a Claws Mail tray icon theme available on gnome-look.org:
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … tent=71540
These are the instructions the author gives to install the theme:
    Claws Mail Tango trayicon theme
    Claws-Mail version = 3.3.0
copy icons claws-mail-3.3-0/src/pixmaps, recompile and install.
So what am I supposed to do (especially since the newest Claws Mail version is 3.4.0...)?

I would recommend using ABS. just makepkg -o first so the sources get DL'd and unpacked. copy your icons and makepkg -e so the sources are not extracted again and therefore your new icons overwitten.
    finally, enjoy some awesomeness:

  • Question about training

What training courses would you suggest that I take?  I am an ABAP programmer that is being moved to BI.  I have an old BW310 version 3.5 training manual that I have been reading.  Do you think that I need to take BW310 for 7.0?  I am wondering if it changed enough that I should take it.  We are on version 7.0 with our system.  I am looking at taking BW330 but do I really need to take 310 first?
    Davis

It totally depends on you. In my case i have practiced BI 7.0 by myself by practicing different dataflows such as
loading transactional and master data using flat files and from R/3.
There are some changes between 3.5 and 7.0 but it may not be too difficult for a person who has work experince in 3.5 to learn 7.0. May be you can go through the following site and try understand the differences between both versions and always SDN is there to help you.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/a4/1be541f321c717e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
But if you cant understand the main differences and couldnt create different dataflows in your system i suggest you to take 310 so that you can be strong in basics.

  • What is the correct way to teach leopard server mail about junk mail?

All my clients are using apple mail and they basically taught their own client each their own way of filter junk mail. This works ok...but after upgrading to Leopard Server I think the server can be trained with junk mail data too? If so, anyone know how to set it up? I only see options to mark mail as junk mail on the server side, nothing about training.

I have done it on a mac os 10.4 server, it works great. Have a look here

  • Junk Mail won't move to Junk folder after training+switching to automatic

After training for months, I switched my preferences to automatic and now my existing junk mail doesn't move to the junk folder.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Same problem here - also using an IMAP account. Junk mail is labeled correctly but does not move automatically to the junk folder even though the option to do that is enabled in preferences.

  • Question about iCloud. How do I change my e-mail address, I have the wrong one and want to change it.

question about iCloud.  How do I change my e-mail address, I got the wrong address.

There are a variety of options available to you, including creating an email "alias" or changing the email address associated with your iCloud ID.
For all practical purposes your iCloud email address and Apple ID are interchangeable. To change your Apple ID read Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID.
If you simply created an Apple ID in error, you might consider abandoning it altogether and creating a new one. On the other hand, if you already used that Apple ID to purchase iTunes or other digital content, don't create a new Apple ID, because any purchases you already made are inexorably linked to the Apple ID used to make them.

  • How do I delete junk mail without it opening up?  I'm concerned about security,

I am a neophyte so hopefully my question will reach someone!  I need to know how to delete unwanted junk mail without it opening up on my screen when I scroll to the delete button

No need to worry. OS X isn’t Windows. It won’t run any embedded code in the email.
However, if it has embedded html images, your loading the image will validate your email to spammers. You can disable that in Mail’s preferences.
Otherwise, Close the Preview Pane and select the messages, then delete.

  • Question about the notification center (Mails and Reminders)

    Hello together,
I just started using Mountain Lion and now I have some few questions about the notification center.
    1. Is it possible to show all reminds in the notification center? I have a lot of reminds without an date / time and they don't appear in the notification center.
    2. Is it possible to show the last five Mails in the notification center? I'm just seeing new incoming mails, but I would prefer it, if I could see the last five mails
(no matter if readed or unreaded).
Thank you very much for you help.
    Ratte1988
    Hallo zusammen,
    Ratte1988

Only reminders with dates appear in the notification center - undated ones don't. Once an email has been read, it is removed from the notification center. Apple has a feedback center where you can offer suggestions.

  • A question about BC 400 training program

    Dear all,
I have a question about SAP taining program for ABAP. My manager will soon register me for the training program BC 400, which seems to be the start point for those who don't know anything about ABAP. I was looking at the course description page and I saw that the course is provided as VLC (Virtual Class). As I understood is that the student connects from his workstation to the training center, so it is distant training program.
I think it would be more interesting for me to be directly in the classroom with teacher face-to-face.
Therefore, my qestion is the fact that a training program is VLC, does it mean that it is no more possible to attend directly in classes ? or is just for those who may not want for some reason attend directly to the class?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dariyoosh
