Question about trying to install an old program

I am trying to install music writing software from a CD. This software has worked well for me on XP and Windows 7. When I tried to run it from the disk, I got an error message. So, I went through the whole "compatibility mode" process, trying it
in both XP and Windows 7 modes, without success. The installation process would begin, but then it would hang up. The software in question is called "Mozart," and I am attempting to run an early version, Mozart 6. The website for the software is

Now, here's the rub: I posted a question about this at the Mozart Software Yahoo Group, and one participant there said that he had installed Mozart 6 on a Windows 8 computer without difficulty. So, the question becomes, what am I doing wrong? Or do I have
a hardware problem? I have a new Toshiba laptop with 6 gigs of ram. I have Avast anti-virus software as well as Spybot anti-spyware software - could one of those be blocking a program installation from the disk drive?

Did you try download the latest version or applied the latest service pack?
This software is not free, you can also contact them for better support
Also using 2 antivirus is not recommended. You also can try to disable them, disable UAC and disable firewall to check

I just purchased an IMac with lion and I tryed to install an old math program that is for winmac running systems. When I try to boot the cd it comes up with a notepad window with a bunch of weird symbols and codes but the program will not start up.

Your Mac probably does not know with which application to open the file and is opening a file with a text editor that really needs to be opened by the application itself. Try starting the application first, then use the File > open command to open the file.
As varjak paw comments, there isn't a "winmac" so that's not telling us anything.
Note that it is possible that software purchased 6 years ago may no longer run on your computer. Once we know what it is we can help more.

As has been mentioned, the software in Mac OS X that supported the running of PPC applications rather than current Intel applications on Intel computers such as your MBP was last seen in Snow Leopard. However, since I believe your MBP originally came with Snow Leopard, you may be able to boot from the DVD's that came with the computer and install it on an external HD and try to install Quark on that.
I think a better solution would be to buy Snow Leopard Server from Apple by phone (800-692-7753 and be specific about wanting part # MC588Z/A), installing it as a virtual machine in software like VMware Fusion, and then installing Quark 6 in that. You'll still need a license number to authorize the Quark installation.

Hannahdb1 what specific Adobe applications are you attempting to reinstall? Do you receive any specific error messages? Finally what version of Mac OS are you using?

Question about using TVARV in an ABAP program

Hello gurus, Im sorry about the silly question.
I have a question about using TVARV in an ABAP program.
A program is presenting a problem and I think that in this code:
SELECT SIGN OPTI LOW HIGH
FROM TVARV
INTO TABLE R_1_163431035_VELOCIDADE
WHERE NAME = '1_163431035_VELOCIDADE'
AND    TYPE = 'S'.
IF ZMM001-VELOCIDADE_B   IN R_1_163431035_VELOCIDADE AND
      ZOPERADORAS-OPERADORA = 'ABCD' AND
      ZMM001-MATERIAL       IN R_1_163431035_PRODUTO.
ELSE.
ENDIF.
What happens is that the value "ZMM001-SPEED" B not exist in "R1_163431035_VELOCIDADE" but the program executes commands under the IF and not under the ELSE, as I imagine it would work. Is this correct ?
I am new to ABAP programming, but I have a lot of XP in other programming languages and this makes no sense to me.
Anyone know where I can find some documentation of the use of "TVARV" in ABAP programs?
I search the Internet if other programmers use TVARV this way, but found nothing, which leads me to think that was a quick and dirty solution that used here.
If this is a bad way to program, what would be the best way?

But in this case, the range is not empty, there are 17 records, in this way.:
For the column "SING" all values are "E"
It means that the result is false if ZMM001-VELOCIDADE_B has the same value as one of the 17 records (E = exclude).
For instance, if it has value 'C' and one of 17 records matches C, then the result is false.
The "IF" with "IN" using "TVARV" as used in the program of the post above has the same behavior of a selection screen?
Yes, the same behavior as the selection criterion to be exact. You can press the help key in the complex selection dialog for more info.
I know it's a silly and very basic question, but other language that I used, only the SQL has the "IN" operator, but I think they work in different ways, so I would like to understand how it works in ABAP.

Currently trying to install the silverlight program

currently trying to install the silverlight program onto my macbook pro to enable the computer to stream Netflix properly. I cannot fully install the program, silverlight continues to download as "silverlight.pkg" and tries to open itself with quicktime. I have already tried using Safari instead of Firefox and enabled certain quicktime response settings.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

It's looking for the 32 bit version of libgdk and finding the 64 bit one. What architecture are you using?

Question about using new battery in old Powerbook

I have a pre-intel Powerbook G4, and the battery is pretty much toast (lasts about 15 minutes now). I have ordered a new battery for it, and I have this question about using it:
Am I smarter to keep the new strong battery out of the PB most days (as I usually work with it plugged in at home) and just pop it in when I know I will be out surfing on batteries? Or is it just as good living in my laptop 24/7 and only occasionally being called upon to do its job?

Hi, Shereen. Every Powerbook battery wants to be used — drained and then recharged — at least every couple of weeks. If you've always used your Powerbook on AC power nearly all the time, and not followed that pattern of discharging and recharging the battery every week or two, it's possible that your use habits have shortened the lifespan and prematurely diminished the capacity of your old battery. Of course it's also possible that your battery is merely old, as a battery's capacity also diminishes with age regardless of how it's used. You didn't say how old the battery is in years, so this may or may not be an issue. I mention it only because it can be an issue.
For general information on handling a battery for the longest possible lifespan, see this article. My advice on the basis of that article and long experience reading these forums is that it would be OK to do as you propose, but I doubt that you'd derive any significant benefit from it. You would still want to be sure of putting the new battery through a charge/discharge cycle every week or two, even if you didn't have a reason to use the Powerbook away from home or your desk, because sitting unused outside the computer is just as bad for a battery as sitting unused inside it. And you should never remove the battery from your computer when it's completely or almost completely discharged and let it sit that way any longer than a day or two.

I am trying to install the newest Itunes program and get the following error.

I've tried several times including uninstalling itunes and restarting the process.
At one point I got an error 7 and downloaded and ran "dotNetFx40_Full-x86_64

Trying to install an Adobe program from CC (CC is on a network drive)

So I will try to explain this the best that I can. Under our Adobe license we have enough to cover all of the computers in our facilities. When we re-image computers it installs the basic Adobe programs that we need but some of the staff need other ones that we have access to but we install them on an as needed basis.
And this is where the problem arises. Most of the time we install programs from the remote desktop rather than going from office to office for convenience but whether we are in the office or over remote desktop we have been noticing that the programs will not install. We have the Creative Cloud install files on a network drive that we use for all of our other installs of Adobe programs but it seems that the ones in Creative Cloud just won't install.
To be more specific today we were trying to install InCopy and the installer would start, then it would prompt that it is going to need an update that would restart the system which we continued with, but then the progress bar would fill all the way and then the dialog box would disappear and nothing else would happen or the progress bar would go back down and then the dialogue box would go away. I do not usually install Adobe products but a coworker of mine that has been working with this problem says that it is all across the board when it comes to install anything in the Creative Cloud folder.
They say that it might have to do something with an update needed for Adobe that it just isn't installing or one within the Windows system; although I don't think that is the case since we are trying to install on different Windows OS machines (Windows 7 32/64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 8.1 64 bit).
So I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the subject or if anyone had any fixes.

You would need to user Adobe creative cloud packager which creates an installation package and deploy to users machines. i assume, you are installing Adobe creative cloud desktop app from a network drive which is not recommended.

Question about trying to set up my iphone 4s

I just got my iphone 4s and I have a question about setting it up.
I don't want to screw things up, especially in terms of the ios 5 setup.
I'm not sure if the 4s comes with ios5 pre-installed.
I had an iphone 3g that was stolen a few months ago, so the last time I used itunes to synch the phone it was a 3g and whatever ios it was able to use, which wasn't even the latest ios 4, if I recall correctly.
So, when I first turn on the 4s and connect it to itunes, will I be able to simply load up my contacts, photos and music without itunes messing it up because it's a 4s rather than a 3g?
Can I treat it as a completely new phone in tunes and yet still be able to load up the contacts, photos and music that are backed up there, or would I need to re-do these things from scratch?
The contacts are minimal, so it's not a big problem to do that, and I only had a few photos and small music playlists, so these aren't a problem either.
But I don't want itunes to mess me up if I just connect the 4s to it, but if it doesn't have ios 5 loaded, then I do want to upgrade to that.

hey guys, found a free solution to screen recording called pyvn2swf.
i downloaded it and i am not sure what to do as it has no installer file. i have ubuntu linux and i have compiled c programs with the terminal before, but never python and i have never compiled with the darwin terminal.

If all you need is a C compiler, the it is already there. gcc is a part of OSX. Python interpreters are included as well, though the version is a little old. If you need anything other than a compiler in terminal, then you should install the developer tools on your OSX dvd.
I totally agree about repositories. I just put ubuntu on about a dozen computers at work and quickly got addicted to Synaptec. As far as I can tell, it doesn't exist because of the difference in developer communities and the ease of installation on the mac.
