Question about unplugging unit

Hello.  I have an L540 ThinkPad unit.  While it was sitting in hibernate mode, I unplugged the power cord from the unit (not the wall outlet).  I noticed something that looked like a white flash come from the unit when I did this.  This has happened a few times already.  Is this normal, and if not, is it something that could damage the machine? Thanks in advance!

Hi there.  By pin, are you talking about the number of prongs on the plug?  If so, it's a 3 pin.  I'll check the connection, but I am hoping this doesn't indicate a more serious problem within the unit. The trouble is that this problem is hard to replicate.  What typically happens is that I will leave the laptop in hibernate mode for a while and it will charge, and if I pull the plug out, then I will see the white flash.  It looks like some kind of discharge of electricity.  If I plug it back in and then unplug it again, nothing happens. I want to mention too that recently, I was playing a game that is somewhat graphically intensive.  I noticed the computer was unplugged, so I plugged it in and the system basically froze.  The settings in the game went haywire and I had to go in and reset them all.  I assumed that maybe it decided to switch the refresh rate between 50 and 60 hz when I did that, but it was a very strange occurrence.

  • Questions about ABAP Unit (Integrate in class / encapsulate DB access)

    Hi,
    i have allready done some Unit Tests. Till this post i have created a report and put my test class definition / implementation there. The report is just a wrapper for testing. The functionallity is impelemented in classes.
    My first Question is how to integrate the test code in my class. In all examples they put the code beneath the class implementation. How do i get there? In se80 i can only see the public definition.
    The other question is about testing methods, which contains database access. How can i encapsulate the db access for tests. I read abput implementing a seperate class, which handles all db related actions.
    Bye Richard.

    Hello Richard,
    it is recommended to keep the domain code and the test code within the same program. Depending on the release in use a Class-Pool (program) offers an implementation include (for any local class) or possibly also a dedicaded test class include.
    Put the definition and the implementation of your unit test into one of this includes.
    In case your code under test has hard to test dependencies you need to break them. After the hard to test dependency (such as repository access) is separated it can be replaced by use of test doubles (see also http://www.xunitpatterns.com).
    Propably the following approach is the easiest one:
    - put any db access into a separate method
    - create a local subclass as test double that overwrites exactely the db access methods with test friendly code
    - run your unit test logic against this local test double
    The say "cleaner" way is to:
    - separate the db access to a dedicated repository service class (with instance methods of course).
    - create a test double of this repository class
    - use the technique "dependency injection" and run your test

  • Question about unplugging a TM drive...

    Quick question - I intend to backup using time machine on an external USB drive (WD elements 750 GB). Do i have to keep the drive plugged in and switched on whenever i use the computer? I have some music, pics and docs to be backed up, but don’t add or change them that often that i need to back them up regularly, so was thinking I use TM a couple of times a week. What would happen if i unplug the TM drive after a backup? Would TM initiate a full backup when i plug it back in, or just back up the changed files only? Should i switch off TM before unplugging the drive? What do people with laptops do? They can't keep the external drive plugged in all the time...
    Know this may be a silly question, but I'm a TM newbie, just testing Snow Leopard out before updating my Tiger systems.
    Thanks.

    No, you don't have to, but especially on your iMac, it's best to leave it on, plugged-in, and TM running. That's how TM is designed to work, and will protect you best. Once the lengthy first backup is done, subsequent hourly incremental backups are usually so quick and unobtrusive, you won't even notice them.
    What would happen if i unplug the TM drive after a backup?
    If you eject it first, there's no problem. If you just unplug it, OSX can't "close out" the disk properly, which can damage the backups.
    Would TM initiate a full backup when i plug it back in
    No, unless you wait many days (at least 10).
    Should i switch off TM before unplugging the drive?
    No. TM will just wait for the drive to become available.
    What do people with laptops do? They can't keep the external drive plugged in all the time...
    Many back-up wirelessly, to a Time Capsule.
    Others do what may work well for you; keep a drive attached to your iMac as mentioned above, then share that drive with your laptop, and let TM on the laptop back up to it wirelessly. That will be somewhat slower, of course, but still shouldn't be very obtrusive (after the first one). If you do that, I'd suggest partitioning the drive, so TM on each Mac has it's own, exclusive space. See #4 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.

  • Problem about temperature unit for SGL, LabVIEW 7.0 and 7.1

    A question about temperature unit for SGL and DBL, LabVIEW 7.0 and 7.1.
    The attachment is a test VI.
    From running the test.vi it shows that the temperature units Cdeg and degC are different (why?), and Cdeg and K seem to be same.
    For a SGL control in degC unit (i.e. "temperature 3" in frontpanel of test.vi), the default value can not set to zero. When set the default value to 0, it shows -6.10352E-6.
    The similar problem exists for the units Fdeg and degF.
    Could anyone please give me an explanation?
    Thank you,

    Cdeg is another way of saying "In degrees defined by the Celsuis scale starting from absolute zero". So it is the same as Kelvin.
    degC is another way of saying "In degrees defined by the Celsius scale starting from the freezing point of pure water at sea level".
    As for missing zero by a about six microdegrees, it is because when units are used, the values are always converted to base units. The base unit for tempurature is Kelvin. 0 degC just happens to be a bit off from what a computer can give for that many degrees Kelvin. I am not sure why it is changing your input, however.

    Make a Template for Objects and Object Id

  • Some questions about a Time Capsule

    Hi!!
    I just have a few questions about a Time Capsule, but first let me explain the backgroud to my questions.
    I live in a 2 floor house(including a basement) and my bedroom is downstairs. My parents currently have a desktop PC connected to our wireless router and our printer. Me and my step-father both have 13 inch MacBook Pros, and he uses the Mac like a basic computer, so the equipment connected to our PC is good for him. I, on the other hand, use my Mac, iPad and iPhone to their fullest potential. I am a SUPER MEGA NERD when it comes to computers, so I plan on making my bedroom an amazing office at the same time. So I want an AirPrint Enabled printer in my bedroom (Under 100$$) along with a Time Capsule to back up my information, because everyday I look around in the backdoor of my Mac alot, and if I jack anything up (And I cant handle the problem) I would like to restore my Mac to a previous version. So here are my questions:
    1) My bedroom is right underneath our router, so i get GREAT Wi-Fi in my room. If I get a Time Capsule, can I use it in my room to extend my Wi-Fi, and how would that work? Will it extend my wifi under the same name, because I would like my own Wi-Fi (Titled to what I want with my own password)
    2) If I have to create a NEW Wi-Fi network, how would I do that?
    3) Would I need to connect my new printer directly to my ROUTER, or could I connect it to the TIME CAPSULE?
    If you don't understand what I'm trying to ask (Even though I feel like it's self-explanatory)
    ONE question about the PRINTER: Do any of you have any recommendations for an AirPrint Enabled printer under 100$? Even under-150$ would be okay.
    THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!!

    everyday I look around in the backdoor of my Mac alot, and if I jack anything up (And I cant handle the problem) I would like to restore my Mac to a previous version. So here are my questions:
    Don't just depend on TM.. use a disk image type utility.. either one of the Mac tools, SuperDuper, CCC, Chronosync or even a linux boot cd (if you have a cd/dvd drive still or via usb can boot) a great tool is Clonezilla.. it will do basically any computer, Mac, Linux, Windows.. and since it boots into its own OS can restore a computer in a flash. Then you can add the incremental changes from TM.
    Actually I am surprised you get good wireless as usually directly above or below a router is often the worst spot. Time Capsule cannot extend the wireless of any other router than Apple.. it is a special system and only Apple can join the club. It has bad effect though, if you set the TC to extend wireless it turns off ethernet ports.. which is hugely dumb.
    The best arrangement is ethernet to the upstairs.. or EOP adapters. If not then a wireless router that matches the existing unit will generally be better than mixing apple and non-apple.
    2) If I have to create a NEW Wi-Fi network, how would I do that?
    3) Would I need to connect my new printer directly to my ROUTER, or could I connect it to the TIME CAPSULE?
    You create a new wireless network by selecting manually the wireless channel and use different wireless name, ssid and security. There are 3 available channels on 2.4ghz.. your existing router will use one or two.. depending on if the setting is 20mhz or 40mhz.. so you need to manually set everything and not use auto.
    TC is slow on 2.4ghz cf 5ghz and there are many more channels at 5ghz but not everything can use it.. iphone for instance is 2.4ghz only . whereas ipad can use 5ghz.. most full computers now can use 5ghz.
    Buy a wireless network printer. Or alternatively an ethernet network would be also ok but now are more expensive than wireless ones. Network printers are not much more than straight USB and work much better.
    I do not use airprint so have nothing to offer.. find the best HP model in your budget.. but others may have had more experience.. I use ethernet connected b/w laser business type HP.. they work great.. but airprint is too recent an innovation for me.

    I have a Macbook Pro june 2011... I have 8GB ram but I only have 256mb VRAM...
    I've read some other questions about this and I realized... Why do I not have 560mb of VRAM since I have 8GB of RAM?
    Is there any way to get more VRAM to play games on steam?
    I've learned  by reading other topics that I can't upgrade my graphics card on my Macbook Pro because it's soldered into the motherboard or somthing like that, but please tell me if there is any way to get more video ram by chaning some setting or upgrading something else. I'd also like to know why I only have 256MB of VRAM when I have 8GB of RAM, since I have 8GB of RAM I thought I was supposed to have 560mb of VRAM...
    So the two questions are...
    Is there any way to upgrade my VRAM, so that I can play games on steam?
    Why do I only have 256MB VRAM when I have 8GB total RAM?
    Other Info:
    I have a quad core i7 Processor.
    My graphcics card is the AMD Radeon HD 6490M.
    I am also trying to play games on my BOOTCAMPed side of my mac, or my Windows 7 Professional side.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH IF YOU CAN REPLY,

    The only two items that a user can change on a MBP are the RAM and HDD (Retinas not included).  You have what the unit came with and the only way you will be able to change that is to purchase a MBP with superior graphics
    If you are very much into gaming, the I suggest A PC.  They are far superior for that type of application to a MBP.

  • Few questions about Lenovo G550

    Hello, I plan to buy an inexpensive laptop, propably it will be a Lenovo G550L but I got few questions about this model. Here are my questions:
    1. What 320GB hard disks are mounted inside G550L, Western Digital, Seagate or Hitachi (exact model if possible)?
    2. How are the hinges of LCD screen in this model, cause they look pretty weak. Do they break easy, does anyone got any experience with this type of hinges which are "forward type" instead of normal?
    2. I have noticed that there are two types of laptop chassis in this model one is matte black and another is grey glare. How to determine which model has which finish? Which finish got laptops with T4300, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Intel IGP x4500, no card reader, no hdmi.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    my friend samsung any net, toshiba regza link, panasonic viera link is their special TM to support CEC
    but just for their product not  other products,for instance a samsung dvd player and a samsung lcd can sync easily with with hdmi cable
    and in this case you dont need an extra remote control to control dvd besides tv.just with having a remote you can control both of them or the other audio visual products from that campany
    please think???? how could you control your lenovo when it does not have a remote?
    every device need to send signals to the remote not by just some wires like HDMI
    lcd has  a  remote and a dvd player also has a remote and if those are from a unit company,they share a common signal with HDMI cable ,then you could control both of them with just one remote.
    this can ease your work,as you dont need a lot of remote around your devices
    but they should be from just a unit producer cause they uses different protocols
    and of course they want to sell their various products and oblige you to buy other products from that producer to have the compability for having just one remote.

  • A question about screen updation of T61

    Hi there
    I got a question about screen updation.
    Currently, my T61's screen is 14.1 XGA TFT 1028x768, and it can't work, thus I am considering to replace it with the better 14.1" SXGA+ LCD SCREEN .
    However, I am a little concerned about the compatiblility problem, hence I just wonder whether the new SXGA+ screen can fit for my current T61 laptop or not?? Thanks a lot for your answers!
    Regards
    Peng

    you can buy it from IBM parts, and it will then sure to work for your laptop.
    Here is the manual that shows you how and what parts you need:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67979.html
    P.S. If you have warranty this upgrade will void your remaining laptop warranty, as the LCD is not CRU (customer replaceable unit).

  • Question about LRU in a replicated cache

    Hi Tangosol,
    I have a question about how the LRU eviction policy works in a replicated cache that uses a local cache for its backing map. My cache config looks like this:
    <replicated-scheme>
    <scheme-name>local-repl-scheme</scheme-name>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <scheme-ref>base-local-scheme</scheme-ref>
    </local-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    </replicated-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <scheme-name>base-local-scheme</scheme-name>
    <eviction-policy>LRU</eviction-policy>
    <high-units>50</high-units>
    <low-units>20</low-units>
    <expiry-delay/>
    <flush-delay/>
    </local-scheme>
    My test code does the following:
    1. Inserts 50 entries into the cache
    2. Checks to see that the cache size is 50
    3. Inserts 1 additional entry (as I understand it, this should cause the eviction logic to kick-in)
    4. Checks the cache size again, expecting it to now be 20
    With HYBRID and LFU eviction policies, the above logic works exactly as expected. When I switch to LRU however, the code at step 2 always returns a value significantly less than 50. All 50 inserts appear to complete successfully, so I can only assume that some of the entries have already been evicted by the time I get to step 2.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Pete L.
    Addendum:
    As usual, in attempting to boil this issue down to its essential elements, I left out some details that turned out to be important. The logic that causes the condition to occur looks more like:
    1. Loop 2 times:
    2. Create named cache instance "TestReplCache"
    3. Insert 50 cache entries
    4. Verify that cache size == 50
    5. Insert 1 additional entry
    6. Verify that cache size == 20
    7. call cache.release()
    8. End Loop
    With this logic, the problem occurs on the second pass of the loop. Step 4 reports a cache size of < 50. This happens with LRU, LFU, and HYBRID-- so my initial characterization of this problem is incorrect. The salient details appear to be that I am using the same cache name each pass of the loop and that I am calling release() at the end of the loop. (If I call destroy() instead, all works as expected.)
    So... my revised question(s) would be: is this behavior expected? Is calling destroy() my only recourse?
    Message was edited by: planeski

    Robert,
    Attached are my sample code and cache config files. The code is a bit contrived-- it's extracted from a JUnit test case. Typically, we wouldn't re-use the same cache name in this way. What caught my eye however, was the fact that this same test case does not exhibit this behavior when running against a local cache directly (as opposed to a repl cache backed by a local cache.)
    Why call release? Well, again, when running this same test case against a local cache, you have to call release or it won't work. I figured the same applied to a repl cache backed by a local cache.
    Now that I understand this is more a byproduct of how my unit tests are written and not an issue with LRU eviction (as I originally thought), it's not a big deal-- more of a curiosity than a problem.

  • Question about Tasklists

    I have a weird question about task lists.
    lets assume I created a task list for a user and enering values in to a data form is one of the task and promoting the planning unit is the next step.
    and assume the user has gone through the tasks and completed entering the values and promoted and marked the tasks as complete.
    Now, I am the reviewer and review the values and promoted it back to him to change a few values where I am not satisfied.
    How does the user knows if he has to re-enter the values again? but the tasks in that tasklist shows the tasks has been completed.
    I am missing something or assuming it wrong. Can some one give me a clear picture idea about it. Appreciate your help.
    TIA
    sai

    Hi,
    Users get notification e-mails in which they would see annotation from previous plan unit owner if there is any. They could then know that they have to re-enter/adjust/amend some of the values. As for task lists, I usually recommend to users not to use complete box as it using it leads the same confusion you fell into. Task list completion status does not certainly serve to the purpose very well, so better stay away...
    What I can tell about workflow is that with good training and sensible security configuration, workflow works almost perfectly in many places.
    Cheers,
    Alp
