Question about upgrading HW in an existing roaming network...

I have a roaming network with the following configuration:
First Generation AirPort Extreme (i.e., first square model) acting as the base station connected to my DSL modem. I have a First Generation Airport Express connected to the Extreme via cable acting as a roaming network. This Express extends my network as a roaming network and also provides wireless printing. I also have another First Generation Airport Express joining the same WiFi network (i.e., with the Extreme) to run AirTunes.
For years, this has worked just fine. However, my Express (set up as a roaming network) keeps needing to be reset once a week (by unplugging and plugging back in). I have tried everything to correct this rather new problem. I suspect that it is either interference, the Express is now faulty, or (long shot) my MacBook Pro which is really old is causing some interruption with the Express (it loses it connection a couple times a week, yet all my other Macs don't. And, it had its first Kernel Panic last week). I am getting a new MBP any day as it needed to be updated anyway.
So I am wondering if I can swap out the Express (i.e., the one in roaming) with a new Extreme. I'd like to set up the Extreme in N-mode (something I have not been able to do with my current Extreme since I had b/g Expresses. I would also like to move to 5 Ghz to help minimize interference. That said, do I need to also replace the Express that is used for AirTunes to allow N-mode and 5 GHz??? Or, could I connect the older Express to my Extreme via cable and have AirTunes, while running a 5 GHz N-mode WiFi?
Also, I understand the new Extremes simultaneously run at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Does that mean I am running two WiFis or one WiFi being broadcase on two frequencies? I would want to enjoy 5 GHz, but still have my iPhone connect to the WiFi.

As you are aware, your iPhone will not connect to a 5GHz network and neither will your old Express...
I don't see any need to update this unit as this time if you are just streaming music using Airplay...
However, if you want to spend the money, you could buy a new Airport Express to replace the older "g" version.
I'm sure others here will have other ideas...
If I were to do this set up (i.e., have the old Extreme replace the old Express, and have the new Extreme be the new base station), would the old "AirTunes" Express be able to join the new Extreme simultaneous 2.4/5GHz network because it is connecting to it vis-a-vis 2.4 GHz? In other words, this would elimate the need to directly plug the old "AirTunes" Express directly into the new Extreme... correct?
Also, I assume that the new Extreme (via USB) can do the wireless printing like I currently use the old roaming Express for. Is that right?

Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?

to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.

I a several questions about upgrading APEX.
I want to upgrade my APEX 2.0 to 2.2 and hopefully in a few month to 3.0.

What would happen to my applications?
Would there be any problems about the applications when the APEX version is upgraded to another version?

Yes there is (detailed) upgrade documentation provided with the upgrade itself, which you should definitely look through. The 2.2 and 2.2.1 releases are currently available here -

You applications will be 'upgraded' as part of the upgrade process (i.e. they will continue to work with the new software once the upgrade is complete).

Question about upgrade and original iPhone

There might be other thread already, but have a question about upgrade to 3G.
I have the original iPhone and have upgraded to iPhone 3G.
The question is whether I can use the original iPhone indefinitely.
People at Apple store was telling me I can use the original iPhone (without the phone functionality) as long as I don't restore the firmware.
Is this true? What happens if Apple releases firmware in the future? Would this mean that I can only use this as long as machine doesn't require restore? I wanted to give it to one of my family members so she can use it as iPod so any info would be helpful ....

My understanding is the same as the Apple Store Employee.
If you try to update the software on an iphone with no service, I believe that it will be rendered useless.
It may be possible to swap the SIM card for software upgrades, etc., not sure.

Ive got the new MSI gt60 0ND with 750GB HD and 675 Ge-Force GTX , anyways to the bottom line.
I would like to Upgrade my computer with SSD that I bought and install the win8 on it, in order to speed things up, but I have encountered a few problems..
1. there is no sticker on the back of the computer that gives information about the serial number of my windows 8...
2. lets say in some magical way I could get the serial number out, can I use it to reinstall ? because Ive heard that you cannot use this CD key anyways unless you got a special win8 installation CD key from MSI because its MSI branded windows 8.
am I screwed ? ?? ? I thought it is possible to upgrade with SSD but it seems like MSI made it very hard, I do not understand why they even putted the warranty void sticker on the expansion bay's .... WEIRD..

In export and import mode
1.can we have new name for the target database,
2.I think we need to create tablespaces ,do we need to create users as well
3.If we are upgrading from 9i to 10g database ,any activity to be perfromed other than creating a new sysaux tablespace
4.How come we get consistent export
In DBUA mode ( in the same machine only)
1.Do we need shutdown / startup restrict the database
2.How can we move the files to the new location
3.Can we change db_name of the database
4.Can we use the old database as well
In manual upgration using catupgrd scripts
1.Can we rename the db_name
2.can we use old database as well
3.how to move the database files to the new location
4.can we perform this kind of upgrade on a different server

Another question about upgrading RAM on G4 iMac

I know that there are numerous threads on this forum about upgrading RAM and I am sorry to have to open another one but, having read many of them, I am still confused!
I have unopened copies of Leopard and ILife 08 that I am planning to install on my 17-inch 1GHz G4 iMac with 768 MB of RAM (256 MB in the factory slot and 512 MB in the user accessible slot). I know that this model does not support all the functions of these programs but I am currently running Panther and the very first iLife so I think it's time for an upgrade!
Apple states that this model supports up to 1GB RAM so I have been thinking that in order to get the best out of the new software I should upgrade to 1GB RAM. My questions are:
1. Do I need to upgrade or is the existing RAM of 768 MB likely to be sufficient?
2. If I upgrade, how easy is it to add RAM to the factory slot? I have searched but can find no instructions on this here or on the Apple website which implies that this is not recommended.
3. Several threads on this forum seem to suggest that, in order to avoid having to mess with the factory slot, it is possible to put 1GB RAM in the user accessible slot and leave the factory slot well alone, resulting in total RAM greater than the maximum recommended by Apple. Is this correct or have I misunderstood?

That will probably be sufficient. You could always install and run both Leopard and iLife '08 and see if you feel that they are working OK before buying any RAM.

Apple does not post the directions because this is not considered something that a user can do by themselves.

That is correct. You could replace the 512 MB in the user accessible slot with 1 GB to provide a total RAM of 1.256 GB.

A question about upgrades and mroe upgrades

I've got a question about the upgrade sequence and costs thereof
I have CS5.5 Production Premium. Suppose I upgrade to CS6 production Premium. If, when CS6.5 comes out and I decided to upgrade, would it be considered an upgrade from 5.5 or 6 for pricing purposes?
I presume the older the software the more expensive the upgrade but if I'm upgrading from my CS6 upgrade would it be considered an upgrade from CS5.5 9the original suite) or an upgrade from CS6?

You have a CS5.5 now. Now, you upgrade to CS6.
When CS6.5 come out. It will be considered as an upgrade from CS6 (and not CS5.5 which is your original suite). Hope this is clear

Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
Current Exchange Server details:
Exchange 2010 Standard
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
The questions I have are:
1. Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
2. Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
3. Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:

And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.

My customer wants to upgrade EBS from 12.1.1 to 12.1.3.
He has questions about module OTL and AGIS.
He wants to know:
1. Apply OTL&AGIS on 12.1.1, then upgrade to 12.1.3
2. Upgrade 12.1.3, finish all post upgrade of 12.1.3, then apply patch to add OTL&AGIS module
Which one should be correct?
If neither of them, please advise.
Also, please post the note/doc number.

Questions about upgrade path to 7.0

Dear Experts
We are having a pre-project for our customers regarding upgrading their existing CRM 4.0 SP06 landscape (using Mobile Sales scenario) to 7.0 SR1.
I've understood that we need to do this upgrade in two steps:
1. Upgrade to CRM 5.0 (because of CDB upgrade)
2. Upgrade to CRM 7.0
What I would like to know is; Is it necessary to upgrade our whole CRM Landscape (middleware + mobile sales components) to CRM 5.0 before we upgrade to 7.0, or can we upgrade just the CRM online server to the 5.0 version, do the CDB upgrade. Then again upgrade it from 5.0 to 7.0 (including CDB)
Then we can upgrade the rest of the mobile components to 4.0 SP14 before we upgrade them to 7.0?
Also, if our customers wants to skip using Mobile Sales in the new release (just use CRM online with the new WebGUI), is there a job/document that describes how we clean up the CDB (since it is not in use in such a scenario)?

Why can't someone from apple answer my question about upgrading to the current version of Itunes

I am amazed that I have been posting questions for months about this issue and no one has given me an answer!!!! Does Apple not track these discussions?
I have Windows 7 64-bit and am trying to upgrade Itunes to the current version, with no suggestions.
I have found and tried the 64-bit installer and receive the following message:
'This itunes installed is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows. Please download and install 64-bit Itunes installer instead.'
I have itunes 9.1.1.12 currently installed.

Okay ... it's behaving just like the PC Mover thing. 32-bit versions of iTunes and AMDS have somehow been jammed on the PC. When you go to uninstall either of them, the 64-bit Windows installer service encounters 32-bit installation configuration information, goes into a fantod, and you get the error message.
So we'd better try clearing away that installation configuration information, and then trying another update.
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Question about upgrading to Motion 3

I recently purchased the Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade. I've been reading the forum and I've seen people having problems with Motion 3, specifically on Macbook Pros but on other machines as well. I was planning on buying the upgrade anyway but I specifically bought it this week because of an audio bug (missing audio on QT export-see one of my other posts) that was fixed in Motion 3 that affects the project I am currently working on. I have 2 computers that this would be installed on. A Mackbook Pro 2GHz core duo and a Mac Pro dual 3.0 GHz Xeon. Both of these are up to date on software updates. I've read that there was a MBP update that really caused a problem for Motion 3 that seems to only be fixed by a clean system install. My question is what is the best way I should go about installing the upgrade, specifically for Motion? Should I wait to install it on my MBP until Apple releases a fix for the problem? Will it install fine on my Mac Pro? Basically, I'm looking for the best way to install that will lead to the least amount of problems? Thanks

I beg to differ on that...I have a Mac Pro Quad 3GHz with 8Gigs of RAM and the X1900 card and Motion crashes very often. I have not been able to export anything with 3D elements to completion. The software crashes whenever you have more than a few lights and layers going on...it's very frustrating. I have done everything possible to avoid these bugs, including re-installing OSX before upgrading to FCPS2, and I even did that twice.
Motion still has quite a few bugs...and they are more than just an annoyance.

Such questions were posted many times here in the Toshiba forum and there is only one answer;
Its not possible to upgrade the graphic card on any notebooks!!!!!
The GPU is mostly soldered and fixed on the motherboard and its impossible to remove it!!!
You ask for various options? Well I read about external graphic cards for notebooks but in my opinion this is not a real option and dont think the performance of such graphic card would be much better as your internal graphic card in the P200 notebook
