Question about /var/lock/subsys/dbora

Hello,
I've been having a problem where ./dbora stop is not completely shutting down the database. I've done some debigging and discovered that this is because there is no /var/lock/subsys/dbora file. I've seen this file created in a lot of sample dbora scripts, ie
touch /var/lock/subsys/dbora
My question is why is this? Why does the file not get created when Oracle is started?
I'm on Oracle 10G.

dbstart and dbshut are oracle supplied files which we use to start and stop the database. We create a small shell script which get placed in rc.d and that file called those dbstart/shut files to start and stop oracle services at boot time. "touch /var/lock/subsys/dbora" is an extra login which WE put in our shell script and it should not have any relation with starting and stopping the services. It totally depends on the shell script written by the DBA. I have this piece of code in my startup script and I can see this file on my system but even if i can't its not going to stop working.
You first of all make sure what permission do you have on /var/lock/subsys

ok,
this touch in dbora is solely used for dbora. The dbora script will later on remove the file after stop database.

Question about DB lock level

From the manual we can only select row level locking / table level locking ( LockLevel=0/1)
Can I make it don't lock at all for READ only DB?

Through configuration you can select row level locking (LockLevel=0, the default) or database level locking (LockLevel=1). Datase level locking locks the entire database in eXclusive mode for every transaction and so effectively serialises access to the entire database. Table level locking can be influenced only by using optimiser hints and in general you mostly will only actually see table level locks if you use SERIALIZEABLE isolation.
What is it that you want to accomplish? It's not 100% clear to me from your original question?

Questions about activation locks? Help?

Okay so I bought an iphone 5 off kijiji and everything is fine so far but I have a few questions. It says "SIM required" and I don't have a SIM card yet as I'm getting one next week. I'm not sure if it's activation locked. My questions is Does the activation lock alert pop up before it asks for SIM? Or after when I've put in my SIM?
Hopefully that makes sense because I don't have a SIM yet and I don't know how else to check if its activation locked. Please reply.

It checks for activation lock when you attempt to activate the phone with a SIM card in it.

Quick question about Auto-lock settings

Hello all,
I recently was able to sync my office email account to my iPhone using Microsoft Exchance active sync. The problem as I understand from searching through different posts, is that I can no longer set my Auto-lock setting to "Never" because of this, only 5 minutes (sort of a security thing as far as I can tell).
The reason I am trying to do this is that I like to use one or two of the GPS golf apps out there, and they stay dialed in if the phone doesn't "sleep" while I am playing a round, so I would like to keep it on the entire time.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I might be able to work around this issue in any way?

More than likely, you could not simply delete the account. The thing is that the people who came up with the security protocols already thought of that. As an employee using a company cell phone, I could delete my account, access features or information my company restricts and then readd the account, thus bypassing security protocols.
In addition, I might have other sensitive company information (in the form of contacts, documents, notes, etc) that would still be on the phone even if I delete my exchange account. Without autolock, people would still have access to this data even if I delete the account.
To prevent this type of abuse, when an exchange account is added, it installs a set of restrictions and protocols to the phone. Those protocols can, at the discretion of IT, be non alterable and non removable, even when the exchange account is deleted. This prevents people from abusing the loophole you are describing.
Similarly, simply switching to another email account will not bypass them - these protocols are now part of how your phone acts and can not be changed without wiping it back to factory settings.

Question about object lock

Hello everyone,
I want to know which method owns the lock of a specific object (some of my methods are blocked because they can not achieve the lock of a specific object, and I am wondering which method owns the lock to solve the deadlock issue). Does anyone know how to get the information?

U should not think of a method as having a lock,
rather than that u should think of a piece of
synchronized code to have the lock on an object.
U should try and find nested synchronization
statements in your code, those are risky and can lead
to deadlocks.

N8: question about screen lock during calling

I really like my N8 but there's annoying thing. While I'm calling, in the most cases the screen turns on and with my face I press the buttons on it. So I always end my calls unwantedly or turn on the speakers...
Is there any solution for that? I've not found any settings or software for that yet.

Sounds like the proximity sensor is faulty on your phone. You should have it checked out at your local Nokia Care point.

About pessimistick lock in Oracle

Hello,
I have some questions about pessimistick lock in Oracle:
I know if i do a SELECT..FOR UPDATE statement, those records are locked, and just me can opperate on them.. but me - WHO? How i'm identified in Oracle? If i do a SELECT..FOR UPDATE select in an A procedure, then i call the update procedure B, how can i know that both calls belongs to the same user? If someone tries to update the same records, how the server knows if that person is allowed to make those updates or not? because everyone uses the same connection string.. isn't it?
Probably it works if i make a SELECT..FOR UPDATE and i make the effective update in that procedure, but this means that the Business Logic is in that procedure..
Please correct me if i'm wrong somewhere and clarify me.

i would like to ask about the lock switch for smart phones like Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic or Nokia 5230.
Will the lock switch loosen if we always slide to unlock it?

I am an HP employee.

My HP, purchased in June 2012, died on Saturday. I was working in recently installed Photoshop, walked away from my computer to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was blank. When I turned it on, I got a Windows Error Recovery message. The computer was locked and wouldn't let me move the arrow keys up or down and hitting f8 didn't do anything.
I'm not happy with HP. Any suggestions?

Questions about Contracts and New Phones

I've had some questions about how upgrading and adding new lines to a contract works and I haven't been able to find the answers through Google. First some background information: We started this most recent contract in September of 2011 and as such the current contract will end September of 2013. According to the phone information portal, all three of the devices on my account will be eligible for an upgrade this Saturday (May 4th, 2013). My daughters birthday just so happens to coincide with that date and as such we were planning on surprising her by taking her to buy a new phone and we are going to allow our son to upgrade his phone as he has been asking to for a while.
Is there any way of locking/limiting the amount of data allowed for each phone on a shared plan? I'm worried that my daughter will go way over our limit and not pay attention to the point where she will end up costing us a very large amount of money
Does adding a new line require the start of a new contract?
My son was interested in purchasing the "Samsung Galaxy S4" and has noticed that pre-orders for that phone are currently available. Is it possible to pre-order the phone on that date using the upgrade so that the price will be reduced?
If the answer to number 2 is a no, does adding the new line take away the upgrades from other phones or would he be able to go to the store past the release date and upgrade then?

1. Yes. There is an additional fee per line you wish to do this for. When you add the line you can choose this option and set the data amount it is allowed to use.
2. Yes. Each line is a separate contract with its own expiration date.
3. The contract starts when you sign up for the contract. The amount will be pro-rated on the plan if it is not started until part-way through your billing cycle that is what you are asking. Doing the pre-order just guarantees you the phone in case they sell out.
4. No it will not take any upgrades away as each line has its own termination date. You can move upgrades around between lines though.

Newbie question about loading servlets on tomcat

I have what is probably a very basic question about loading simple servlets on to tomcat to test its installation. I have followed instructions from numerous tutorials to the letter but still I can't get it to work.
I have installed tomcat on win2k in c:\tomcat. I set up the jdk, environment vars (JAVA_HOME, CATALINA_HOME, TOMCAT_HOME) which all point at the correct dirs. I can compile a servlet without errors. I can also place a test jsp and html file into the root directory and they both work fine.
However, now I am trying a test servlet and no matter what I do it gives me a 404. I have a servlet class file called "HelloServlet.class" which I placed into the %install_dir%\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes directory. I try to reference it using this url:
http://localhost/servlet/HelloServlet
Tomcat is configured to use port 80 and has been restarted after adding the servlet class file. Does anyone have a clue why this is not working for me?

You have to add in the web.xml file that it is in the WEB-INF dir, the information about your servlet. An example:

Question about Percent Function

This kinda goes along with my question about the plus sign. That was answered by the fact it means there is more than can be displayed in the field with the plus sign. The problem I am having is all of the fields with the plus sign are formated to be PERCENT. These fields are filled in via the C# program. The values are calculated in the C# program and outputed to the PDF form in the form of 00.00 - 100.00. Thus if I am filling in these fields with values that are within a PERCENT range, then why are they showing a plus sign. I have even go as far as to wipe the field clean, re-do the Text box, re-format as PERCENT, with the text centered, and the No Calculation radio button set true. The only other thing I do these fields is set the FONT to 10 point or otherwise the huge in size.

it is correct that the incoming value to a fillable field for a PERCENT must be between 0 and 1 BUT this is NOT the complete answer.
If I filled the field with 33.33 then it will display 33.33 + which says the display is too big.
If I filled the field with .3333 thin it will display .3333 without the PLUS sign, but is still not correct because the FORMAT is set to PERCENT.
What I had to do is add the following JAVA script.

Now if the input is .3333 the display is now 33.33% which is correct. Sense the JAVA Script is basicly a NOP, this tells me that the PERCENT format requires some kind of trigger. Sense a FILL is NOT a trigger, the display comes out incorrect.
