Question about what computer I should get.

I'm looking for a new computer that would be able to run http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/design.edu.html. Does it matter what type of computer I get?

The link takes you to a suite.  Inside you'll see it includes PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign and few other goodies.
Looking at Photoshop, you can see what it requires...
Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon® 64 processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 3; Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (Service Pack 2 recommended); or Windows 7
1GB of RAM
1GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash storage devices)
1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card, 16-bit color, and 256MB of VRAM
Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
DVD-ROM drive
QuickTime 7.6.2 software required for multimedia features
Broadband Internet connection required for online services and to validate Subscription Edition (if applicable) on an ongoing basis*

Indesign likes
Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon® 64 processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended); Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1; or Windows 7
1GB of RAM (2GB recommended)
1.6GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash storage devices)
1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with 16-bit video card
DVD-ROM drive
Adobe® Flash® Player 10 software required to export SWF files

  • Question about what the content should be for a database standards document

    Hi Experts,
I am working as development DBA in a J2EE project and have a task to create a database standards document. The document should be used as a reference by the developers when they submit requests for database changes - like adding or making changes to the database schemas (adding tables/modifying them etc.). I thought of what would be the right content for this type of standards document and I think that such a document should have the following as database standards:
    1) Naming standards for the database objects.
This will include all database objects like tables, columns, primary keys, foreign keys, views, triggers, procedures etc.. For example a standard can be defined like: all primary keys should be named as PK_TABLENAME. All indexes should be named as <TABLE_NAME>_IDX01 etc.
    2) Use of Oracle reserved words should be avoided in the schema object names.
    3) The names should be descriptive so as to make their purpose self evident.
    4) Wherever possible, tables should have primary keys.
    5) Wherever possible columns should be defined NOT NULL -as it helps performance (Indexes on NULLABLE columns are not used by the optimizer).
    6) When submitting request for a new table/tables, typical queries against these new tables should also be worked out and based on that indexes that will be needed for the new tables should be defined. In case this is not clear at the time of initial table creation, it should be clarified within 3 weeks (just a reasonable period to be mentioned here).
Is this fair enough content forthe standards document or does it miss some important aspects? Note that we do not have to cover in this document standards for database creation or RAC installation etc. It is a document of standards to be followed by developers as a reference when submitting database changes. I will be thankful for your review.
(Oracle version info: We are on Oracle 11.2.0.2 on Solaris 10.)
    Thanks,

That isn't true - post a link that supports that statement.
Heap indexes do not INDEX null values but indexes on NULLABLE columns are most certainly used by the optimizer for use cases where your query is looking for non-null values.
Columns should be defined NOT NULL when your business requirement is that the column should ALWAYS have a value. You can, of course, adopt some standard default value (e.g. 'U' for unknown) and make an otherwise NULLABLE column NOT NULL so that each row WILL be indexed. That may only be useful if you want to be able to search for rows that have that value and those rows are in the minority. Then I must be wrong....I will modify the standard as:
    5) Whenever the business requirement is such that the column will allways end up having a value , then all such columns should be defined as NOT NULL. Also if a column can be defined to have a default value then this default value should also be specified.
Hope this is more proper then earlier and thanks a lot for the review!!

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane  and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox)

  • Looking to get a mac for fall semester, have a few questions on which one I should get.

Hello everyone, this is the first time im posting here and i hope i can get some help. Im in the need of a new computer; I have been wanting a mac for a long time and i figured since im a junior in college that i should get myself something decent to finish school with. Any who i have been thinking about getting a refurbished mac for a while now, to me saving a few bucks is always a plus. I was just wondering though, do you guys think i should get one of those older products or maybe get one of the newer models just announced at wwdc? I had my eye out on a macbook pro, but the air has also been looking really nice. Im really having a tough time trying to decide which one i want get. This will be my main computer btw, and i currently do have an iphone and ipad 2 to go along with it. Here are the notebooks i was considering and also i usually will not be carrying it around campus that much.
    macbook pro 13in http://http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD313LL/A
    macbook air 13in http://http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC965LL/A
    macbook air 11in http://http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC969LL/A
Hopefully you guys can help me out, im really looking forward to owning a mac. If it wasnt for the os, i wouldnt be considering one, but i just fell in love with it when one of my high school teachers was showing some of the things he could do with his mac. Also if anyone has any other suggestions, please tell me, im all up for new ideas.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you... gonna be using it as my primary computer, graduating college soon, and my first mac. I'll be going with the 13 inch MacBook Air.
The Pro and the Air are nearly identical performance-wise and so that means the only advantage of the Pro is the storage space (unless you count the cd drive as an advantage). The Air is way more portable and has a better display, I don't know about you but my current cd drive rarely gets used so might as well get rid of it.
I have also compared them side-by-side in the store and that was really what won me over to the Air. The 11-inch Air was there too but the screen just seems too small, especially if you are doing work/writing essays etc.
    Hope that helped

  • Question About what Azure Services I should be using for mobile app with website.

    Hello,
I am wondering what Azure service would be best for my new application. I need to have an SQL database that I can connect to and modify from both a website and a mobile app preferably WP8 and Android. I was not really understanding whether I would need a
mobile service or normal SQL database. Which should I use or am I completely off track?
    Thanks,
    Matthias

Mobile Services uses SQL Database, nothing special on that SQL Database, its just like any other  "normal" SQL Database.
Mobile Services provides "back-end services" that simplifies accessing SQL Database, Notification services, authentication, etc...
Let's assume you don't use Mobile Services, to use SQL Database, you would need your app (both mobile and web) to connect to the database. In practice, you will not want to expose your SQL database directly, so you'd end-up writing some kind of a "facade"
that your app will access instead of directly connecting to the database.
Instead of writing that "facade", Mobile services provides that for you (you still have to write code though, but less than what you need to write if you're rolling your own).
Both your web app and mobile apps can share the same SQL database (pay attention to the mobile service schema).
To help you decide, ask yourself what other features will your mobile app require? Authentication? Notification? etc... are you prepared to write those on your own or use various libraries instead of one?

  • Virtualbox question about what happsns "after" updating kernel. SOLVED

I had virtual box working (64bit) from puel/aur perfectly... then there was a kernel update and then when i went to bootup the virtual machine (the virtualbox gui worked fine), the VM screen went black and the entire computer/mouse froze solid, had to do a hard reboot..
was there or should I ask "is there" a command i should re-issue after the kernel updates? i'm thinking it has something to do with the virtualbox kernel module.. but i'm not sure..
i've read the info about virtualbox in the wiki... couldnt find much based on what i'm trying to ask in here..
any help/suggestions would be most appreciated..
    thanks

When you installed aur/virtualbox_bin, the following post-install message was displayed:
Run "vbox_build_module" as root every time your kernel is upgraded, to compile the module for the new kernel version.
You can confirm this by checking your pacman log and/or by reading /var/lib/pacman/local/virtualbox_bin-<version>/install.

  • I have very thin, colored lines running vertical on my desktop monitor screen.  I don't know where they come from or how to get rid of them.  I started with one and now have three.  Can anyone give me some insight about what to do in getting rid of them?

I have very thin, colored lines that have shown up on my IMac monitor screen.  I don't know where they came from or how to get rid of them.  I'm concerned now because I started with one and now have three.  Does any know why this occurs or how to get rid of them?

I got an address from Applecare, although I can't place my hand on it right now. I didn't bother persuing the letter route myself as I didn't expect much. I know that the location was Cork, Ireland though as that where the UK Applecare is based as far as I'm aware. The best thing to do is to call Applecare (if it's free) and discuss the issue. State that you are not happy wit the fact that you will have to pay to have the problem resolved especiiay if it is an ongoing problem that has not been resolved. I ended up speaking to a senior manager of the Applecare team who then proceeded to tell me about mailing in my grievence to customer services division or something like that.
If I can find the address I may post it if I'm allowed.
In the case of age, Schools usually have a 5-year life-cycle as they tend to be used differently than consumer machines, i.e. being used constantly on a daily basis for at least 12 hours with no break. you would expect issues to appear after a few years, but I expect problems that arise through defects to be resolved and stay resolved. As I mentioned we had machines for around 2 years before the lines appeared and sent them to be repaired. I'm happy with that. What I am unhappy about is the fact that the problem has reappeared exactly in the same way and now I'm left with around 7 machines that I either pay loads to repair or, the more likely replace the machines with newer ones since the age is now big enough to warrant the replacement.
Sorry for the lengthy moan, but these are the reasons I purchased Apple ahrdware in the first place to avoid the "not our problem" stance some PC vendors  usually take, similar to the Dell monitors thread mentioned in here somewhere.

  • Question about packages from AUR that get into [community]

just noticed that powerpill is out of the AUR and into [community] (yeah!).  My question: since I installed powerpill and its two deps from the AUR, should I uninstall the versions that I built from the AUR then install from the repo or doesn't it matter?  In other words, will pacman know that these are in the repos and if updates are posted, will it fetch them just like any other package?
I think the answer is no to the uninstall and yes to pacman just working, but I'd like to hear from the pros
    Thanks!

Thanks for the confirmation.  Powerpill rocks - I'm very glad to see that it's in [community] now.  I took a stab at updating the beginners guide with an entry about it.  I don't have much time tonight to do it justice, but at least it's a start.

  • A question about multiple computer syncing

Hey i'm getting an iphone soon, and here's my situation.
I have an apple ibook, and an imac G5, which both have data and information (songs, videos, contacts, etc.) that i'd like on my iphone. The itunes running on both computers use the same itunes account, with the same password and user name and everything. So my question is, could i register the iphone on the iMac G5, get the songs on it from that computer, then go and plug it in to the apple iBook and sync the songs from that computer?
    thanks for the help,
    jim

These observations are from my own personal experience syncing my iPhone between an iMac G5 and a Dell Windows XP system...
    - iMac G5 was the original activation computer and it's iTunes library became the "master" library
    - when connected to Dell, acts like any other iPod that is not synced with the computer - you can see songs but cannot copy them
    - there is no "file system" mode to the iPhone, unlike iPod, so there is no way to move files around
    - syncing contacts and calendar events between the iMac (iCal and Address Book) and the Dell (Outlook 2007) was painless.
    - iPhone does not appear to support multiple categories of calendar entries (e.g. "work" and "home")
    - iPhone DOES work with Exchange Server as long as exchange has IMAP turned on
    - iPhone DOES support multiple email accounts (I have three on mine and they work great)

  • Some question about what bdb can do?

1.I want to use it to index one or more field, and search it like this ' List<Object> res = primaryIndex.get("aeo*"); '
2.I want to list all primaryIndex by Cursor, and will it become slow or crush when there are lots of threads are listing.(ex: primaryIndexs are more than 10,000,000)
3.I heard if use SecondaryIndex, insert will become very slow when we have to many primaryIndexs (ex:more than 60,000,000)
I will do some test after these weekend, and some suggestion will make it more efficient.
    thank you for read this.

    Hi,
    Some suggestions for your question:
    1. I think you prefer to using DPL, right? You can refer to the DPL API (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17277_02/html/java/com/sleepycat/persist/package-summary.html) for how to index java object with multiple fields.
    2. Do you mean you will create more than 10,000,000 PrimaryIndexes to handle the data? What kinds of operations do these huge number of PrimaryIndexes will take? Do they only do read operation? Or do they do both read and write operations? If the latter, it does cause concurrency problem. I think you can configure the isolation levels to improve your performance. Please refer to isolation levels (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17277_02/html/TransactionGettingStarted/isolation.html).
    3. The same with question 2. With too many PrimaryIndexes, doing write operation will cause serious concurrency problem.
Another suggestion is that, before you doing your testing, it is worth increasing your jvm cache size, and use enhanced DPL (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17277_02/html/java/com/sleepycat/persist/model/ClassEnhancer.html).
There are some other suggestions for JE's performance in FAQ web page(http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/berkeleydb/je-faq-096044.html) under "Performance" section.
I think your tests for BDB JE is very interesting. We also look forward your testing results. Please keep us informed of your testing, and feel free to post your further questions here.
    Thanks.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you SO much for all the help. i am finally
starting to get the hang of XML, but i still have some hangups!

This is not an uncommon problem.
When you do getElementsByTagName() on a document, you get all elements by that name that anywhere in the tree of the document.
When you do a removeChild, you need to be pointing to the parent of the element you are removing.
If you change the removeChild line to :
    Node parent =  nl.item(i).getParentNode();
parent.removeChild( nl.item(i) );Also, it is generally not done to use a capital letter to start the name of an instance, such as "Doc". Initial capital letters are usually reserved for class names.

  • Stupid question about "What's in the box?"

Ok, i just got my new iPod Touch 32GB. I'm really confused about one of the items that came in the box.
This one thing that looks like an insert for the dock - the shape of it is too wide for the skinny little iTouch - and it's only a dock insert, it's not the dock itself.
So i'm confused - how do i make use of this? I tried clipping it on my iPhone dock, & my 4th. Generation iPod dock, as well as my iHome alarm clock dock - and it doesn't fit anywhere.
It does not lay flat, it doesn't fit anything, and i am really confused. Does anybody know what i am to do with this? Thank you.
    Jason

It's a dock adapter for docks that use the Apple system, such as Apple's own. You'd put it in the dock so your iPod would fit properly. iHome uses it's own adapater system. Honestly, I hardly ever find a use for them as I don't use docks much. I think I have a box of them somewhere from all the iPods I've purchased...
