Question about Wi-Fi led and switch of Portege Z930

Hi folks,
I'm not sure about my configuration: could anyone confirm that the wifi led near the touchpad is the only led of amber color?
Moreover, my F8 button for the wifi switch does not work: anyone knows which is the relative package?
Thanks
da

Hi
There is a row of indicators under the touchpad buttons.
The 3rd from right indicator is Wlan led.
The 2nd from right is WAN/WiMAX led.
The Wlan indicator glows orange if the WLan in ON
WAN/WiMAX indicator glows blue if its ON. In some models the indicator will glow and blink in order to indicate the connections status of the WAN function
To enable the WLan, you have to press FN + F8.
But if no Wlan device is installed, no dialog will appear

  • Question related to SFP, Fiber, and switches model Compatibility for Gigs Connections

    Hi everyone,
I am in the middle of a project where we are receiving a 2gig Internet connection from a service provider. I need to connect this to a switch , my question is related to what sfp, switch would be the most compatible. I was thinking about a 3750 switch with sfp modules, but i am not sure if a SFP 1000 sx is enough as we are receiving a 2 gig connection via fiber then I would need to use a 10G module, with 10G sfps... mm well i am very confuse... can anyone help me please in your experience with a similar situation
    Thanks.

A "2 gig" connection might mean a 10g logically limited to 2g, or it might mean the full duplex capacity of a gig link.
The SFP+ ports on 10g 3750X modules will support either a gig or 10g transceiver.  The SPF ports, on either 10g or gig modules will only support gig.

  • Question about how the Robocopy /B switch works...

I've been experimenting with robocopy recently, and most switches seem self explanatory for the most part; although I have a question about the /B switch.
    The help says the following:
/B :: copy files in Backup mode.
I've checked multiple forums and websites to try and elaborate on this a little more, and from my understanding this switch enables backup mode that essentially gives the ability to change the acls of a file/folder when the account running robocopy does
not have sufficient privileges, to perform a successful copy.
My question is, when the acls are changed when using this "backup mode" switch, with the /copyall switch, will the file still retain the same user access that it originally had - or does it change all of the security settings?
I'm hoping it will somehow change the security settings, create a copy, and retain the same acls as the original - so users can still access necessary files.
Can someone please explain how this "backup mode" works?
    Thanks in advance.

This is a very useful thread with a lot of hostility in it.
I have to agree with Jonathan and hazymat: there are few other forums that will discuss the exact function of /b switch, the TechNet article just says "copies in Backup Mode" (I have the article bookmarked), and when doing a google search, THIS page comes
up as the top result! Kinda difficult to tell people they should go search, when you are the exact destination of that search, isn't it? ;)
No offense to anybody working hard to help out here, but this is why sites like Stack Exchange will overshadow every traditional tech forum very soon. More concise question/answer format, more civil, and they actually encourage old questions developing new
answers! All q&a is cataloged for future reference. Their focus is on being a 'resource'.
The negativity here is unfortunate, you guys have great potential to be a very helpful resource for people. Who are you trying to be, the guys with all the answers, or the guys who say "get out of here, your answer isn't in here. Go search for it."?
Regardless, many thanks to jrv! for helping me with my robocopy batch SCRIPT which I just used to create an automated backup! Take care boys. And yes, I just bumped your old-old thread.
Unfortunately I think you miss the point.  RoboCopy is an application.  It is not a script.  This is a scripting forum.  Many people come here nd never read the forum guidelines and do not ask script related questions.
The /b switch is documented in RoboCopy help.  Of course it assumes the reader is a trained Windows tech and knows what backup mode is.  It is used by nearly all backup software when backing up a live system..
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Question about Movie Rental Times and AirPlay

Just wondering. I have been sitting with my Apple TV2 since I got it this morning with it saying to download an hd movie. 1920 minutes remaining.I can get a faster download off my computer so that comes to my second question. Can I rent it on my computer and airplay it to my Apple TV?
Oh and my network speed is 3mbs. Not alot I know... But is that ok?

Are either of you using a DNS server / name server other than the one provided by your Internet service provider? OpenDNS or Google's DNS service, for instance? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, probably not.) There have been a number of reports suggesting that this can result in slow media downloads due to the way the movie servers try to optimize delivery based on your location, though it's unclear to me how accurate this really is.
Also, be aware that by default, the new Apple TVs provide "hi-def" rentals from the iTunes store (this is not applicable to Netflix), which means a larger and therefore longer download. To rent standard definition, you have to go into Settings and switch rentals to standard definition.

  • Some questions about Unity 4.0 and IPC

I have a couple of questions and I was looking for "real world" answers, not specific answers from the design guide.
1.What is this bandwidth requirement between Exchange and Unity and what is it used for?
    2. What sort of issues would we experience if we placed the Unity UM Server at the Colo and placed the Exchange server at the customer premise; with a single T1 between the sites?
3.What else is involved with a Unity UM install vs. a Unity VM install?
4.Does the Unity UM and Exchange servers have to be running AD?
    5. Can Unity or the Exchange box be the Domain Controller? Or does it need to be a separate server?
    6. Where does a vm message get streamed from? The Unity server or the Exchange server?

No you do not pay for FaceTime. It uses your WiFi network, so if you have access to WiFi it is free.
There is no server required for FaceTime, it will use a direct device to device protocol.
I can't answer the question about using phones in different countries as that will depend on if you buy a phone that is locked to a carrier.
If you buy a phone in Germany and it is locked to a German phone network then it will most likely not work with a SIM from Turkey. You would need to buy an unlocked phone which are very expensive as they do not have any carrier subsidy applied to the price.

  • A button, led and switch

Hi. I'm new in the LabWindows CVI and i put to panel a toggle button, a led and a binary switch. I want to turn on the led when i pressing the button and to change the color of led from switch. I put all components to panel, i set a callback function for each, i generate all callbacks from menu and the next step i think it is to use GetCtrlVal and SetCtrlVal, but i don't know how to use this function and where to use. I need help..I had never used LabWindowsCvi before

    pleasure ha scritto:
you activate the led only from the buton, and change the colour from the switcher as you said...
    Hi pleasure,
I have to disagree with your solution: turning on a LED has nothing to do with dimming it.
Turning a LED on means changing its state from 0 to 1 by using SetCtrlVal (or SetCtrlAttribute with ATTR_CTRL_VAL, which is the same): what you are doing in your ChooseColour function.
You can edit LED properties and play with both Initial State and Initially dimmed parameters and see in the preview box which is the effect of both: each of four combinations of those attributes is valid, but it will have a different visual effect as you can see here:
Keep in mind, additionally, that dimming a control has usually the meaning of declaring it inactive in the current situation: it is well different from an off led!
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Question about using 10g/11g and APEX ...

    Hi,
I just recently learned of Oracle's APEX and have a few questions about using it.
Can I use APEX with express, standard, and enterprise editions of 10g and 11g?
Are all of these free to use?

You might want to read about APEX rather than jumping into questions that are reasonably well documented. Info at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
    Your specific questions:
    1) Apex is a package that can be installed into any properly licensed database.
    2) The price for the production license of the database varies by edition.
The price for Express Edition is $0 for use in production. Part of the cost for that edition is 'no Oracle Support based support, no patches, data volume limitation, etc.'

  • Questions about JVC GZ HD7 and Final Cut

i'm planning to buy a JVC GZ HD7, but i have some questions about it...
    My imac configuration is
    Imac 20" late 2006
    1 Gb Ram
    Leopard 10.5.2
    Final Cut Studio 2
    Ok
    So my questions are:
1- When shooting the best setting for me is the 1440cbr, or 1920x1080
is better? i would like to have progressive instead of interlaced
moviefiles, but for what i have read the JVC HD7 only shoots interlaced...is possible to turn them into progressive after working in final cut?
2- In Final Cut Pro what are the sequence settings and the video
settings for a video shoot from this camera?
I would like to know the best settings possible for me,
regarding that i would like to edit in real time, no rendering needed,
and to have the best image quality that this camera can offer...

FCE is designed to work with DV/HDV files. It cannot work natively with MPEG2 files. You will need something like MPEG Streamclip to convert your files to a format that FCE understands
Streamclip is free but you need to buy Apple's MPEG Playback Component to make it work

  • Techie Question about iWeb, outbound links, and Google Analytics

    Hi,
I have a kind of pretty technical question about using Google Analytics (GA) with iWeb sites to measure clicks on outbound links. Here's the setup:
    1) My website's online, and GA is working properly.
    2) I don't sell stuff directly, but I do have a "Purchase" page which contains a link to a specific Amazon page.
    3) I'm pretty sure I can measure how many people go to the Purchase page using GA, but how do I measure whether visitors click on the Amazon link? It would be interesting to me to be able to gauge what the conversion rate is; that is, how many people actually proceed to purchase the product at Amazon.
I've checked the GA instructions and there's a page about manually tracking clicks on outbound links but it requires some code inputting. I know zero about coding, but I'm pretty sure that in iWeb you can't get access to the source code to input the required code.
Am I wrong about this? And if I am, then does anyone here know how to measure the clickthrough rate?
Anyway, hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the link tracking but you could have the link take you to a redirect page which automatically sends them to Amazon.com after a preset time, 0 seconds to whatever you'd like. You can put a counter on that redirect page, like StatCounter. StatCounter can tell you how many, from where they came, i.e country and area, repeat visits, etc.
Tutorials #12 & #13 describe how to put a visible counter on a page but with a redirect page you wouldn't have to bother since it wouldn't be seen. You can get all of your information from your account on the StatCounter site.
The redirect page would be a simple plain text page titled redirect.html and would look like this:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0; Destination URL">
<title>Redirecting or whatever you'd like to appear at the top of the browser</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
0 Is the number of seconds to wait before redirecting the visitor. If set to zero the visitor would not know they were being redirected. Replace Destination URL with the Amazon URL you want them to go to.

  • I just have questions about the AirPort Express and how it works.

My household Wi-Fi is not the strongest in  my room and I found out about the AirPort Express and I read the overvie, but I still have some questions on how it works, how its setup and other questions as well.

The AirPort Express will not wirelessly extend the signal from another router unless that router is also an Apple product.
Not sure what other questions you might have, but we'll try to answer if you want to ask.

  • Question about suitability of iPhone and specific comparisons

I like the Verizon network (for which I'm considering upgrading to the Omnia II) but am thinking about biting the bullet and going to AT&T for the iPhone. I use Macs at home and at work. My main uses will be phonecalls (with reliable voice dialing from my car - bluetooth stereo and earpiece), mail (Exchange server access for calendar, mail, and addressbook), internet through the cellphone network (not wifi) - browsing, SFTP, VNC, etc., watching videos, photos, and listening to music, calendar reminders (as well as periodic sound reminders for missed calls, voicemails, etc.), opening PDF and Word documents, GPS (ideally with spoken driving directions),and Skype. Given these uses, can anyone advise me if there's anything here that is a problem for the iPhone?
    thanks,
    Mike

    "VNC"
There are pretty nice VNC clients for the platform, the best being Jaadu VNC. (See my just-published "Everything you will ever want to know about the remote desktop controllers on the iPhone" for more info if interested; it's been cross-posted to several iPhone forums. Not this one - yet - as I still don't have Level 1.)
    watching videos
The 3G S (but not the 3G!) is far better than current for example Windows Mobile or Symbian phones in that it can play back MPEG-4 / H.264 videos without excessive power consumption. That is, if all your videos are in this format, the 3G S is the way to go.
Nevertheless, if your videos are in DivX, XviD or - even worse - WMV, you won't be able to natively play them back - you'll need to transcode them first.
This, unfortunately, also means WMV streaming TV stations are far harder to watch than on, say, Windows Mobile. The only AppStore app ("Streamer") supporting them is really bad and delivers dismal performance, even on the 3G S.

  • Question about VLAN handling for virtual switches and vnets

    Regards,
We are encountering some problems when using VLAN tagged 10g ethernet. We assign the VLANS to the vsw like this:
    ldm add-vsw net-dev=net2 mtu=9000 vid=vid1,vid2,.... mode=sc primary-vsw0 primary
the mode=sc is due to us planning for possible Solaris Cluster installation for some guests. The guest get its vnets like this:
    ldm add-vnet mode=hybrid vid=vid1 vnet0 primary-vsw0 guest
we use mode=hybrid since this is a NIU 10 gig eth interface in a T4-4. My questions are:
    1. Do you see any problems with this config ?
    2. Do you know of any problems with using VLAN tagging in virtual switches/virtual nets for LDOMs ?
    3. When adding, subtracting VLANS to the vsw does it need to recreated or does a ldm set-vsw vid=vid1,... work dynamically (this goes of course for other vsw properties as well) ?
This is VM Server for SPARC v2.2, Solaris 11 for control and service domains, solaris 10 in the guest LDOMs.
    Thanks,
Edited by: DamnGoodCoffee! on Nov 2, 2012 4:59 AM

    Hi,
    1.
    - If you want that the vnet is handling the VLAN tagging for you, you need to set the pvid.
    - If you want to do the VLAN tagging in the guest LDOM (via the interface name vnetVLANID00x), it is OK.
    2. We use VLAN tagging in vnetX via setting the pvid for the vnet for guest LDOMs, and we use the interface name based VLAN tagging in the primary domain on the vsw interface.
    3. You don't need to recreate, you can set it. I'm not sure if you need to reboot to let it take effect, but IIRC it is dynamic (should be easy to test).
    Bye,
    Alexander.

  • 2 questions: default to shared folder and switcher sort order

I've got two Finder questions to which I haven't found an answer:
    1) Can the "Finder>Preferences>General>New Finder windows open" option ever be set to a folder on a file server? When I try to do this, I can select the shared folder, but the pop-up menu reverts to the previous selection (e.g. Home). I suspect that since a server cannot be guaranteed to be accessible, the Finder refuses to allow it to be assigned as a default location.
    2) I've got a switcher friend who would like to replicate in Finder windows the Windows Explorer behavior of sorting all folders to the top of the list. Is there a utility that will do this? List View sorted by Kind works for this chap only if there are no items with a Kind of alias, application, etc. that will sort higher than "Folder".

    1) the answer appears to be yes but if you ever try to open a new window when the server isn't available the preference reverts to your computer.
    2) no, at this time there is no Finder pref nor utility that sorts folders to the top. Two solutions exist but both are kludges. First, name every folder with a leading space, this forces the sort to the top. Second, PathFinder is a Finder semi-replacement which does allow the option of sorting folders to the top. PF is an interesting product but because it doesn't have all of Finder's AppleScript behaviors it cannot perfectly replace the Finder and having, in effect, two Finders is annoying.
