Question about Yosemite download Apps consuming storage

Prior to Yosemite download yesterday, the green "Apps" bar took up 1/5 of the space it does as shown here.  What does this mean--yet the HD states "455.75 GB free of 498.88 GB.?"
Any help you can give me is appreciated.  I loved Mavericks, but don't know what is going on with Yosemite.
Thanks!

Inivision please see CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.html which discusses how to resolve the difficulties you have described.

  • Questions About Gifting an App

I've never "gifted" an App-Store app before, but I see "http://mashable.com/2010/03/22/itunes-app-gifting" tells a little more about the process.
Between that and searching in the discussions here, best I can tell (correct me if I'm mistaken):
    * I identify the recipient by name and Email address.
    * Sender and recipient need to be in the same country.
    Questions:
    * How does the app "arrive"? It looks like it sends an Email message or lets you print out a coupon, right? That as opposed to, for example, popping up a badge on the recipient's App Store icon, or popping up an alert banner ("Santa123 just gave you an App," or something like that).
    * Best I can tell, there's no option to make the gift "arrive" at a particular time/date (e.g., Christmas morning). That is, the recipient always gets a coupon in Email immediately (if you use the Email option), right?
    * Can the App Store check to see whether the recipient already has the app? Relatedly, can I return the gifted app if s/he already has it?
    * When I gift an app, does it appear as one of his/her apps just like any other, or we have to do something ... special in subsequent syncs?

    Correct.
Can the App Store check to see whether the recipient already has the app?
    No.
can I return the gifted app if s/he already has it?
No, unless iTunes support makes an exception.
When I gift an app, does it appear as one of his/her apps just like any other, or we have to do something ... special in subsequent syncs?
They get a code, which they redeem & then the app downloads to their account.
You can also gift an allowance to avoid the above, that way they can purchase what they want.

  • Please i have a question about to YOUTUBE App.

    Dear all,
i have a question about YOUTUBE app.
    i have Iphone 3G.
as i use youtube a new error message has appeared "Cannot Connect to YouTube"
noted that i could't use YouTube before.
    Thanks ,
    Ashraf

I don't use that app. I just go to the web based site. You can share videos from the site, but not from the app, as far as I have been able to do. Try the web based version and see if you get the same error. Go through Safari is what I mean.

  • The new Yosemite Photos app local storage usage question

    Hi,
Did anyone check the local storage usage for the new Photos on Yosemite?
How much space does it take for all the lores photos locally if the originals are stored in iCloud.
Lets say if 100GB of RAW files are migrated from Aperture in to Photos to cloud. This should be 100GB in the cloud and how much on OS X?
Can a RAW file still be downloaded from cloud later or are they transformed to jpgs once uploaded?
What if there is not enough storage for all lores photos on iOS or OS X representing all the original iCloud photos?
    I'm really puzzled about this.
    Thanks

I just installed the Yosemite upgrade with Photos.  I don't use Aperture of the iCloud, but the iPhotos library migrated with about the same disk space, but it is doubled, because the old iPhoto library is still on disk.

  • General question about uploading web apps

i have my site completed and it works on the testing server
without a glitch. i've uploaded static sites before without a
hitch, but i'm not so certain about web apps. seems when you upload
the site with dw, it uploads the html and php . . . but then there
are the tables from the db. uploading them and getting them to hook
up all over again . . . how do you do that? can someone review the
    steps please. thanks.

    something like this:
    1. check your remote server has phpMyAdmin installed and the
    URL to
access it (phpMyAdmin is a web app written in PHP and you
    access it
    through a browser)
    2. download and install phpMyAdmin locally
    3. run phpMyAdmin, usually
    http://localhost/phpMyAdmin,
    but the url will
vary depending the installation and your development
    platform.
export your local DB; phpMyAdmin will create a file named by
    default
"localhost.sql". depending your browser configuratioon you
    can change
the file name/choose where to save
    4. run phpMyAdmin in the remote server and import your DB
    just choosing
    the file in step 3
later you can export/import tables instead the full DB. if
    you're
reimporting the DB remember to check the "Add DROP DATABASE"
    checkbox
    when exporting
you can't see any files in the server with phpMyAdmin, it's
    only a
visual interface to the MySQL server. keep using DW to
create/modify/upload html, js and php files

  • A few questions about Yosemite

I have done a fresh install on an external drive to test it. Went a bit fast and didn't read before hand. (never a good idea), so I am coming to you to ask a few silly questions to which I can't find specific answers.
1/ I used my Apple ID (not even realising) to set it up. That password is a bit too complicated for a daily use. Q: if I change that screen login password, would this change my Apple ID password too?
2/ I noticed that the filevault button to authorise new software to be installed, is gone. So far only a reboot allows me to use new software such as basic as firefox, chrome etc. Do I really need to reboot every time I want to install a little bit of software not coming from the app store? Or am I missing something.
3/ Didn't manage to get flash player working (although) that was before I rebooted, and already uninstalled it as it was jamming it all.
4/ does Adobe CC suite works, or do I need an upgrade.
    Thank you

    Hi Lune,
    1.     No, it won't change it. Just ensure that you take the necessary steps wrt to your keychain.
    2.     No, you don't have to reboot every time. You can purchase or update.
    3.     Only download from Adobe themselves, not from any third party source.
    4.     Visit this site to check for compatibility with Yosemite.
    Have fun,

  • Design question about instant download a patch

    Hi All,
Here is a design question for you:
    Background:
The application we built is being upgraded from time to time and we send it to our users.
our users use it on a network so there is only one file to upgrade (and being done by the sys admin)
We send them a patch; actually, its a new version of the application they place it in the relevant folder and continue to work with a new version.
    Problems:
    1. We send them the patch via email - sometimes it takes a while until they read their email and at they are using an old version of the system.
    2. Some of them are not computer savvy (when its not the sys admin) and we need to guide them as where exactly to place the file (there are 3 files)
Our (conceptual never build yet) Solution:
Build a program just like Norton antivirus (or other) that prompts the user from the task bar (next to the clock) that a new version is available and by
clicking once it will automatically download the file and store it in the correct folder.
    Question:
    1. Did anyone try anything like this before (or something like) who can tell me about it?
    2. Do you think this kind of system will work for us?
    3. Does anyone have a better solution?
    Thanks
    Peter

thanks, I posted it there. No, he meant that Webstart is the mechanism you should use. It supports net-based distribution and automatic centralized updates of apps. Exactly what you want.

Java WebStart is the deployment technique suited for your purposes.
The deployment will be done via a webserver running a jnlp servlet (provided).
The applications may either run offline, or check online for automatic updates.
    You have several configuration options.
ArgoUML and jEdit are two open source apps delivered this way.
Your app will need to be adapted though.
And your customers need an online browser with installed jvm.

    1. It's posssible to download full version. Look at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html
    2. Minimum requirements are described in documentation.
    More at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/index.html
    3. AFAIK there are not Standard or Personal edition of Oracle Developer Suite just DB is in that versions.
Check the details about product and choose one.
    4. I'think you just need Oracle DB and Oracle DS. Beter check the details about each of product and make your own decision.

  • Questions about Yosemite

Some of these questions are just out of curiosity and there might be no answer at all, but maybe somebody knows answers to my following questions:
    1. Where do I get widgets for Notification Centre? I already have one, which I bought from AppStore (iStat Mini) Do I have to buy all these or there are also free ones? Is there any site like Apple had for dashboard, where you could download widgets?
    2. I wasn't able to delete stuff from my external hard drive with Snow Leopard - Mavericks, but Yosemite deleted everything I wished within minutes. Why's that?
    3. I am using a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) and no other OS has worked as greatly and as smoothly as Yosemite. Why's that?
    4. I have Snow Leopard on my other external hard drive. Snow Leopard and Mavericks are still showing that I should service my battery now, but Yosemite shows that it's health is normal. Why's that? I haven't replaced it, because it still lasts ~5 hours, even when the brightness is all the way up and I'm surfing the web on WiFi.
I do know that I've been using Yosemite only for couple of hours yet, but so far I am happy and it works better than any other OS has on my computer.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is if my old iPod (3rd generation Nano) works with Yosemite. Hopefully it does, because I don't want to buy a new one and I'm not even planning to. I don't want iPod Classic or an iPod with a touch screen. My iPod is perfect for me.

  • Question about building an app for a single ad hoc distribution

Say I want to build and app and send the app, along with a provisioning profile, to somebody to install via iTunes for beta testing.
The "Ad Hoc" panel says the following:
Ad Hoc distribution allows you to share your application with up to 100 iPhone or iPod touch users, and to distribute your application through email or by posting it to a web site or server. To prepare your application, the following steps will need to be completed.
Create and Download an iPhone Distribution Certificate
Create and Download an Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile
    Build your application with Xcode
Share your application file and the Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile with the owner of each device
Recipients of the application will need to drag the application file and Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile into iTunes, then sync their iPhone to iTunes to install
My question is, do I have to build the application in the extremely complicated way described in the "distribution" tab which says "only the team agent" can do? Or is that for a mass distribution?
Can I build my app like I do for the simulator and just send that along with the provisioning profile to the other person by email?
What is the absolute easiest way of doing this sort of ad hoc distribution?
    Thanks!
    doug

Another development device? I don't even have one yet.
The person I'm developing with has one though.
It turns out all that needed to be done was:
    (1) Build using the iPhone OS setting instead of the Simulator setting.
    (2) Set the provisioning profile.
Then using the app and profile, just drop them on top of the apps section in iTune and synch.
That's all there was too it. I didn't need to use all the 11 steps in the distribution section for just the ad hoc distribution, I'm happy to say!

  • Questions about updating an app in the app store

I'm a creative cloud menber working with the single edition DPS. My app has been approved by Apple and is in the store. But, of course, there is a typo. What do I need to know about submitting an updated version. Should it have a new version number say 1.1? Can I use all the same certificates both mobile provision and development 12? Is the review process more expediant when it's a update?
    thanks
    Chuck

    Hi Chuck,
Subscribers to Adobe Creative Cloud can revise their apps (and submit their rebuilt apps to Apple) for as long as they are Creative Cloud subscribers. When you revise your app, use the same App ID and distribution provisioning profile to create the new custom viewer. In DPS App Builder, select the existing app you created, and click Edit. Specify the most recent app version, if desired, and follow the prompts to create a new app. Download and test the development file. In iTunes Connect, click Manage Your Applications, click the app you want to update, and then click Add Version. Follow the prompts, and then use Application Loader to upload the .zip file.
