Question before installing

I currently am running 10.4.11, and I just bought Leopard today.
My concern/question is concerning CS2, and what will happen once I install Leopard. I was given CS2 by a teacher of mine on my laptop so I could do layout for my school newspaper, but I am no longer involved in that class, so I don't have the installation disks anymore.
Will I have to re-enter the registration numbers? Is there any way that I can keep CS2 and still install Leopard?
Thank you for your advice in advance.

I can't address the C2 issue since I don't use those items. However, since you're no longer associated with that work, bite the bullet and buy the latest Adobe things if you really need them.
However, before you proceed, get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire), and make a bootable backup/clone before upgrading and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall anything. See these for details:

  • Question before installing Tiger....

    Hi all...
this may sound like a silly question, but I just wanted to cover my butt...
Ok, I plan to install Tiger on my Power Mac G5, and I am backing up files and such on an external hard-drive...Is it possible to just drag and drop the Adobe programs(or any program for that matter) onto the external, then wipe the G5 hard-drive, install Tiger, plug in the external and retrieve the Adobe programs off the external and drop them onto the G5's newly formatted hard drive? Are there components that should be put on the external hard drive?
I'd like to do this with out having to re-install the programs by disk because they're not on me at the moment. Any help would be wonderful.
G5 Power Mac Dual Processor   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The best way to accomplish this is to clone your entire system to external using CarbonCopy Cloner or SuperDuper.
Then, you can follow these steps
Good luck, let us know if you have any questions.

  • Specific questions before installing Bootcamp

My plan is the install Bootcamp first, and then VM Fusion,
so that I can do both a reboot into Windows and have
a virtual machine, depending on my needs.
    Questions:
    1. Do I only need the partition size for Windows XP to be
large enough for the operating system and not for any
    Windows specific programs or files?
    2. Bootcamp instructions state that with NTFS file system,
that files created on Mac cannot be saved in Windows
partition. Does that also mean that files created by
Windows and saved in the NTFS partition cannot be
opened by Mac? Is that an argument to make the Windows
partition FAT32 and only use it for the operating system?
    3. I have a 1 GB hard drive. I plan to run as much as possible
within Mac, but will be forced to run certain items in Windows
(Panasonic KV-S2026 scanner only has Windows drivers,
QuickBooks 2008, etc). I won't be running games. How would
you divide your hard drive and why?
    Thanks.

The biggest problem is often that people don't estimate how much disk space they will need for Windows. Double what you think you need.
If you don't think Windows will need storage to save programs and files, where do you think they will go?
Yes files and programs are stored on Windows.
Fusion will also add support files and drivers to Windows. Maybe you don't need to even use BootCamp and just get by with Fusion. Or Parallels.
NTFS is read-only from OS X unless you use 3rd party drivers, then you can write to NTFS.
MacFUSE 3G is one, Paragon-Software sells a program. It is no different than installing any scanner or printer driver, so it isn't a big deal. Installing Fusion, and Windows, those take more care and knowledge.
Vista requires NTFS. With XP you can still use FAT.
#3: you don't have a 1GB hard drive. 500GB? 1TB? Same with memory, everything is in "GB" now, and not "MB."
In your previous "solved" thread about XP Pro 64-bit, you went over most of this already. If you want to use 4GB fully, then Vista 64-bit. However, Apple still doesn't include the 64-bit drivers for the iMac, for those you need to grab them off the web.

  • A Few Questions Before Installing Windows 7 in Boot Camp...

    1. New Mac Pro compatible with both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7?
    2. What is the minimum safe amount of space needed on the boot camp drive partition to Windows 7 to operate with no issues?
    3. If one no longer needs the boot camp partition nor windows can one reset things back to factory specs with only the Mac OS on the drive and recover the full drive space like new?
    4. Any good video tutorials out their on installing Windows 7 with boot camp?
    5. This is a big concern for me, lots of complaints the the nVidia drivers in windows are not up to date and this has caused a blank screen to come up. Has this video driver issue been resolved?

you say Mac Pro, well that means you can put Windows on its own drive, and that you will need to use ATI drivers directly.
not knowing what your needs are maybe a VM is enough.
too general to say how large and that can be based in part on amount of RAM installed, programs, data. And with 1TB costing $90 does 25GB vs 50GB vs something else? I mean $10 for 100GB is getting cheap.
If you intend to buy a Mac Pro then obviously you want 64-bit, and if it is single cpu you don't need Windows 7 Pro.

  • Two questions before installing Yosemite

    Hello,
1 - I have several external HDDs connected to my iMac: is it better that they be turned ON (mounted) or turned OFF (dismounted) when updating to Yosemite?
2 - I am currently running OS X 10.8.5 on another  iMac: can I install Yosemite directly without a prior installation of 10.9 ?
    Thanks

    1. Turned off.
    2. Yes.

  • A few questions before installing xp

which of the two version goes best with macbook... media center or pro?
will boot camp allow me to install a non genuine copy?
how much space should i give to it? i only intend to keep it for any urgent need in scenarios where i would need to run a windows based application. for everything else, mac.
does installing windows void the warranty?
    what about the drivers?
will xp be able to access my mac partiton for pics, videos and movies?

which of the two version goes best with macbook... media center or pro?
Your choice on that one. Both versions work equally as well.
will boot camp allow me to install a non genuine copy?
Boot Camp requires a licensed copy of windows as indicated [HERE|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11889.html]. Some have tried to circumnavigate this requirement however most of them have run into issues during and after installation.
how much space should i give to it? i only intend to keep it for any urgent need in scenarios where i would need to run a windows based application. for everything else, mac.
My recommendation is at least 32BG partition. This will allow for enough space for future use. A partition too small may be an issue in the future. At this time, there is no easy/straight way of increasing the partition space without starting the Boot Camp procedure all over again.
does installing windows void the warranty?
    No
    what about the drivers?
Windows drivers are on the Leopard installation disk.
will xp be able to access my mac partiton for pics, videos and movies?
Mac partition NO because it is formatted in OSx HFS. It won't even see your OSx partition. The way around this is to have another drive/partition formatted in Windows FAT32 format. This will allow both OSx and Windows to read/write on it.

  • Bootcamp Question? Should I update bootcamp before installing Vista SP1

    Hi,
I am about to install Vista SP1 on iMac, Leopard 10.5.4.
About a month back, there was a bootcamp update that had been posted on support download website. The question is; Do I need to install the Update before installing Vista or is that needs to be done after the installation of Vista?
    Thanks for the help,

The update is consists only of new device drivers for Windows XP and Vista. There are different updates depending upon whether you install 32-bit XP, 32-bit Vista, or 64-bit Vista. So Windows must be installed first, the original drivers included on the Leopard DVD should be installed, then you can install the update in Windows.

  • I have created a new partition on the Mac HD for Lion as I would like to dual boot. Do I need to install Snow Leopard on that partition before installing Lion? If so, can I use one of my Time Machine backups to do this?

I have created a new partition on the Mac HD for Lion as I would like to dual boot. Do I need to install Snow Leopard on that partition before installing Lion? If so, can I use one of my Time Machine backups to do this?

    zoominnana wrote:
Can I set up 2 different time capsule backups? one for the lion partition and one for the snow leopard partition?
No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

  • I asked this question before but I can't find it now. Anyway, I'm trying to import a DVD video that was made on a MAC and use it on a new iMovie project.

I asked this question before but I can't find it now. Anyway, I'm trying to import a DVD video that was made on a MAC and use it on a new iMovie project.
How do I do the importing.

If the video is already on a DVD:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • What directory are the RPM files in before installing Oracle?

    Hello
I am getting ready to install Oracle9i and one of the RPM files is missing so I downloaded it and will copy it to CD then to the hard drive. The question is:
    1) After I copy the RPM file to CD what directory do I copy the RPM file onto on the hard drive before installing Oracle?
    2) What directory are the other RPM files to be installed in before installing Oracle in?

There is no specific directory for RPM packages (in case we don't talking about builded rpm packages from src.rpm packages).
You can copy RPM package to and install from any directory. After succesfull installation you can delete it.
    Example:
    cd /tmp
    [ivan@ivan ~]$ cd /tmp/
    [ivan@ivan tmp]$ wget -q http://sunsite.mff.cuni.cz/pub/fedora/6/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/zsh-4.2.6-1.i386.rpm
    [ivan@ivan tmp]$ su
    Password:
    [root@ivan tmp]# rpm -ivh zsh-4.2.6-1.i386.rpm
    Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
       1:zsh                    ########################################### [100%]
    [root@ivan tmp]# rm -f zsh-4.2.6-1.i386.rpm
    [root@ivan tmp]# rpm -qa|grep zsh

  • Before installing SSD in macbook pro, should I first partition it through USB?

    Hi there,
I've got the Crucial MX100 as an upgrade from my Hitachi HDD. I don't need to copy anything from the old drive, and I will install Yosemite via usb flash.
I did a bit of research and some people (not mac users necessarily) have had problems in partitioning the SSD after attaching it to the sata port. My question is: would it be recommended to first create a GUID partition through USB on the ssd before installing it in? I think I know the answer to that, and my instincts tell me to trust the Mac, but I want to be sure.
    Thank you!
    Early 2011 MBP, 512GB Crucial MX100

Even if you have the same name as Grant Pannell the "pioneer" in the starting period of the SSDs, you can not post your statement as the truth.
And it certainly has nothing to do with data integrity. Can you tell me if Apple has something special in their SSD controller or the standard controller ?
If you refer to old SSDs with controllers of 3 or 4 years old, and a pre_Yosemite OS, Trim may have been interesting to install, I did it on all SSds then, and I am using SSDs already for 5 years. but in the last 2 years the SSD controllers are so advanced that - when overprovisioning is enough, trim does not add anything anymore. In Yosemite it is certainly unrealistic to do because you have to disrobe an important layer of security.

  • Missed to extract RDBMS_SAP_64.zip before installing Oracle

    Hi Gurus,
I am installing solution manager 7.0 on solaris 10.
As per installation guide before installing ORacle we should extract the RDBMS_SAP_64.zip  file in /oracle/stage/102_64/database... but i missed this step.
Right now installtion is going well( ABAP loads phase is going on now).
Will i get any problems in further steps.
Is it mandatory to do the above step before oracle installation or we can do even before oracle patch applying.
    Please clarify my doubt.....
    Thanks,
    Balu
Edited by: Balu.. on Feb 26, 2009 1:56 AM

    The question is:
did you call the RUNINSTALLER script to install the database?
That zip file contains an actual version of that RUNINSTALLER script with actual parameters since the database DVDs are not more changed.

    Hey Arjen Ronhaar,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues updating your iPhone to iOS 7. If you have not already done so, you may want to restart or reset the iPhone:
