Question for 11g OCA certifications

Hi All,
I completed the 1Z0-007: Intro to 9i SQL back in 2003 and never got round to completing the other cert exams.
My question is, is this exam still valid or would the first exam need to take place again? Do the exam reults expire?
I see it is still mentioned as as one of the exams you can complete for it.
Thanks for the help.
Stuart

Yes, you are very much eligible for writing OCA 11g Certification Exams. All you need to do is, while registering for OCA Exam, that show your Oracle 9i SQL Exam details to the Prometric center and other details when you passed that exam.
For more information on OCA/OCP 11g Exams take a look at the below URL.

  • Oracle 11g OCA certification

I am newbie .I would like to know a good book for Oracle 11g OCA certification ,1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052(with lesser number of mistakes).Appreciate a response.

I can tell you from personal experience that it is extraordinarily difficult to write a technical book with zero defects. Spell-checkers and grammar checkers produce huge numbers of false positives when looking for standard (i.e. non technical) errors. Technical errors are easy to introduce -- forget to add a 'Not' in a sentence, or something similar -- and hard to detect afterward. When I read through my study guides looking for errors, I tend to see what I meant to write.
That said, such defects are normally a tiny fraction of the information contained within certification manuals. A couple of reviews on the Oracle Press 1Z0-052 book written by John Watson mention a couple of errors and then imply the book is filled with more. I've read the book and it is very informative. It contains hundreds of pieces of information and contains about ten errors -- all mentioned in the errata on the McGraw Hill site. The books is good preparation for the text and for learning the basics of being an Oracle DBA.
As Aman indicated, using more than one source is a good way to help to detect inaccuracies. I believe in always using multiple sources and the documentation is generally a good option for that.

  • Sample questions for Business One certification

    Hi
I am looking  some sample questions for SAP business one implementation consultant certification exam.
please Gurues , help me in this matter. I am going to write certification in next week
    thanks
    Preeti Sati

    Hi Preeti,
the test is not that easy, I found that I really had to read the questions carefully & the multiple-choice answers even more carefully. Some of the answers initially looked as if they were saying the same thing & I needed to look twice to discern the tiny difference. It's these tiny differences that made it difficult, in my opinion.
Generally, I thought it touched on most aspects of 2007, with particular emphasis on the enhancements from lower versions. But if you have a good understanding of the product, look at all the e-learning & also, very important, at the available ETS & documentation, you should do well.I found the e-learning a bit limited & definitely benefited from the other materials available on the SMP.
    Good Luck!
    All the best,
    Kerstin

  • Capacity planning question for 11g DB server

We are building a new 2-node RAC cluster for our new application; what is the general rule of thumb for number of CPUs, memory?
    env: 2-node RAC, RH5, 11gR2

If this is a packaged application, the application vendor should be able to help you with this sort of sizing since they know what factors are going to be most important to resource utilization.
If this is a custom application, you'd need to talk to the development and architecture teams that built the application. Without any idea what the application is doing, we don't even know what metrics to ask about in order to guess at the requirements. For some systems, it will be the number of users. For other systems, it will be the types of users or the modules that are configured. Some systems will scale based on the amount of data, others will be independent of data volume but will depend on the number of middle tier servers. And it will always depend heavily on how efficient the code is-- a system that is built to take advantage of Oracle and to maximize efficiency, for example, will require much less hardware to do the same amount of work than a system that is built to be database agnostic that hasn't been optimized for efficiency.

The problems start when people are imprecise about the certification they are seeking ... the list is here ....

If you notice there is no mention of '11g oca' or '9i oca' in the list.
    There is mention of:
    - Oracle 11g DBA OCA
    - Oracle9i DBA OCA
    - Oracle PL/SQL Developer OCA
And one can drill down links to see the requirements for these certifcations:
for example for a - Oracle PL/SQL Developer OCA a pass in one of (1z0-007 or 1z0-047 or 1z0-051 (or 1z0-001) ) plus a pass in one of (1z0-144 or 1z0-147) is required.
    There is a post from mediaguy (that goes to a blog that is currently unavailable at the time of this post ... but will proably be fixed in a day or two) that I feel has a chance of being relevant also (note i have not read it yet). {thread:id=1049842}

  • Exams to take for DB 11g OCA

I'm still new to Oracle. In fact I''ve just been hired to handle Oracle E-Business Suite along with the Oracle Database 10g. I'm quite interested in taking certification in 11g OCA. And maybe OCP in the next 2-3 years. I read the prereq for OCA is 1Z0-051 - SQL Fundamentals 1 for 11g and 1Z0-052 - DB Admin I. I'm quite confident with my SQL syntax since I've been working with SQL for 2.5 years in my previous employment. So I'm thinking about taking the SQL Fundamentals I first, then take training for 1Z0-052, practice DB Admin for a year then taking the 1Z0-052 exam.
    1. Is this doable?
    2. Is it possible that in one year period, the prereq for 11g OCA could change? (the prereq exams for 11g OCA is changed to 1Z0-047 - SQL Expert + 1Z0-052) and thus renderring my 1Z0-051 exam worthless?
    3. Where can I download Self test for exam preparation? Free would be preferrable, because the test I found cost about US99. I'm assuming this is allowed because I read many threads that's asking basically the same thing and are considered cheating.
    Thanks.

I dont think the pre-req for 11g OCA wil change again.

  • Regarding 11g OCA and OCP exams

    Hi,
I have 10g OCA. Now i am planning to write 11g OCA and OCP. Do i need to write 11g OCA or can i upgrade my 10g OCA to 11g.
Can any one please let me know how to prepare for 11g OCA and OCP. any web links or any text books do i need to follow in order to get good score in both certifications

There is no upgrade path for the OCA certification. You'd need to take the 11g OCA exams. Assuming we're talking about the DBA track (there are many different tracks), you should have passed one of the SQL exams when you got your 10g OCA so you probably only need to take one more exam for the 11g OCA.
All of Oracle's documentation is online at http://tahiti.oracle.com. You should be able to find more than enough information about all the exam topics there.

  • OCA Certification

i recently enrolled for the OCA Certification for which i was to sit for 1ZO-051 exam and 1ZO-052 exams. I have already sat for the first exam( 1ZO-051) and am yet to sit for the second exam. Recently i checked on thew oracle website; they had written something to the effect the OCA Certification has been discontinued and that nearest certfication is OCP. please advise as am abit confused

The OCA is unlikely to go away any time soon.  If for some strange reason OU decided to do away with it, they would have to give lots of advance notice.

  • Mandatory prereq training for 11g OCP !!

    Hi
I cleared 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 and have attended '10g Admin I' training few years back but this training does not list in 'approved courses' list of prerequisite for 11g OCP certification. Is there any workaround to avoid spending money on mandatory prereq course (which is of no use as I am working on 11g for past 3 years) and make use of '10g Admin I' training as prereq ?
    Please advise.

AmarI suggest to To Avoid spending any BIG money.
    (1) Submit your '10g Admin 1' course as a 10g DBA pre-req exam and ensure it has been recognised for 10g DBA OCP
    (2) Pass 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 for 10g DBA OCP
    (3) Pass either 1z0-050 or 1z0-053 for 11g DBA OCP (1z0-053 is relevant for you as you have a 1z0-052 pass)
Difference is 3 exams (+ retakes) + time versus 1 exam (+ retakes) + more training (3 days courses cheapest) + time.
NB: 10g courses will not be accepted for 11g certifications (the reverse will however often be true)

  • OCA certification and remainder function

Hello, I'm studying for the OCA certification and need help to understand how the remainder function works.
    I read that (http://www.techonthenet.com/oracle/functions/remainder.php) the remainder(m,n) is calculated as: m - (n * X) where X is the integer nearest m / n.
    I ask: why remainder(12.5,5)=2.5 ?
According to me the result should be >>> remainder(12.5,5)=12.5-(5*[the integer nearest 12.5/5])=12.5-(5*3)=-2.5.
    Thanks for your replies. Regards.

    Actually X = [m/n] = floor(m / n), i.e. the integer nearest m/n rounded down.
    So remainder(12.5, 5) = 12.5 - 5*2 = 2.5You sure about that?
    SQL> select 12.6/5, floor(12.6/5) from dual;

          2.52             2

           2.6
    SQL> select remainder(12.6,5) from dual;
    REMAINDER(12.6,5)
                 -2.4
SQL>Looks like the rounding is a little odd. Typically rounding goes upwards when it get's to .5 of a number, but remainder takes .5 downwards and anything above that upwards...
    SQL> select remainder(12.50000000000001,5) from dual;
    REMAINDER(12.50000000000001,5)
                              -2.5
SQL>It does seem a little odd behaviour.
Me, I just prefer using MOD(m,n), cos then I know what I'm getting. ;)

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?
