Question for DEV Team

My work flow uses one sequence to render multipal small projects.  As far as I can tell you have killed support for this by not allowing me to turn off magnetic timelines, or set in and out points.  I have included a photo of how I have used your past product to quickly create segments on similar topics for commerical projects.
Sadly because these features are not available in Final Cut X, as far as I can tell, it makes my work flow that I have developed with your software somewhat harder to work with.
I have included an image of how I work in FCP 7.   Are there work arounds?  Do you plan to reimpliment these simple features, IN and OUT points, and disabling of the magnetic timeline?  Are they already in there, if so how to I access them?  I like much of how FCP X works, I just cannot use it with my work flow, or reccomend it for professional applications involving mass producing videos.  For all it's sleakness, its slow and clunky when it comes to volume production of short similar videos.
This allows me to see many videos on the screen, and assemble them quickly, and make changes, with out switching from sequence to sequence.
What are my solutions?

Thanks, any idea how I can get ahold of them, or show them what I'm looking for.  I understand your solution, I'm just hoping they can simplify the thing to skip that step.  The magnetic timeline also forces the use of slugs, which hinders me.  I feel like I would have to constantly adjust them to move things around or make room, or make a series of them, to manipulate or something kookie like that, just to have room to manipulate my movie objects on the time like.  I don't understand why It can't just be turned off.

  • Site check // website intro // suggestions for dev team

Hello, my name is XDude and I'm reliving my glory days of when I used to make long, elaborate website intros in Macromedia Flash.
    Just kidding.
But I did make this today: http://12voltwizard.com/intro/
(Ultra rough first draft, takes a while to load, don't blink or you might miss the animation.)
    For everybody:
Aside from the long loading time, does it work on all your fabulous devices, tablets, etc.?
    For the devs:
The program has certainly come a long way since version 1! Thanks so much for including all the lessons right inside the program, it made the learning process super-easy.
Overall, making the animation was mostly painless. I did find myself a bit bewildered by the lack of a "modify the background color of the document body" (not just the stage) or "add a body background image" feature. (Unless that's what a down-level stage is?)
My hax0ring skilz were also a little too weak to get the preloader image to appear in the center of the page...
If there could be a way to move the playhead with the keyboard (like hitting the Page Down key in After Effects or Premiere) that'd be awesome.
Other than that ... well, I'm super-excited to see that Flash 3 lives again!!

I just had a look at it in Chrome... performance was crap!
Can anyone else also look in Chrome and let me know?
P.S. the graphics are a bit low-res for desktop (it's mostly designed for mobile users).
    Thanks

  • A how to question for JDev team

    Hi,
I am learning to develop JSP application using BC4J.
Using wizards, I am able to get a
default view of the current record. However, I would like to change the layout display. Probably this needs to be done without using the wizards. How can I do this using BC4J? Could you please refer me to some sample code/documentation? I am currently using JDeveloper 3.1.
    Thanks.

    1. Upgrade to JDeveloper 3.2 which makes >BC4J interaction simple and reliable.I strongly recommend option #1.
Unless you have some constraints, I would recommend moving upto JDeveloper 3.2 which offers support for JSP 1.1 custom tags. JSP tags make it easier to customize your page. You do most of your layout management in HTML and use the tags to get the data.
The follownig collateral at http://technet.oracle.com/products/jdev/ might be of help:
1.Building JSP Applications with BC4J Data Tags (paper)
    2.BC4J Data Tags demo script
Also, the updated Online Orders tutorial in the product has a complete web app developed using the new JSP tags.

    Arun

  • Question for JDEVELOPER TEAM

    Hi
Oracle for each product has .pdf manuals
but nothing for jdeveloper, In releases 1.0,2.0,3.0, ...
    Why?
    null

The organization of the docs we deliver--around narrow tasks, heavily cross-linked--does not translate well into PDF or book format.
If you want a print guide to JDeveloper, there are two options:
    A) There is a third-party book, by Paul Dorsey, coming out in a month or so.
    B) If you are using HTML help (which is likely if you have Internet Explorer on your machine), you can print out a large section of the current help system at once using the following procedure:
    1) Choose Help | Help topics
    2) In the left-hand pane, right-click the folder that interests you and choose Print.
    3) In the dialog that opens, select "Print the selected heading and all subtopics."
This will print the entire contents of the folder.

  • N8 camera: question for Nokia team (Damian Dinning...

First: I love my N8, including it's camera.
I am an enthusiast photographer, both with my phone (N82 for last 3 years, now N8) and dedicated camera.
Now to the point: in several situations, N8 seems to add some "bluish fog" to the picture, sometimes even on screen before taking the picture. I'd attaching 2 pictures, taken using the very same settings (full auto), just changing a little bit the angle. There are inside a house, no external factors...
I'd like to hear different opinions about what happened.

that is definitely glare into the lens. i would have thought most likely from the flash.
if you have your left hand near the flash or lens then the bounce back would do it.
it could be an external light source bouncing into the lens from the chroming. but you would be able see it in the preview.
There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

  • Question for htmldb team

Will next release support popupkey_from_query column type in tabular form wisard?

    Hello,
Yes there is a performance hit since every item you load needs to make a database connection to retrieve that item and then http to serve it instead of just an http request to Apache. Plus it's difficult for browsers to cache items loaded from the database so most the time they have to load it every single time.
Apache is very good at serving up static content from the filesystem and browsers are very good at caching content from it (sometimes too good).I would recommend putting as much static content as you can on the filesystem and letting Apache do what it does best.
    Thanks,
    Carl

  • 3D Widgets and Contact with Dev Team

Hi there folks, Top Of The Mornin' from a new member of the iBooks Author community based in Ireland.
My company has just uploaded an iBook to the store, and are awaiting approval for the various markets.
When we initially installed iBooks Author, we were very interested in the 3D Widget capabilities as our background is real-time 3D.  Using the tried and tested trial and error approach, we were able to work through some of the issues, right from the basics ( how to get a textured object to appear ), through to more advanced options ( animations, setting up scenes for eye-cam view rather than spin around view, balancing the pivot point for more complex spin-around views ).
The iBook we uploaded uses 3D widgets extensively ( almost on every page ).  During its creation, we had however a number of crashes with iBooks Author, and we hope to work with the iBook Author team to help get these resolved ( it's most likely that the bugs are there as 3D Widgets are fairly new and haven't been pushed to their limits so far ).
We also have a number of feature requests for 3D interaction that we have implemented in our own custom 3D interactive scenes ( eg http://www.armaghplanet.com/3d ), that we would like to engage with the team to see if some of them can be introduced to the 3D Widgets in order to help both ourselves and of course any other iBooks author who wishes to use a 3D Widget within their content.
Regarding getting in contact with the dev team, there doesn't seem to be ( or at least I haven't seen ) a way to directly contact them.  Hopefully there is a forum which the dev team visit and answer questions / chat with iBooks users about requested features etc.  If someone could help point me in the right direction for a contact, I would be very grateful.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice on this...
    Mal

The only official avenue for contacting developers I know of is to join the Apple Developer Program and submit bug reports and feature requests. I've submitted quite a few bug reports for IBA, and have received fairly timely responses, typically asking for more information, such as memory dumps.
For anything beyond this, I suspect you will need an inside contact.

  • What was the dev team thinking with Firefox v29?

So I was just auto-upgraded to firefox 29, and I need to know: What exactly was the dev team thinking when they designed it? Title bar disabled by default? Total removal of the add-on bar? Tabs forcibly on top? Seriously, stop trying to be chrome. Chrome is aesthetically and functionally terrible, why do you keep trying to emulate them? I can't speak for the community, but for myself and for people I know, one of the main reasons we use firefox is because we strongly dislike chromes layout. For the time being, I've downgraded to v28, and disabled auto-updates.

Let's take advantage of the fact that we have Developers around.
You are obviously unhappy with the development decisions, and that is normally off topic in this forum, but right now because of Firefox 29 Release we will have Developers around popping in to the forum. I will add an escalate tag. If we are lucky a Developer may give an explanation and a proper answer to your question.

  • Create Separate Master Rep for DEV, QA & PROD or just use Contexts

In line with a previous question I posed on the usage of Contexts for the "ODI touted" one set of code for various environments, I'm wondering in implementation, how many architects have actually used Contexts in the place of different environments (and hence code sets) for DEV, QA and PROD.
Example, I could have an ODI Master/Work for a DEV environment and then when I move to QA/TEST, I'll have another ODI Master/Work and another ODI Master/Work for PROD. This way, I have true change management and ODI Object Code will be locked from after it leaves the DEV environment. Export from the DEV Master/Work and Import into the QA Master/Work; as well import from QA to PROD Master/Work.
I've been in an ODI application environment where we did just as above in order to ensure the integrity of the code set (i.e. locked after DEV).
The other approach is to have just one Master/Work (or multiple Works for Execution or such) and then use the Contexts in the Topology to point to different physical servers. Although this allows for 1 set of code (in the previous approach when Export/Import from DEV to QA you still have to change the physical data server in QA), there's less integrity in the code set.
So long story short, I'm just wondering what you all have done from an architecture standpoint; pros/cons and etc. Thanks for the input.

    1. One master for DEV & QA ( Multiple Work repository), One Master for prod (Execution work repository)
    Merits:
    -Easier to maintain.
-If you need the complete project in QA without export/import of each object, solution will be the best approach to implement it. Just restore the solution in QA environment.
-No need to take special care about the logical schema as you are using the same master repository that was in QA.
-It will take less time to test each objects.
-Once the testing is done promote scenarios to production.
-The very common issue regarding id conflict will not occur frequently.
    Demerits:
-Sharing the same topology between dev & qa will create unnecessary issues like a developer can have the privilege to change the physical dataserver details. Even if you restrict from editing/deleting, the number of logical schema will goes on increasing day by day. So here you have to have a dedicated admin who will take care of this topology part. But if I would have been there I must have given full privileges to the developers in dev env.
-If QA env will be a work repository then you have to restrict all testers from modifying the objects or else you can only promote scenarios to QA.
-If you have different physical connection for QA env, then security concerns may arise as the connection details going to shared between one master repository.
    2. Multiple master and work for each environment.
    Merits:
-All teams are independent as you have different env.
-There is nothing to be concerned about security related issues as you have different topology for different env.
-Once the DEV team is done with the project, promote only scenarios/loadplans to PROD through QA.
-Easier to maintain the versions as you have separate env.
    Demerits:
-Chances of getting id conflict issues.
    -Difficult to maintain.
-Special care must be taken to keep the logical schema name same across all env.
Other experts also can share their experience. But the common thing for each of us is to keep production completely different in terms of work and master repository.

  • (BUG REPORT) Kudos to the Dev Team OS 2.0 Rocks Major Improvement

Kudos to the BB Playbook OS 2.0 Dev Team (Excellent Release!!)I want to give my personal thanks as a loyal blackberry customer to the Developer/ Coding Team over at RIM. I am thoroughly impressed with the update. I absolutely love the reader feature. The new home screen and folders is implemented wonderfully. Also, it appears battery life has been improved (No easy task). Great job.
There are a few little bugs to be fixed for the next maintanence update.
    1. Flash is not polished, it's only partially working.
The daily show (with John Stewart) (www.thedailyshow.com)(full episodes link), and several other flash video webistes have trouble with the controls (play, pause). The controls either don't show, or don't function, or neither, or function sporadically. Also, possibly an app could be created so that a flash video stream would open in a separate window allowing the controls to function correctly if there is some reason it is difficult in the web browswer. I can get the daily show playing but, pausing it, or fastforwarding, now that's a challenge. Make the buttons larger maybe (I don't know if that's possible, not familiar with flash.)
    2. Media Player: The media player has some bug in the code that is causing it to become choppy when scrolling through the list of songs.  I have some album art, and maybe that has something to do with it. But I didn't notice it before the update.
Also, it may be a neat idea to add some different color backgrounds to the music player skin(Hot pink, or something) to take care of the lady geeks, women buy stuff too, think all girl dorm room full of playbooks. Also, it is kind of a less than sexy music player skin (Unlike the new home screen wow, very polished.) Also, because all my music doesn't have album art, it makes the music player look strange. Some of the icons have only 3 of 4 pictures filled in Looks weird.
Also, when fast forwarding with the slider bar clicking with my finger causes a slight pop in the earphones (It needs to mute, then fastforward, then unmute, then play.) Imagine a playbook hooked up at a wedding to a 5000 dollar soundsystem, pop, then bye bye speakers.
    3. Book Reader Power Mode - I was using "Book Reader" app from the app store and I noticed something that could be fixed. The truth is that when people read ebooks, the power managment settings should be a little different. I suggest adding a 3rd power managment mode that the ebook reader apps can access. That way, every time I open an ebook it sets the screen to stop going dim every 30 seconds like I would use for messages and general use throughout the day. It should stay the same in this mode rather plugged in or not. The screen brightness should not be affected by the power plug either. "Nothing like waking the wife up with the flashlight tablet because it was going dead and you decided to plug it in while reading your technical manual at 2am."
    4. Silent on schedule (Totally Silent, VIP Vibrate, VIP ring) (A feature that I wished both my bold 9700, and playbook had was a feature I'll call silent on schedule. The idea is simple, for the most part people know what time they need their phone to shut up and be quiet. Why can't RIM integrate silent mode with our calenders. A simple checkbox in the calender options and your phone (and playbook) will automatically stay silent, except for VIPs. It goes without saying that your ringer should go to normal at the end of the meeting, or court appearance (lots of lawyers use blackberry), lot's of students would appreciate this too. It would save us from having to constantly be changing our ringing mode all day. If I were RIM I would patent that one. (If you do, and want to send me a new touch screen phone as a thanks that's cool with me, but not required, just free thoughts for you to use however you want.)
    5. Strange WiFi (The playbook has a strange issue where sometimes the wifi displays near zero. I don't know if this is software or hardware. My MBP and Bold 9700 have no such issue. It's a cisco/linksys router with dual g/n.
    6. Before I forget, the web browswer is now awesome. Load times are acceptable. I would like to add though that of all the web browswer's the style, and color of this one is not what I would call "in fashion."
    7. Idea: create an over the air sync system for the blackberry bridge. It should always keep the contacts, calender and maybe photos updated. Since, someone surely has a patent on this one, let me suggest a workaround called 1 at a time. Do an initial sync via usb to both devices on the desktop manager. Then only one device has to ever be connected to sync to laptop, as the other one syncs over bluetooth one item (contact, calender entry, photo at a time.)
    8. Not always on bluetooth. Something tells me that it is not the most secure thing to leave the bluetooth constantly running and connected giving those keys over the air. Maybe it could connect at intervals (or upon status change (message, new contact, calender entry)). This might also save battery too. Just a thought.
I know how easy it is to forget about style, when mechanics are tinkiering around with the insides, but make the fastest car ugly, and no one will buy it. Also, Bill Gates was asked while in the presence of Steve Jobs what was the one thing Steve had he wished he had... Bill Gates said roughly "I wish I had Steve's eye for Style."
The truth is as technology advances, it will fade to the background. Fashion will be where people meed the device. People love a good running car, but gorgeous get's em into the showroom.
Oh yea, like the new keyboard a lot.

Have I mentioned how much i love my playbook now Great job on os 2.0

  • Please answer a programming question for an admin

I'm not a programmer (although my interest is growing), so I can't answer this question in a discussion regarding how Win32API w/OLE and COM is SO much better than programming for Unix/OS X applications.
The original discussion was in regards to OS X's superior Unix based security, he devolved to this. Having only begun my venture into programming, his questions are a little above my head at this point. I'm also interested (as an amature programmer), how this would be accomplished in OS X/Unix.
    Thanks in advance.
    Here's his position:
    *(1st entry)*
I have unsed Windows and many flavors of Unix and I have written programs in Assembler, Fortran, Pascal, Cobol, RPG, Smalltak, Basic, PowerBuilder, Delphi, C, C++, C#, Java, and Perl, and I have been programming for over 20 years, so I do have extensive knowledge about programming.
So I have one question for you:
If you had to build a business application that has to allow users to, spell and grammer check, and perform financial calculations, and render the HTML, how would you compare the effort to do this in Windows versus that in Linux, AIX, Solaris or any other Unix operating system?
I can make this business application have these features in ONE DAY on Windows, because COM and OLE lets me, use Word to spell and grammer check, Excel to do the financial calculations, and IE to render the HTML!
I make my living building complex customized business software, and Windows allow me to build these applications by myself in weeks, when it would take me and a team of programmers months to do these same things in Unix because of the lack of an the Win32 API, COM, and OLE, or I would have to BUY third party libraries that did these things, and deal with the licensing, versioning, and vendor problems that go with them, and none of those third party librabries would be close to Word, Excel, and IE in CAPABILITY!
HONESTLY tell me and others reading this thread how you would go about create the customized business application I described above by yourself in a Unix instead of Windows, and tell us how many MONTHS or YEARS it would take you, or how you would have to BUY some other third party libraries to do what Word, Excel, and IE!
Anyone who thinks a Unix has more CAPABILITIES than Windows, has never used Win32API/COM/OLE/.Net, and does not build customized complex business software for a living, because we people that do are the reason that you find some much customized business desktop software for Windows, and so little for any Unix.
I have nothing against Unix, and it is great for simple business tasked server software, but for complex business tasked desktop software Windows with Win32API/COM/OLE/.Net wins hands down!
    *(2nd Entry)*
A System administrators view of an operating system and an application developers view are entirely different, and the Win32API/COM/OLE/.NET simply make my job so much easier, and you simply don't understand because you do not have to deal with the "dirty' details of making what a user wants, which is why your definition of "integration" and mines are totally different!
With the spell check you talked about, how will you keep in in synch with the dictionary in Word where the user is constantly adding and removing words?
No, you would have the user to have to maintain two different spell check dictionaries, and you would totally ignore the grammer check requirement!
Cutting and pasting data between applications is simple integration, and not the complex type that I am talking about.
Can you make your application display and use the MacGourmet menus appear in its own window, and to access and use the MacGourmet functionality (ie. search for a recipe) in its own window?
Give me one example of a Unix application that can display the menus of another application, yet alone control its features!
Of course you can't, because you need COM and OLE!
I am quite familiar with different flavors of Unix, but those operating systems do not have the rich API and program integration features namely COM and OLE that Windows has, because it violates the Unix idea of security by process isolation!
Yes that idea of process isolation keeps the operating system safe from malicious code in applications and from one application taking the others down, but you lose the power of programs working together, and you simply cannot build the type of customized business applications that I build by myself, without reinventing the wheel over and over and without having a large team with lots of programmers.
For example, my customers and millions of others spend all day working in Word and Excel, and the Windows idea that I can transparently integrate my complex business applications right in Word and Excel menu, and into their templates and macros, is why third party developers like me prefer Windows over Unix, regardless of how much better security in Unix is.
Do not get me wrong, Java improves business application development on Unix, but unfortuantely it is not feasable to rewrite ever legacy application in Java, and Java does not integrate well with other programming languages.
I used to code business application for both IBM MVS and Sun Solaris, and I never want to go back to those "bad" old days again, once I took the time to learn how to PROPERLY code using Win32API/COM/OLE/.NET!

At risk of feeding the troll I'll wander in here:
NOTE: Since this is an Apple programming boards and I have limited experience programming on traditional Unix systems (and most of that in college) I will confine my answers to the area I know.
Note that this scenario assumes the user has Microsoft office installed. The person argues that they don't have to purchase libraries to program but what they are effectively doing is simply transferring that cost to user. I don't have to purchase libraries but everyone of my users needs to. Good for you, very good for Microsoft but bad for your customer - IMHO. OK, I know "But all Windows business users have Office installed already." When it comes free with the system then I'll retract my objection.
Under OS X and Cocoa many of these functions are intrinsic to the system layer and do not require any applications to be installed. Using Cocoa you can write a simple Word processor that has rulers, full font manipulation (including kerning, spacing and leading), Document Save and Load, Printing, Export to PDF as well as spell-checking in under 10 lines of actual code. Adding a custom file type and icon for full system integration will add another 5 minutes to your programing.
In case you think I'm blowing smoke here is a tutorial from 2002 (yes, this has been possible for over 5 years) outlining the 8 line Word Processor build in Cocoa. http://www.stone.com/TheCocoa_Files/What_s_sofunny.html
And yes, Cocoa also includes Webkit so I can add full HTML rendering by dragging in a WebKit window to my user interface. For an experienced Cocoa programmer this certainly sounds like less than a day of programming - in fact it sounds like a good tutorial for a middle-experienced training day or 2 day class in Cocoa.
I won't include the link to the 1 line web browser you can build in Cocoa using Webkit because it's shorter than the description. Feel free to search for it if you want to.
HONESTLY tell me and others reading this thread how you would go about create the customized business application I described above by yourself in a Unix instead of Windows, and tell us how many MONTHS or YEARS it would take you, or how you would have to BUY some other third party libraries to do what Word, Excel, and IE!
BUT this is all done from the stock system that is on every OS X computer not simply those with Office installed. Obviously you'd need to add some features that were more complicated than this - because any halfway decent programmer could turn this stuff out - and polish takes a while but to meet the requirements of the challenge it would take 2 days tops.
Is every *nix programming environment like this? I don't know I can only answer for the system that I have experience with and is the concern of this board. If you really have questions regarding *nix programming then I suggest you find an appropriate board and troll^H^H^H^H^H ask there.
If you're ever serious about programming on the Mac feel free to stop by and actually take a look at it. I think you'll be surprised.

Question: I have read through some forum and wiki answers in sdn and many explain that give SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW to BI consultants and in addition give 0bi_all, SAP_BW_DEVELOPER and much more.
Can some body list what are the needed Roles for this kind of users ?
I know in theory many talk, do not assign SAP_ALL, but the person who advice this never explained the best alternative, and none of them I know have practially told that they have not assigned SAP_ALL.
Please explain . I think asnwering my question will bury many questions in this fourm .

    Hi Nick,
Did you get the answer? I'm lookinf for the same information about profiles.
    Thanks!!

  • CRM Related Questions for Configuring Service Desk in Solution Manager

    Hi All,
We have 3 requirements while configuring service desk in solution manager:
    1) Is there any possibility that we can restrict view of messages in solman for different teams. E.g: Finance Support team should not view message raised for Material Management Team ?
    2) Is there any possibility in service desk that we can assign message on the basis of location e.g: message raised for finance from location A should go to different support team of finance and for location B, it should go to different finance team ?
    3) Is there any possibility that we can make some question necessary while user is raising very high priority message from satellite system e.g: when we raise Very high priority message on service market place, we need to answer few mandatory questions ?
I tried to search these functionality in standard scenario but I am not able to find something relevant. Please suggest.
