Question for HDV JVC GY100 users

I've been using the JVC GY100 camera for about 5 months now and really love it. I'm shooting a documentary project and decided to shoot in HDV 30P because I had heard there were problems with HDV in the 24P mode when editing with FCP. Although the footage looks great most of the time, there is one thing that really bothers me. It's a frequent vibrating (moree - spelling?) that occurs when shooting bright objects, usually with striped patterns. I was advised to reduce the detail setting on the camera, and this has helped a bit. However, on another job, I was required to shoot (with the same camera) in SD24P. I must say, I really prefer the appearance of the footage in this mode. There was no moree effect, I had more latitude with F stops, focuse was a little less critical, and it looked way more like film, not to mention, it takes up far less hard drive space. I'm seriously considering switching all of my projects to SD24 P, but I know it will cause massive complications. I know the down conversion from HDV to SD is not a problem, but what about HDV30P to SD 24P? Am I crazy to do this? I'm really not sure what the great advantage of HDV is, other than cause headaches.

When you shoot in DV, you get every frame of video. The compression only comes into play in each frame. With HDV, it uses groups of frames. So instead of each frame having to have all of its info, HDV relies on the ones before it to see what needs to be changed in the next frame and what can just remain the same. So you end up compressing the video much like a DVD. Take a trip to google on "HDV" or "GOP Compression" for more info.
But in a nutshell, HDV gets smaller than DV by relying on the processing power of the decoder, rather than data space.
The JVC cameras have alot of settings. I would agree with your friend on the sharpness thing though.
Comparing with 30p, the 24p will give you a much more "filmish" look in my opinion.

Tom Daigon Great idea everybody! Encourage Adobe to do ONLY ONE THING with AE for 2014. Since theres not a heck of a lot of development that can be done on the present foundation, they can really stretch the rental scheme out for many years. And once you get used to the concept, every year they will do ONE THING to placate you. So now they have you swallowing no "ownership" of software and limited development.

  • Question for Digital Media Mac Users on whether a Mac would make sense??

Hello once again, and thank you for reading.
After trying to figure what lower-priced Mac that I could afford for school...I am left with this question for some of you graphic designers and website designers.....
If I already have a WInXP machine with a AMD x2 5050e, 2 GB Ram, Soundblaster Audigy, and a ATI x1650Pro video card.......
Is it worth investing in a Mac to begin with? I would like to learn more on the OSX and the Mac in general as it is still highly used in the career field...I have seen job descriptions where knowing a Mac was a definite plus.
The Mac I could afford would not be more powerful than my WinXP, just different (and yes, more stable). (mini, G5, Dual g4, etc)
Comments and Advice from the experts out there would really be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Brian.

If you just want to learn the Mac system, why not try to find a used model? If you already have a desktop PC, you could go for a few-generations-old Mini, and use your current keyboard, monitor and mouse (provided they're USB and not PS2). You could even get a KVM if you don't want to be fussed swapping cables around. Check eBay and also lowendmac.com for prices. If you think you'd prefer expandability, a used PowerMac G4 should be around $200-300.

  • Several questions for first time Aperture user

    Hello all, first time user here. Downloaded the trial and am thinking about purchasing the full version. I have a few questions here;
    1. If I click buy to get the serial number, after authorizing the program, will the "Trial" word disappear from all the menus and setting? And will the library name changed from Aperture 3 Trial Library automatically to just Aperture 3 Library?
    2. When I start importing photos from camera into A3, will I be able to use iPhoto to view or edit if I delete the original iPhoto library? In short, will iPhoto be able to share the same library when I start using A3?
    3. After importing all existing photos from iPhoto, should and can I delete my iPhoto library?
    4. Will I be able to use and install A3 on both my laptop and iMac at the same time or is it restricted to 1 computer?
    Thanks all.

I don't think it will change the library name, but you should create a new library and import the trial library anyway IMHO
    2. When I start importing photos from camera into A3, will I be able to use iPhoto to view or edit if I delete the original iPhoto library? In short, will iPhoto be able to share the same library when I start using A3?
In short: no, but you can view the images from one library in the other and drag them in if you like.
    3. After importing all existing photos from iPhoto, should and can I delete my iPhoto library?
You can, but wait until you know everything is working right and backed up.
    4. Will I be able to use and install A3 on both my laptop and iMac at the same time or is it restricted to 1 computer?
Yes the EULA allows a desktop and a laptop but not simultaneously. (If they're on the same network, it won't allow you to run them simultaneously.)

  • Quick question for a fledging acrobat user

    Hello all,
First I apologize for what I assume will be an elementary question. I am new to Adobe Acrobat and I have been given the exciting challenge of converting all of our business documents into fillabe PDF forms.
I am using Adobe Acrobat X Pro, and I have some knowledge in acrobat just  from learning and reading and trying things on my own in my attempts to get the owner to buy adobe acrobat. I was able to download a free trial and to convert a form we use to assess a client's financial situation into a fillabel PDF and show it to my boss (the owner) which convinced him to open up the coffers and purchase Adobe Acrobat X Pro for me.
I am interested in what books and or adobe sponsored classes I should take in what order to become more proficient in adobe with the end goal being to obtain certification. I have been given the go ahead for most of this to be paid for by my company but I want to ensure that I am taking the appropriate classses and being financial responsible. There is such a wealth of information and choices that I am hesitant to choose without some guidance.
All feedback is appreciated, hope everyone is having a great week.
    Paul McBride

One more thing. There are two different types of PDF forms you can create with software included in Acrobat 10: Acroforms and XFA forms. Acroforms are what you create in Acrobat and XFA forms are what you create in the separate application LiveCycle Designer. For a good discussion of the differences, see: http://acrobatusers.com/blogs/thomp/so-what-difference-between-acroforms-and-xfa
I'd suggest beginning by concentrating on Acroforms. Move to XFA forms if you need to take advantage of what dynamic XFA forms provide.

  • Question for P6N SLI Platinum User : Does ALC888 support Dolby Digital Encoding?

Hello to all P6N SLI Platinum users here,
I have one question regarding Dolby Digital Encoding support on this motherboard. By default, ALC888 does not support Dolby Digital Encoding. But I am still curious. Can you please check on your motherboard, does it support Dolby Digital encoding or DTS Live Connect output to SPDIF? (You may check it by Realtek HD Audio Manager control panel. If there exist such setting option, it means it does support.)
The reason I ask this is I am thinking to switch from 975X Platinum to this board, I am unable to try this myself here as it requires me to reinstall my OS in order to load to WinXP
    Thanks in advance.

    have a look here:
    http://en.allexperts.com/e/d/do/dolby_digital.htm
according to info there its support Dolby Digital Live

  • Questions for experienced GB3/podcast users

havent read a single thing about podcasting etc
yet i know GB 2 like the back of my hand!
this is what i have in mind to do.
i have 1000's of photos. Pro shooter.
with a theme in mind id like to use ken burns effect and also introduce the themes ive written as background music on GB2 as background for the photo show.
so i would actually in essence have an Imovie with music.
i would then be able to introduce a vocal to narrate where the photos are from and interesting facts about them.
this is what i visualize happening.
    now...
do i really need GB3 to do this?
if i do use GB3 to do this what would be the advantages of using it? Can i edit in GB3 my photos to zoom and pan or must that come from an already pre made and imported imovie?
in another words all the podcasting will do for me would be to allow text some unnecessary sound effects????
please differentiate the two if you have experience already with doing imovie and podcasting on GB3. Please dont answer with " i guess you could do that" etc....
ofcourse putting this with iweb to a web site would be the kicker and that will happen.
    just the rudiments first
    thanks alot
please feel free to rant and rave about GB3 and what it can do for you with respect with my initial question

Hm. Certainly GB won't help you create the photo effects. I actually see two ways to accomplish this feat:
The hard way, if you want an exact sync of pics and music: Do your music in GB, import it into iMovie, edit your slideshow like you would edit a movie, and add the commentary on the second sound track.
Easier, but not very editable: Create a slide show in iPhoto, do your music in GB. While the slide show is running, record your commentary on another track in GB. Mix down the sound in GB and play the slide show in iPhoto, with your finished sound track as background music.
In the second version you have a constant change rate for the pics, automated effects and not very much control about music/picture alignment. And you can only present it, not turn it into a movie.

  • Question for Beta 3.0 users ( more home screens???)

Is apple giving us more than r 9 home screen that we have now except for the new spotlight screen. I sure hope so.

Yes but with the new spotlight homepage that doesn't look like that will be a big problem anymore finding your app. and running them. I just hate that i only have a 8 gig iphone and it is not even full because i have to delete a app to add more app's why give you the option of even putting bookmarks on the homescreen when you need the room for app's because you don't have enough pages. Apple wants you to buy app's and try out demo's but doesn't give you enough pages. Why give you a larger iphone? There is no shuffle for app's or smart playlist like music so it is alittle harder when you have lots of app's you are tryin out.

  • Question for more experienced Iphone users!

    Hey guys (and gals),
I'm very new to the Iphone (3GS, 32Gb) and would like someone to explain a small issue if possible. Firstly, if this has been asked and answered elsewhere then please forgive me. Secondly, it's a trivial isse (I hope) but its bugging the **** out of me.
Within Itunes all my albums are listed alphabetically by ARTIST and so was my Iphone until yesterday. However, my phone now lists the albums alphabetically by TITLE. Now I realise that within Itunes you can alter the view to list albums differently, but not within the Iphone, and "synching" does not put it back to normal.
I realise this is very small potatoes and if anybody out there has a solution or an idea I would be very grateful.
By the way I have tried restoring but the same happens. The only thing that I did differently yesterday was to download music videos which I have never done before.
    Take care.
    Grant.

    There are two methods:
    * iPod>Artists
    * hold the square button and wait for the blue screen>"Play song Atari" Atari being artist.
The iPod app should have provided you an artist icon below or under more tab. If you don't see Artists on the bottom, press the more then edit and choose drag the artist tab.

  • 2 stupid question - for Brain Dead iPad user

Tried to register iPad AppleCare Protection Plan on-line. Couldn't find registration number inside the box, only 2 pamphlets on getting started. Tried using the numbers on the sticker on outside of box but they didn't work either....Help?
Lastly, I purchased Breaking Bad season 1 in HD, downloaded and viewed all episodes. Tried to do same for season 2 and got error message I don't have enough space to dowload. Checked settings and showing 22 GB free. Ideas? Thank you!

Generally when you purchase AppleCare at the same time as the covered product, the plan is registered automatically and there's nothing you need to go. You can enter in your iPad's serial number and check the coverage here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
though if you just bought the iPad, it may take a couple of weeks before it appears in the database due to the very high load during the holiday season.
I'm not sure about the capacity issue. You might try restarting your iPad (hold down the power and home button until you get the red "swipe to turn off" screen) and see if that makes a difference.
    Regards.

  • Basic questions for a self-taught re: HDV for SD HDV (yes again)

ok - like many others posting on this topic, I am apologising for going over what seems to be one of the most covered topics out there, that still isn't clear!
I am trying to teach myself DVD SP4 in the same way I did with FCP5 (trial, error and lots of forum searching). I am by no means a pro on FCP - but have certainly got enough understanding of it to have cobbled together 7 23 minutes episodes to broadcast! I have gone thought the DVD SP4 Manual and forums and lots of it just makes my brain ache - what mostly lets down my understanding are formats/compression/codecs.
So - my main questions (for now....)
-In DVD SP I couldn't import my QT movie into my assets list as it was an "incompatible format" - is this because it was HDV to a SD DVD Project? Doesn't the process of DVD SP encoding it as Mpeg 2 make is SD anyway?
-I read a post from someone in a similar situation, who advised exporting a HDV sequence as Uncompressed 8 Bit, and bringing that to DVD SP. So am doing that now (6 hours or so for a 23" sequence) and am hoping it gives a great looking picture, but I have seen from its preview icon that its a 720 x 576 frame - why is it not exporting in 16:9? or will it squeeze that down to normal once it's in DVD SP?
Really appreciate any understand you can help me with.
    cheers
    Hugh

    Hughey wrote:
Going back to my original questions - could the problem be a HD file in an SD project?
No. If you followed the workflow process from the above post you would have a SD mv2 file. The file should be playable in Quicktime and it should be 16:9.
EDIT: Yes. Reading back on your OP this question ->
In DVD SP I couldn't import my QT movie into my assets list as it was an "incompatible format" - is >this because it was HDV to a SD DVD Project? Doesn't the process of DVD SP encoding it as Mpeg 2 >make is SD anyway?
I believe that importing a HDV file into a SD project would give you that error but if you follow the above steps and import the mv2, AC3 files you should not get that error.
The reason you got three files is because that is how the preset group is made up. To be completely truthful I duplicated that preset, deleted the AIFF part and renamed the group. I now use that as my default settings when I bring any asset into Compressor.
As far as bring video assets (quicktime SD/HD, or other) into DVDSP in general you can do this but, what is happing is that in the background DVDSP is going through the steps from my above post and creating the mv2, AIFF, AC3 files for you (based on your preference setting in DVDSP) and then replacing the video files you brought in with the compressed files.
Can you play the mv2 file in quicktime? If not then something else must be going wrong.

  • Questions for the end users in Building an application.

Questions for the end users in Building an application.
    Hello,
I am assigned a project in building a CF application. As far
as the business requirements, I have an idea from the MIS people.
However, I have a meeting with direct users and I have to ask
questions to add to my requirements. I am still a beginner in this
but I need to ask questions.
Can anyone give me tips? what basic / important questions?

    For starters,
    DO:
Ask them to discuss what they want to do with the application
Try to understand their level of computer literacy
    Keep your conversation non-technical
Continue to interact with the users during the design and
    development process
Try to identify a "champion" with whom you can interface as the
    project progresses
    DON'T:
Use technical terms or discuss technical issues
    Talk down to them
Promise delivery dates until you have documented their
requirements and they have approved them

First of all, uninstall it with the uninstaller.
    Then:
    Install the ENGLISH version.
Change the language in the CC app to Korean.
Install the Korean version. (DON't uninstall the English version)
Change back the langauge in the CC app to English.
When your OS is running in English, InDesign will run in English with Korean functionality added, if your OS is running in Korean it will take the Korean User Interface, so let your OS run in English.
Every installer language will add needed plugins for the work with that language. E.g. If I install Hebrew, I get RTL functionality in German version, only if I would change the OS language it would change the language of InDesign, InDesign takes always as UI language the language of the OS if available, if not (in your case you have uninstalled English before), it takes any version which is available in the order of languages specified in the OS.
If you need to run your program in a different language than the OS but you have installed it in the language of the OS it becomes more difficult. You would have to use some system tools which are able to force a program to open with a different language. Most of those tools are freeware.

  • Questions for Winamp Users on organizing files..

I have a few questions for those who use Winamp to manage their music files on their player. And this may relate to WMP and CMS users too.
. Does anyone know what the "Auto Fill" feature does and it's purpose? I tried it a few times and it deletes and adds certain files that I don't know of, even when i have my player sync'ed perfect to my Music Folder.
    2. I thought Syncing means that it will match everthing exact to the player and computer....yet when i use the WinAmp Feature I get duplicate files. Now I have noticed that I have to clear out my library on Winamp and rescan the main folder where i have all my music on the external HD so it won't get confused with the copies I have on my PC. Yet Syncing won't tell the difference. However the CMS sync function I definately like but I don't want to jump to different software to do certain things.
Other than that I like using Winamp just like I loved CMS pre 2. Firmware upgrade.
    What are everyone else's opinions?
    REACT TO ME!!!!!!!

Well, I don't really know the answers to your questions, as I sync all my music manually via Winamp. I do have a question of my own on the topic though, if you don't terribly mind ... ^_^
I know in WMP, when you set the property "Band/orchestra/accompaniment" WMP would find that if it was present in a media file and instead of using the artist's name to create the folder structure (e.g. device\Artist\Album\file), it would place it in device\Accompaniment\Album\file. Does this work in Winamp, and furthermore, is there a way to rearrange the folder structure of the player, or at least move songs around by adding this tag to songs already on the player?
    Thanks...Message Edited by lt3-Hitomi on 04-06-2006 2:40 AM
