Question for iPod experts, i broke my iPod with rev. polarity

I accidentaly fed 12v into my iPod in the wrong direction, now it does not respond as all or even turn on. I assume that I have burnt something out on the main board (diode, transistor, whatever). Does anyone know how I can fix this or have any suggestions about where I should go to find out. Is it possible to just get a replacement circiut board for it? Thanks very much for any help.
-john

I was hooking it up to my car so that I can play my iPod through my stereo and charge it at the same time. I cut a firewire cable and took out the two wires for power and attached the white one to ground and the black one to power. Stupid mistake I guess. How can I find out exactly what kind of board I need? I dont know all of the iPod variations so i dont want to get the wrong one. thanks for the fast reply, hopefully i can get this working soon, it works with my shuffle but I'd like to be able to have my big iPod too.

Please read my question carefully, this is, I think, a question for the experts. It's not the usual name change question.
When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

  • Coverting question for Ipod and Quicktime

I edited a movie to wmv (im using a pc). Then transfered it to mpeg1 thinking i can play it on the ipod. Didn't work so that I converted the mpeg1 to mpg4 and the format to play on the ipod, for some reason, quicktime converted the file with no sound, and it's doing it over and over again. How can I go about playing my movie on the ipod?

Search these forums and you will get a clear answer to your questions. This has already been asked many times here. THe general answer has been no there is no way of streaming music from the ipod touch to the airport all by itself. THe ipod touch can receive wifi from the airport and then allow you to surf the internet on the safari app from the ipod touch.

  • Encode DV to H.264 for iPod with Quicktime Pro - iPod won't play file

    Hello,
I have been trying to encode Microsoft DV or Pinnacle DV AVIs into MPEG4 (H.264) for iPod, BUT the resulting files do NOT play in an iPod!?
    I use Quicktime Pro for Windows (v7.1) and use the Apple recommended settings, here are the exact settings I have tried and failed in an iPod;
VIDEO: H.264 at 200kbps, Baseline Profile, 25fps, Auto Key Frames, 320x240 or 640x480, Multipass Best quality encoding.
AUDIO: AAC Audio at 96kbps, 24kHz sampling freq, Stereo.
I'm actually doing it for a client and they cannot play the file, they apparently have to 'convert' my file in their MAC based iTunes for it to work.
Anyhow can anyone please give me an idea if I am doing something wrong?

In that one there were two errors: needed a higher version of Flash installed and the codec issue. As you mentioned this had been narrowed down to the codec of the mp4 file. • Are these things possible in PDF forms? Questions for the experts

    Hi,
I have a project where I need to create an online application system, where the user has to fill in a form where the results have to be saved into a database.
I wanted to create a html based form, but then someone told me PDF can also do cool things, so I’m researching that road.
I already managed to create a simple form and submitting it to a web service (java servlet in my case) and that works pretty nicely.
I'm new to the whole PDF form creating and I’m wondering if certain things are possible. So I’m trying the experts in this form for a yes/no answer.
Are the following things possible with PDF forms:
    1) validation: number & date checks, eg, a number should be higher than 4, or be a valid number/date
    2) If I answer A at question 1, I should skip Question 2 and go directly to Question 3. Is it possible to hide Question 2, depending on what I answered at Question 1?
    3) Is it possible to attach files to the form, like a photo? And also upload it to the web service.
    4) After I submit the form, is it possible to lock the form so that no other changes can be made? In other words, you may only submit once.
    5) Possible to activate the print button after the form has been submitted?
    6) Can a drop-down lists be dynamic? Instead of hard coding the list, calling a web service to fill the values?
Thanks in advance for any insight,
    Kind regards
    Ido

    Hi Paul,
thanks for the quick answer. No my next challange is how to do things
    1) validation: number & date checks, eg, a number should be higher than 4, or be a valid number/date
    <answer> Yes
I think this is done through the object properties
    2) If I answer A at question 1, I should skip Question 2 and go directly to Question 3. Is it possible to hide Question 2, depending on what I answered at Question 1?
    <answer> Yes
This is done with subforms and scripting?
    3) Is it possible to attach files to the form, like a photo? And also upload it to the web service.
<answer> PDF does support the ability to have attachments. They would be includeed as part of the PDF so you woudl have to submit the entire PDF and then extract the attachments when you get the file to the server. Note that you will require to Reader Extend the document to allow a Reader user to add the attachment. This is not a requirement if you are using Acrobat.
Have to look into this one.
    4) After I submit the form, is it possible to lock the form so that no other changes can be made? In other words, you may only submit once.
    <answer> Yes
    Also through scripting?
    5) Possible to activate the print button after the form has been submitted?
<answer> If you add a print button on the form then the answer is Yes. The application that houses the PDF will jhave print capabilities and that one is much more difficult to hide. You can set it up so that the form cannot be printed then return back the locked version with printing enabled but a round trip to the server is required for that.
Print button will be fine by now, probably also done by scripting
    6) Can a drop-down lists be dynamic? Instead of hard coding the list, calling a web service to fill the values?
<answer> Yes but the form will require LiveCycle Reader Extensions if you are using Reader. Reader Extensions is not required if you are Acrobat.
Ahh, perhaps fixed list will be ok for version 1

  • Will the accessories for iPod with click wheel 20G work with the new gen?

    Hi,
I have a iPod with click wheel 20GB and am considering to get a new one, iPod with video 40GB or 80GB. Can I still use the following iPod accessories for 20GB one?
    - dock
    - USB power adapter
    Thanks.

I know a iPod comes with a usb cord but I would like to use the USB power adapter I have so I can charge iPod during travel with computer/laptop.
It seems to me that the connector in USB power adapter is a regular USB type B connector. But, I could not find the information to confirm it is a regular USB type B. Even it is the regular USB type B connector it does not work with the a usb cord shipped with iPod, which is a USB type A connector. That's the reason I would like to know if I can use it with new generation of iPod.
Or, I can just get a USB connector converter. But, not sure if it can supply the enough power to ...
B.t.w., the model number of the power adapter is A1070.

  • Want to output video for iPod - with subtitles set in DVDSP

Ok, now that the DVD is done, I would like to make some downloadable tracks that would be optimized for iPod (640x480). I can easily export the tracks from Final Cut Pro using compressor, but then I don't get the subtitles.
Is there a clever way to
    - get the subtitles I have in the DVDSP project back to Final Cut OR
    - import the .STL files into Final Cut OR
    - export to iPod from DVDSP with only one of three subtitle streams?

There is now a new discussion on this same subject here on the DVDSP forum (dvdsp3 subtitles -> .mov/.mp4), and so far, the only solution seems to be ripping the DVD with Handbrake.
It's a shame there's neither an easy subtitling solution in Final Cut nor an export option in DVDSP.

  • Questions for ipod nano 5g owners

+Please can anybody convince me to get a 5g 16 gigs nano? I'm a bit scared to go for this new buy and sell my old 3g nano.+
Would really appreciate if u guys can give me a feedback on these few questions. I don't intend to use the camera much at all and I don't want to play videos on it...still im a bit concerned about the battery.
    1) How is the battery quality? Experiencing any troubles?
I do own a 3g ipod nano and the battery rocks, I can listen to some music for about 2 hours per day and go like that for a week or so. 4g ipod nano was a real lemon if compared to the 3g...wondering if the 5g is as good as the 3g or not.
    2) What about the flashy colours that have been used? Are they looking good? I honeslty really liked the satinated aluminium and the soft colouring of the 4g better.
    3) The clicking wheel is that rather thick? I do remember that the 4g nano had an incredible light clicking wheel when i was touching it it felt like it could broke if really pressed hard. 3g has not that issue, it feels very sturdy and compact.
    4) I also noticed that in many pic sonline there is a sort of a gap between the clicking wheel of the 5g and the cover of the ipod itself. Is that something that all the owners of the 5g have or there are only some bad manifactured ones out there?

    1. I haven't been able to test the battery power extensively due to the fact that I've been playing around with transferring videos from my iPod to my PC, and I just installed a hookup in my car so I could listen to it in there, and this hookup also charges the battery... BUT I did play Sudoku on it the other day while I was waiting for a pizza to cook. The timer had me clocked at 14 minutes after it was all said and done (I thought I was pausing it but it kept counting the time, and the screen never went idle). After I finished, I looked at the battery power and it had barely gone down at all, maybe a slight smidgen at most. With my 4th Gen, I could play a game of Sudoku for about 8-9 minutes and that could drain a full battery anywhere from a quarter to halfway down, so in comparison, 5th gen battery life is MUCH better then 4th gen, though I suspect I may have had a faulty battery in the old one...
    2. Personally, I love the new colors and casing on the new nano's. Very shiny.
    3. I played around with my 3rd, 4th and 5th gen to see what you ment about the click wheel. The 3rd gen is thicker, but with the 4th and 5th gen, you are dealing with a slimmer nano, so Apple most likely slimmed down the click wheel to compensate for room. My 4th gen held up well, I don't see why the 5th gen would be much different.
    4. I think any gaps you may have seen from pics might have been a trick of light and shadow. All Nanos have extremely tiny spaces between the click wheel and the casing if you look close enough. For the 5th gen, I think it might be the aluminum finish, and that the click wheel is raised ever so slightly on each side, that makes the gap on that nano seem larger then it really is.
I hope this helps, but of course, this is only my version, I'm sure others will put there two cents in too.

  • Pre-sales question for IPOD (file extensions)

I would like to buy my mother a IPOD Nano 2gb for her upcoming birthday, but have a quick question on the way it formats the files on my PC.
Do I HAVE to have Itunes or any other software on my pc in order to place .mp3's on the IPOD?
If I have to have software in order to place songs on the IPOD, will it change anything on my PC, for an example, will it change any of my file extensions or file names of any of my music from .mp3 to .???
I have a DELL mp3 player and I love how I can just throw any song at it from Microsoft Window's File Explorer, and it'll play it.. I've never used or messed around with an ipod.
    Thanks in advanced,
    chris

iTunes will not change the format of your music unless you explictly tell it to do so, or import unprotected WMA files into iTunes under Windows, in which case duplicates will be created in a format which is directly usable in iTunes. The Mac OS X version of iTunes will not handle WMA songs.

  • Question for iPod Touch/Windows Vista Users

Has any other Vista users out there had any problems syncing?
As long as I don't sync large amounts of data, it works fine...but when I sync a lot of songs at once, or just 1 full length movie, I get playback problems. Some songs will skip and stutter, but that can usually be fixed by recopying the songs individually. Movies (even ones downloaded from iTunes) will not play all the way through. They will either crash and take me back to the videos menu, or they will reset the iPod Touch. Because movies are so large, simply resyncing them will not solve the problem.
I have tried resetting and restoring the iPod Touch, and reinstalling iTunes, and nothing has corrected this problem. I don't think it is a problem with the iPod Touch, because this doesn't happen when I sync using a friend's Windows XP computer.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help:)

I have the exact same problem - point for point, my iPod touch is doing exactly as you described. I have tried all sorts of things, but to no avail.
You added a new USB card to your machine, and that has solved the problem? May I ask if you still use your original 'onboard' USB for all of your other peripherals, leaving the new USB card for just your iPod? perhaps it was one of your other peripherals that was causing the problem. Just a thought, but I am certainly glad to hear that the problem is solvable. USB cards aren't very expensive, perhaps I should go invest in one to see if it solves the problem for me too.
    Thanks!

  • Help!Question for IPOD photo function

Everytime I want to add more pics to my ipod, the old ones are always autmatically deleted and coverd by new ones. I can't figure it out. Please.... help.
    Thanks

If you "restore" however, just beware...
    Quote from http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodnano_2nd_Gen_FeaturesGuide.pdf :
If you choose to restore, all data is erased from iPod nano, including
songs, files, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other
data. All iPod nano settings are restored to their original state.
Chances are, though, that you've got all that on your PC, except maybe for any "on-the-go" playlists you may have created on the iPod.

  • Playlist Syncing question for Ipod Classic

I recently bought a 120 gig Ipod while I have over a 120 gigs of music. I synced it to my library and the usual "there is not enough room, do you want us to select music to put on the ipod" message came up. I put yes and it made me the playlist and synced to my iPod
However, now it won't let me make any other playlists to sync to it, even if I use the songs that are already on the iPod. It only syncs the one playlist that it originally made. I don't even see the recently played, or top 25 played songs/playlists on it.
Anyone know how to make new playlists that I can sync to it?

Instead of syncing to the default playlist created by iTunes, create your own Smart Playlist to limit the contents of your iPod. Something like this:
    o Match all criteria
o Kind does not contain video
o Last Played is not in the last 14* days
o Limit to 100GB* selected by Random
*You can change these numbers to suit your preference.
If you sync to this playlist, it will serve as the "master" playlist. If you want additional playlists, you can either create more smart playlists that contain the criteria "Playlist is (playlist name)" where you use the name of the master playlist. You can also create regular playlists, but those may contain content that is outside the master playlist, thus increasing the amount of music you sync to and possibly exceed your iPod's capacity again.
If you go this route, you can auto-sync to just these playlists. The "Last Played" criteria in your master playlist lets you cycle through your library -- as songs are played they are removed from your iPod within 14 days (or however long you prefer).
