  • Stupid question for Nokia 5230

Ya, this question is probably really stupid, but I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere. I was just wondering if there is an auto correct or predictive text feature for the Nokia 5230, and if so how do I turn it on?

    @cassiemnstr

  • A boring 'does it sync' question for Nokia 6131

Thinking about a new phone, and want isyncability
Any experience with how well the Nokia 6131 works??
I know its not on the 'offical' list and I believe there is a plug in available, but wondered if it actually worked out of the box

Yes, there is a free patch here: http://www.mactomster.de/isync/
It's completely in German but all you need to do is download the patch and drag the plug in into the alias labeled in red on the .dmg. Then restart iSync and add your Nokia (having already paired the phone using Bluetooth Setup Assistant, of course). It works great for me.

  • N8 camera: question for Nokia team (Damian Dinning...

First: I love my N8, including it's camera.
I am an enthusiast photographer, both with my phone (N82 for last 3 years, now N8) and dedicated camera.
Now to the point: in several situations, N8 seems to add some "bluish fog" to the picture, sometimes even on screen before taking the picture. I'd attaching 2 pictures, taken using the very same settings (full auto), just changing a little bit the angle. There are inside a house, no external factors...
I'd like to hear different opinions about what happened.

that is definitely glare into the lens. i would have thought most likely from the flash.
if you have your left hand near the flash or lens then the bounce back would do it.
it could be an external light source bouncing into the lens from the chroming. but you would be able see it in the preview.

  • Read/Write Permissions question for Nokia 6120 (Sy...

    Hi All,
Recently got my 6120 on Three. Very pleased with it and doing more than I ever imagined with a mobile phone!
Quick question though. For applications that I have downloaded and am using, currently the phone asks for permission every time it exchanges/receives data. (This includes the applications consilient Push and GCalSync).
Any ideas how I can solve this? Can't see an 'always yes' option - but not sure where to look?
    Cheers, Chris

You see that's the thing, I'm not using it for a picture camera. The camera prob wouldnt read the card anyway. I'm using it as a storage device for my Nintendo Wii, I have files that I put on there to use as channels for my Wii Home Screen.

  • Nokia 95 8gb, questions for the brain boxes

Just received my new Nokia today, seems like a great phone but got a few questions.
I have got the spiderman 3 film with it already but is there anywhere where i can get cheap or free films from online?
Similar to the last question, can you get free/cheap music off the internet and transfer it too your phone?
I noticed that the phone searches for WLAN, I know there are some spots in the city where you can connect to these wirless networks for free. Could I connect my phone to these networks without vodafone charging me?
    Thanks a million

Nowhere offers a a movie download service for nokia phones yet. It's a big gap in the market that i'm surprised hasn't been filled yet.
Many sites offer cheap music now, you have one of these services in your phones music menu, the nokia music store. You can find slightly cheaper services by searching google. If you are a voda customer check this out: www.vodafonemusic.co.uk/products/musicstation.cfm
A free wireless hotspot is exactly that, free. If you try to connect to a paid for hotspot like those run by the cloud you will be asked to log in and pay. It can never take money from you without your knowledge or direct from your phone bill.

  • BIG Question to Nokia for 3G Speed Issue

I bought Nokia asha 311 before 1 month and i am not getting 3G speed.
From the day i bought this phone i am getting around 200KBps speed ONLY.
I tried all the networks and different places but the issue is same.
When i sent nokia care an email they told me that check weather any background app is running or not but i know what i am saying and i am technical guy i know my stuff very well.
As consumer's duty i checked all the possible options from my side but the issue is same.
Nokia care told me that go to nearby nokia care shop and get it checked.
I went there and they told me that phone is fine but still we'll update the firmware to see if any change happens.
They updated the firmware and the internet speed was same.
After this and all the discussion with nokia care exe. he told me that This NOKIA ASHA 311 mobile doesn't have that 3G class to give HIGH SPEED 3G internet!!!!!
I was shocked with this answer. I bought this mobile after analysis as my primary requirement was to use this phone's inbuilt 3G modem which supports 14.5MBps downloading speed(according to Nokia's promotional listings) and now after hearing this from that nokia care executive i am totally shocked and left his shop.
Today i again sent email to nokia care (from nokia's website) to see what they say now.
If things didn't go well then i don't have any choice then placing a BIG CONSUMER COURT REPORT against nokia to not list what they don't provide(in this case its 3G speed)
They shown in advertisement and everywhere and also on Nokia.com website too that this phone supports 14.5MBps downloading speed and has HSPA so there should be no question with browsing/downloading speed but now I NEED ANSWER.
Resolve or face the consumer behavior.

Just to clarify, I do not work for Nokia, but rather just drop by here once in a while.
Claims that "a friend is getting" may only be you're friends claim. In the court of most modern law, we call it HEARSAY.
Most people cite technical specifications and factors, but the reality with the mobile Internet, is pretty basic.
For wireless connectivity, imagine this very ideal setting:
Your phone is about 4 inches in size with a 3 inch battery and fits snugly in your hand. Take your pick, any brand, any carrier or provider, they are all the same. Wifi, bluetooth, 3g, 4g, still the same.
A cellular tower is about, lets give it a nice rounded figure of 100 feet high towering high above.
A typical cell site should be a few kilometers away, lets say you have full bars within a radius of 5km
Now we have many scenarios possible:
The Internet is not about just DOWNLOAD or  retrieving information, one very overlooked factor is UPLOAD or sending. One does not magically conjure a website without requesting for it.
It is always two-way traffic for the Internet. If the requesting party has a weak signal, either packets (or bits of data) are lost along the way to the cell's tower, the reply from the tower may also be sporadic or slow.
    Why?
Going back to physics, it's 4 inch phone versus 100 foot tower.
You are holding a tiny phone trying to send data to a device many, many kilometers away. The cell site may be streaming you 100% full strength, but with the Internet, you have to take into account your own signal sending back.
EMI's or electromagnetic interference. - packets of data are sent across servers in almost pristine condition across the globe via fiber optics, but once their holiday trip rides the imaginary airplane and flies through the air as packets of data, they also encounter MILLIONS of other packets of data from other mobile phones, wifi hotspots, radio stations, even echoes of the Big Bang (yep, seriously) emenating from outer space.
So Imagine your phone as a post office, and it has to sort through all of those millions of packets and only let yours which has been authenticated in.  You are technically recieveing everyone else's packets of data and in an area congested with a lot of wireless traffic, your phone has to work extra hard to sort which is which.
A well placed microwave often, in fact, can kill any wireless signal. Waves, physics and all those sorts of things are complicated to explain you need not worry about them on a consumer level. Not even Einstein can tame it, so nothing much we can do.
That's only two variables in a multi-variable situation in troubleshooting slow browse connectivity. A ping test or bandwith test from sites such as speedtest.net will only provide a benchmark and basis for network engineers to troubleshoot but does not reflect your actual speed or QoS.
And since I brought the term up, you can also contact your provider about the QoS or the speed plan your are currently signed up or paying for. Like here in Time Warner Cable, even if our customer has the fastest modems around if they are subscribed to the 30mbps plan, they'll never get 50mbps because of the simple fact they are not paying for that subscription, or as we in the industry call it, QoS.
If you are getting less than the bandwidth in optimum conditions, it is definitely provider-side issue.
I am sorry if my sarcastic sense of humour (well, that's just who I am.) may not play well with some cultures. But I hope I have enlightened others who are also wondering as well.
Again, disclaimer, I do not work for Nokia.
I am also a consumer, trying to look for a fix for my phone that keeps crashing, much like most of us ended up here looking for answers.
My personal suggestion is, if you don't like the phone, return it or resell it on ebay and buy a higher end phone.
    Price = Performance.

  • Will appear a new firmware for nokia 5800?

one question ... will appear a new firmware for nokia 5800 will soon ? Thnx !

It's not about old or not, it's about that productcode which is under your battery. Take a look here, and follow the instructions. If there is not an update available, you just have to wait.

when will windows 8.1 be available for nokia phones?

I wish I had some way to give you hope but unfortunately you're definitely not the first person to ask this question.  VZW has made it clear that they aren't in the customer service business so we now must take matter into our own hands.  Write directly to the CEO.

  • Updates for Nokia X6, 5530 XM and 5800 XM

    Hello Nokia,
Nokia please give us more information about the announced updates you've promised us on the 29th of June.
We don't get any information about the updates, except the notice on 29 August.
Come on Nokia, release the update soon and don't ignore your faithful users!
    (http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/08/29/new-info-on-the-software-updates-for-symbian-5-0-and-3-2-d...):
New info on the software updates for Symbian 5.0 and 3.2 devices
GLOBAL – Last week we made some edits in the article published in June on the software updates for Symbian 5.0 and 3.2 devices. We have since then received questions about this topic from our readers, so we’d like to share some more information on the status of these updates. We’d like to confirm that the planned updates for Nokia X6, Nokia 5530 and Nokia 5800 are still to be released and we are currently working on getting the software ready to launch in some months.
As all three models are among our older devices, not all operators globally will test and approve the software update for these phones. This is the reason why we decided to remove the devices from the global posting. Availability of the software update for these phones will be determined at a local level.
    Best regards ,

  • Is there an update for Nokia 701 which supports SN...

    Hi,
I am new in Nokia development.
    I have a Nokia 701 (SW version 111.020.0307 - Symbian Belle).
I want to develop a NFC application which sends NDEF messages (through SNEP protocol) to an Android phone (Ice cream).
From what I could see till now, the SW version that I have in my Nokia phone does not support SNEP.
I want to know if there is any SW update for Nokia 701 which supports SNEP.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Just adding more information in order to clarify my questions related to this post.
I am pretty new in Nokia developing. Actually this is the first application I was asked to develop/change.
I work to a company which has a client that has an application that runs in Nokia 701 (SW version  111.020.0307 - Symbian Belle). They want us to change this application in order to be able to send NDEF messages through SNEP protocol.
From what I could see till now, current SW version in the Nokia 701 does not support SNEP.
I also saw that new QTMobility versions support SNEP. I would like to know if I download the Nokia SDK and the new QTFramework/QTMobility:
1- I would be able to change the existing application to send NDEF messages through SNEP.
2- Would the modified application run in the current  Nokia 701 SW release? Or we would have to install any new lib to have it working?
3- Where can I find which QTFramework/QTMobility version are supported in current SW 111.020.0307 - Symbian Belle?
Sorry if my questions are very rudimentary, but, as I said, I am new in the company and pretty new in Nokia development. All those terms  QTFramework/QTMobility are new to me.
    Thanks in advance,

  • IM for Nokia

    Hi I'm from Panama.
I bought an N8 and it won't let me install IM for Nokia. I downloaded it and the phone restarted so it can "install actualization" or something like that. After restarting when I was planning to finish the installation process it showed a message: "Error: cannot install, try again or contact customer service". After doing some research I found that it needed some Data thing. So I went to get some and it still won't let me install it.
What should I do?? This is driving me crazy...
Another question, where are the apps stored after downloading them???
Thanks in advanced, hope you can help me.

The application needs an internet connection to work and probably 3G or WIFI ! The applications are installed wherever you set the default on your Ovi store account in account settings, but they will usually install on C phone memory !

  • TOP questions for Eseries devices - not so new!

Just noticed that the thread titled:
TOP questions for Eseries devices - start here [new]
Really isn't so new dated 30-Cot-2007 11:48 AM - last edited on 30-Oct-2007 11:48 AM
The post suggests that the first thing to do is update to the latest version of software.
Alas the last update for E72 was 27 October 2010 which is flawed!  I know as my phone has misbehaved since installing it and I see other users reporting similar if not the same issues here.
    *#0000# reports version 052.005.217.11
Question - How does one down grade to previous version?
The post then suggests "If you still experience problems, you can try if formatting your Eseries device helps. Format the device by dialling *#7370#. The device will request a security code, the default code is 12345 unless you have changed it."
Well actually on the E72 this does nothing!  I Type in *#7370# and its displayed to me and nothing else happens.  If I enter *#0000# I get the version number so it seems the software/firmware does not understand the code above!
I did try 'factory settings' option from one of the control panel menu's instead at some point of my misery but was surprised by just how little effect that had - many things were not reset.
If your still reading, I thought I would share some steps I have found to sometimes help on E72 when it appears to hang / stall:
    1. Try holding down the home button and if the running applications bar is shown try closing the applications by pressing the delete (backspace) key.
2.- If that fails try pressing the off button and selecting 'offline' mode - This sometimes works - if it does then try previous point before going back to an online mode such as 'general'.
    3. If that fails - try holding down the power button to turn device off - that sometimes works! But sometimes the keyboard lights simply stay on until the battery goes dead...
    4. Remove the battery wait a moment and then re-insert battery.  You may then have to enter the time and date. Do check your alarms - during GMT I noticed all my alarms would have incremented by an hour!  Not seen this since BST started.

Very strange - or perhaps not that strange but just another issue....  I tried the Hard Reset code again at this time it worked!!!  I'm now re-entering my details and remembering what I didn't back up   But if it fixes my issues it will be worth it.
FYI from another fine post I found:
    FOR SOFT-RESET:
    - at Standby Screen type-in => *#7780#
It will ask for “Restore all phone settings-phone’ll restart….”
Then it asks for security code enter factory default => 12345
    FOR HARD-RESET:
    - at Standby Screen type-in => *#7370#
It will ask for “Restore all phone settings-phone’ll restart….”
Then it asks for security code enter factory default => 12345
FOR FLASHING- TOTAL RESTORE: (Do this if your phone does not boot up)
    1) Remove the battery, and then wait for about 20 min or so before putting it back
    2) Press and hold these three keys together -Green dial key, Star key[*], Three key [3]
    3) switch ON the phone.
    4) Do not let go the three keys until you see the WELCOME screen displayed and just let it complete the boot process
if this doesnt help contact Nokia Care Point-> http://europe.nokia.com/A4388379

  • N9 MeeGo: Questions to Nokia

N9 is a very good phone, with excellent design and potentially excellent OS (I get so used to 'swipe', that I even occassionally do swipe on my iPad).
Nevertheless, there are couple of issue, which make me believe, that N9 was released pre-maturely.
I would appreciate if someone from Nokia team on this forum could address following questions:
    1.  Will there be a proper USB sync between N9 and PC (any soft (like Nokia Link, Nokia Suite etc.) allowing syncing contacts, calendar items and notes with Outlook) and, if yes, when we could expect one?
    2. Will there be any upgrade allowing video calls and, if yes, when we could expect one?  (it appears that fron facing camera is pretty much useless now)
    3.  Will there be video call for Scype? (I understand this is a third party application, but it seems that Nokia might have info on this)
    4. Will there be any office suite (word, excell, power point) allowing editing documents?  (I understand this is a third party application, but it seems that Nokia might have info on this)
    5. Will there be any flash support for web browser,  and, if yes, when we could expect one?
These are my main issues right now. If anyone has any additional issues please continue the list.
    Thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Switching brands may be the best Solution. It seems Nokia is not interested in addressing the problems raised in this forum. For Nokia to dismiss the lack of a proper way to synch the N9 with my previous Nokia as "not an issue" is just wrong.
No voice dialing? How does that fit with my Nokia car kit for hands free phone use?
No file management system? This really is a backwards step.
Here is another reason to switch to an iPhone... my wife and I just spent four weeks traveling and in every hotel her iPhone was able to connect to even weak WiFi signals but not my N9.  There were times when she could easily chat in Skype and I could not even make a connection. Such a weak WiFi receiver in the N9.
I chose the N9 over the iPhone because of the included voice navigation but this has proved very poor. The previous E71 worked far better. I am unable to update or download additional maps in my N9 and the options and controlswithing both Maps and Drive is extremely poor.
Many good features in the N9 and some nice design work but clearly we have been sold an incomplete operating system and set of applications, rushed to market and then abandoned. I expected better than this from Nokia. This attitude is more like what I expect from Microsoft. Oh yes! Nokia are in bed with Microsoft now! The culture if distain for their customers must be contagious
