Question for using ORACLE with SOLARIS

Hi Experts,
I have worked Oracle with Linux in one of my projects 2yrs back and i was just a developer, used to write SQL Query, Creating Table and Objects.
Now i got a question from TL which is
Tell me about consequences for using Oracle with Solaris?
I am not worked ORACLE with SOLARIS, Can some one give me the answer for this question with
1. Difference between ORACLE with LINUX and ORACLE with SOLARIS.
2. Advantages and Disadvantages Between ORACLE with LINUX and ORACLE with SOLARIS.
Thanks,
MuraliDharan V

Hi MuraliDharan V,
It would had been better if you had searched first;
Here is one
Advantage for Linux64-bit Versus Solaris-x86_64 OS in RAC
And beside that your question is incomplete:
-What Oracle? Database, etc
-Which Version? 9i, 10g, etc
Aside from that a simple search on google might have answered your question as well.
But I think there is some new trend of dumping questions here before searching.

  • Any sample for using Captcha with Oracle ADF ?

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    is there any sample available for using captcha with adf faces ?
    thanks

    Hi,
    nott hat I am aware of. However, I started a project to build a custom JSF component using
    http://jcaptcha.sourceforge.net/
    Not sure when I have this finished, but the goal is to have this working with ADF Faces (not sure if it makes sense to bind the component to ADF though)

  • Advantages of using Oracle with Unix over Windows server

    Hi there,
    I want some article/document which depicts the advantages of using Oracle with Unix (say HP-UX or Solaris backend). Actually the plan is to use some Data Warehousing applications using Cognos Poweplay, ReportNet and either Decision Stream of Cognos or Oracle Warehouse builder may be used as ETL tool. For Data mining applications we are planning to use SPSS Clementine. The Data volume will be substantial one. At present we are developing some prototype in Windows 2003 advanced environment. We are plaiing to use Risc server and RAID-5. Pl. advice some ideal architecture for us, as you know, it's typically a Govt. level application data (mostly archival data). The reports will be published using Report Net, Adhoc query etc, OLAP analysis will be done using Powerplay.

  • Problem for using oracle xml parser v2 for 8.1.7

    My first posting was messed up. This is re-posting the same question.
    Problem for using oracle xml parser v2 for 8.1.7
    I have a sylesheet with
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xsl">.
    It works fine if I refer this xsl file in xml file as follows:
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="http://...../GN.xsl"?>.
    When I use this xsl in pl/sql package, I got
    ORA-20100: Error occurred while processing: XSL-1009: Attribute 'xsl:version' not found in 'xsl:stylesheet'.
    After I changed name space definition to
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> in xsl file, I got
    ORA-20100: Error occurred while processing: XSL-1019: Expected ']' instead of '$'.
    I am using xml parser v2 for 8.1.7
    Can anyone explain why it happens? What is the solution?

    Steve,
    We are also creating an XML DOM from java and are having trouble getting the tags created as we want. When we use XMLText it creates the tag as <tagName/>value rather than <tagName>value</tagName>. We want separate open and close tags. Any ideas?

    Thanks to Bobthefisherman & Turbostar.  Turns out I've got a corrupted disk (which I found out via "verify disk" on Disk Utility First Aid.  Previously, I never thought to verify disk -- only to repair permissions -- so I never knew my HD had been corrupted.
    Wasn't able to do a clean install of OSX10.6 because my SuperDrive only sporadically will load discs, so I am taking it to the Apple Store to see if they can do a clean install, and depending upon costs, get the Superdrive replaced.
    The HD wasn't partioned by the way.  And I did have just over 40GB of contiguous space.
    Thanks again.

  • Is there a set up tutorial for using Outlook with iCloud

    I am using Outlook on my PC (windows 7 and Outlook 2010)
    1. Is there a set up tutorial for using Outlook with iCloud?
    2.  Please clarify, I don't need to set up a XXX@me email account to get iCloud to sync with Outlook, correct?
    3.  My emails appear to by syncing, but the Outlook Calendar does not sync its Pre-Cloud entries with my Iphone and IPad.  Is this what is to e expected?
    4.  If I put a calendar entry on my PC's Outlook Calendar, it should sync with my Iphone and Ipad correct?  Again, what about entries that were made in Outlook before I signed up for iCloud?
    I am hoping there is a simple step by step tutorial somewhere, because I am pretty disappointed with Apple about how confusing this is all becoming.

    Hello:
    Sorry I can't bring you a solution but I am surprised your mail is working. Many of us with outlook 2010 seem to be having trouble sending. It seems apple's Pxx-smpt.mail.me.com server is rejecting the loging. I have tried it on three PC's with Win7 and Outlook 2010. It simply does not work after installing from the iCloud control panel. I have also manually configured the servers, encryption method, etc to no avail.
    On the positive side, Calenda and contacts does work. First time around, the claendar duplictaed everything but I manually cleans it out. The iCloud calendar is a seperate calendar in Outlook. It seems to perform a sync with your local calendar one time. From them on, I beleive you need to use the iCloud calendar to have the same appointments show on each device. I renamed the defaut iClouds calendar to "iCloud Calendar". It's definatelly confusing and not seamless. It would be nicer to sync your OL calendar permenantly so you don;t see two or more.
    Let me know your settings for iCloud email on Outlook. Try sending an email from the @me.com account.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling

    Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
    with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
    with WLS pooling. I also had.
    In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
    method getVendorConnection() which exposes
    the physical connection object to your code.
    Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
    WLS pooled connection(s).
    Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
    unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
    became Weblogic dependent):
    void doSmth() {
    Connection con = ...;
    Connection vCon = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    // + mess of usage con in one places and vCon in others
    // (where Oracle extensions are needed)
    // !Don't forget to don't close vCon!
    Sux.
    I found the workaround.
    Introduction
    ============
    Yes the real cause of ClassCastException is that
    in depth of Oracle driver the casting
    to class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection
    (not to interface oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection)
    is performed.
    Someone can say that this is bug or pure desing.
    Weblogic pooled connection provide dynamic
    implementation for all public interfaces
    which real physical (wrapped) connection object implements.
    Great feature!
    But I guess that all interface methods implemented
    by simple call-delegation to physical (wrapped) connection object.
    In case of oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection interface
    this approach doesn't work for at least one its method:
    public OracleConnection unwrap()
    WLS pooled connection shoudn't implement this method by
    delegation to physical connection object BUT should
    return physical connection object itself!
    // Wrong implementation of unwrap()
    // delegation is used
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return physicalConnection.unwrap();
    // Right implementation of unwrap()
    // physical connection returned
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return physicalConnection;
    Workaround
    ==========
    1. Develop your own OracleConnection wrapper class:
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection;
    public class MyOracleConnectionImpl implements OracleConnection {
    private OracleConnection con;
    public MyOracleConnectionImpl(OracleConnection connection)
    throws SQLException
    this.con = connection;
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return (OracleConnection)
    ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    /* Implement all other methods by delegation to con object */
    2. Don't get Connections directly from DataSource --
    develop your own simple (may be static) utility
    class which retrives Connections from dataSource
    and returns them wrapped into your MyOracleConnectionImpl
    to your code from some method:
    puclic abstract class MyConnectionSource {
    public static Connection getConnection() {
    Connection con = // get it from DataSource
    return new MyOracleConnectionImpl((OracleConnection)con);
    3. Add attribute RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled="false"
    to definition of your JDBCConnectionPool within config.xml
    You may do it because of you `safely` use vendorConnection --
    you don't expose it to application code.
    4. Enjoy the Oracle JDBC extensions in your code!
    Example:
    Connection con = MyConnectionSource.getConnection;
    ArrayDescriptor add =
    ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("your_type", con);
    Hope it helps to someone.

    Eugene Voytitsky

    Hello Eugene Voytitsky,
    Thanks Eugene Voytitsky for your idea
    I have tried the solution suggested by You, but it did not work.

  • Support for using TNSNAMES with Oracle Thin Driver?

    Hi.
    In the official Oracle JDBC FAQ (http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_faq.htm), they say that from the "10.2.0.1.0" release, the Thin driver hast support for using TNSNAMES entries. Thus, you can use URLs like this:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@GL (thin driver, but connection info defined in tnsnames.ora)
    Does anyone know how could I use an URL like this? Do I have to install the Oracle client? or can I simply copy a tnsnames.ora file someplace on disk and specify its ubication through an environment variable or something like that?
    I haven't find util information in the Oracle site....any ideas are much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    I just found some info here:
    Re: Thin Driver and Load Balancing
    Thank you very much.

  • Justification for Using Oracle Text

    Hello,
    Can someone give me good cause (justification) for utilizing Oracle Text over other tools out there that are not tied directly to Oracle?
    Apparently it is possible to identify metadata within text and do keyfield and keyword searches this way with other tools, but I question the accuracy, speed, or value in terms of data relationships with this approach. I feel the relationships belong in the database along with the indexes but can't convince anyone of this.
    Has anyone experience working with Oracle Text where relationships help to drive the search and can give me good cause to this approach?
    thanks

    Hi,
    Justification depends on your use. For starters:
    1) It is included in both standard and enterprise editions of the db at no added charge
    2) Uses SQL to query and maintain
    3) Includes a number of built-ins for maintenance and optimization
    4) It has 4 different index types for various uses
    5) It can index any data type
    6) UltraSearch is included in both standard and enterprise editions of the db at no additional charge (this is a crawler built on Oracle Text).
    As for the integration - it is optimized for Oracle. If you were to build a standalone indexing solution you would probably design it a bit different, but Oracle Text takes into account the optimizer and database structure.
    It has other features (same as some of the other tools) like a knowledge base, classification, clustering, theme extraction, language-specific features, ability to index documents in and out of the database, stopwords, stemming, wildcard, progressive relaxation, and the list goes on.
    I guess my question would be, what is the reason for NOT using it? That might give me a better line on the reasoning so that I can respond with something a bit more specific.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Tools like Autonomy have fantastic searching functions, far in excess of what we get with Text. What they aren't very good at is the database side of things. So if your prime concern is to be able to search free text documents on your file system using a baroque range of filters then Text is not the right choice. But if you want to join the outcomes of free text searches with structured data in database tables or if the text you want to search is stored in database tables then using Oracle's built-in functionality is the better approach.
    From your post I'm not sure which scenario fits your situation more closely.
    Cheers, APC

  • Do we need rpm package oracleasmlib for using Oracle ASMLib?

    ..The Oracle ASMLib kernel driver is now included in the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel.
    No driver package needs to be installed when using this kernel.
    The oracleasm-support and oracleasmlib packages still need to be installed from ULN+
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linux/asmlib/index-101839.html
    i use:
    root@oel62 ~]# uname -r
    2.6.32-300.3.1.el6uek.x86_64I understood:
    -oracleasm: is include in the kernel(kernel/drivers/block/oracleasm/oracleasm.ko)
    -oracleasm-support: can be found on the install ISO or in Oracle Public Yum Server.
    -oracleasmlib: ? not found in Oracle Public Yum Server! can be found only in ULN?
    Question: Do we need it, rpm package oracleasmlib for install Oracle ASMLib?
    I have add kernel module oracleasm (via modprobe) and install rpm oracleasm-support
    (but without oracleasmlib) and it works !!??
    ..and I'm confused ???

  • Need questions for an Oracle interview tomorrow.

    Hi,
    I have to interview someone tomorrow for and ETL/OWB 11.1 position.
    The following are 20 (19 I had to delete one. It was nasty) of the toughest Oracle interview questions ever asked.
    Obviously I can't ask them tomorrow for many legal reasons.
    Are there any questions that you could suggest to me that I could ask that would be good interview questions? Serious ones that won't get me into trouble.
    Meanwhile ,..., enjoy the list.

    20 Oracle Interview Questions
        How long have you been using Oracle in terms of minutes?
        Why should this company lower its standards to hire you?
        What is the most effective way that Oracle can ring fence SAP? Do you have 99 more?
        I see you admiring my suit, I chose it because it's the same color as duct tape and you can't see the repairs.
        What innovation do you bring to your wardrobe?
        How many Oracle Fusion applications have you used?
       What do you do with Oracle Warehouse Builder other than build Oracle Warehouses?
        In the next ten seconds name five cabbage recipes and relate the back to PL/SQL functions.

        Name three current Oracle BI partners and several dozen former partners.
        What do databases and chickens have in common?
        I can't ask about your race, sex, religion or weight but I can ask do you have a hot looking partner to bring to company functions?
        This is an immediate pass or fail question: what does the "i" stand for in Oracle 10i?
        How would you restore an Oracle database backup with corrupted backup control files if you are the only person in the office and you have super glued thick oven mitts onto both hands?
        Who do you hate more: IBM, Microsoft, SAP or the Welsh?
        Did you see that messenger in the film 300 who got kicked down the bottomless pit?
       How would you break bad news to Larry Ellison?
        Do you know how to skipper a yacht? Can you learn before the next Americas Cup?
        You're not from NZ are you? Oracle has kind of a NZ skipper hiring freeze on at the moment, and for the next 99 years.
        What are the SQL hints you can encode into an Oracle view to encode the correct index usage,
        optimize the join between tables and subliminally compel users to stop using SAP.
        Have you ever committed a federal crime, worked for a terrorist organization,
        acted as a torturer for a foreign dictator or downloaded support materials for TomorrowNow?

  • Best practice for using Muse with Lightroom?

    I'm creating a photography website. I use Lightroom to manage my photographs, and I keep the pictures for my site in Collections.
    In Muse, I'd like to have ALT text descriptions (or something similar) of each picture, so that search engines can see what's on my site.
    Is there a way to embed the descriptions into the image info in Lightroom, and have it export in a way that Muse picks it up?
    My problem is this: I've been creating ALT tags in my Muse slideshows (by right clicking on each image and selecting "Edit image properties..."). This works, but I lose my ALT tag if I export the images from Lightroom using any naming convention that doesn't maintain a consistent relationship between image and name. This makes it very difficult to manage my exports from Lightroom, especially if I want to add images or change the order of images.
    At the risk of providing too much detail, the reason I rename images on export is this: In Lightroom, my images are named with my client's last name and a sequence number. When I export them for use on my website, I want them to have a different name, primarily to protect my clients' privacy, but also to allow me to organize them easily in my slideshows. So for example Jones-103.dng gets exported as Checkerbox-Wedding-Photography-[nnn].jpg, where [nnn] is a new sequence number.
    Can anyone tell me a better way to manage this workflow?

    publish/subscribe, right?
    lots of subscribers, big messages == lots of network traffic.
    it's a wide open question, no?

  • 2 IP for a NIC with Solaris 8

    Hi, i would like to know if it's possible to assign 2 IP to a NIC with Solaris 8?
    I looked high and low and can't find the answer to my question...
    Please can someone help me?
    If you guys got any good website (English / French) that explain how to do that it would be really appreciated.
    Thx

    ISTR you could also go about it another way --
    "ifconfig hme0:1 plumb" (for example).Yes, absolutely.
    addif is probably the more graceful way, to avoid
    name collisions.In this case I picked it just because I thought the man page could explain 'addif' more easily than the entire concept of virtual interfaces (which you then have to plumb..).
    Of course I also think that the configuration of the virtual interface is simpler
    echo "xx.xx.xx.xx" > /etc/hostname.<int>:1
    To do it with addif, you have to make additional changes to /etc/hostname.<int> that makes it a little less nice.
