Question from the Blog: slideshow music

We had the following question come from the Photoshop.com blog that covers the Gallery changes:
Question: "When I try to create a express slideshow it will let me pick out a  template then I can’t add music or get a timeline or anything else for  that matter !! Have talked with your tech. help people & that got  me no where ..."
Answer: Our slideshow engine did change recently, and the ability to add music, as well as the default slideshow experience, changed. In the case of music, it is not available at the moment (but we realize that it's a really nice feature to have. For the time being, you can create excellent slideshows with music and transitions and effects, using either Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements, and share those on ps.com).
The default sharing slideshow also changed, from that 3-D floating model to the new Midnight theme. The primary driver for that change was to drastically improve the loading time for the slideshows, and in fact, the slideshows now load in a fraction of the time, and offer a superior viewing experience with real full screen, as opposed to the previously limited large view available in the former model. But we're adding new themes and templates all the time, and we understand the appeal of a deep, interactive experience for sharing slideshows. Again, in the meantime, until new themes come available directly online, you can choose from a variety of very interactive and fun themes if you share photos and video directly from Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements to Photoshop.com.

Thank you for reaching out to us, Texasman. Sad to see that
you have left the VZW family, but it is definitely awesome to be able to
travel! Regarding your iPhone 5, the phone is unlocked for international usage.
Just need an active local SIM card that is compatible with your iPhone. Your local provider
may need to configure some settings under Cellular, but it should pick up signal. Just in
case, make sure that Settings>Cellular>Roaming>Voice & Data are
    active.

I suggested that SAP does not make its own metadata sufficiently transparent to support all activities requiring knowlege of SAP architecture, particularly activities such as "AsIs:ToBe" mappings in Legacy -> ERP conversions, or creation of ES(O)A services.
So I'd like to share something that recently happened at work, in order to illustrate this point.
The customer is opening a plant in a different country and must run SAP in a different language.
So the first thing it wants to do is run SMLT with a list of tables that are involved in the transactions which will be run in the new language.
Ah - but how to get this list of tables ...!
Shouldn't there be an absolutely transparent utility which takes the set of transactions from the blueprint and produces a list of tables that need to be fed to SMLT to support these transactions?
Alternatively, shouldn't SAP "open up" the metadata and metaprocesses behind the Repository Information system, so that an enterprising customer can write such a utility itself?
    Am I missing something here?
If so, I've posted this post in the ABAP General Forum also, so that anyone who wants some points can tell everyone how and why this problem is really not a problem.  (If more than one good solution is posted, I promise I'll ask Craig/Mark to award "10" to each one.)<br><br>

Must be that there isn't any simple "off-the-shelf" solution, huh?

  • Displaying random questions from the backend

    Hi,
Is it possible to randomly select a question and display it on the page with different options. Say for example, if I have a question and that has three values as answers which are to be displayed in radio button style, will it be possible to display it dynamically by selecting the values from tables?"
The questions and the options are stored in the table.

    Hi Suzi,
Radio buttons can appear vertically or horizontally on a page - to set them horizontally, you need to specify "Number of columns" on the radio item's definition. As you won't know exactly how many items there will be, you can just set this to the highest possible number of options.
When the page is submitted, you should have the question number (created using the random number generator I mentioned before) plus the value of the option selected - this would be the return value for the item rather than the display value, so if the user sees "Yellow", but the return value is "1", then the item is set to 1 not Yellow. How this gets onto the database will depend on how you have set the page up. Most likely, you would just have a simple page process that does something like:
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO ANSWERS (QUESTION, ANSWER) VALUES (:P1_QUESTION, :P1_ANSWER);
END;This should be conditional on a Submit button

  • Really easy question from the technologically ignorant

Hello hello... I'm new to macs and I'm trying to work out how to share files and applications and suchlike from my account to my girlfriend's (on the same computer). For example, it'd be nice if when I put a CD on i-Tunes it automatically went into her library as well - also, when I install programmes on my account, we can't seem to access them from hers. I'm sure this is hopelessly easy to do, but there's only so much experimenting I can do before I worry I'm going to break something...
    Cheers all...
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4)

iTunes has a sharing preference. There's no need to download music to both users Music folder. The /Users/Shared folder is set up so that all users can put files in this location and let other login users "see" them. Changing the content of a file in the Shared folder involves modifying the permissions on the file. This can be done in the Get Info window (you will find a sub-menu in the Finder's File menu). Select the file that you wish to change the permissions on, select the Get Info sub-menu and change the permissions so Others can read & write.

  • Keyword questions from the newbie

Would anyone mind helping me figure out if there are conventions for entering Keywords into pdf Metadata? I have been having a conversation on another forum about Keywords for images and there is some question in my mind as to whether I should use quotes around a term such as "plate of shrimp" or if I should just use Plate Shrimp. One poster said they were avoiding using spaces for some reason and that they use PlateShrimp.
Anyway, am I correct in assuming that all this goes back to how google searches Metadata in pdf's and/or images??
Does anyone know where to find some of the conventions or standards associated with this? For instance, doesn't google search the /content/ of the pdf and if so wouldn't a keyword have to be /different/ from one in the METADATA? Or ostensibly google would rank a keyword /higher/ and the other Maetadata in a pdf would be associated with Contact and/or Copyright info?
I am a total newbie with this so I am trying to winnow things down here with a little help if possible. I've been able to find info on IPTC Metadata but my assumption is that this only relates to images.
    Thanks.

Only under the programs you use like Pages.
    2. When I have a disc in the notebook and I pick up the computer is it normal for the disc to grind inside the unit? It sounds like a garbage disposal.
This happens because you move the macbook and the disk is spinning. If you don't tilt it this usually is OK but tilting causes the noises your hearing and it is damaging the disk.

It is the input menu for special characters and keyboard viewer if both are turned on under system preferences. Look under International Input Menu.

Yes I use it and it works fine. Max out your RAM for the best results.

  • Questions from an enthusiastic classical-music-oriented newbie...

    1. I'm a decent classical piano player. My M Audio 88 Keyboard is kinda spongy feeling. I know a little about the latency issue. Is there any sort of adjustment I can make somewhere that will make the M Audio feel more like a piano?
    2. I recorded a piano project that sounds GREAT! Exported it to iTunes and switched to iMovie and added some images, etc. The exported movie has some strange "repeated-note-pops" right at the end. The GB project does not have these. ???
    3. I have a sustaining pedal, and it works... but in a fairly subtle way. Can I make an adjustment anywhere to make it sustain a little more?
    4. Is there a way to adjust the VELOCITY of a whole bunch of notes so that they are equal? Or, since that might be too mechanical, so that they are "more equal" than my original input?
    5. I wanted to share my movie (see 2.) with a whole bunch of friends, so I sent them a .mov file (a movie made with iMovie). The less-computer-savvy were flummoxed by this. I guess they don't have Quicktime installed, and didn't seem to understand how to play a .mov in a browser (you can just drag it into most browser windows, right?). Anyway, what is the safest, most fool-proof way (format) to share movies or sound files when dealing with inexperienced computer users?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

    1. Latency is caused by many factors. I wouldn't know where to start to improve it.
    2. It's probably in iMovie (or do you hear it in iTunes as well?). I've had a similar problem and the solution was to move the handles of the fade-out.
    3. You can check sustain using the "Musical Typing" keyboard. If I'm not mistaken, holding the tab-key gives a sustain. If the effect is different from pressing the sustain pedal, your master keyboard might send the wrong MIDI command.
    4. I was trying that as well, but I'm afraid it's not possible.
    5. You could also try to convert your movie to divx (or xvid) or avi on your computer before sending it. There is a whole host of software for these tasks, but you might have to pay a little.

  • Question about the arrangement of music files within an album

    Hi all,
I used to have a cheap MP3 player that worked just like a portable hard drive--drag-and-drop and organized into folders. I wanted the quality of an iPod, but with the organizational convenience of my old player, so I decided to change the tags of all my MP3s so that the album titles were the titles of all my old folders. This basically worked--whenever a folder was organized by tracks, I would open up the album, and there were all my files, properly arranged. The problem is when the "album" wasn't actually an album. I tried to change all the track numbers to "1" hoping that the iPod would just then arrange the files in alphabetical order by title. But it doesn't. I can't figure out what system it uses, but I figured you might know. Here are the questions:
How does the 5G iPod determine the file order of tracks within an album when all the tracks have the same number?
    and
If track number is the only thing it checks, is there any way for me to cheat and get the songs in alphabetical order without manually giving them all a track number?
    and on an unrelated note
Anyone find the standard issue Apple earbuds to be too large? Any recommendations for slightly smaller earbuds that are at least at the same quality level? A few suggestions at different price levels would be appreciated. And I assume you already have a discussion for that, so a link would suffice.
    Thanks,
    John

wow that is crazy i can't believe it is able to transpose audio loops (not midi) to different keys. especially stuff with more then one note playing at the same time like guitar strum.
I know how to set up the key in logic and change it etc... i was really wondering how it is capable of doing this?? does it have some kind of melodyne or autotune built in to it?? i never heard of software being able to do this with pre recorded audio that plays more than one note at a time.

  • A Tiger Software Update Question from the iBook Forum

I just finished reading this question,
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12901184#12901184
in the iBook G4 forum and am very curious myself if this could be a problem with the update. If someone knows why this is happening, would you please help the poor guy with two dead iBooks?
    Thanks,
    Randy

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that the other member's question was solved, only my part in it. That must have been confusing. I should go back to mark it unsolved.
I subscribe to the iBook G4 forum and when this question came up, I looked through other forums to try to find an answer for him/her. The Tiger forum seemed like the logical place to post the question. It looks like the right person came to the rescue! Thanks. Discussions members have helped me out by networking like this, so it's great to be able to return the many favors.

  • Another STUPID question from the Hoss; Firmware updating , Yes or No?

I've gotten conflicting input from persons whom I consider to be far more Knowledgeable in their Geekness than am I.
Let me lead off by saying that they are ALL very long-term Mac-ers, these are the people who convinced me to dive into Lake Cuppertino!
One "faction" advises to NOT install the firmware updates, that they are a risky proposition, that the computer is best off with the firmware installed with it's build.
The other group says that Apple wouldn't encourage us to update the firmeware if it wasn't safe and good and generally wholesome for our computers.
My experience with this thus far; The ONE time I did be all brave and studly and do the firmware update, it froze my computer so badly that I ended up having to make the 90-minute,(one way), journey to the Apple store and hand it over to the resident Genius.
Fortunately, it was the 15 minute fix, as opposed to the alternate possibility, which requires, apparently, 3 days.
So I was left with the feeling that the nay-sayers are indeed correct.
And I have some trepidation in risking it again, because I REALLY REALLY need my 'puter working, don't have so much time for driving a majillion miles to get, either a 15 minute, or a,(possibly), 3 days fix.
What can you folks tell me about this?
Does a significant interval between the inception firmware and the update you finally decide to install exacerbate the risky-ness of doing it?
Is there a point where you absolutely MUST update the firmware?
What causes the brick-ness after the install?
I am certain that there are MANY differing opinions and experiences.
I will appreciate any responses that may help to make this all clearer to me!
    THANKS, And CHEERS!

More than likely because they got bit when doing one or are paranoid from reading these "emergency room" episodes. That's the beauty of having multiple, bootable clones. You can do the updates on one and test to see if there are any pitfalls. This is my standard advice before updating/upgrading/installing new stuff.
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106941

    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html
If you only have a Time Machine backup, ensure that you can reliably restore it to another disk/volume/partition before updating/upgrading.

  • Question from the After Effects team about audio output

When you render and export a composition from After Effects that does not have audio content, do you ever enable audio output intentionally (thus creating an empty audio track in the output file)?
If so, why, and what formats do you use?
We're in the process of making some improvements to how audio is handled, and we want to make sure that we haven't broken any common workflows.
(Note: If you're not sure about how to enable audio output, see this page: "FAQ: Why is there no sound (audio) in my output file?" )

For me, I can't think of a common use-case where that would be necessary. I suppose there are times when you want a file to conform to an existing structure, such as when you want to replace media in Premiere, and the new file needs to have the same number of audio tracks as the old file (which you may not have created). Even though that hardly ever happens (I remember replacing proxies when CS3 got the ability to import P2 footage... it was... not very cooperative), I wouldn't want to lose the ability to arbitrarily export an empty audio track, because I'm sure there are other edge cases which I can't think of. But, I wouldn't mind losing it as a default behavior.
It sounds like what you're hinting at is a feature where the render module detects whether there is any audio in the comp before committing to some kind of default audio track export setting. If there is no audio in the comp (or if all the audio in a comp is disabled), it wouldn't export an audio track.
As long as there is a setting to override this behavior (i.e.: enabled / if detected / disabled) that can be built into an export preset, I'd love such a feature.
I, too, often forget to turn on audio export, because most of my comps don't use audio (I sync audio in Premiere, usually) and I don't like having empty audio tracks I don't need. But in the rare cases I do need audio, it's really annoying to go back and re-export the audio because I forgot to turn it on (similar to forgetting to enable an alpha channel, which makes me feel really stupid).

  • Is it possible to charge an iphone from the car USB music input port?

Do I need to use the power port to chage my new iphone or can it be done through the usb port for music.  I got a "may operate at low capacity message" on the screen - or somehting like that.
    thanks for your help

2/3 or what you'll use the iPhone with will give you the optimized message.  Just ignore it.  If the battery looks like it's charging, it's charging.  When I plug into my Acura TL I get that message, the battery charges, and everything works just like it should including my Phone with calls.  No damage will be done to your phone.
