Question - Histogram changes after export?

When I export to a jpeg file from Lightroom, whether I choose sRGB or ProPhotoRGB, often but not always, the histogram changes dramatically.
In the worst cases, pictures that looked good and were well balanced are suddenly over-exposed with blown highlights (and I'm not talking fractions!)
Can anyone explain why this should happen and what is the best way of controlling results as I send the shots to magazines for publication?
p.s. I have just discovered that if I export to a Tiff file first, then export that Tiff to a jpeg, all in sRGB, it works and the histogram is barely altered. This has to be a bug, surely?

My comment was not directed at anyone particularly, but rather at Adobe.
I am tired and weary, after having paid thousands of pounds for their products to have absolutely no sensible recourse to help.
Their FAQ section is a joke and, like so many large companies that charge very high prices for their products, they abrogate responsibility and leave it to members of forums to provide the answers.
Indeed, it is something of a miracle to even arrive at anything approaching relevant in this area as their search engine seems to throw up just a very few and mostly obsure results when used. I entered 'altered histogram' and got a sum total of 14 hits, none of which were remotely appropriate. This, I have to say, is far from a new experience for me either, which begs me to ask just how unique is it to process RAW Sony files and convert to JPEG? That's all I do!
Certainly, I do admire those who are willing to offer their help freely. You, presumably, are one such individual.
Unfortunately, when all I want to do is work hard and earn a little money, to find software behaving inexplicably and then discover that I seem to be the only person in the whole wide world ever to have seen this effect, despite the millions of others doing pretty much exactly the same thing, I find it very hard to be bouyant and positive.
To get back to the issue at hand, I understand the basic mechanics of colour space (including the understandable but limiting fixation with ProphotoRGB in Lightroom).
It would, however, appear that I have now resolved the issue myself by reinstalling just about everything. Of course, I will likely never discover the cause, so pity the next individual who has been overcharged by Adobe and finds themselves in the same boat, when the only solution is a few hours of uninstalling, cleaning registries, reinstalling, etc.

  • Color change after exporting from Lightroom

I noticed a drastic color change after exporting a file from Lightroom to a JPEG file today. I have been using Lightroom for a while, and it never happened before. I am assuming that I changed the setting somehow and I cannot find how to fix it.
    Here is the original.
After exporting to a JPEG. The color is so drastically different. I tried both sRGB and AdobeRGB and they turn out to have the same problem.
It is not as clear as JPEG files, but edited files with Photoshop CS5 also looks slightly different viewed on Lightroom.
I would appreciate it if anyone could help me.  Thank you so much for your help!

Thanks everyone for looking into my problem!
    >Can you upload a sample of each
    >* Raw File
    >* XMP Sidecar
    >* Exported JPEG
I somehow can't find XMP sidecar files in my folders.... So instead, I exported the JPEG file to the 2nd JPEG file, hoping you can compare those two JPEG files.
The colors get lighter and lighter every time I export the files. I uploaded those files (RAW, 1st JPEG, 2nd JPEG) on line. I also changed the file samples from the original post because I can't add watermarks.
I checked my flles, but there is no preset applied to the JPEGs.
I am thinking of unistallng Lightroom and reinstalling it and see what happens.
    Thanks!

    Hi
The colors of my movie change after i export them.
I tried to find the anser on all kind of forums but i believe i'm the only one with this problem.
    My settup:

  • Photo quality change after exporting

    Hello
I'm working on a short film project that should be made from photos not videos (so photos are critical in this iMovie project), but after exporting the movie ( in HD) I found out that the photos' quality were reduced?
Most of the photos are darky, with dark backgrounds, they look good enough in iMovie but after exporting they look lighted up, which ruins my movie.
    What should I do??
    Thanks in advance

That is odd, I have not been aware of any drop in camera quality via an update with this model. With this being the case I would advise running the update again and choosing the "Repair" option.

  • IMovie sound quality changes after export and is terrible

when i export my imovie the sound quality becomes bad and sounds like my speakers are blown but their not, it sounds perfectly fine in imovie but after its exported it changes to worse, anyone know how to fix this?

Check your audio levels. and if necessary, reduce the levels so that the audio stays under the 0 DB line. If you have audio that is yellow or red, reduce the level. This video shows an example of how to do this. Click on the video All New Audio Editing."

  • Colour Profile change after Exporting a version

    Hi
Has any one had this problem - and found a solution?
My Aperture Preferences are set to - Adobe RGB 1998.
    Now,
1     -     if I select an image in Aperture then select EDIT WITH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
the image is opened in p/s
when I view the image in Bridge
the  colour profile is correct - Adobe RGB 1998
    Problem:
2     -     if I select an image, then EXPORT A VERSION (to my desk top)
the colour profile changes to sRGB   ?
Don't understand why this is happening - anybody know why?
                             Thanks
                                  Tony (from London)

The color profile is part of the export preset as Keith pointed out
Make sure the preset you are using has the color profile you want.

  • File numbers change after exporting

When I edited my pics and then exported them to a CD the file numbers change so that when I look at wedding pics, I see the reception with the rehearsal pics. I still have the right numbers attached to the master file in the backup section of my hard drive. Did I do something to change the data?

You probably renamed them on export. It's an option in the export dialog.

  • Font Changes after export

    Hi there,
am going with a small problem here,
in my report am displaying some HINDI fonts which is displayed perfectly during the report load, but when i export it to PDF and  WORD formats the font is changing to square boxes,
but its coming fine when i export it into excel file....
can anybody get me some solution for this
any help will be greatly appreciated
      Regards
      Nayeem.....

    Hi Nayeem,
You need to use a UNICODE font and one that is not Licensed, CR will not embed licensed fonts into PDF files. Odd that it doesn't work in Word though.
Not sure what OS you are using but in XP go into Control Panel, Regional and Language Options and click on the Advanced tab and check on the option to Apply all setting to.... in the default user account area. Then go to the Languages tab and check on the option to Install Files for east asian languages. We have a dependency on that option as of R2. It adds about 10 meg of files so you'll need your Windows CD.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Colors change after exporting from 5.2 upgrade

I did not have this problem prior to upgrading to Lightroom 5.2
I import .jpg photos into lightroom, adjust brighness and colors, export photos. All of the exported photos have odd colors. Blue skies are too purple. Warm woods are shifted greenish. The new photos are unusable because the colors are so distorted. It looks like the hue is shifted but I cannot be sure.

  • Dimensions change after exporting.

I have a 492x242 pixel file but every time I export it out to any other type of file it becomes 1025x504 pixels. jpeg's, png's, and .pdf's. I'm not sure what's wrong.

Export at 72 dpi and it will be the original pixel dimensions. The  1025 px dimension dived by 150 dpi is 492 px. As for the PDF version, never seen them export differently than the page size (plus bleed, etc if added). ID assumes 72 px per inch.

  • Number of Level 0 blocks change after Export

    Dear All,
I have a cube call test which is a copy of a running cube.
I have the same number of level 0 blocks in the two cubes.
The number of blocks is 33 492 on both
    I am
1- exporting level 0 data from test
2- clear all the data -> Number of level 0 blocks = 0
3- importing the text file from Step 1
    4- Essbase return SUCCESS
and the the number of level 0 blocks had move down to 30 842
    Gap : 2 650
    i don't understand why I have a gap ? Any technical reason ?
    Best regards

    Hi Thr,
The reason that the number of blocks is reduced is most likely due to the data block cells all having #MISSING values. Essbase does not export #MISSING blocks and hence the reduction in blocks once you reimport the data.
The missing blocks could have been caused by #MISSING being written to blocks that previously had data values and the block will continue to exist until the data is exported and the export file is reimported.
    Cheers...!!!

  • Movie Changed After Exporting

Making a movie using i-movie 9.  Did some editing and watched what we thought was what we wanted.  Exported and put into Magic DVD.  The movie ended up being the original without all the edits.  What did I do wrong?

One of the suggested paths for exporting from iMovie to iDVD on the iMovie Discussin Group is to Share to Media Browser instead of Shared to iDVD. I don't know if that will address the problem you're having but the final image quality of the DVD will be better. Go to Share Menu > Share to Media Browser. That will export it to the special storage area within iMovie that shares the video out to other iLife applications including iDVD.

  • Aperture custom crop dimensions change after exporting

I am a professional photographer that uses Aperture for photo editing and management.  I have very specific pixel dimensions that I need to use for finished work.  I set up my custom crop to my dimensions, but when I export the dimensions are not exact.  For example, my crop size is 2166X1600.  I end up with 2166X1599, 2166X1598, 2166X1601, and 2166X1602.  Any crops off by more than two pixels, I have to go back and try to recrop.  Any thoughts on why the custom crops aren't exactly what you set them up to be?

Export at 72 dpi and it will be the original pixel dimensions. The  1025 px dimension dived by 150 dpi is 492 px. As for the PDF version, never seen them export differently than the page size (plus bleed, etc if added). ID assumes 72 px per inch.

Hello, I have been exporting my photos with a watermark. Without changing any settings, half way through my day things changed, and now about 1 out of 7 photos have the watermark after export. Change you help me change this back please? Has anyone had this issue before?

I'm sorry to learn that you have endured the audio issues outlined in your post for almost 2 years SusanLM1! This is certainly not normal! Let's get to the bottom of this issue, first please confirm your phone model; your mention that you have the iPhone 5 but your post is on the iPhone 5S forum. Also, share the iOS version currently installed on your phone. What is your ZIP code? Does this happen mainly while you make/receive calls from a particular location (home, office, etc)?

  • In SSRS , after exporting report in excel, wrap text property for cell and freeze column for SSRS table header not working in Excel

I am working no one SSRS my table headers are freeze cangrow property is false and my report is working perfect while rendering data on RDL and i want same report after exporting in Excel also , i want my table header to be freeze and wrap text property
to work after exporting in my report in excel but its not working ,is there any solution ? any patch ? any other XML code for different rendering ?

    Hi Amol,
According to your description, you find the wrap text property and fix column is not working after exporting into Excel. Right?
In Reporting Services, when exporting to excel file, it has limitation for textbox.
Text boxes are rendered within one Excel cell. Font size, font face, decoration, and font style are the only formatting that is supported on individual text within an Excel cell.
Excel adds a default padding of approximately 3.75 points to the left and right sides of cells. If a text box’s padding settings are less than 3.75 points and is just barely wide enough to accommodate the text, the text may wrap in Excel.
In this scenario, it supposed to be wrap text unless you merge cells. If cells are merged, word-wrap does not work correctly. If any merged cells exist on a row where a text box is rendered with the
AutoSize property, autosize will not work. For the Fix Data Property, it can't be working in Excel. These are features when exporting to Excel. We can't change it because it's by design.
