Question iDVD menu plan

Hello, how to avoid to start to read a video from the video itself but from the MENU (theme), please ?

You must have the video set to to auto start.  Click on the Map button at the bottom and see if the video is in the blue autostart bin at the far left;
If your video is shown in the blue bin drag it out. That will make the iDVD project display the menu until the viewer clicks on the video button in the menu.

  • Image size and dpi for iDVD menu custom background?

I created a custom background for my iDVD menu. When showing
on my TV, part of the words and image is cut off on each side, even after adjusting my tv picture between wide screen and standard screen.
What is the correct size and dpi to make a photograph to use as a background
image in the menus? This may have been answered before, so I apologize for posting the same question, if so.

iDVD will try to downsize the image to work, but your TV often will overscan with the result being edges clipped off. The amount of clipping can vary, so the "TV Safe" settings will typically be the center 80-90% of the image. So, if you add a border that makes the image 10-15% larger, that should display the whole image. For example, if you had a 150 dpi image that was 640x480, you could put a 10% border on it so the final image was 704x528.

  • Is there a way to get my iDVD Menu to the beginning of my movie on the DVD?

Is there a way to get my iDVD Menu to the beginning of my movie on the DVD?

Go into the Map mode and make sure there are no items in the far left hand bin.
If there is something in that bin drag it out, save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.  To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to lift a segment of a song for iDVD menu

how to lift a segment of a song for iDVD menu
I do not want to lop off the end-- I want to lift a middle segment of a piece of music and loop it on the menu page for iDVD
    Help?

Try adjusting the start and end point in iTunes Info window for that particular track:
However, before committing to a disk burn save it as a Disk Image and play it with DVD Player to make sure the edit in iTunes was carried out in the final product.  It doesn't in some instances.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • No iDVD menu on desktop

When I double click on iDVD icon ( in Dock or in Apps folder ) iDVD shows
on Menu Bar at top of screen and window opens with "open project"
"new project" and "open tutorial" choices. But when I select any of those
three, the window goes away but nothing else happens, no iDVD menu
appears. The program doesn't freeze, I can still pull down 'file' and select
"new project" etc, but with same results. I have sucessfully used iDVD 3 or 4
times in the past few months, the last time was about a month ago. This is the first time I have tried it since then. I have tried two things: I put the iDVD preference file from the library folder in the trash. And I copied the iDVD
application from my Mac HD to my internal 200 GB drive and tried opening it
from there. No change. I am a novice so I am flailing around here. Any help?

My standard list of things to do first...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
    Reboot your Mac.
Yours is certainly a new one!

  • Putting multiple chapter-marked movies under one IDVD menu

I am currently making various instructional videos for a company and I want to fit 4 separate imovies that are chapter-marked under 1 idvd menu so I can fit this in 1 Dual layer DVD . Any answer can help. Thanks
    Macbook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I assumed the OP had tried that and it failed..
I asssumed he was using the 'Export from iMovie' approach that only gives you a way to add one movie to an iDVD project.
Anyway, we should have him covered.

For the $9.99 plan is there a minimum monthly committment?  Or is it pay by month and cancel anytime?

Hello and thank you for your answer.  I do have one other question: with the createPDF subscription, can I create a pdf (from a Word document) that is text searchable and that recognizes the sequential numbering scheme in the pdf's page search field?
Thank you in advance for your answer to this query,

  • Can I use an iDVD menu theme w/ toast 7.0 video content?

    Hi:
I am fairly new to making DVD’s. I recently had some super-8 movies converted to iDV format. I imported the footage into iMovie and was able to align an existing soundtrack and get everything exactly the way I wanted it. When I converted the movie to a best-quality QuickTime movie, it looked great too! However, when I tried to burn a DVD on iDVD with this same QuickTime file (not using the 'Share' button), the movie came out very pixilated during scenes with any motion whatsoever.
However, using toast 7.0, a dvd I made looked quite excellent in comparison, using the same QuickTime file.
My question: would it be possible to use the nice-looking toast 7.0 conversion of the video file in iDVD so I can use one of the themes I like in iDVD? What I would like is one of the older iDVD themes where the menu has a projector showing some clips on a screen.
I am wondering if this would somehow be possible by burning a disc image and swapping the video data. I appreciated any response from a knowledgeable source. I suppose I could just use the toast program without the theme I like as a worst-case scenario.
    Thanks!,

What I always do is first edit the movie as you do in iMovie. Then pass it to iDVD to add the menus etc. Then I always press 'save as a disc image' which puts a rendered file on your desk top. Then when ever I want to put that film on to DVD I just drag that image into Toast and that puts a copy on DVD. I'm not sure why you need at any time to convert to quicktime.
ps. - 'Save as disc image' is under file in iDVD.
I think this is what you are looking for. Sorry if I have mis-understood the question.

  • IDVD menu transitions help!

    Hey guys,
I have a quick question about iDVD. Is it possible to have a sound only play when you enter into a menu?
For example - If i enter the extras menu, i want a short 10 second sound to play.
Is there any way in iDVD to do that?
    thanks,
    Dustin

I know that you can do that, but i don't want it to
loop. Is there any way to make it not loop? That's
    what I am aiming for.
You can make it a LONG loop..... but it eventually will loop back to the start.

  • IDVD menu - want to use as DVD label...how?

Just made my first DVD with my new external burner!!!
Am very excited, as it came out perfectly - it is an iMovie that my son and I made 2 years ago for school, that we transferred straight from computer to VCR at the time.
    Anyway, my question is...
Is there a way to take a picture of the menu (with the pic and wording the way it shows when I put the DVD into the player)?
It came out really cool, and instead of trying to re-create it in another program, it'd be great if I could just copy it straight from iDVD...I want to use it to make a label for the DVD. There are no moving videos in the menu...
I am using iDVD 4.01 with OS 10.2.8
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Sue!
Yes, it is fun! and I am very excited...especially because I have video and photos from our friends' wedding last Nov., that I want to try and make a dvd for them!
I appreciate your answer, and will try it the way you suggest!
I was trying Grab with iDVD open with it showing the menu, and all of Grab's services are greyed out...
So, I did a Help search and found the keyboard shortcut for taking a screen pic of a window.
This gives me a pdf file, though not very good, may be good enough to take into Illustrator and print that way.
Your way sounds like it will work better...
    Thank you, again!
    All the Best,
    Alicia

  • Idvd menu playback

Hi I have two questions/issues with iDVD. I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to iDVD but I have checked all over the internet for the answers.
First I am using the soft frame theme and I am using all three drop zones with video filling them. When I play back the dvd in the dvd preview the video plays very choppy. It is almost frame by frame. The effects of the menu are also slow (in fact the whole preview of the dvd seems to be slow).
My second problem is that when adding background music the dvd takes the whole length of the song to loop, and in the short time is takes someone to choose a button the first drop zone is still looping.

Q: First I am using the soft frame theme and I am using all three drop zones with video filling them. When I play back the dvd in the dvd preview the video plays very choppy. It is almost frame by frame.
A: Don't rely so much on iDvd's preview function as much as apple's dvd player app. The latter is what you should use to test actual Dvd playback. What I do is make a disc image from the file menu in iDvd. Then I open the media from apple's dvd player. Assuming it plays as expected, I then burn to Verbatim Dvd-R at 4x.
As for the requested audio adjustments you are trying to make. You have at least 2 choices. You can adjust the loop duration and volume as shown below within iDvd itself. Or you can edit the audio outside of iDvd in iMovie, QT Pro, GB, etc. And customize the track /length prior to adding it to audio well in iDvd.

Here's what iDvd's Help Menu recommends.

Hope this helps but if not just come on back. And good luck.

  • Is there any way to just export an iDVD menu?

I made a slideshow on iMovie using the bumper in the theme "Reflection Black," but it was rather hard to focus on the photos and was a bit rigid between each set.
Then I exported my slideshow to iDVD and used the reflection black menu. The photos turned out way clearer on the menu and it ran very smoothly!!
I know this is a silly question, but is there any way I can just export the menu without adding an actual movie file to it?
I was going to put it on our website and only need a very short clip, so the menu would suffice.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

    Welcome to the forums.
You could use Snap Z Pro to do a video screen capture while the "menu" is playing and convert that movie into a format for the web.

  • Want to transfer 6min FCE video file to DVD to watch without iDVD menu

I have just made a short photo slideshow to music lasting 6 minutes. I want the file to play on DVD without a DVD menu from iDVD - just play when inserted into the DVD machine.
    How do I do this?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Matt

Click the map button at the bottom of the main iDVD screen. Then drag your slide show into the "Auto-play" box at the top of the DVD menu.
