Question install patch Solaris 8

Haai,
I have to install Solaris 8 on a ProLiant DL 140 server ( http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/platforms/index-dl.html )... It must be Solaris 7 or 8 because spectrum dont support higher versions of Solaris... When I boot from cdrom, I get the message that Solaris 8 dont have support for disks larger then 40 Gig. I have searched for that problem and the solution is to install a patch with de Device Configuration Assistant (=DCA) but that DCA gives the following problem on my screen
SunOS Secondary Boot version 3.00
prom_panic: Could not mount filesystem
Entering boot debugger:
[12ff05]:
After searching a solution for that problem, I get the following information:
The bug is fixed by applying the Patches 108822-02 / 110930-01. 110930-01 contains a replacement DCA boot floppy, while 108822-02 is just the fixed boot.bin binary for an already installed system.
Installing the 110930-01 patch was no problem but I dont understand how I can install the 10822-02 patch. Can someone give me a simple explanation how I can do that? I have made the bootable floppy on a working Solaris machine.
Thanks in advance!

which has not been applied to the system.
So I decided to install the patch 113886-35; but iI received the following message:

Thanks for all.

  • Difficulty in installing Patch manager 2 on Solaris 9

    Hello,
I have a Solaris 9 machine on which I am trying to install Patch Manager
    2. I have PatchPro 2.2 also installed on the same machine.
Since PatchManager2 requires some patches to be installed previously
like: 112945 117593 117595, I tried to install these. The last one
117595 if I understood correctly contains the patch manager itself. The
problem is that I installed 112945-40 which the patch manager doesn't
like and would instead require 112945-27. I tried patchrm 112945-40 and

    Hi All,

Please clarify my doubt, as I'm gonna appear 1Z0-233 exam shortly.

    Hi Joe,
thanks a lot for your hint, the problem is solved with editing /etc/release.
There should be a user-information pointing to the source of the problem, just aborting
the install-script is not very nice.
Do you know whether this "/etc/release-abort" is present with update to LMS 4.01 install-script
    and other patches?

  • Unable to install a Solaris OS in a Single disk slice

    Hi,
We are unable to install the Solaris-OS on a single slice disk.
We found that, only "Solaris 10 10/08 (U6)" release can support the single slice disk installation, prior release are not. Is it true ?
We found it from "LDoms Community Cookbook " , from given link
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/SolarisLogicalDomains/Section+2+-VirtualDevices
    Paragraph is
" Before Solaris 10 10/08 (U6), when a backend is exported to a domain as a single slice disk, it will appear in that domain as a disk with a single partition (s0). Such a disk is not visible with the format(1m) command and its partition table can not be changed. A single slice disk will not be visible from the Solaris installer and can not be select as a disk device on which Solaris can be installed. "

  • Error in installing patch 9.0.1.4. "Exception in Thread "main"

    Hi to all....
Want to ask a problem regarding installing patch Oracle database patch 9.0.1.4.
Previously, i got problems in installing other patch. The solution i got is to install the below patch.
They suggested that i have to install Patch 3038037.
and when I read the ReadMe of Patch 3038037, it stated
    2 Preinstallation Requirements
The following list is the preinstallation requirements for this patch set:
Ensure that Oracle database patch 9.0.1.4 is applied to database instances
before applying the Oracle9iAS version 9.0.2.3 patch to infrastructure
    instances.
So, in this case, i have to install "Oracle database patch 9.0.1.4" first
before i can install "Patch 3038037"
So, currently, i am trying to install the Oracle database patch 9.0.1.4...got error that are
    1) Tried to run runInstaller in Disk1
    ./runInstaller: Command not found
2)The runInstaller in Disk1 actually will run runInstaller in folder "Disk1/install/solaris"..
but when i run it, it gaves me
"Exception in Thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:/ "
    Have any ideas or experience?
    Regards,
    Rushdan.

try execute: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 before you run ./runInstaller
Btw try look at http://www.puschitz.com for installation guide.

anyone any ideas what's going on ? I'm running Solaris 10 GA.

This issue should now be resolved. If you are using the Update Manager you will first need to manually update your analysis (click "Check for Updates") which will clear out the bad patch meta data causing the problem. You then should be able to use UM to install updates as intended.
    thanks for your patience

  • Help with Video Card Install on Solaris 8

I have a video card with nvidia4 chipset. After installing solaris 8 on my system I get a screen that is too big to fit on the monitor, so I have to scroll down to see everything. Plus it displays 16 colors. I tried to install the FreeBSD drivers that are availble on the nvidia site but could not run "make" command. Anyone know how to solve this?

    There are two options:
    1. Install the latest Solaris 8 x86 video driver patch109401-14
    available at:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/xprod-Solaris_x86IntelDrivers&nav=pub-patches
This may add native support for your nvidia chipset. If it doesn't,
then you have the option to try the new VESA driver which is
included with this patch as well - the VESA driver is supposed to work
on all cards that have the necessary VESA support bios routines.
    2. Install the "Solaris XFree86 Video Drivers and Porting Kit"
    http://soldc.sun.com/developer/support/driver/tools/video/video-index.html
It adds support for many video cards by using XFree 4.2.0 video
driver modules. It also includes another variant of the VESA driver.

    Hussein,
    I have a question.
Is this means customer need to execute following steps first
    3. Install Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control (11.1.0.1.0)
3.1. Install OEM on the OMS server
3.2. Install OEM Agents on the Targets (where EBS is installed)
3.2.1. Targets having the same OS version as the OMS server
3.2.2. Targets having different OS versions as compared to the OMS server
Then, patch 8333939 can be applied successfully?
    Because refer to
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17559_01/em.111/e18708/T506934T511454.htm
    Section "Running Oracle Universal Installer"
    It says:
Stop all the Management Services before installing the pack to a Management Service. Management Services will be restarted automatically after the pack has been installed.
    Stop the OMS.
    $PROMPT> $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl stop oms
Note: If your EM Repository (EM Database) is on the same machine, it must be left running. Only OMS and Agent services need to be taken down.
Set the environment variable ORACLE_HOME to ORACLE_HOME of Management Service 11.1.0.1 as shown here:
    export ORACLE_HOME=/d1/oracle/em11g/oms11g
Then unzip this patch and install it. Am I right?
My customer's purpose is to install EM on R12, does
Note 1224313.1: Getting Started with Oracle E-Business Suite Plug-in, Release 4.0 (Doc ID 1224313.1)
    is the correct note?
    Thanks,
    Jackie

  • Smpatch update ALERT: Failed to install patch

I do not even know where to start. Since installing Solaris 10 0606 it
seems every time I try to patch the system I get failures of one type
or another. One problem today has to do with zones:
"To install the new instance of this package in all zones you must
first remove the existing instance of this package from the global
zone first (via pkgrm) and then install the new instance of this
    package in all zones."
If sun already knows a pkgrm must be run why can't the smpatch command
    just do it?
    Another problem seems to be
For patch 121018-03, required patch 120759-04 does not exist
If sun knows a patch is required which is not on the system just Getit
    and install it.
Also, what is up with having to reboot the box to install patches?
Why? Has this always been a required step? Do these reboots pertain only to kernel patches .etc?
I have seen other postings in this forum expressing unhappiness with
the patch system, some mentioning testing lab/group or certification
issues. I think smpatch should have an option to send smpatch results
back to sun for review. That way the Certification Group could have
real life situations to investigate. Or do they know the problems
already and just dont want to fix them? Just once I would love it if
smpatch came back with no failures and I was assured the system was
patched, up to date and secure.
    Regards

Enterprise users have strict policies on change management so dependent patches are not automatically installed when using "smpatch add". Neither are packages blithly uninstalled for zones if currently only existing in the global zone.
For your needs using "smpatch update" should analyse, download and install dependant patches in order for patches specified on the command line or for a global update. Note that that is with the exception of patches not matching the currently defined patch policy such as those needing a reboot. See the smpatch man page for information on policies.
Patches requiring reboots or being installed in single user mode are primarily for kernel and driver patches.
Your problems installing the Sun Studio 11 patches have been encountered previously in regards to globally installed packages (and are covered in this forum) and is due to a combination of bug ID's 6337009, 6214678 and 6374972 for the patching utilities of which the last is still open.
You will currently have to manually install the patches using patchadd with the "-G" flag whilst in the global zone to install them in the global zone only.

  • 1Z0-238 and 11i Install, patch and maintain.....

    hi,
I took the "11i Install, patch and maintain Oracle Applicaiton" course from oracle university about couple of years ago and now we are already on release 12.0.6. I want to attempt 1Z0-238 which is actually a R12 certificaftion exam. Question is; Can i attemp 1Z0-238 a release 12 exam with a course taken from previous release.
I dont want to be in situation where oracle will say either take the R12 course or re attemp an 11i exam..... :(
Your valueable comments are very much appriciated.
    thansk and regards,

Anyone know if there are any plans in the works for an Oracle Press book for the 1Z0-233 exam?
    Also, has anyone read:
Installing, Upgrading and Maintaining Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Release 11.5.10+ (Or, Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks - Release 11i Care and Feeding (Paperback)

And is it any good? No reviews yet on amazon, or elsewhere that I've found.
    Thanks for the info,

  • How to install patchs in linux

    Hi Friends,
I am new person. How do I install oracle patchs in linux redhat 5.0 system?
Plz show me some steps in detail.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim
    Sorry for the late answer.
What patches are we taking about?
Oracle patches? Yes then you have to use
    0. First read the installation note given on metalink it gives your a detailled description what shall be done.
In metalink go to Patches & updates
make a simple search on your patch and read the read me file
Please control also that the file downloaded is consitent by controlling the value of the "patch digest"
    for example :
    File      Digests
    p7369190_10203_Linux-x86-64.zip
    SHA-1      295AF3B7585BB00093CF7DB25A314E750B3A76AE
    MD5      7D1C9C9B36D646E557DE250458067B1B
    i.e.
to list all the installed patches :
    $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lsinventory
    unzip p7369190_10203_<platform>.zip
    cd 7369190
    opatch napply -skip_subset -skip_duplicate
And if the patch is changing something in the datadictionary :
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/cpu/CPUOct2008
    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    SQL> STARTUP
    SQL> @catcpu.sql
    SQL> QUIT
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    SQL> @utlrp.sql
You can check for any invalid objects by executing following statement:
    SQL> SELECT OBJECT_NAME FROM DBA_OBJECTS WHERE STATUS= 'INVALID';
    Voilà !
    more question please ask!

  • Reboot system after installing patches

    Hi all,
My ZLM server executes two remote policies. The first one it registers the device to the catalog and the second policy is used to install patches using rug up -y.
    Few questions:
    a) There 's any way to reboot the systems automatically after aplying all the updates?
    b) I have found this document Cool Solutions: SLE10: Apply Updates Without New Kernel Updates Being Applied .Is it the best way to dont install the kernel related patches? Or there is any other way?
    Thanks in advance

    b) you could "split" your zlmmirror proze. In the first you exclude the kernel patches
    Code:
    <ExcludeBundle>patch-.*kernel.*</ExcludeBundle>
    <ExcludePackage>kernel.*</ExcludePackage>
and in the second you mirror only the kernel patches
    Code:
    <Bundle>patch-.*kernel.*</Bundle>
    <Package>kernel.*</Package>
    Hope that helps.
