Question involving PDF's on Stock Paper

Hi, I'm hoping someone could answer this question for me.  We are currently implementing LiveCycle ES and a designer template to replace an existing process.  Our current process produces Postscript files, we then add media calls to the postscript files for our highspeed printer center.
The postscript commands look like this:  <</MediaColor(white)/MediaType(2010StockNotice)>>setpagedevice
My question is, is there a way to do this in PDF using LiveCycle Designer templates?
Would this possibly be done in LiveCycle Output?  via an XDC file?
NOTE:  It's more than just saying page 1 is to be printed from Paper tray 1, Page 2 on Paper tray 2 etc.  It's the actual Media type name so that our highspeed print center knows which stock to load.
Thanks,
Terry

Firstly,
Thanks for answering my questions it's been helpful so far.
To rephrase my question... Is there a way in LiveCycle Designer to insert postscript commands (i.e. as metadata or somewhere else) which would be picked up during the printing?  Specifically the setpagedevice command?
If the answer to the above question is no, then is the alternative solution to have LiveCycle Output generate a postscript file then specify an XDC file which has the media type specified in it?
My preference is to implement the LiveCycle Designer solution if its possible.
Thanks,
Terry

  • 11x17 PDF on 8.5x11 paper front and back?

Is it possible to print a 11x17 PDF on 8.5x11 paper front and back?  Thanks!

Assuming you are asking about printing either from Adobe Reader or Acrobat, it certainly is possible. And such printing has been possible for many, many years.
Simply select the fit or shrink oversize pages option (or some similar wording for earlier versions of these products) and set the printer to print on both sides of paper (or duplex from printer setup from earlier versions of these products).
However, if you really mean that you want to print an 11x17 page on 8.5x11 paper such that one half appears on the front and the other half appears on the back of the 8.5x11 paper, that is not directly possible with the current versions of Reader or Acrobat. In Acrobat (not Reader), you would need to duplicate the single 11x17 page and then crop each of the pages to 8.5x11 with one half of the original page on the first 8.5x11 page and the other half on the second 8.5x11 page. Save as a new document and then print normally with the duplex option to 8.5x11 paper.

  • Colour Profile Question - Press PDF

    Hi
I've got a quick question regarding colour profiles.
I've designed an A5 flyer for a client and I have my CS3 suite colour settings set to Adobe 1998 for RGB and Euro Coated for CMYK. The client has decided that this flyer is now to be printed on uncoated paper. So, should I be converting or assigning the working/document CMYK profile to Euro uncoated?
Also on output for press I have a PDF export setting which I use for creating press pdf's which is set to 'No Colour Conversion' and 'Don't include profiles', so in fact does the above matter at all?
I'm totally confused, any help appreciated!
    Thanks

I think you are guessing correctly, they may have some control which will work ok for them at a certain level.
You could convert in ID, which will alter the appearance and that will change the output file. Or you could manually adjust the colour/saturation to taste and let the printers go through their usual process and end up with better job.
They probably 'run to density' on press, so you are taking some of their control. Most printers at least calibrate their equipment to a standard, such as Euroscale and then suggest that clients use that when preparing files. That is what I guess when a printer does not have a custom profile.
What they are saying to you is that they are calibrated and their approximate appearance is based on Euro Coated on coated stock at a particular ink density measured at the press.
Uncoated stock looks desaturated, so if you increase your saturation and reduce your Total Ink, you can control the look at their desired press density.
This is not correct colour management, but reflects real world conditions in many commercial 'jobbing' printers in my experience.

  • How to auto-fill data into Acrobat 9 PDF created from scanned paper form/document

    Hello,
I am new to Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I have scanned a paper form/document that
originally  had various data lines to be written on using an ink pen.  I saved
the scanned PDF as an Acrobat 9 PDF.  I have added various pertinent text fields
and checkboxs to PDF form and saved it with appropriate extended setting to
allow end-user to type on PDF and save a copy.  At the bottom form there is a
name/signature text field for end-user name to be typed and a calendar text date
when name/signature text field is entered .
I need to send this PDF form to various end-users using (Groupwise/Novell) email
to have them sign or type their name and date at bottom of form.  Is there a way
that Adobe Acrobat 9/PDF will recognize the email sender and allow the
name/signature field to automatically fill-in signature/name textbox.  Are there
tools like javascript, etc. that will help me accomplish this task?
I don't know where to begin. I am a newbie.  Please help!

  • A question about pdf form filling?

    Hello,
I received a form in PDF format as an attachment in an e-mail reply from a travel company. I have to fill in this form and return it to the sender.
I could print out the PDF form manually fill the required field and either fax to them or scan & send it as an attachment BUT
I would wish to open the document on my Mac Book Air -fill in the requested field by typing in my Mac Book Air and send it back as an attachment.
Is that possible? I could not do this in my Win 7 computer but wondered if my Mac would have tricks up it's sleeve to accomplish this task?
Thank you for your time to answer my question.

Thank you for your time and an answer.
    I do have Microsoft Word.
I do not know how to insert the PDF as watermark. Where do you find the picture radio button?
Would you mind telling the step involved  in getting my pdf file opened in the Microsoft Word?

  • Question - rename pdfs based on bookmarks in the files

I am totally new to javascript (have done some visual basic and other old-school programming).  I am scanning years of paper filing to searchable pdfs, and want to automate one important part of the process.  I suspect that what I need is fairly simple if you know javascript, but for me would be a big learning curve.
What I would like is a script that will
look at all the existing pdfs in a folder that I can specify each time the script is run
each pdf will already have one or two bookmarks (some will only have one; none will have more than two)
rename the file, using the first (or only) bookmark as the filename
change the create-date of the file, using the second bookmark as the date
save the file(s) in a new subfolder under the original folder - folder name unimportant
If the date is too problematic, then it is optional (the bookmark would be 'dumb' text, and the date format wouldn't be guaranteed the same for each) .
I've never run a script before, so please give (or point me to) the real basics, like, where do you save a script and run it from there -- all the ignorant questions!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Acrobat JavaScript cannot do most of those things. It has no access to foldera, and cannot rename files. There are two creation dates (on on the file like any other file, one stored inside the file) and it won't do either of them either.

  • Printing questions on AIO 8500, choice of paper and settings..

    hi,
so i recently purchased  the officeje all-in-one 8500.  i installed the printer and was going to use hp primium photo paper to test out some picture printing.  but when it came time to choose what paper type it was, i couldn't find one that match perfectly..  there was 'Advance Photo Paper' that was not it, 'HP Photo Paper Matte'..  that was not it.  'HP Primium Inject Paper', that doesn't seem it.  what do i choose?
my 2nd question is  what is the best setting to use for best printing?  i only try a couple sheets.  i didn't want to waste ink trying every possible combination.  but using 'Advance Photo Paper' and best setting, the picture turned out SUPER dark.  print quality was great but everything, especially the dark colors, turned out super dark.  using same paper, and 'normal' quality setting, the print quality was crap, but the color was more true to the actual picture color.
any help, suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    k

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard Question - Converting PDF to word document

Question:  I currently have Adobe Acrobat 8.  I need to convert a PDF to word document.  I know how to do that but the outcome of the word document sometimes varies as to retaining the exact formatting.  How can I retain exact formatting?  Is there something that I'm not doing that I need to be doing in order to retain the formatting.  Also do newer versions (Adobe Acrobat 11 (Standard or Pro?)) do a better job of converting and retaining formatting?

Retaining the exact formatting is not possible in practice or in theory because Word documents are nothing like PDFs. For example, Word will cheerfully reflow text onto new lines or pages, while this will never happen with a PDF.
That said, Adobe keep trying to get closer to what people need. Sometimes this results in complex parts of the file being made into an uneditable graphic or text box.
Bottom line is you can get the basics into Word and then (according to your time, experience, and the abilities of Word) you might be able to reconstruct.
On no account convert official forms to Word.

  • 2 part question about PDF output in RoboHelp 8

I've been able to generate fairly clean-looking PDFs in RoboHelp with the entire Help contents.
    My 2 questions are:
    1)  Is there a way to generate a Word document from the Help contents?  I notice that when I choose "batch generate" it appears to generate
a Word doc that behaves as a distiller file and then creates a PDF.  Is there a way to generate just a Word document?
    2)  If not, is there a way to set the settings within RoboHelp to allow you to edit the text in the generated PDF?
I do not have the full version of Acrobat and can't edit text with Adobe Reader.
    thanks for any feedback!

  • Font Embedding Question in PDF exported from PageMaker v7

I am having difficulty embedding the majority of my fonts in PDFs exported from PageMaker v7. When exporting to PDFs, a "cannot embed font" error is generated.
    Technical Details:
The fonts I have are ALL LEGAL, and were purchased with complete licenses when required.
The fonts properties show them to be completely embedable, with no restrictions in terms of installation, etc.
The fonts can be placed and embedded in PDFs from all other programs I've attempted this with (Illustrator, Acrobat, MSWord, WordPerfect, etc.).
    Disclaimer:
Yes, I know PageMaker is old, and yes, I am in the process of upgrading to Creative Sutie (although, as an aside, it is extremely disappointing that even a token discount is not offered to those who have purchased every Adobe and MacroMedia software package in the past, but I digress...). However, several of my clients require PageMaker files (for a variety of reasons I won't go into here).
Thank you in advance for any advice on what might be the underlying problem.

When generating PDF output from Pagemaker, I've used 2 methods:
    1. File>Export>PDF
This method works fine for a limited number of fonts (AGaramond for example), which is why I started this post. Bob Levine had suggested using Distiller instead.
    2. File>Printer Styles>Acrobat
I usually used this method when an offset printer requires crop marks, since the other method does not provide an option for crop marks.
This opens a window with numerous options, the pertinent ones to my question are:
Printer: New 2002 PPD for Adobe PS Driver on file
    PPD: Adobe PDF 3015.102
    Postscript: Download Fonts (3 options):
         None
         True Type and Type 1
         True Type Only
When I choose download "True Type and Type 1", I get the same "cannot embed font" error if I use most of my fonts (with the exception of a few that work).
When I choose NONE for the option, the PS file is generated without errors.
Once the .ps file is generated, I then use Distiller 4 to open the file and output PDF file.
If I used "True Type and Type 1" for download font option, and the font does not generate an error, the PDF file is fine.
If I used "NONE" for download font option, when I open the PDF, it indicates that the fonts are embedded. However, since I do not download the font, I am nervous that this might cause problems when I go to an offset printer.
I do not print to a file using a printer driver (for example Linotype, Acrobat, etc.). The 2 processes I've used seem to be independent of what the default printer is on the operating system (XP).
    Thanks!

  • Question regarding a method of stocking data

I know this thread already is in the "New to Java Technology" Forum, although I said the topic was closed there so I could open it back here.. I realized it would be more fitting here and it would probably get more replies...
I am working with a friend on a Client for Ultima Online and we have to stock data concerning the various objects and characters in the same sector as the Client. We have 3 ideas of what the best method could be, but we have no clue which method would be the most performant (concerning both speed and memory), or if there is a better method to do so.
Here's a description of the methods we thought about:
    Method #1
Create many class files for each type of object, having the various related variables in their respective classes...
Exemple: A principal class called DataObject which holds the data common to all objects/characters. Classes which extends DataObject such as DataMobile (for the Characters) and DataItem (for the Items) in which the data specific to characters and items is stocked. And also various classes for the various types of objects such as Containers which will extend DataItem...
    Method #2
Create a single class file which would hold an Array containing the various variables and of which the size would be the maximum amount of parameters possible. The array would work in relation with a byte which would hold the type of data stocked into the Array, this way we could know the structure of data and retrieve this data where it is in the Array...
Mthod #3 <= This one was the first idea and we know it is the worse one.. Telling you about it though
Create a single class file which would hold all the possible variables. These variables would only be used when necessary.
    Mthod #4
Create a single class file which would extend java.util.Hashtable. The parameters would be stocked this way: The Key mapped to the value would be the type of parameter (represented by a Byte (not byte)) (type of parameter such as Serial, Name, Strenght, Dexterity, etc...). And the value would be stocked as a String, Integer, Short or Byte according to the case (once again, it isn't primitives, it is the classes from java.lang.*).
Thanks in advance for the suggestions :)

This is not an advanced language topic. This is a beginner question, I would be very surprised if you got an answer in this forum.

  • Questions about PDF exporting with InDe CS5.5

    Hey all,
A couple questions about exporting to PDF from the latest version of InDe.
First, I have noticed that it seems to take a lot longer to get to a PDF. Any suggestions for how to speed up the process? It took 8 minutes or so to generate a low-res PDF (for print) of a 24pp document with a few placed images and vector graphics. Wow, that's a long time to wait, especially for a proof.
Second, the background task... if I get it going on making that 8-minute PDF and then work some more on the document, what exactly is in the PDF? Usually I save before making a PDF or printing. So, is the last version saved what will be in the PDF?
(As an aside, this ability to work on the doc while generating a PDF seems kind of weird. Generally one makes a PDF for proofing, or even for printing, when all the changes have been made and everything is "final". So, I see no benefit to being able to work on my document while it's making a PDF, as I'm probably finished making revisions for the time being. I have to say that I kind of like the progress bar you get when you make an interactive PDF, as you know you can't work on the document when that's on the screen... )
    Thanks as always.

Yes, this is abnormally long (and too long), something is wrong. What's the full version of InDesign you are running, as reported by holding down Cmd or Control and selecting About InDesign?
Second, the background task... if I get it going on making that 8-minute PDF and then work some more on the document, what exactly is in the PDF? Usually I save before making a PDF or printing. So, is the last version saved what will be in the PDF?
Saving is not related. InDesign makes a database snapshot of your document the moment you begin the PDF export, and makes the export relative to that snapshot, regardless of edits you continue to make during the export process, and regardless of saving. Of course saving first is a good idea, for several reasons, not the least of which it sounds like something's fairly seriously wrong with your document or your InDesign installation.
We recommend you trash your preferences and export your document to IDML and see if either of those things changes this 8-minute behavior...err, assuming you're running 7.5.2.318.

Yeah, I think the primary benefit is if you are likely to work on 2 or more files in parallel, so you can finish A and export A and then switch to B. If you'd like a dialog box to pop up when export is done, check out my exportPop script from this post: ANN: automatic dialog after background export (exportPop.jsx.

  • Automatically Generate a PDF File and a Paper Copy

Is it possible to generate a PDF file automatically when a report is printed to paper?  I don't want the users to print to paper in one process then have to print a second time to a PDF file because that step will be forgotten.

    Hi Layne,
I haven't heard of something like this. I'm sure CR does not have this functionality, however there could be third party add-ons for CR that could do this.

  • Question about PDFs

I'm sending letters to publishers who request PDFs.
Using pages, I can choose the print option and make a PDF using Preview.
But I'm sure many of these publishers use Windoze. Can I still send it via Preview (Windows Friendly Attachments) or should I download Adobe Reader and save them in that format?
One other question. This is a ONE PAGE PDF -- but it keeps showing up as a two page PDF-- with the second page blank. How do I make it just show up as ONE PAGE?
    Thanks, Dan

Adobe Reader won't generate PDFs. And I'd avoid it like the plague... it will hijack Safari's PDF viewing... really it's a piece of crap.
Generate a PDF via "print" as you've done and you can just email it. It will come across fine to Windows users, and there's no need to send Windows-friendly attachments.
If you want to chop off the second page, when you print, just select "print pages 1... to 1." before clicking the button to save as PDF. That will work fine... I do it all the time.

  • Print A4 PDF streched on A3 paper

I'm having a strange issue, the main goal is to print a pdf file with A4 size pages streched on A3 paper from my application via DDE, but the result is always a A3 paper with A4 pages :-/.
In Reader I set page scaling to "Fit to printable Area" and the default settings for default printer are A3 size, if I print from Reader it works, I have A3 paper with streched A4 pages, but from the application via DDE or selecting from explorer the PDF and right click -> Print the result is alway wrong, A3 paper with A4 pages not streched.
