Question mark in tab of my website

I have seen a few mentions of this, but no solution. Although it's not a huge problem, if anyone knows what is causing this and how to go about correcting it, I would be grateful.
My little site works fine in every regard. The only problem I have is that in the browser's tab, where I used to see the title of my site, I now see only a question mark. My guess is that I have to change a setting in iWeb 2.0.2, but I don't know which setting, and, furthermore, my guess might well be wrong.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
http://web.mac.com/pfee

First, thank you for trying to help.
I looked on my daughter's computer, who, like you, is running Safari 3.0.4, and saw a blank tab, just as you did. Because my composing software (Pro Tools) is not compatible with Leopard yet, I am still running 2.0.4, and it gives the question mark in the tab.
My web site is titled (or so I thought), and the title used to show up in the tab. I think it was when I upgraded to iLife '08 (with iWeb 2.0.2) that the title no longer appeared. When I check "Display navigation menu" the title of the page shows up on the page (I leave it unchecked, though, since my site consists of only one page, so no navigation is necessary). Whether that assures me that the page does indeed have a title I am not sure, but I would guess that it would.
Thanks again for your interest in helping me.

  • The question mark inside the qt on websites

when im using safari and get onto a website, question marks appear inside the quicktime symbol. i tried downloading flipmac and it still does the same thing. i dont know whats going on. im still green on the computer and its doing my head in.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Good you installed Flip4Mac, as you'll need it to view "Windows Media Files".
    Regarding the "?":
Click on the Apple icon in the upper left of the computer screen. This opens the "Apple Menu". Select "System Preferences". When the panel opens, select "Quicktime".
When the Quicktime Panel opens, select "advanced". Next, select "mime settings". In the ensuing panel is the Miscellaneous Box checked, or showing a "hyphen"? If so, uncheck the box. and close the panel window.
Restart Safari and try or any page where you encountered the "?".

  • Flashing folder with question mark - tried all options on website

My mom has a brand new MacbookAir which came installed with the OS Lion.  This folder suddenly started apperaring.  I did an internet reboot.  When I look at the Disk Utility, all I can find is the OS Base Recovery System.  I don't know how I can refix the problem, so my mom doesn't lose any data, and it works like how it used to.  Thanks!

Try booting while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk.
We have no way of knowing exactly what options you are referring to unless you tell us.
If using the Option key doesn't work, try reinstalling OS X using Lion Recovery
No need to erase the disk, just reinstall OS X.

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems loading images, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • On website I see question marks instead of images

On website I see question marks instead of images

If you see Develop in your Safari menu bar between Bookmarks and Window, click there then make sure Disable Images is not checked from the drop down menu.
If that is not the issue, try troubleshootiing Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • A music file on my iWeb website shows as a question mark and won't play.  Anyone know how I can fix this?

When I view the website using Firefox, it shows and plays beautifully.  But, when I view it on Safari, there is a tiny question mark where the audio control should be, and no music plays.  I'd really appreciate some help with this one.
    Many thanks,
    Joe Perrone Jr.

www.joeperronejr.com (in case you want to see the site)  It's the Home Page

I just opened your site with Safari and on the Home page the music play straight away and then there is the player at the bottom right of the page which I can see with no problem at all.
Perhpas you need to empty your brower cache for it to display correctly - it seems to be working correctly for others here who have viewed it in Safari.
Check your preferences and perhaps clear your cookies and then empty your browser cache.

  • Topics with ampersands (&) show up as question marks (?) inside Help's Search tab

    See the attached image.
    In the image:
Item A shows the Topic Title inside RH.
Item B shows what I'm typing in the Search tab of the HTML Help file. (I'm typing "GD&T").
Item C shows the list results. Notice that when I type "GD&T" in the search tab, the results return "GD?" ion the list of results.
In short the "T" is missing and the ampersand character shows a question mark character instead.
How can I get it to show an ampersand in this list and not delete the letter following the ampersand.
    Thanks in advance,

Some co-workers of mine eventually helped fix this.
In the Topic Title field for topic titles that have the & symbol, you need to type & in place of just an & symbol. This causes the & to appear within the Search tab list results. Note however that if you add this topic onto the Table of Contents, it will display & there, so you will need to rename the TOC to just use &.

  • Why are some websites displayed with added question marks inside black diamonds

Numbers are displayed with question marks inside black triangles before and following, possibly as column separators.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    Can you post a link?
You can try a few different encoding settings: "View > Character Encoding" like Western ISO-8859-1 or another Western encoding or UTF-8
You can also try to switch on Auto-Detect: "View > Character Encoding > AutoDetect > Universal"
A diamond with a '?' usually indicates that a character is missing in the font that is used on a website or the wrong encoding is used.
You get the '?' on websites that use an 8 bit encoding like ISO-8859-1 or a Windows encoding like Windows-1252.
This issue can happen if content was copied from one 8 bit or Unicode encoding to another encoding.

  • Banners are not displaying on a website. I get a question mark instead. Only since i updated to firefox 5 about ten minutes ago. Any ideas?

I just updated my firefox browser to firefox 5. Since then a website that i am in the process of creating, has stopped displaying banners. Instead of the advert i was expecting i get a question mark in the top left corner.

Adbock Plus is a Firefox extension, not part of Firefox, you don't have it.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/
I see two banners and they are not blocked (they are legitimate)
"The High Street for your Desk Top" and "It's Time to go shopping"
I see the question mark now you refer to, in IE is see
[Like] [f] 12 likes. Sign up to see what your friends like.
Which is something to do with FaceBook. Appears in IE9, Google Chrome, Safari, all show the Facebook thing. Opera fails big time nothing but a repeated large button (>) with an arrow.
    Might be the CSS code.

  • Websites loaded only with question marks.

Some websites are loaded only with question marks after I updated to Firefox 4.0.1. I have attached a screenshot in the link below.

Update Skype to the latest version. The one you have installed at the moment is incompatible with Firefox. See https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/blocklist/
In addition, go to Add-ons | Extensions and disable "BitDefender Antiphishing Toolbar". Test your sites where you get the question marks to see if it rectifies the problem. If it doesn't, you can re-enable it again.
Do the same with the Conduit Engine.
Install Java 1.6.0_25 via http://www.java.com/en/ and then remove all previous versions. Older versions are a security risk. Uninstall via Add/Remove Programs.
    Install VLC 1.1.9 via http://www.videolan.org
The version you have on your system exposes your machine to attack. Actually, version 1.1.9 is also insecure, but not as bad as the one you have installed. See [http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/VLC-Media-Player-1-1-9-closes-security-holes-1226673.html VLC Media Player 1.1.9 closes security holes] ''and'' [http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/A-new-security-flaw-hits-VLC-1225820.html A new security flaw hits VLC]
You'll just have to keep an eye on the videolan.org site for when they release a new patch.
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • Why do I have a blue square with a white question mark showing in place of images on some websites?

I have a Macbook Air with the most updated version of Yosemite. Im finding that on some websites, in place of images, I just get a blank space with a blue square in the middle and a question mark. Ive tried Chrome and Firefox too and the images still don't load. Can anyone suggest why this may be and offer any solution.
    Thanks

Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.

  • I can't see any pictures on some websites. just comes up a question mark

Some websites no images will load. It just comes up a question mark.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • When website or messages are opened that include pictures, all we get is a blue square with question mark I the centre. No pictures

When we access a site,or receive email with pictures we often get a blue square with a question mark in it, no picture ?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • MacBook Pro flashes file folder with question mark and startup manager will not run

My son's MacBook Pro won't boot (gets the flashing file folder with question mark).  When I try to open startup manager (holding "option" key during boot does not do it).  Other posts suggest inserting the install disk, but I am pretty sure that for Lion, there was no disk, it was just off the website through the App Store.  Any further suggestions?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Flashing Question mark on start up?

So when I try to start up my PPC G5, I hear the start up tone, and then it goes straight to a grey screen with a flashing question mark. I followed all the steps on Apple's website to resolve this, I held option and started up, and all that came up were two buttons, one looked like a circle with an arrow at the end of it and the other was a straight arrow, also I couldn't move the mouse past a certain point on the screen, so the mouse was responding, it just couldn't move past maybe an inch on the left side of the screen. I tried restarting with the mouse and keyboard unplugged too, no dice. Then finally I decided to just re-install the leopard operating system. I put the disc in, go through all the steps, and when it asks me where i want to install Mac OS X, there's nothing to select. Where an icon for the hard drive should be it is just blank. I tried clicking the blank space to refresh it and nothing happened. Also, I read online that usually waiting fixes it, I left it on overnight and still nothing has popped up. Also, I've already tried resetting the PRAM, and nothing happened. If anybody can help me fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Either how to install Leopard again or how to start it up without the flashing question mark. Thanks!

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
