Question mark ? on my Finder
Hello!
Since many days a "?" appears on the top of the Finder window. My girlfriend, who also uses the computer, says she deleted some files and then the question mark appeared. But now, there is another one.
How can I know why it happened? and how can I solved take them away?
Thank you very much for your help.
Hi tetrazono;
I think you have posted your question in the wrong forum. You posted your question in the OS 9 forum but your Mac Book is not capable of running OS 9. You really should find out what operating system you are running and post there.

Why do I have question marks in the finder window header?
Ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Lion I've noticed a large question mark in the finder window header. There is a smaller one beneath it, and they're both located just to the left of the search window.
Can you do a screenshot please?
Also may just grag and drop them outside the finder window. -
Why is there a question mark in the Finder window?
Why is there a question mark in the finder window that looks like this. When I click the question mark in displays this message.
Because the item there has been moved from its original location or deleted (there's none in that location by default), or something made the Finder think there was an item there. In either case, the question mark can be removed by control-clicking it and choosing Remove Item, or by command-clicking it and dragging it out of the window.

Question mark in a finder window
Hi there,
recently, I noticed a weird question mark on any finder window I open:
any idea what it is? someone?
Thanks a lot!!It's a shortcut that you no longer have the original for - maybe a file you deleted or moved. Usually, it's nothing to worry about. You can remove the shortcut by holding down the command key and dragging it off the window.

Hi
I am wondering How to fix the " flashing question mark after the finder icon when starting up" without an apple keyboard. I have 2 of those .7Ghz emacs so just wanna fix them
ThxHi,
>I am using a wireless standard keyboard so maybe the emac doesn't regognise it
Installation of driver software may be required. Do not expect any wireless device to automatically work with a Mac unless guaranteed to do so. In a case like this, use a wired USB keyboard (a PC keyboard should be OK) and a wired mouse to begin with.
>I have installed Ubuntu 13.00 on the HDD from another computer.
Is it a version for PowerPC?

My finder windows now have a question mark next to Action icon. I cannot flip between previous and next window.
The question is an orphaned alias, command-drag it off and "poof" it.
Then right click on Finder toolbar and choose "Customize toolbar" and drag the "Back" button onto it. -
Why is there a Question Mark in my Finder Window?
This question mark has recently appeared in my finder windows on my 21" iMac (2010), any ideas why?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dtsdesigns/6311994946/If you performed an upgrade from an earlier version (such as 10.6.8) there might have been an item that you added to your Finder Window but cannot be found now to reinstate as part of the Finder Window. It such a case a Question Mark Icon appears as a place holder for the missing (or unfound) item.

Question Mark appears in finder
When open to finder and going through any folder a gray question mark appears between the gear looking icon and the search bar. When the question mark is clicked a window pops up stating "The item can not be found" however all my files and everything are all there however. No matter what is selected the question mark still appears
Hi,
you must have had a shortcut in the Toolbar, and the link has been broken - you can safely remove it without harming your system.
To do this, right-click (ctrl-click) on the Finder Toolbar, and choose "Customise Toolbar" You can then drag the "Question Mark" out, with your mouse, and it should disappear in a puff of smoke.

Unknown question mark symbol on Finder Window
Hi All,
I have noticed an awkward question mark symbol (?) on all of my Finder windows.
I don't understand what it means or how to remove it.
A snapshot of the problem is shown below :
Please note the grey "Question Mark - ?" on the top of the Finder window.
Any ideas on how to remove the mark ?
If the (? symbol) is clicked a dialog box appears saying "The item can't be found".Yes. I overlooked this matter.
I was actually able to remove the symbol by (Command + drag out).
The symbol is gone !
Thanks for the helpful tip. -
Hello - I inadvertently slid a Skype icon to my finder window top border and when I deleted Skype from system the icon began appearing as a question mark (?) ... how do I delete the question mark from my finder window top border?

Question mark at top of Finder window
I have just upgraded a friend's iMac to Tiger and in any Finder window there's a question mark just to the left of the search box. When I click on it, the message is 'The item cannot be found'. I've never seen this on any other machine running Tiger and wonder what its function is ...?
Thanks.Hi, G. F-L.
Dragging the icons of files, folders, disks, or server volumes to the Finder toolbar creates an alias to the object. If that object (file or folder) is deleted, or if the associated disk or server volume is no longer mounted, then the related alias in the Finder toolbar displays a question mark.
The same holds true for icons in the Dock.
In addition to the Command-drag gesture Rod suggested, one can simply Control-click icon bearing the question mark in the Finder toolbar and select "Remove Item" from the resulting contextual menu. The icon bearing the question mark will then be removed from the Finder toolbar.
Good luck!

Question mark and finder folder
My Friend gave me his Old Imac G5 and when i boot it a question mark and the finder folder blinks
my friend says to install OS X because its running on nothing and I have been trying to install
OS X 10.6 but it wont respond to the Disk it just keeps blinking after a while it starts making this
loud noise as if its running something, the furthest ive got it to a blue screen with a replay icon button
towards the left and an arrow button pointing right but cant do anything after that, i dont know what to do.
My other problem is the i have the latest wireless keyboard and wireless magic mouse so i cant connect
them thru wifi until i have my imac running so im using a normal Dell Keyboard....were would be the place to find the original system install CD.
Ideally, your friend:
My Friend gave me his Old Imac G5
The Apple Store may have original system install discs but I would be surprised since no Apple Store in the US that I know of sells them any longer.
It will not be free, but if they have one that would be the best option. Otherwise you will have to peruse the used market. In the US that could be Amazon Marketplace or eBay. I do not know where you would start in India, but many eBay sellers ship worldwide.
Make absolutely certain you are getting a full retail installation CD and if it is Leopard or Tiger, make sure it is for your G5 and not an Intel iMac. System specific disks are grey in color and will not work except for the exact system with which they were included. -
2008 imac - beachball lock ups and no-boot 'question mark in file' issue
Firstly apologies am new to this forum.. am happy imac user (2008) but recently my imac is freezing in use and/or failing to boot on startup; the grey screen showing for a bit and then a file with a question mark in it. This now happens frequently and I find my self having to wait hours before my mac will boot. I have looked through forum responses and tried disk repair utility, but that showed no problems other than repairing a few permissions - also downloaded and run EtreCheck - but again nothing obvious, although I'll readily concede I don't really know what I looking for. Before I sadly head off on a long journey to a Genius Bar appointment maybe for a new hard drive?? Can anyone suggest anything please - all advice welcome. Thank you
