Question Marks everywhere!

I just loaded in the CD for my Live! Cam Chat (i think there i s a Vista in there somewhere). it says it works for window's XP as well, which is what I have. Most of the menu's in the creative cam window (where i can see myself) are all question marks everywhere. What looks like a sign in window is also all ?.
I have everything is says it needs to operate, i checked english as my language during install.....i loaded everything the way it said to. Even the properties menu is all ?. Any idea's? Thanks!

I notice when I open i-Tunes 10.1.1 or the App Store most everywhere there are supposed to be graphics or pictures there is just a box with a question mark inside?

If this doesn't work, it is likely that your HDD has failed, or is failing.

Question Marks

In case it helps anyone, I had question marks on all of the applications everywhere! Lauchpad and in the dock. This was only on one login, mine was fine but this was on my partners login.
In Finder (as the only thing I had was finder) it said I didn't have permission to see the APPs so I airdropped Settings and changed the permission in Settings to Admin on this 'bad' side and rebooted. I had done this on my 'good' side but it hadn't worked.
Still question marks so I went into airdrop the Disk Utilities and first verified and repaired the Mac HD. Anything I could repair or verify i did.
Once I had done this I airdropped all the applications and so far, touch wood it has worked.
Hope it helped as I didn't find any solutions on the web at all, not that had everything as a question mark.
Yes I am very pleased that I worked this out..... hope it was the right thing to do.

The trouble is that the icons disappeared to ? only and when you went into applications the had a 'no entry' symbol so I couldn't drag them from applications as it kept saying I didn't have permission and even when I gave that user Admin rights I still couldn;t see them hence airdropping from another computer.

Question Mark instead of video - Frustrated

Hi All
I hope someone can help fix this problem. I am having problems opening videos on the web with quicktime player 10.0(118) when trying to view them on Safari 10.6.6.
I can open the videos fine on Firefox but not on Safari. I have searched everywhere but there don't seem to be any fixes or notices out from Apple saying they are going to fix this problem yet thousands of people are having the same problem - a bit slack on Apples side I think.
Aside from Apple being a bit slack when it comes to fixing bugs - does anyone have a fix for this one.

The icons in the dock are basically shortcuts to the applications themselves.
Can you still open VLC through Spotlight or the Applications folder?
If so, delete the question mark from the dock by dragging it up off the dock and letting it go "poof." Then open VLC, right-click on its icon in the dock, and choose Keep in Dock.

IPhoto icon changed to a question mark in my launch pad...

Hi All,
I used to have an iPhoto icon in my launch pad in order to pull up my pictures/movies. Where I used to have the "regular" iPhoto icon, I now have a question mark and when I click on it, nothing happens. I tried to use finder to find my iPhoto library, but nothing came up. Any advice? Thanks, LN

It is incredible that your iPhoto application should have vanished completely. Try one more search with the Finder and ensore that it really searches everywhere:
Select "Computer" in the Finder's sidebar, or the system drive, if you only have one drive.
Enter iPhoto in the search field and press "+" to add a rule "kind is Application",
Can you post a screenshot please, of what you see in yur "Pictures" folder? Also select one of the thumbnails of your photos and use the command "File > Get info". What information can you see about your files?

Check marks and question marks all over my icons

Hello!
Sometime in the last few days I've noticed that a bunch of the icons in my Finder have strange little question marks and check marks on them. I first noticed a check mark on the icon for the hard drive, but when I looked closer they turned out to be everywhere! here's a screen shot of what they look like:

What on earth are they about?! Any ideas? They kind of bug me, to be honest.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Cant get rid of question marks

Well. Im stuffed ... my clients ( but not all of em) are reading question marks in my emails everywhere. What is going on ? Help please .. Text encoding is set on automatic. Ive read other similar complaints but then just blame outlook on windows . I am not willing to write in plain text.. surely there must be a reason why this happens.. can anyone help..many thanks

Does this recent happenstance regarding QT have anything to do with the newest update? Since updating, my QT is really messing around. Everywhere I go, those question marks stop me. Do I uninstall/reinstall?

Regarding your above comments, please be specific & give details of exactly what types of problems/issues you are having with Quicktime.
Also, in order for the knowledgeable users to help you they will need to know all the troubleshooting solutions you have tried to avoid the "been there, done that" senerios.

You need to use the computer's install disks to repair the hard drive or install a new OS.

Smiley face with a ? means a bootable system is not found.
There maybe a problem with either system software or hard drive itself.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

PDF Preview for a PO template with polish characters shows question marks

When I view the PDF using application I see the polish characters(Boilerplate text) as question marks. But when I view it through XML Publisher Dsktop version 5.5.0 it is fine I have download the new version of adobe 7.08 and I can see the polish characters but the preview in XML publisher in the application stll shows "?"

No I havent configured any fonts on desktop/application .. when I view Document properties on the PDF which works the XML Publisher version 5.5.0 and that of the application is 5.6.0.
In the fonts tab on the desktop version there is one additional one listed fromt he application one - AlbanyWTJ(Embedded Subset)

My MacBook has question marks on all folders and won't run ANY program. Help!

A week ago I was editing some photographs in Photoshop CS 5 extended. My computer has been running slow for a while so I thought that I would finish these files and then clear it of some photos since I know I've recently uploaded several gbs onto it.
The next day it was frozen. I had to shut it down and restart. It came on and now every folder has a question mark on it and none of the programs will open. They just bounce up and down and then the menu bar says Application not responding.
I have no idea what I need to do. I was going to update to Lion but I'm unsure if that's what I should do or if it needs some TLC from the apple store.

A professional will image your drive and attempt a bit by bit file recovery method directly from the drive itself.
You see when you delete something, it's not quite erased yet, but the space the file took is available to be overwritten, so it's only a matter of time before that occurs and the file is really gone.
So they will recover what they can, and then restore your machine and it's software and return the recovered files.
The TimeMachine is certainly going to assist, good thing you got it.
The trick is to hire someone and quit using the computer until they rescue you, show you in person how to rescue yourself .
