Question-No level in mono mode

I am no longer able to get a level in mono 1 mode, like I had been. Stereo is okay but no mono. My interface (Tascam US-144) is properly set up. What can I do?

If you are getting a stereo signal (both left and right) from two inputs on your interface then everything is working properly. Choose the other input channel for mono input.

  • Can the nano be set to playback in mono mode

My wife is deaf in one ear and there for cannot hear in stereo mode. Can the Nano be set to playback in mono mode. I have tried to modify a set of earphones for her, but the results are less than desirable.
    Thanks

I'm deaf in one ear too, and what I did was create the files in mono. I use the 320AAC format, which in mono, shows up as 160AAC and saves 1/2 the space on the hard drive or memory chip. SInce you already have stereo files, it's a simple matter to convert them all to mono, using iTunes. Go to the preferences and set the ripping to a mono-type format, choose all the songs in the library, and then convert them all. It might take hours for a large library, but it works fine.
I tried converter plugs but they were bulky and there's no simple way to solder the wires together in the tiny leads that go to the headphones that I use, so making mono files was my best option.

  • Question regarding NAT and directed-mode

    Hello,
I have two WAE 574 devices and a CM 274 all running code level 4.3.1.6, The CM is behind a PIX firewall. There is no firewall between the branch and core WAE. The branch device is behind a NAT router. The CM and SSL ASA rea behind a PIX 515 firewall. The branch WAE is running inline mode and the core WAE is using WCCP redirection. Both the CM and SSL ASA are reverse NATted on the PIX firewall. The branch WAE has the primary interface unchecked on the CM and is using the NAT address.
I am getting asymmetric route issues. This is because for some reason the NAT address of the branch WAE sends the SYN which is responded to but the ACK is coming from the unnatted private address. When I turn off directed mode I can see optimisation start for some sessions but not for the SSL
    ASA.
    Example
    Branch WAE Private 192.68.1.45
    Branch WAE Public 206.99.88.10
    CM private 192.168.20.9
    CM public 240.10.10.20
    PIX log
an 15 2012 11:50:58: %PIX-6-106015: Deny TCP (no connection) from 192.68.1.45/46871 to 240.10.10.20/443 flags PSH ACK on interfe
Although the PIX NATs the CM address, the core WAE is still still seeing it's private address.
Do you have any idea what could be causing this ?
    Best regards

    Hi Stephen,
To troubleshoot this further, we would need to get a topology diagram of your network, as well as the configurations from all devices, so it would probably be better if you open a TAC service request.

  • HD video newbie question related to camera shooting mode

    Hi everyone
I apologize in advance as this has been covered (sort of) but I cannot definitively answer my question reading other posts so perhaps your answers will clarify this for myself and future interested parties.
I am ready to purchase a Canon HF S100 VIXIA camcorder after looking at a lot of reviews.
I have iMovie9 and will be using this exclusively (I hope?)
I am aware that if I edit anything or add transitions or image stabilization the video will be downgraded to SD, this is not related to my topic.
    Questions follow
The camera supports 24p Cinema mode and 30p mode. Both of these shoot at 24 or 30 frames per second in HD using 60i which I presume means that each progressive frame is encoded in two sequential interlaced frames which must be combined (or something like that). I would like to use this mode as it has much better low light performance and I have a lot of indoor use, BUT---
Will iMovie9 support this and display the video as a HD progressive scan frame or will it discard this information and keep it as 60i or fail or something else?
    Thanks for your help.

    Lionden wrote:
.. 1080/60i - recordings made with the PF24, PF30 frame rate are converted and recorded on the memory as 60i
afaik, most (all?) consumer camcorders, claiming '24p' (or Cinema or...), scale on export (or record) to 60i ..
for me, this '24p' is mostly marketing... 24fps is a historic 'standard' for film/celluloid. in times, when displays claim 200fps, .. why 24? why not simple 29.97/30p (or here: 25)...?

  • Question Isolation level on performance

If I have a question for report, and this report is not really realtime necessary(for example, munites delay is fine). in order to improve performance for report, allow query to get dirty data even there is a transaction lock on on table. So if change isolation level from 3 to 1 or 0, any big performace gain?

Not sure what the functionality of the report is but you may also look at using the "readpast" query hint which allows skipping rows which on which incompatible locks are being held.
Dirty read should be carefully evaluated/explained with the users of report since sometimes they will approve dirty read for performance benefit but won't really understand the implication. Just from my book of experience.

  • IP question: Aggregation Level picture icon color?

We are pretty new on IP (Integrated Planning).  You know that the picture icon of Aggregation Level look like a two step stair.  When we check our BI 7.0 system, find for some aggregation levels, both the steps are white color, while for others, the top step is white color and the bottom step is blue color which looks like a small cube shape.  What are the difference?  The one with bottom step being the blue color means this aggregation level is activated and the one with both steps being white colors means they are inactivated?
Another question, as what we know, in order to do planning, the Cube must be real-time cube other than standard InfoCube in the setting of the cube, right?  In our system, we find the aggregation is built on a Multi-Provider and underlying the Multi-Provider, there are about 6 cubes.  But when we check all the 6 cubes, find the settings for these cubes are all set to Standard InfoCube.  That means with the aggregation level built upon this multi-provider, users can't do any planning, right?
We will give you reward points!

    Hi Kevin,
You can build a simple aggregation Level on a real time cube.
Aslo we can build AGgregation levels on Multi providers ( which must contain atleast one real time Cube) . These kind of aggregation levels are called as Complex Aggregation levels.
Also regd the Aggregation level Colours , your understanding is right.

    Hope this clarifies.

  • Question about TC setup, bridge mode and security...

    Hello All
    I need some help...
Have bought a 1 Tb TC to use with my existing ethernet/wireless all-Mac home network but have some specific queries.
The system is set-up as follows:
Cable modem > connected by ethernet cable to > 8-way Ethernet switch
Connected via ethernet cable to the 8-way switch are: one MacBook (in another part of the house) and the TC (via its WAN socket).
Elsewhere in the house, and _all connected wirelessly_ are:
    iMac G5
    Powerbook G4
hi-fi (connected via an Airport Express)
Airport Extreme basestation to which a HP Laserjet is connected via ethernet.
    Question:
Before buying the TC, I used a spare Airport Express basestation in its place to act as the 'main' basestation and the IP addresses of each device on the network were 10.0.0.1, 2, 3, etc. I had the impression that my home network was not "seen" by the outside world as a consequence of this.
Now, the TC seems only to work when in 'bridge' mode and it seems that the IP addresses are 196.xxx.x.100, 101, 102 etc. Does this mean that these devices are now visible to the outside world. Have I compromised my network security? I am worried that the outside world may have access to the contents of my TC, although my TC is password protected and the wireless network is 'closed'. What else should I be doing?
Finally, should I have set up the network so that the cable modem feeds to TC directly, with the 8-way ethernet switch coming off one of the ethernet sockets on the TC?
In all honestly, the instructions in the manual and the help guide are less than clear.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Daniel

Section 4, here are my thoughts.
    1. Since you are currently seeing individual IP addresses like 196.xxx.xxx.100, etc., it sounds like your modem is also acting as a router. This also seems to be the case since the Time Capsule is only working in bridged mode (it wouldn't work in Share a Public IP address if another device is assigning private DHCP addresses). Now, you could still allow the Time Capsule to act as a DHCP server on your private network by enabling Connection Sharing as Distribute a range of IP addresses. This will create a private network within your private network where all the devices that are connected to your Time Capsule can see each other. If you leave it in bridged mode then you allow your cable modem to assign DHCP addresses and all devices that are connected to the Time Capsule or to your ethernet switch are on the same network.
    2. Assuming your cable modem is acting as a router you shouldn't have to worry about security, although you will have to access your modem's settings to make sure port forwarding isn't enabled and that the firewall is turned on (although I'm sure it is). I personally would plug the ethernet switch into the LAN port of the Time Capsule and allow the WAN port of the Time Capsule to be plugged into the cable modem. I also would just leave the Time Capsule in bridged mode as well, that's what I do for my own personal network.

  • Question about stereo vs. mono tracks. (Very basic, but appreciate help)

I’m still a little confused about Stereo Vs. Mono tracks when recording in Logic. (This might sound stupid, but I’m still getting confused by this stuff.)
When first recording a track, do you guys usually do it in mono or stereo?
Secondly, I’m still confused about the benefits or stereo tracks. Why not just record mono and then pan a track left or right when mixing? I’m just not getting the concept of stereo recording. I know these are very basic questions, but I’ve read numerous books and I’m still a little in the dark on this. Thanks for the help!

Most of the things I record are done on mono tracks. Each piece of a kit goes to its own channel, then I pan things accordingly later (Overhead L & R, etc.).
You only need to record in stereo if you actually have a source that is stereo, i.e. a keyboard with stereo fx and L&R outputs, but even then I usually just set up two mono tracks, one for L and one for R. I would do a similar thing if I was using a stereo pair to mic something.
You can always make a mono track stereo later as well using a variety of plug-ins.

Also what kind of donation are we talking about? like a couple of euro's?
If possible i would like to know how to do also for future bios release (so i can do it myself for my own laptop if it aint TO hard that is)

    Hello,

  • Can I change BDB's locking level (SQL api mode)?

Can I change BDB locking level ?
if so , how to change it ?
I am testing SQLite vs BDB with --enable-sql_compat (configure option)
I want to change it to Data base level , ( like SQLite )
    Edited by: 861245 on 2011. 6. 23 오후 6:54

    Hello,
If I understand your question you want to change Berkeley DB to
implement locking at a database level like SQLite. Please see
    the "Locking granularity" documentation at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/lock_page.html
With the exception of the Queue access method the Berkeley DB
access methods do page-level locking. The Queue access method
    performs record-level locking.
    Thank you,

  • Questions on use of freeze mode in Logic Pro

    Hi,
I've noticed that the soft synth plug-ins are eating some of the CPU processing power. The bar is about a third of the way. I have frozen a few tracks but there are a few that don't seem to have the freeze icon in sight.
I configured the track header by right clicking a track and selected freeze. Only a handful of tracks offer me the option to freeze them. Is there a shortcut of freezing tracks individually? Also, besides bussing groups of instruments to an effects plug-in, what other solutions can I undertake within the production to save up on cpu?
The majority of the tracks are automated with only one delay designer on a snare and synth keys. The drumkit will be bussed to a multipressor.
    Cheers

Instruments in Multi output mode can't be frozen, so that's probably what you're experiencing. Once you're finished with composing you can render/bounce CPU hungry Instruments, re-import the bounced files and play them back as normal Audio files, which will certainly free up a lot of CPU.

Wow. Apple really screwed up the program this time. Here's some of my new problems.
    1. PDF's no longer cycle through the pages in the viewer window. You can't skim the pages, find the one you need, and drop it in. I do a lot of training videos using PDFs to show pages of manuals and whatnot. This makes my edits a real PITA
    Video of error: http://youtu.be/tpAQC2wUmEg
    2. 24p footage strobes in the viewer, in the scopes, and while editing the footage. Timeline set to 24p.
    Video of error: http://youtu.be/IfdxthOF0Z8
    3. Can't import C300 footage anymore. This is a screenshot of my import window when looking at a C300 card. I have the latest Canon drivers and utilities installed on my system
The combination of these three issues has made it almost impossible to use this program anymore. It can no longer do what I need it to do.
Does anyone have any ideas - besides moving over to PremierPro, which I have just purchased as of this morning?
    Then Tom Wolsky replied:

Re: New problems with 10.1.3 - 24p footage strobing, among others...  in response to frustratedbutopen
What did you upgrade from? What are your system specs?
I'm not seeing the strobe in the 23.98 media. Maybe YouTube is suppressing it.
Only seen C300 media once but that doesn't look like a complete folder structure.
I'm sure you'll be happy with Premiere.

Tom - in answer to your questions,
The strobing is there when I watch the video on youtube. I can post a higher rez clip, but its apparent on the scope.
    1. I upgraded from 10.2.1. MacPro 3.5 6-core Xeon E5, 32 GB 1867 DDR3 (Mavericks, obviously)
    2. That's the card - taken directly from the C300 and stuck into the card-reader. Footage opens just fine in PPro
    3. "Sure you'll be happy with Premiere" C'mon man. What kind of boneheaded reply is that? That's a typical apple egghead "pi$s off". It would be great if assistance could be offered without the snobbery, but thanks for living up to the stereotype. I have invested in X from the get-go. I've had X installed since it came out and I made the commitment to learn it and use it as the edit-backbone of my projects. I dumped 5 figures into 3 MPro trashcans - all running x - because I believed enough in this product to do so. You're doing Apple a disservice by being so dismissive and smug.
I mentioned that I bought PPro because as of this latest update, X is creating enough trouble in my workflow to where it is costing me time and time is money. Look at the issues with 10.1.3 that are being posted just in this forum. If you can't see that there may actually be some issues with the software, then maybe you need to loosen your beret a bit.

  • Question about Level Meter Plug in

I know how to change the channel meter between pre/post fader metering is there a way to do this with Logic's Level Meter plug in and with Inspector?

Plugins are always pre-fader, as the audio path hits the plugins and then goes into the fader.
What you'd have to do is route your audio through a fader (eg aux channel) to control the level, and then leave the fader on your output set to 0dB and meter in your plugins on that.

  • Help / Question - Must run in bridge mode?

Just bought and installed an airport extreme. I am using a Westell DSL modem to connect to verizon. The Airport Extreme will only install (and work) in bridge mode. It reports 2 NATs, i.e., the modem is assigning IP addresses. I cannot seem to get the modem and AE switched around so the AE assigns addresses.
Is this a problem? Is it okay to run the AE in bridge mode with the modem assigning the dynamic addresses?
    Thanks

    VaMichael, welcome to the discussions!
It is probably necessary to run the Extreme in bridge mode if your Westell is a modem/router handling DHCP and NAT functions.
If you want the Extreme to handle the DHCP and NAT functions, you would need to reconfigure the Westell into bridge mode. Check your documentation on the Westell as most modems can be configured using something like a 192.168.1.254 address entered into your browser.
