Question of the day: Best Portal integration strategy for CRM 7.0?

I would appreciate it if anyone can give me their feedback with the knowledge and background with the Portaland CRM WebUI integration based on the following options:
These are the available options for portal integration:
Option A: Initial Login to CRM WebUI, launch other functionalities from WebUI
     All users login through SAP CRM WebUI. Based on user portal roles, available applications are presented using WebUI transaction launcher to open up as new browser windows or within the content area of CRM WebUI
Option B: Initial Login to Portal, CRM and other applications launched from Portal
     CRM WebUI is setup as a full screen BSP iView. All users login once through SAP NW Portal. Based on user portal roles, available applications are presented. CRM, BI BOBJ, KM are launched in a separate browser windows. For SAP applications, there is SSO available.
Option C: Initial Login to Portal, CRM and other applications integrated into Portal
     All users login once through SAP NW Portal. CRM WebUI is integrated into the Portal content area, and navigation between CRM screens are handled through Portal links.
Business considerations:
1.  Single-Sign-On (SSO): The proposed solution should provide an integrated sign on page that allows access to other CRM applications without the user logging in again.
2.  Frontend navigation: All CRM applications used by business should be accessible from a single location. This should cater for future applications as well eg: AFLS. Ideally there should be a minimum number of windows that a user has to juggle.
3.  Contextual usability: The related applications should be linked to CRM and launched where it is used to support business operations. If possible, the applications should launch with the particular CRM transaction/record to minimize time required to locate relevant information eg: integrated reporting
4.  Standardized look and feel: The portal should not change the functionalities of standard CRM and should integrate well in terms of the look and feel of the product and NOL branding
Based on the following business considerations, would Option B a better solution in terms of integration with other CRM applications, integration with other SAP applications (BOBJ, KM), flexibility in integrating with other options, SSO, maintainability and scalabilit.
Thanks a lot,
Cecilia

We did option B at our client for CRM 2007. The authetication works perfectly between SAP NW Portal, and SAP CRM. It was one day work with single BSP iView (I beleive).

  • Xcelsius Portal Integration kit for Sharepoint not showing in the gallary

    Hi Experts,
    I am testing the Xcelsius in my organization. After creating a dashboard , I am trying to integrate it in my Sharepoint portal.
    For that I installed SP webpart container in the server. During installation it was not showing any wizard to me for selecting the options. After installation , i am trying to configure it in the webpart galary but ! couln't find the Xcelsius Webpart container in that list.
    What to do to show it ? Could anyone guide me ?
    Regards,
    Jyothi

    i'm not sure how it works with Sharepoint... however, i can tell you how we use the portal integration kit within WebSphere Portal.
    first, the PIK itself is only used for BO integration, not Xcelsius integration (unless you are doing SSO in which case the BO login module is required).
    the Xcelsius integration comes from creating the web parts on the client. For example, for WebSphere there is a tool that is loaded onto the client machine called "XcelsiusPortletCreationUtility". the purpose of this utility is to take a swf file and wrap it in a war file that can be deployed to the portal. i would assume that  Sharepoint works in a similar way with a client utility.
    also, within the Xcelsius file you must create a portal data connection, even if it's not actually used.
    please look through your Xcelsius documentation or try to find the specific document that explains Sharepoint integration.

  • Question of the day: Mac Storage on Windows environment.

    Hi there
    I have Windows environment (10 Servers & 100 Clients), and small Mac environment (10 Macs Clients without Mac Server) I have problem when Mac users put data on Windows Servers, so IT department decided to find a Mac Storage has the following features:
    1-Can format it as HFS+.
    2-Can Windows users access it.
    3-Can manage it from Windows Server.
    4-Can attach it to Tape Driver for backup or has any other backup solution.
    5-Has RIAD System.
    I know there are many administrators did this scenario (integration Mac Storage with Windows) so please any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

    Please elaborate on exactly what you mean by "connect to tape driver"
    Of course you can use a tape drive with an Xserve. Most drives will require that you add a SCSI card to your Xserve, and for that the single best choice (compatibility and support from the company which is excellent) is Atto ( www.attotech.com ) although Apple sells their own card.
    I believe it's a rebranded LSI - see http://preview.tinyurl.com/6bw4w5
    At one time the Exabyte firewire-based tape drives were a decent option but their firewire (aka IEEE 1394) interface has proven problematic in terms of being less than robust when attached to an Intel Mac.
    If not SCSI then definitely look at native Fibre based tape drives - but that's getting into higher price-bracket. Eg. http://store.apple.com/ussmb78313/search?find=Fibre+Tapew

  • Trivial Question of the Day: Default windows preferences

    Hi,
    When I open a new document in Text Edit, the window is quite small, so I have to resize it all the time, even re-opening one that I set up. I've noticed it with other stuff like Finder folders, for instance.
    Is there a preference that sets these windows to full page? Again, this is not like saying my computer shows a question mark when I turn it on, but it's something I'd like to know. I asked this a while ago, but didn't get many substantial answers.
    Thanks as always,
    Allan (the Allan with no points!)

    Allan,
    Describing/predicting which size finder window you will see is not clear/obvious because the size you will observe depends upon which finder window was first to be opened and where/how it was opened. (What a mouthful that was)
    Whenever I use the (+N) command the (my default Desktop) window opens in the size that I expect. Any subsequent folder opened from the Sidebar opens in the same sized (my default Desktop) window.
    Any folder which is opened from the resulting (my default Desktop) window remembers the size that I have chosen for that window.
    Opening a folder from the Dock results in a window of the size that I have previously chosen as the default for that specific window.
    Clear as Mud?
    Maybe someone can expound on my feeble attempt to explain the un-obvious.
    ;~)

    Is Java Portal Integration Kits avaible for Crystal Reports 10 ?

  • Stupid Question of the Day: What is the name of your kernel library?

    <Standard intro>
    As information, I have been away from SAP and basis for about four years. Due to personnel changes, I'm now returning to it. During the interim, we upgraded from version 4.0B to "SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X110" (according to the system information on SMP). We have some out-dated kernel issues and I am trying to work through them as best and as quickly as I can.
    </Standard intro>
    We have several different kernel libraries on our system.  I'd like to know which ones I can delete so that I can prepare to upgrade from 6.20 to 6.40 (yeah, we are that far behind).
    So, my question is:
    For a particular instance, how do you tell which kernel library is currently applied?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

    We have some errors occurring during our startup process.
    I should mention that this system started out as an IBM RRR (Ready to Run) system many years ago.  The RRR library still exists and is still used in some places and I am still trying to get all of the hooks out so that I can delete it completely.
    In the meantime, if anyone from SAP is monitoring this forum, I would appreciate the source code for the R3INLPGM--pseudo code is fine if you don't want to release the real thing.  I just need to know what it is doing because something is not right.
    Thanks!

  • Question of the day: In which Thread context does the main method run ?

    let's say, you create a JFrame in the main method:
    public static void main(String[] args)
    new MyJFrame();
    let's suppose, you construct the whole JFrame
    inside the constructor, which contains a lot
    of other Swing components, like JTree's and more.
    AND the JFrame calls setVisible(true) in its
    constructor.
    -> According to my knowledge, this won't work
    properly - it will function, BUT you will get one
    or two quite big exceptions (which usually start
    with a nullpointer exception, produced by the
    PLAF, but the whole stacktrace shows, that the
    the exception was thrown AND catched inside
    the Swing objects.
    Reason for this would be, that all operations
    after the "setVisible(true)" statement must be
    carried out in the eventdispatch thread, according
    to Swing rules.
    Now, as you can see by running the source below,
    the main() method always is processed in special thread,
    NOT the event dispatch thread - which produces the above behaviour.
    My Question:
    Wouldn't it have been easier to let the JVM
    process the main() methods right in the
    event dispatch thread ?
    Or:
    Why is the JVM designed to process the
    main() method in a special thread and not
    the Swing event dispatch thread ?
    opinions?
    Regards
    JPlaz / SnowRaver
    package Test1;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Frame1 extends JFrame
    public Frame1( final String title, int position )
    this.setSize(400,300);
    this.setLocation(position,position);
    this.setVisible(true);
    if( SwingUtilities.isEventDispatchThread() )
    System.out.println("Constructor of "+title+" is processed IN the event dispatch thread.");
    else
    System.out.println("Constructor of "+title+" is processed in ANOTHER than the event dispatch thread.");
    public static void main(String[] args)
    // First creation just from the startup thread context :
    new Frame1("first Frame", 60);
    // Now we let the second creation be done in the
    // eventdispatch thread context for sure :
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater( new Runnable()
    public void run()
    new Frame1("second Frame",120);

    Matt,
    it's been so long, I don't have the full answer in my head.

  • How to pass the context from Portal to Database for fine grain access?

    Hi,
    I am developing an omniportlet and I need to pass on the context of the logged in user to the database so that when the user tries to access data in the omniportlet, he can see data relevant to him only. Does anyone know how to do that?
    I have set up a light weight user scott and also has a schema in the database by the same name (scott)..
    what I am trying is when the user logs in as scott in the portal site and runs an omniportlet, he should be dynamically be logged in to scott the schema so that the data visible to him can be restricted. Same should happen for other users as well.
    Does anyone know in which table in the PORTAL schema is this connection information stored, so that I can override it using some API..?
    Thanks,
    Abhi

    I had tried sending the user_name in the sql and that works fine. but my requirement is that the user should login to his schema and only his schema directly and automatically.. such that even if an omniportlet is created using some default schema, when user logs in he can access only the schema meant for him..
    e.g. While running the omniportlet when logged-in as user scott, he should be logged-in to scott schema in the database, so that the fine grain access can be enabled ..

  • Question about kicker and best keying greenscreen techniques for removing small artifacts

    Hi,
    At the moment I'm doing some green screen shootings.
    The only problem I encounter is the fact that when I make a total shot from a actor the backlighting stand is visible between their legs.
    I have no possibility to hang the backlighting above the actors.
    What is the best technique to remove such small artifacts?!
    Thanks! David

    It sounds like a simple mask drawn around the stand will do the trick. A screenshot would help but from your description I'd just use the pen tool to draw around the offending object then set the mask mode to subtract. If the actors move you'll have to animate the mask position. The only critical part of the mask would be right next to the actors legs. You can leave lots of room around the object.

  • Best project sizing strategy for software tutorials when UI is 1024w or over?

    Hi,
    I've read many of the discussions on the forum related to project size, but am still wondering about this.
    I'm creating e-learning modules for software where the required minium resoultion is 1024x768 (but in practice most users have wider displays). In the past I would use a project size of around 965w (as RodWard suggests in his helpful blog post ) and then either downsize the images a little to fit, or do some panning in the project when necessary. I've also used zoom areas a little, but these add considerable labor for the benefit IMO.
    My quandary is, while I've always designed my Captivate projects to match the software UI size as closely as possible, I'm wondering if user expectations about this are changing. There are umpteen software 'how to' videos on Youtube and elsewhere set at around 640W (or smaller) and though the screen shots are inevitably blurry, I'm not hearing a lot of complaints. Since one of my goals is to extract the "screencast" portions of my tutorials and publish them as MP4 videos (for mobile delivery, right?) I am wondering if I should not just set my project size smaller and live with the blurry screens, using zoom areas in places where detail is absolutely essential.
    Thoughts, opinions and lively discussion welcome!
    Corbin

    Personally, I would never settle for blurry images of any tutorial I create.  If we're creating a tutorial for output to YouTube video, we now use the HD format size, 1280x720.  If there is any way you can use that, go for it.  Alternatively, go for YouTube XGA format at 1024x768.  Anything is better than 640.
    The only way I've seen tutorials work at 640 size is when making heavy use of Panning to follow the cursor around the screen.  However, I don't personally like this method because I find it disorienting.  It's like watching a screencast through a keyhole.
