Question on BOE XI 3.1 FP 2.7

Our BOE environment is currently configured with BOE XI 3.1 SP2 + FP 2.1. We are currently planning to update it with the latest Fix Pack 2.7 to fix one of the issue which is taken care of in this fix pack. Have anyone experienced any side effects with this fix pack.
Also want to know what if we opt only to replace the dll which is modified for this ADAPT, instead of having the entier fix pack. Have anyone tried it before, does changing the dll with a newer version work atall?
Please let me know.

I am having issues with my Dynamic Cascading Parameters, built off of Business Views. They worked before installing FP 2.7, and now they do not.
I opened a message with SAP yesterday, but no news yet.
I've backed out (uninstalled) 2.7 from my server and development machine, but they still don't work. So, it could be an unrelated problem, but they definitely worked prior to installing 2.7.

  • Quick question on BOE deployment for SAP BW with 3 system landscape

Client has SAP BW environment with 3 system landscape: Dev, QA, Production
Should BOE be installed seperately on 3 different machines for each of them?
Or is there any best practice for this?
    Thanks,
    Henry

    Hello Henry,
yes - i would recommend this Setup. Technically there is no need for it but on an organisational/development/deployment level it makes more sence.
I often saw it at customers that Dev and Q&A is on virtual machines and Prod is on a physically machines. Saves some Hardware costs.

  • Change Preferred Viewing Locale by a paramter field in the report template

    Hello,
Is there a method that allows to change the Preferred Viewing Locale at the report template level?
Actually I have some templates for final clients in different countries, and these reports should be generated in Infoview.
    In order to generate reports in different languages, I inserted a parameter {?Language}
Then for caption/text I used a formula like this
    Select {?Language}
    Case "en_US": .....
    Case "de_CH": .....
    Case "it_IT": .....
    Case "nl_BE": .....
However this won't work for date axis in charts and number formats.
So I switched to Preferred Viewing Locale settings, which seemed to be exactly what I wanted cause everything can be changed according to the local settings, except that I need to change the setting every time by selecting View - Preferred Viewing Locale - German - (Germany)... for 20 different reports
And what's more important is that I cannot change this setting when I launch the template in Infoview. Change in Preferences will impact all the templates while I just need change on one template only.
I had a look on all the functions available and it seems that ContentLocale function can only display the current setting.
    Is there any solutions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wenzhao

Post your question to BOE Admin forums

  • Installing multiple copies of the SAME service on a BOX

This is a "Best Practice" question for BOE-XI (3.x).
I have dug through the 3.1 DEPLOYMENT training, Admin and Pattern documents, but none of them clearly discuss anything around installing multiple copies of the SAME service (eg. CMS, ReportJob) on the same physical server if it has more that 1 CPU.
The documents detail the "per CPU" limits of a service, but don't detail if we should install multiple services to take advantage of the multiple CPUs available on a specific Physical Server.
For example - the Crystal Report Job Server can support five (5) simultaneous report jobs per CPU by default.
If we have a 2 CPU machine, do we run one (1) CRJS service - but increase the "Maximum Jobs Allowed" setting to Ten (10), or do we install two (2) CRJS services each with a default limit of Five (5)...?
Does this rule apply to all services including the One (1) CPU for One-Hundred (100) simultaneous requests sizing-limit on the CMS..? That doesn't appear to be a setting we can control within the CMC.
Can you run more than one CMS service on a specific Physical Server...?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I personally have run 20 jobs per Crystal Job server and most were dual processor dual core.  I had over 1000 jobs a night, but not all at 1am...although most were within 2 hours of the same time.
I was able to get through them.  However, I had 4 Crystal Job servers.  Its all about your hardware being taxed.
I broke off my CMS away from the processing tier.  So I could have multiple Crystal Job servers.
We had 3 processing tier servers all doing Crystal Jobs and Webi jobs.  I had 60 running at one time for Crystal. 20 per job server.
i could have added the Crystal job servers to the same server, but the hardware was getting busy.
I would have at least 2 CMS's as they support 500 concurrent users (Sessions?) each.
This helped us - and we had over 8k reports in our repository.  We were getting bound by memory constraints.
Once you get to 64 bit OS and App, (BO XI 4.0 sometime in 2010) it will help with this problem.
The only other way in the 32 bit environment is to add servers, even VM's if you have to as long as they are different hosts, but that adds expensive BOE CPU licenses - the big caveat to that.
That's how we solved the problem...

  • BOE- General Implementation Questions

I recently joing a Medical Transportation Company which is currently using DB2 on AS400 and is in the process of moving to Mysql. The project that I'm incharge of is finding the right technology for web based report generation and making them accessible to end users to run their own reports on a day to day basis. Currently we have BOE on a very old computer with radom versions of Crystal software installed on 2-3 computers with out a report server.
I would appreciate if someone could suggest what I need in order for me to create a separate BOE server and what are the pre-req's in order to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to ask me questions if anything I asked is not clear
    Thanks
    Achett

What version of BOE do you have? Anyway, BOE comes with Web Intelligence which is an excellent web-based reporting tool. It is very easy to use and very easy to learn, as long as the back-end data-mart and the universes are set up correctly.
It depends on how many users the system is going to support, you should install it on a server. BusinessObjects is built for Windows first, and then extend to other Operating Systems later. Therefore, for optimizing performance and minimizing cost at the same time, you should use Windows Server. Windows servers are much cheaper to maintain than UNIX server, and Windows Admin are much cheaper in term of salary than UNIX Admin. So you do the math.
The installation is quite straight-forward. You should read the Getting Started and the Admin Guide documentation first before you proceed. If you are stuck, you can always contact Tech Support if you have purchased the support contract. Otherwise, feel free to drop by again for questions.
    Hope this helps.

  • BOE/BW landscape question

HAd a question about managing/configuring BOE in a BW environment.
We are planning to have many non-production systems in our BW landscape. (Dev, Dev+1, Product test, Performance Test, Training..etc).
If we are also including BOE in our environment (Webi, Infoview, etc), do we need a corresponding BOE environment for each BW environment?
We currenrly make all BW changes in our develpment environment and transport thru the landscape to all other environments. Wondering how that works for BO objects , what systems need to be set up, and what is best practice for this and managing changes through the landscape.
Seems that a separate BOE environment for every non-prod BW implies additional cost (hardware and licensing) and we are trying to determine the best scenario.
But also want to maitain the control of versions and changes through the landscape and ability to test them as they progress through.
    Thanks.

My recommendation is to have a 1-1 setup.
There are two kinds of connections between BO and SAP.
    1) Authentication connections
    2) Data connections.
Authentication connections allow your SAP users to use the credentials to log into the BO system. You can indeed create more than one authentication connections within a BOBJ system.
Data connections retrieve data from SAP sources into your BOBJ reports. A single report/dashboard (WebI,CR,XCelsius) can connect to several SAP data sources at once. But you cannot dynamically change the name of the system you are connecting to. At least not by applying generic BOBJ functionality.
SAP Business Objects offers the LifeCycle Manager to help you manage the life cycle of your projects in a multi-leveled environment.
Assuming you are using a single BOBJ installation for multiple SAP systems you have to make sure that the security is well defined in order to separate your development from your production environment. You will probably have to work with separate
folders to host your different environments. In this case you will not be able to use all capabilities of the LCM (like mapping of data connections).

  • BOE 3.1 - Mulitple Session Question

    Hi
Currently working with BOE 3.1 sp3 on Win 2008x64 and notice something weird with session.
    Question:
    1.  Can you create more than 1 session at a time.  For example, open 1 IE and connect to Infoview.  Open another IE, it will automatically connect to Infoview sharing the session.   Sign-off on 1 IE session, the other IE session is disconnect form Infoview.  Is this by design or is there a setting to keep both seperate.  I've both NAME user and CONCURRENT user but the effect is the same.
    -rs

The browser is sharing a cookie for the session, so logging off will clean out the cookie.  This has nothing to do with Named or Concurrent.
If you use 2 different browsers like IE + Firefox, then what you do in one will not affect what you do in the other, they will remain separate sessions.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 with Database / Universes (BOE 3.1 SP2) Questions

    Hello
I have a few questions related to options that i can use when i connect to a database like sql server or oracle and i cannot use these options when i connect the report from a universe.
    1) When building a Crystal report that connects to the database through a universe i cant change the option Optional Prompt from False to True this option is disabled. This does not happen when the report is constructed by connecting directly to the database, this functionality is useful when you have multiple parameters in one report.
    2) For cases of reports with multiple parameters (where you can choose more of a list available), under the scenario of the bd direct connection is possible to configure the Crystal Available Values list shows dimensions that have at least some value in Fact Table, through the choice of parameter settings, where you can indicate where you take the value and description separately.Under the scenario universe connection these options are disabled because they are based on the query of the universe, there is an alternative perhaps from the universe to achieve this behavior in Crystal?
    Thanks

  • BOE XI R2 upgrade question

    Hello everybody,
we have a license for BOE XI R2, what is the newest version we can update without purchasing an additional license?
Or more precisely can we upgrade to BOE 3.1 for free, or we can get only service packs for Release 2.
    Thanks,
    Arnas

you can get only service packs for XIR2. However in order to upgrade BOXI3.1 you need to purchase additional licenses unless until its not possible.

  • Question on hoe to delegate administration rights (BOE XI 3.1)

    Hi,
I'm working through the admin document from SAPs site for this product and see that I can delegate administration rights to a user or group. This is something I would find usefull in my company as we have geographically disparate offices and can't always do the work when it is first requested. The idea would be to set up an admin group in each of the offices and add a user to the group to manage things like new starters, group assignments and scheduling on behalf of someone else.
The admin guide is a little vague when it comes to this particular section as it explains what can be done but not how to do it. I have been testing this feature to see how easy it is to set up and I can't get it working.
Question: What rights do I need to configure to permit a user permissions to add a new user and against which object(s) should they be set?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I'm doing something like this.  For each department, I've created an Admin user group.  These user groups are sub-groups of the administrators group so they get the same rights as the Administrator.
I then go through other parts of the CMC and give these admin sub-groups view only access to things like servers and other areas of the CMC where I don't want them messing around.  They have full control over their department folders, department user groups, and users, but nothing else in the system.  It's a pain to set it up, but it's worth it in the long run.

  • Problem at installation FixPack 3.3 on BOE XI 3.1 SP3

    Hi Colleagues.
When I try to install FixPack 3.3 on BOE XI 3.1 SP3, I have a problem-progress of installation is stoped on 17% in phase "Running Post Install Actions".
You can see the last strings in setup's log file (BusinessObjects_FP_3_3.12.3.log):

I think installation process could't to stop SIA and therefore could't go to next phase of installation.
OS is HP-UX v.11. Also I have a installed BOE XI 3.1 SP3. User for BOE in UNIX is "boeadm".
I started installation by root. Maybe the problem in this?
Maybe I should was to start installation by user "boeadm"?
    Please help..
    thanks&regards,
    Yessen

Well to answer my own question it looks like you do need to run the repair as the same user that did the original install.
    /srv/sap/sap_bobj/ccm.sh -stop all 2>&1
Warning: This product was installed under username: sap-cr
    Current username is:
    Press Enter to continue...
After running as the correct user I get this:
    /srv/sap/sap_bobj/ccm.sh -stop all 2>&1
    Stopping all...

  • Performance degradation encountered while running BOE in clustered set up

    Problem Statement:
We have a clustered BOE set up in Production with 2 CMS servers (named boe01 and boe02) . Mantenix application (Standard J2EE application in a clustered set up) points to these BOE services hosted on virtual machines to generate reports. As soon as BOE services on both boe01 and boe02 are up and running , performance degradation is observed i.e (response times varies from 7sec to 30sec) .
The same set up works fine when BOE services on boe02 is turned off i.e only boe01 is up and running. No drastic variation is noticed.
BOE Details : SAP BusinessObjects environment XIR2 SP3 running on Windows 2003 Servers.(Virtual machines)
Possible Problem Areas as per our analysis
    1) Node 2 Virtual Machine Issue:
This currently being part of the Production infrastructure, any problem assessment testing is not possible.
    2) BOE Configuration Issue
Comparison  report to check the build between BOE 01 and BOE 02 - Support team has confirmed no major installation differences apart from a minor Operating System setting difference.Question being is there some configuration/setting that we are missing ?

Any assistance that you can provide would be great

    Rahul,
I have exactly the same problem running BO 3.1 SP3 in a 2 machine cluster on AIX.  Exact same full install on both machines.  When I take down one of the machines the performance is much better.
An example of the problem now is that when i run the command ./ccm.sh -display -username administrator -password xxx on the either box when they are both up and running, I sometimes receive a timeout error (over 15mins)
If I run SQLplus direct on the boxes to the CMS DB then the response is instant.  Tnspings of course shows no problems
When I bring down one of the machines and run the command ./ccm.sh -display again then this brings back results in less than a minute...
I am baffled as to the problem so was wondering if you found anything from your end
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Crystal Reports from SAP BW without BOE

I have read different documents and documentation about how you can use SAP BW objects with Crystal Reports.
One of that documents was "BusinessObjects Integration Kit for SAP - Crystal Reports 2008" from Ingo Hilgefort.
On Page 38 of that document, when saving the report, you have the option "Automatically Publish to Enterprise".
In the example it is not selected.
    According with that:
Can I assume that I can have Crystal Report Connected to SAP BW without using BOE?
Even If I do not use, do I have to install BOE?
If I have the version Crystal Reports Enterprise 2008, do I have to use or install BOE?
Clarification will be appreciated on this topic.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jaime

    Hi Ingo,
    Thanks for your answer.
May I extendend the question to Xcelsius?
If you have installed NetWeaver EHP1 and SP2 for Xcelsius, my understanding is that you will  a "Native access of SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius via BICS without BusinessObjects Enterprise Platform XI 3.1" (According with document "Update to NetWeaver EhP1 SAp Netweaver 7.01")
Do you still need BOE to share the solution (as per Crystal reports)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jaime

  • Schedule end date is not saved (BOE XI 3.1)

    Hi,
During testing of this product I have set up some schedules to test various report formats, destinations, etc. but have naturally not wanted to fill up my destinations with test reports and so have selected an end date to my schedules. By default the end date is todays date plus ten years, so i amend this with the date picker to later on today or tomorrow and save the schedule. When i view the schedule from the History window i can see that my end date has been ignored and the default date is still in place.
I have tested this a number of times with the default BOE XI 3.1 and am in the process of installing Fix Pack 1.2 to see if this makes any difference.
Question: Is this a known issue and is there a resolution relating to this problem?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Answer: It seems that applying the Fix Pack 1.2 resolves this issue.

  • Reversing a BOE payment document

    Hi,
I have a question on reversing a BOE payment made through F110. I have used FBRA and reset and reverse the payment document which has brought the vendor invoice back to open status and also cleared the BOE postiing,
But i found the below process suggested by SAP to reverse BOE payment.

Can anybody let me know if there is any problem using FBRA to reverse the BOE payment?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
FBRA posting is also ok in case it is putting back the amount as normal balance (and not in special GL balance) in the vendor account.
