New to CS4. What screen setting do I use to capture video and stills to have finished video fill the TV screen?

Dumb Question: is CS4 OS proprietary?

I purchased CS4 Web Design Premium and installed it on my laptop which runs Vista - works perfectly, Adobe rep said I can install on a 2nd computer, does this 2nd computer have to be Vista as well? I inserted install disc in 2nd computer (which runs Win XP) and the files do not even show up in explorer. Does the install disks only work for Vista OS?

It's my DVD drive - its shot, won't play any type of disk now and I had to use the wire tool to open it to get the CS4 disk out. - Time for a new one I guess.
But it still did not answer my original question; is CS4 compatable with Vista and XP from the same install disk? After purchasing a new DVD drive will I be able to install on a Windows XP OS if I purchased the disk(s) for a Vista OS?

Importing questions from CS4 to Captivate4

Note that I understand CS4 to mean Creative Suite 4 (which doesn't include Captivate).

Question about CS4 system requirements

Hi!
I'm very interested to upgrade from Illustrator CS3 to CS4.
New features are very interesting.
But I have a question, on web site the system requirements are:
Windows
2GHz or faster processor + 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
I have a notebook with:
mobile Intel® Centrino eith Intel® Pentium® M 740 - 1,73 GHz + 2GB of RAM
The problem is: before I buy it, Illustrator will works on my computer or not?

Most likely not. Centrinos are generally unsupported for a number of CS4 apps, and while Illustrator doesn't seem to use any specific functions that would make this a problem, you may find yourself unable to even install it properly. Of course you can alweays download the trial to find out...

Navigation question - DW CS4

I hope this is the right forum for my question. I have designed a webpage using DW CS4. It is a three column, fixed format with a header and footer. So far, I have only done the home page. The left sidebar has links to other websites or documents that open in a new window. That's all working fine.
The right sidebar has links to news stories, etc. that I want to open in the center column. Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to do this? I am fairly new to HTML and CSS. I have a slight understanding of PHP. It was suggested to me that I use WordPress but I would rather write some code in DW if possible.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Depending on the complexity and length of your content, have a look at the Spry Widgets that come with DW to show/hide DIVs or load external XML data or search for other JavaScript/ XML solutions on the web. Other than that I could only think of frames and iframes to get this, but neither are good page design. Indeed a blog software with sidebar and all would make this pretty easy, assuming you know your way around PHP a bit...

Question re CS4 Extended?

Can anyone help re the above program I have had on my PC.
Have today purchased a new PC with Windows7 Pro.
My CS4 is still on the old hard drive using Windows XP.
I have had that drive installed in the new PC as a slave, but now I am unable to open PSCS4. and realise if I delete it I may have problems reinstalling to the drive with Windows7.(I know you have to deactivate CS4 but how can I do that if I cannot open it.?

Thanks for the reply but perhaps I didn't explain to well.
I have been forced into this issue due to the fact that I destroyed part of the mother board by meddling with something I new little about.
So I no longer had anyway of opening CS4 to remove it correctly so that I could just go ahead and Download to the new hard drive.
As I understand it when I enter the serial number ther will be a query and I wont be able to install it.

Color Change Question, Photoshop CS4

Hope I'm clear with this description...
Say, you want to change a background in a given image from a certain blue to a certain yellow and then possibly back again....you're just curious as to which background would look better. Is there a command in Photoshop CS4 which, in effect, makes Photoshop "change color 'A' to color 'B' everywhere it appears in the image"? short of re-painting entire areas with a graphics tablet/mouse?

Technical question: Fw CS4 and SDK

Hi Firework friends and users,
I did some research online anywhere on Adobe site and still
not getting any info related to Fireworks CS4 SDK. I have not done
any specific idea and a project.. but not sure where to start and
how to create an extension or "plug-in" for Fireworks CS4 app. I am
not at my liberty to discuss about my idea or project, but I truly
believe that this solution be of an interest and benefit to
Fireworks community.
I would appreciate some heads up on guideline.

Questions about CS4

When you save as a CS2 or CS3 AI file then open that file in CS2 or CS3 and Save As, what is the default file format?
When CS3 saves a CS2 AI file, Save As from CS2 defaults to PDF.
What happens when you use negative values with picas in dialogue boxes?

Indeed. The perils of drawing conclusions from a single example and a quick read.
In appears the problem is that negative 0p(x) values cannot be entered into a field using that notation. Illustrator will happily show a negative 0p(x) value in a field if you "enter" it by moving an object a few points down or to the left, but to manually enter the value, you need to use points alone (i.e -6pt) or the awkward construction 0p0-0p(x). And of course the arrow keys then fail as well, unless you hold the shift key so you can skip over the 0p(x) values completely.

CS4 Bridge not interfacing with Photoshop.

I am evaluating the new Photoshop CS4 (it is purchased copy and not running on the 30 day trial) and have run into a problem in using Bridge CS4.
I am able to open an image using Photoshop's File Open command
BUT when I attempt to do so in Bridge
I get this error
the top line in the error box is:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop.exe
The below that line is this error:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate premissions to access the item.
I have full administrator access to the computer in question.

If CS4 is like CS3 and you are using Vista and and external drive you may have to start Bridge in Adminsitartive mode. Right click on Bridge Icon and choose "Run as Administrator". I know sounds silly as you may be only user, but it can work this way.

Is there any galleries that you can add audio??? In CS3 you could add audio but I do not see how to do in CS4.

MPEG or AVI in PPro CS4 - which is better to work with?

Back when I was using older versions of Premiere Pro, I was forcefully told by people here on the Adobe forums that I should avoid doing any editing work in MPEG format. The emphatically-worded advice was that I should do everything in AVI within Premiere, and export it as AVI, and then let Encore handling transcoding it into MPEG form when the time came for that.
There were several reasons for that. One was that several people told me that MPEG's lossy nature meant that the more you edited and re-saved a file, the more quality you lost each time. I was told that AVI avoided this problem. Another reason for it was that Premiere Pro's handling of the MPEG file format was extremely buggy - which is indeed a phenomenon I experienced firsthand. I struggled a LOT with how Premiere Pro handled MPEG files in those older versions.
Now that I'm asking questions about CS4, having just upgraded 3 weeks ago, I'm seeing a different trend in the comments people are making. Now, it seems, the advice is that it's better to do my work within MPEG. In a different thread, I was told that Premiere Pro can no longer format chapter markings for Encore as part of AVI files, but that functionality does exist now with MPEG. And other comments in other threads seemed to favor working in MPEG.
So, has that changed? Is MPEG now the "preferred" format to use for files when editing and exporting video footage? Isn't lossiness still an issue?

The key is to keep the footage in its source format and codec as long as possible, changing only when the final export is ready. If you need to convert your footage to another format and codec to edit it, then choose a lossless or near-lossless codec:
For AVI, uncompressed, Lagarith and UT are good choices. Uncompressed is huge and slow; Lagarith and UT are much faster and much smaller in file size.
For MOV, Animation and Photo-JPEG are good choices.
For MPEG2, I-frame only MPEG2 at high bit rates like 100 Mbps is a good choice.
If you are exporting to MPEG2 DVD, it really doesn't matter if you let Pr or En do the MPEG2 encoding; the encoder can be set identically in both applications. With the new Dynamic Link from Pr to En in CS4, it makes a lot of sense to send the sequence to En and then let En transcode it.

Photoshop CS4 does not recognize raw photos taken with newer cameras. Anyone else have this problem?

Photoshop CS4 will not recognize RAW2 photos taken with my new Panasonic Lumix FZ100 camera. This camera is listed in Adobe's 6.2 Camera Raw update for Photoshop CS5 but cannot be loaded in CS4. I paid a lot of money for CS4 and don't want to buy CS5 just because I bought a new camera, but it appears that Adobe no longer updates Camera Raw for CS4 or with newer cameras. When I called the Help Desk to find out if there was some kind of patch I could get to make CS4 compatible with my new camera a gentleman in New Delhi informed me that he couldn't even answer my question until I paid $40 since answering questions about CS4 was a "paid service." I hung up in a rage. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution?

Adobe does indeed not update obsolete versions of Camera Raw for new camera types.
And guess what: It’s the camera producers who seem to like to change their raws – so how about spreading some of your indignation their way?
I paid a lot of money for CS4 and don't want to buy CS5 just because I bought a new camera
The upgrade is cheaper than buying the full version.
Anyway, you could try the free DNG Converter which should be able to handle everything the most recent version of Camera Raw can handle.

Photoshop CS4, MAC, Spanish keyboard shortcut for brush size...

OK.
I work with an iMAC and a Mac Book Pro.
My CS4 is genuine English language software.
But having bought my computers here, in Spain, the keyboards are, naturally, the Spanish ones.
So....
I'd like to use the brush size short cuts, which in all English based PS tutorials, are the [ and ].
But when I try this, it doesn't work.
Any hints?

Thanks Christoph. I actually tried this with my iMAC yesterday but CS4 didn't seem to accept my "suggestions".
However, I tried it a few minutes before reading your post in my MAC Book Pro, and it worked!!!
Let's see what happens later when I try it again with my iMAC. It may be a question of CS4 being reluctant to accept certain keyboard strokes.. and not others. In the case of the shortcust for brush size modifications, in my MAC Book Pro, CS4 accepted the "." and the "," as the newly introduced shortcuts, and rejected others that I had "suggested"
... the mysteries of life....
I'll let you know what happened later.

Creative Suites CS4 and CS3

Maybe it is a dummy question about the nature of Creative Suite licensing
but.
I am working along with a team now, and everyone uses flash CS3, I "only" have flash CS4 (in a CS4 design premium).
It is very unconfortable to save in CS3 format every time, the flash CS4 has a built in system to make it very annoying and
uncomfortable, cannot "save and compact" in CS3 format, and after saving for CS3, the flash CS4 slows down like hell,
so everytime I have to restart it, and for long time now I am still tired of "understand" the long and undesired text before each save, what
the heck the flash alerts me, and how to save in CS3 format, and how to run into saving back to CS4 accidentally. And why I cannot save into
CS3, if the file is already in CS3 format, why flash wanna automatically upconvert the file.. Aaaaaa!!!!
My question:
my CS4 design premium license is capable to help me in installing a CS3 version of flash (or out of a CS3 design premium pack), for that project??

You have created a fairly unusual situation!
I would first try runnning the CS3 Clean Script to see if that can remove it without damaging the CS4 installation. It may not.
Otherwise I can only think of:
Un-install CS4 normally
Run CS4 clean script, a couple of times if necessary.

Manually remove any Adobe folders remaining – they may be in more places than C:\Program files!
Run a good registry cleaner like CCleaner.
