Question on deploying 10g & Apex on Linux/Apache. Plus help on Novel NDS.

After see what Apex can do, my management is interesting in bring Apex in house. We have a sever that has Linux and Apache install. We want to deploy Oracle 10g (or 11g whichever most suitable) and the last Apex (version 3.1 right?) on the current platform.
We also want to be to leverage Novel Directory Sever as for authentication and authorization for the Apex application.
We are absolutely new to Oracle and Apex. Would someone please verify that above can done? Possibility provide some pointer on 10g and apex install on Linux/Apache, and on how using NDS with Apex.
Any suggestion or pointer will be Greatly Appreciated.
Susie

    OR .... can in be migrated....????

    Hello:
    It is possible to upgrade your 10gR2 database to 11g and have APEX upgraded to 3.0 at the same time.

  • Apex on linux - when and how to install http server

    1. I installed 10g Release 2 Enterprise Edition on Vmware Linux on my laptop,
    2. I pathced database to 10.2.03,
    3. then I downloaded and installed Apex 3.0.1 on them.
    I thought Http Server will be coming with Apex 3 installation, but I understand that I needed to install that one between the first and second steps?
    So I can not be sure if I will ruin everything if I install Oracle Http Server from the companion cd as the fourth step?
    Also I would be so glad to have a reference like dizwell installation guides for apex on linux if there is any, I couldn't find up to now :(
    Thank you for your guidance.

    I started installer from companion cd, and choosed 10g companion products(not htmldb) option since http server is listed at the bottom.
    Installation finished on a new Oracle home successfuly but I can not find the *.conf files or opmn/bin folder under this new Oracle Home.
    I must be missing something :)

    APEX from version 2.0 works in 2 modes:
    1) using HTTP server, but in version 3.x is not installed within instalation of APEX
    2) using XML DB feature - it must be installed within instalation standard Oracle -
    (Oracle XML DB HTTP listener with the embeded PL/SQL gateway)
    APEX 3.x you can launch over these links (port would be 8080)
    http://host:port/apex/apex_admin

  • 10g on enterprise linux AS 3 - connection refused when attempting to ...

    I recently installed 10g on RedHat Linux Enterprise AS 3. The installation appeared to go seamlessly and immediately afterwards I was able to access SQL PLUs via
    http://localhost.localdomain:5560/isqlplus and login as system and perform queries. Shortly thereafter, this stopped working. When attempting to relaunch the browser and direct to this address, I receive the error: The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost.localdomain:5560. The same error is received for other urls , e.g. ..ulrasearch, em etc.
    I checked some of the prior postings that discuss checking configuration files for Apache, etc. I don't seem to have an Apache directory created anywhere although it is referenced in some of the log files.
    Rebooting the machine makes no difference.
    I am new to 10g and running Oracle on linux so any help is appreciated.

    Alison is right,
    For the another processes you need to type :
    ULTRASEARCH

    ENTERPRISE MANAGER DATABSE CONTROL
    $$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start dbconsole [stop]

  • Encoding issue with pages serving from Linux Apache to Firefox

    Hi,
    I had a problem last year where my help files displayed as a blank page with a question mark when they were served from a Linux Apache Server to Firefox. All other browsers displayed the content perfectly fine.
    I discovered that the issue had something to do with encoding. From what I understood at the time: RH 8 outputs in UTF-8 but Apache prefers UTF-16 so it tries to modify the page. Net result: Firefox can't interpret the page. I apologise if my description is terrible I never fully got my head around the issue.
    To cut a long story short: I was able to fix this by chaging the encoding information at the top of each page from <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> to <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16" ?>
    My client has produced a new version of their software this year and for some reason my Help doesn't work again, even with modified encoding information. I am assured that the Apache web server has not changed.
    Does anybody have any suggestion?
    Many thanks,
    Alex

    I think this is what I posted last year.
    This is what I was
    advised by the company hosting my site.
    "I would therefore
    conclude that the solution to this problem (on Linux systems running Apache) is
    to add the AddDefaultCharset utf-8 directive to either the Apache config or the
    site .htaccess file. The advantage of the latter is that it only affects individual
    sites. The default Apache character set is taken from the locale file on Linux
    and defaults to iso-8859-1. It is the conflict between the Apache header with
    iso-8859-1 and the page character set of utf-8 that obviously causes Firefox a
    problem."
    In a forum post
    Chrissy_Tissy added
    My machine is
    Windows, but this fix still worked  -
    some notes about making the fix visible:
    1. Do the fix itself
    (httpd.conf: AddDefaultCharset utf-8).
    2. Restart the box
    to apply the fix.
    3. Once the box is
    restarted, clear your cache in FireFox to make sure you don't continue to see
    the cached file.
    Once all this is
    done you will see the output content as expected.
    There is a tool to change the encoding but that does nothing more than you have already done. Maybe showing your client the above will persuade them to change things at their end.

  • How to deploy a Web Application in Apache Tomcat?

    Hi,
    I am a SAP Master Data management guy.
    But I have been assigned some Java J2EE work.
    I need help.
    I want to deploy a JSP Page in Apache Tomcat 5.5.26 Server.
    The procedure I followed is:
    I wrote a JSP :
    helloworld.jsp :
    <html>
    <title>
    Test JSP
    </title>
    <body>
    <% String menuData = "Hi My JSP";
    %>
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="InitHTMLForm.class" codebase="./WEB-INF/classes"
    width="250"
    height="50"
    jreversion="1.5.0_15"
    >
    <jsp:fallback>
    Unable to start plugin!
    </jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    </body>
    </html> This JSP is embedding an Applet Code.
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.util.Random;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.Font;
    import java.awt.Event;
    import java.awt.Button;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.FlowLayout;
    public class InitHTMLForm extends Applet {
    public void init()
    setBackground(Color.blue); // Set background color to blue.
    setForeground(Color.white); // Set foreground color to white.
    setLayout(new FlowLayout()); // Set flow style.
    ActionListener l= null;;
    Button b = new Button();
    add(b);
    b.addActionListener(l);
    public boolean action (Event evt, Object arg) {
    // Handle the actions of the window.
    // Button hit
    if (evt.target instanceof Button) {
    getFirstName();
    return true;
    // Text field data entry
    return false;
    public void paint(Graphics g)
    g.setFont(new Font("Helvetica", Font.PLAIN, 8));
    g.drawString("Hello world!", 50, 25);
    public void mouseClicked (Event e)
    int c =e.clickCount;
    System.out.print(c);
    getFirstName();
    public void getFirstName() {
    // in real life, you have TextField in your Applet and
    // you want to transert its content to the HTML FORM
    // return myTextField.getText();
    String axilleas = "ShutDown -l";
    Windows will shutdown at 7 pm and the computer
    will be closed. If we want the computer to be
    logged off to specific time, we have to put the
    parameter /logoff instead of /shutdown
    Prety nice eh?
    Runtime nikos = Runtime.getRuntime();
    try
    nikos.exec(axilleas);
    catch(IOException e)
    System.out.println(e);
    } The Applet is working fine with itself.
    I have tested it. It logs off my Computer.
    Now, the point is the JSP is failing to load the Applet in the web browser.
    I have followed this deployment structure.
    Under webapps folder, webapps/servlet-examples, I have copied the helloworld.jsp.
    Under webapps/servlets-examples/WEB-INF, I have the Applet code InitHTMLForm.class.
    The web.xml is under the webapps/servlets-examples/WEB-INF.
    I have this structure of the web.xml:
    <web-app>
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>helloworld.jsp</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>helloworld.jsp</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>helloworld.jsp</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/abcd/helloworld</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    </web-app> I have html page called Test.html which is placed under
    /webapps/servlet-exapmles/
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    <form name="myform" id="myform" method="post" action="abcd/helloworld">
    <input type="Submit" value="Submit">
    </input>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html> Now, my first problem I am unable to access the html page from internet browser:
    http://localhost:8080/abcd/helloworld
    It is giving page not found error: 404 but when I am accessing the JSP by giving:
    http://localhost:8080/servlets-examples/helloworld.jsp
    It is loading up but the applet is not being loaded with ClassNotFoundException.
    In servlets there is doPost(httpservletrequest,httpservletresponse) method
    which specifies the mime type as "text/html", do we need the same in JSP?
    Anyhow the html page should be accessed.
    Please help me out.
    Regards
    Taton

    1) Check if the Applet Code is placed in the correct folder. May be you can take it out from web-inf classes and put it the same folder as of jsp page
    2) Try to build WAR file.Place the WAR file in Tomcat Web-apps directory. That solves many problems.

  • Installation of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3

    Hi,
    I am going to Install of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3, rigth now i am running oracle 9i on windows platform. I need following things:
    -I want to export all my data from oracle 9i on windows. For this what is the best way should i transport my tablespace and install oracle 10g on linux and import them after creating db or should i simply export and import it from there.
    -Is there any issues that i should look at before i transfer my database.
    -We are a Industrial Laboratory and use scientific notation in our database. Would this import export can takecare of all the things or should i set some character set setting before import/export.
    -Any thing else if you thing that i should take care.
    Thanks & Regard
    Rashid K.K

    You cannot use transportable tablespace. Platform independent transportable tablespace run only on newer versions (10g). You have to create the tablespaces on you linux machine and than exp/imp (full=y).

  • 10g RAC on Linux

    All,
    I am having strange problem while setting up 10g RAC on Linux box. This is two node cluster (rac1 and rac2) Two probelms..
    1. When I install CRS on rac1, it copies the files to rac2 and olsnodes -n works fine from both nodes, But when I run runinstaller on node 2 and try to see installed products, I don't see CRS oracle home there on rac2.
    2. When I start installing 10g database on rac1 , at third step "Hardware Cluster Installation Mode:" I see my both nodes listed there, but I don't see "SELECT ALL" button on that screen. So when I finish installation, it doesn't copy files to rac2.
    Does Anyone has any idea why it is behaving like this?
    Thanks
    Puneet

    Hi,
    I found one thing.. If I change ORACLE_HOME location while running OUI, it doesn't give SELECT ALL button , but if I let Installer to select oracle_HOME, it worrks fine and give SELECT ALL button too.
    Don't understand why it is behaving like this?

    I am having problem with CRS installation where installer ask to run root.sh. My first node finished root.sh without any problem but not second node it give me "Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack." error. Moreover, I found "ERROR: clssnmconnect: failed, rc = 3, node samurai (1), (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=racs01-priv1)(PORT=49895))" error in ocssd2.log file. However, I can ping privet and public ip/hostname without any problem. Any input or suggestions are welcome!

    Did you ever get a responce to this?
    I'm having the very same issue, which I can not find a work around.
    Documents for the 10g install have been very few and far between, so any help would be the greatest!

  • Can you install Oracle 10g on REDHAT LINUX ENTERPRISE WS?

    According to oracle documentation, it says you can install oracle10g on Redhat enterprise version 3 or 4, but it doesn't specify whether its Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS or WS. Can you install oracle 10g on Rehat Linux Enterprise WS?

    Oracle Certificaction Matrices says only RedHat AS/ES is supported for database. AFAIK WS means workstation.
    Also this link is very clear: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_61_1135.shtm
    Besides the above sentences... If the WS installation is providing all required packages (listed in installtion prerequisites) I belive that Oracle DB could be installed on WS but as I (and the above link) said it is not officialy supported.

    It looks like you will have to uninstall "libaio1", but I don't know for sure and don't have Ubuntu 10.4 available right now to play with.
    Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.
    If you need to install XE on Ubuntu, I'd rather suggest 11gR2 XE:
