Question on Essbase Licensing?

I have a interview this afternoon with a small mfg company looking to put Essbase as the reporting layer on top of their ERP system.
Does anyone know ballparkwise what a essbase license per user (they have 40 finance professionals) runs along with the software for administration module to create and maintain the essbase database?
Thanks.

Whoops, sorry, the Essbase price is here: http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list-070617.pdf
The docs say $2,900/named user. What that costs in the real world only your friendly Oracle sales rep can say.

• Essbase License

Essbase License will expire in DEC 2013.Question is,Is the release 7.1.3 no longer supported by Oracle irrespective of the state of maintenance with company ?
Once the License expires, will I be still able to run essbase and if it allows to run ,can I also make changes to existing applications and databases.

I'm sure there will be a new Master license file available then. Oracle has a policy of "lifetime" support. For those who are still on Essbase 7 by then would be able to get a new license. That said, by then your hardware and operating system will be oldand probably no longer supported.

Hi Guys.
Would you happen to know if its possible for this message to be supressed? I have 130 users that access the database and I do not need this message popping up each time they log in.
This is the messgase : WARNING - 1051287 - Essbase license will expire on: 12/31/10.
I'm assuming its a server configuration that I need to change?

Hi,
I take it the users are not administrators, only administrators should see that message.
Another way to turn it off is in the add in option, global > Display messages > errors.

• Questions about Feature Licenses for 1800, 2800, 3800, 2900, 3900 series ISRs

Hey all,
I have a question about feature licensing for Cisco ISR 1800, 2800, 3800, 2900 series. I know there are differences between all of the series. My main question which applies for all the Cisco ISR series is this:
"If I want to upgrade the IOS to a newer version and upgrade from the basic feature set, do I need to get a license from Cisco? "
If yes:
And if so, how do I go about purchasing a license? Is a support contract needed?
Again, I need to know for each Cisco ISR series. I'd appreciate any help on this.
Thanks,
John

You probably want to reach your SE/AM about this so they can explain you exactly how this works, maybe some sales material, or you can also reach pre-sales.

• Information on Essbase License

Hi All -
I'll need some help understanding the Essbase licensing for system 9.3 & 11. I'll talk to an oracle rep on this soon, but before that I want to make sure that I understand it correctly. Any input on this would be highly appreciated.
fyi, I am not a typical infrastructure guy. I was recently invited to a client team & am trying to find out the existing licenses on the essbase server.
They are running 9.3.1, and I don't see any licensing information (nothing like .lic file, nothing in essbase.cfg folder, nothing like license directory under hyperion). When I looked at one of the xcp files in that server, I see that:
Serial Number: bbbbbb
License Expiry Date:
Port Count: 0
Ports In Use Count: 0
1. Does it mean that 9.3.1 doesn't require license file anymore? Any busniess org can use essbase 9.3 without having licenses?
2. Also, I know there is master license file in oracle website for essbase, do we need to download it in case there is no license file in server?
Now, if we want to upgrade the same v9 system to v11, I believe we must purchase licenses for every server.
3. If our server 2 CPUs X 6 cores = 12 VCPUs & 128 GB RAM; that means we need to buy essbase licenses for 6 CPUS. Is that correct?
4. If we have 200 users, how many ports or licenses we need to buy? Is the essbase license based on number of users or number of CPUs?

I hope this is the information you are looking for. I have responded based on my experience, but your situation may be different. Please check and verify with your Oracle sales rep before you do anything.
1. Does it mean that 9.3.1 doesn't require license file anymore? Any busniess org can use essbase 9.3 without having licenses?
There is no license file anymore in V9.3.1. All business organizations need license to use Essbase. I think Oracle software is free to download and learn for individuals or students on a non-commercial basis. Please read the Oracle agreement when you download software. All commercial use will have to be licensed.
2. Also, I know there is master license file in oracle website for essbase, do we need to download it in case there is no license file in server?
You do not need license file.
Please use the Oracle core conversion factor table to decide if you need to buy licenses
http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/contracts/processor-core-factor-table-070634.pdf
for example if your current licensing is on Intel Xeon Series 56XX with 8 CPU's (2 CPU x 4 cores) then you are effectively licensed for 8*0.5 = 4 core licenses. I dervied the 0.5 value from the core factor table.
The upgrade is part of Oracle on going maintenance so the licensing rules are still the same irrespective of the version you are in.
When you upgrade if you install on a Intel Itanium Series 95XX with 12 CPU's (2 CPU x 6 cores) then you have to buy additional 8 core licenses.
Licenses Needed = 12 * 1(core factor for Itanium) = 12
Licenses you already have = 4
Additional core Licenses you need to get = 12 - 4 = 8
We had an external third party licensing company help us understand all of this. You may want to hire somebody.
4. If we have 200 users, how many ports or licenses we need to buy? Is the essbase license based on number of users or number of CPUs?
It depends - licenses can either be by server cores or by users. If your licensing is by server core licenses then number of users does not matter. Please check with your Oracle rep or your vendor management on what type of licensing you have. For example one of our regions the licensing is by users and other regions it is by Server Cores.

• Questions on device licensing

Wasn't sure where the best place for this question is, so this is a cross post from the IDS/IPS forum:
I have a PIX 501 and I have a bunch general licensing questions about this device, and I don't have any prior experience with licensing on Cisco devices, so please be patient:
It comes with a basic license, but for any encryption related things, the product sheet says this:
The Cisco PIX 501 Security Appliance has two optional encryption licenses-one license (PIX-501-VPN-3DES) enables 168-bit 3DES and up to 256-bit AES encryption, the other license (PIX-VPN-DES) enables 56-bit DES encryption.
This device is end of sale, so I don't think you can buy a license for these things anymore, or can you? If a device is end of sale, can you either buy a license for the extra features, or does that functionality just open up for you? Or since it is end of sale, does that mean I can't buy the licenses, and if not, does that mean I can never use these extra features?
Since the item was used, it may be possible someone already installed a license (I need a power adapter for it still so I haven't been able to check). If this is the case, does the license ever expire? Can I use the license that is already there, if one exists? Also, how are licenses stored? If I do like a write erase, will the license be wiped out? How do I check for the existence of a license?
Let's say that the device does not have a license, will the software on the device just not recognize or show available the commands specific to the extra features that require a license? Or if I try a command for an extra feature, will it spit back an error telling me I need a license?
Thanks for your help!!

Richard
You have some interesting questions here - and since I do not work for Cisco my answers reflect my experience but are certainly not authoritative.
If the device is at end of sales I would guess that additional licenses are no longer available for purchase.
When devices get to end of sales it is certainly not the situation that features requiring special licensing just open up for you. If a feature required a special license and you do not have that license then the feature is just not available to you.
If you attempt to perform something that would require a license that you do not have there will be some error message. I am not sure what it would be - and may very well depend on what you are trying to do. I would suspect that many of the errors would be more like "invalid input" than a message that specifies licensing issues.
Officially the license was issued to the original purchaser and officially the purchaser can not transfer the license. But the practicality is that once installed the license is available to who ever is running the device. I am pretty sure that for PIX 501 there were not any licenses that were time based. On more recent products some licenses are permanent and some may be time based.
I can not speak to the technical details of how/where the license information is stored. But I can say that I have removed configs and/or write erase and the license was not affected.
When you get the power cord I believe that you will find the license information in the output of show version.

• Essbase licensing

Hi - I'm an Essbase and Planning developer so I don't get involved in licensing too much
I have been asked to find out about how many licenses we have for our Essbase system (how many users) - is there anywhere in the installation that I can find out ? (Essbase 11.1.2.1)

• Question about the license of the Helvetica fonts that came preinstalled on my OS X Mountain Lion

Hi, I'm a hobby illustrator and I currently work in Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Recently, I've decided that I'm going to switch to Linux Mint for various reasons including a more responsive and customizable system. However, I still want to use some of the fonts that came preinstalled with Mountain Lion, including the Helvetica, Helvetica CY, and Helvetica Neue font families.
Now, as I understand it, the license for the fonts included with Mountain Lion cannot be transferred over if I export one of the fonts from the Font Book app and install it in Linux Mint. My questions are:
1. Is this true, or does the license remain valid even if I copy the fonts to Linux Mint?
2. If not, does the license remain valid if I somehow access OS X's fonts from within Linux Mint and use them without copying them over?
Thanks,
Emily

Since this is absolutely NOT a forum associated with fonts from vendors other than Adobe, we cannot give you a definitive response to this.
You should consult the EULA (End User License Agreement) for Apple's operating systems and see if they address the issue of the license for the bundled fonts. If there is nothing mentioned there, I suggest you contact Apple directly for their official response to your query.
Generally speaking, I would be amazed if they tell you that once you have a license to any version of MacOS, you have rights to use the bundled fonts on any other platform for the indefinite future.

• Questions about ESA license of ironport C370

Hello all,
We have two Cisco ironport C370 appliances.
There is one Product Authorization Key for the ESA Inbound Essentials SW Bundle (AS, AV, OF) License.
And there is a term called "entitlement quantity" for the ESA license.
The value of "entitlement quantity" = 1000
What is the meaning of "entitlement quantity" that is related to the ESA license ?
We would like to share the ESA license for two ironport C370.
Then is it means each ironport C370 get entitlement quantity of 500 ?
May you please help give advice on the questions above ?

• Questions about Timesten license

HI
I heard that Timesten license is based on number of CPU cores. But from https://shop.oracle.com/pls/ostore/f?p=dstore:product:2482249887985192::NO:RP,6:P6_LPI,P6_PROD_HIER_ID:4509774006651805719987,4510006213851805720017, it seems that it is based on processor. Could you please give some clarification?
And another question is that whether the standby Timesten is also charged?
Thanks

Hi Ramon,
Processor based pricing is based on the CPU core type and multiplier depending on platform and processor types. Refer to the price list posted on oracle.com for more details.
The forum is for technical discussion; it will be best to contact your Oracle account representative for licensing questions on what you need for deployment.

• Questions about the license of ISE

Good morning. We are looking for the product to replace our freeradius servers, and we have the following questions for Cisco ISE:
1. We want to use one SSID for all clients, and use ISE to separate the different roles (student, employee, faculty, guest, eduroam, alumni, etc.) by reading the attributes from AD. Which kind of licenses are good for our situation (base, plus, advanced, or wireless). Please briefly explain the difference of these licenses.
2. Is the ISE base license a simultaneous license (for example, can 10,000 base license support 10,000 simultaneous wireless clients?). As we know the Aruba clearpass license is based on the number of unique authenticating endpoints (devices) per day (not simultaneous license). Does Cisco ISE license work the same way?
3. We also want to use the role based access control for wired connection later, shall we buy different license than the base or wireless license?
Thank you, and have a nice day.

• A question about SAP licensing

Hello:
I need a clarification about the SAP licensing. First, let me give you an introduction.
My company signed a license agreement in 1999 with SAP when buying SAP R/3 4.0B. Since then, and for cost reasons, there was not an agreement to migrate our licenses to the different schemas proposed by SAP along these years, i.e. mySAP or Business Suite. Currently, we are paying our annual maintenance since 1999.
We are in SAP 4.6C now and are we are forced to migrate to ECC6.0 because 4.6C will not be supported in 2011.
We are preparing the upgrade to ECC 6.0, but it seems that we should first "upgrade" our old licenses to Business Suite yes or yes, and pay for the difference; is that correct? So it means that our annual maintenace payment is not useful to upgrade SAP 4.6C to ECC 6.0 without cost?
Hope you can help me.
Thanks.

Hi,
>So it means that our annual maintenace payment is not useful to upgrade SAP 4.6C to ECC 6.0 without cost?
We had exactly the same case when upgrading from R/3 4.7 to ECC6. We had to re negotiate all the prices to go from a R/3 license to a Netweaver license.
I even think this is the real reason of the name change to ECC (5 or 6) instead of R/3 5.0 !
"It's not a software upgrade; it is a change of software..."

• Question about sap license audit, could you help me

how many users can my test system use ? Does SAP concern the users I used in test system ?
could you give me some information about that? thanks a lot.

Hi,
We have hundreds of user on our production system, and several developer user and have been go live several years ago (SAP R/3) and proceed license audit annualy.
Typically, license audit is calculated by the number of user on your production system and the number of developer user on your (development) system. Hence, the number of usual user (which is not developer user) on your test system should not be brought into SAP license audit calculation.
to proceed, first you have to clasify contractual user type via SU01, and then proceed it using USMM transaction.

• Question: Changing Essbase Unit in the Disk Drive

Hello to all,We have to change Hyperion Essbase 5.0.2 p7 from unit F:\ to C:\ because unit f is near to dissapear. It?s posible to do this without export all databases and reinstalling the server???Thanks in advance,Eduardo Fern?ndez S?nchez

If you are talking about the Essbase OLAP Server installation, the answer is no. I believe that you have to reinstall to change drives. Drive information is embedded in some of the server files and app files. Did you know that you can change the drive that the ind and pag files are stored by db? This is done on the storage tab of the database settings dialog. This might provide an option for allocating data to other/multiple drives.
--
Jeff McAhren
Dallas, Texas
