Question on installing ilife o6 software

I have a MacBook and when I got it I found a thread on here on how to install OSX without many of the default applications. I couldn't find the thread now, at the time I installed OSX I chose to NOT install Garageband but now I want to do a podcast and rather than use Audacity I thought I'd use garageband, but my question is..
is there a way to install it without wiping my HD clean for a fresh install of OSX? Can I just pop the cd in and install that one program?
if I have to erase my HD, I can backup my current contents as i have a 300gb external drive

no need to wipe you whole drive.

find the install pkg for GB (on your OS X disk)
extract it to your desktop

  • Yet another question about installing ilife 06 with limited drive space

I received iLife 2006 as a gift for my birthday. I am a happy user of most the iLife 2005 programs (except iDVD, which is useless on my machine with only a Combo drive). I am interested in making use of iWeb and the other improved features of iLife 2006.
My problem is that my 40 GB drive is nearly full, with about 2 GB free. Of this, my iTunes library uses about 15 GB, and the IPhoto library takes another 2 GB or so. I do have a 60 GB iPod with about 25 GB free.
I have read about complications with restoring the iTunes Library from the hidden folder on the iPod. But I wonder if the library could be more easily backed up to the iPod, temporarily deleted from my main hard drive, then restored after installing iLife 2006 (I have read that somewhat less than the full 10 GB is needed after install is complete).
Alternatively, will the iLife 2006 installer allow me to install to the iPod as an external drive, from which I can make adjustments as needed?

You can tell your wife that if you don't get an external hard drive to store your iTunes and iPhoto Library you are a prime target to lose your images and tunes.
Yes, using iWeb you get a new url. I used Contribute to do the fiveafertfive.com site for my daughter's band.
iWeb can create very nice pages and you can see many of them by visiting this link on the iWeb forums. It's eight pages long and lots of sites to look at.

Unfortunatley, the ability to send albums directly to .mac is no more with iPhoto 6. You can only send them to iWeb to make your page. Then in iWeb you publish your page to your idisk in a different folder.

  • Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SF card as the default install location for software applications?

Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SD card / external drive as the default install location for software applications? Primarily interested in apps installed from the windows store. This should be available in the settings
charm within the windows store. This must have been overlooked in the development of windows 8.1 or is a bug.

The registry method does not work with 8.1.  I found this out the hard way.  Doing it on 8.1 will leave you reinstalling the OS if you didn't do a SRP beforehand.

  • Inability to install iLife software program

[I have searched this web site from top to bottom...where do we go to communicate with support?]
I use an eMac 1 GHz Pwr PC G4 w/512 MB SDRAM and an 80 GB hard drive installed. Somewhat over 60 GB of hard disk is available. I do have a super drive DVD installed. I do have Quick Time 7.2 on my system.
I have Symantec AntiVirus software that blesses the iLive software disc. I DISABLE the NAV and run a "cold boot" of the system so that nothing should interfere with installation.
I attempt to run the "Install iLife" program, a dialog box comes up & tells me that iMovie will not work on my system and won't be installed. I click OK and all is well...until I reach somewhere in the region of 80% installed on the iPhoto program. At that point, everything quits and, after the appropriate time, a dialog box comes up and says: "There were errors installing the software! Please try installing again." (and again, and again, etc.)
As near as I can tell, the installation should go without a hitch.

    tamori:
Your first mistake is having Symantic on your Mac. Symantic gave up supporting Mac OS back around 9,maybe 10.1. It's considered to be one a dangerous item to have on current Macs. Do a search in the Tiger forum for Symantic and you'll see what I mean.
Have you checked out the system requirements for iLife 06?
    System Requirements
    • Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor; iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster; iDVD requires a 733MHz or faster processor.
    • 512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended
    • Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
    • 3GB of available disk space
    • DVD drive for installation
    • QuickTime 7.2 or later
You might try using Pacifist to locate and install individual application packages on the iLife 08 disk.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • When I click 'install bundle software' on my Mac Applications disk to install ilife, it says it cannot install

  • I am unable to open Photo on my MacBook Pro after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get says "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3)  after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.

  • Can I install iLife '09 on a early 2006 model macbook?

Does anybody know if a early 2006 model macbook can install iLife '09 or iLife '11? I just got my hard drive replaced and was able to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard (I'm a little behind the times). I look at the requirements for iLife, and I think I'm good on everything. I have OS X v10.6.8, with 1 GB 533 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM,  2GHz processor speed with 1 processor, 2 cores, 667MHz Bus speed, 2 MB L2 Cache. I don't know where to look to find the information about the 24-bit audio. I clicked on the System Profiler and looked at audio, but it didn't say anything about it. If there is anyone that can answer this question, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
    Joe

If you're on 10.6.8 you can use either '09 or '11.
As for the Audio question, if you go to Audio MIDI Setup (Applications > Utilities), and select the Audio Devices Window (from the Window menu in the menu bar if it doesn't open on that one by default) and see the drop-down in the middle of the pane - you'll see that 24-bit is available.

  • Re-installing iLife

    hello,
I am trying to clean re-install iLife softwares.
I have deleted (iweb, garageband, idvd. iphoto, imovie) from the application folder.
but in order to make a proper clean install, is there other things I need to delete before I install
them all?  When I checked the customize installment I saw "CPU Help Files" and "Sounds and Jingles"
Where can I locate these two to delete them before I start the clean re-installment.
(the reason I'm re-installing iLife is cause, I installed the same softwares (rewrote them over the previous softwares, which lessen my
empty HD space, and I simply did not wanted to take over the empty HD spaces in vain, so decided to clean re-install them)
I would appreciate your informations. thanks.

    {quote:}I am not a 'mac' expert{quote}
OK I see now why you wanted to use Pacifist: not because you were looking for infos about the hidden files and about Pacifist itself, but because you were wrongly advised in the past that restoring your bundled Apple software had to be done using Pacifist when there are much easier, "macish" ways.
    {quote:} demeaning{quote}
It's not. I stated it clear on top that my reply was not to you, rather to the other people who will read this and are looking for the simple, straightforward answer.
I didn't know you are "not a Mac expert". I really thought your question was about specifically using Pacifist.
    {quote:} This is supposed to be a help forum, not to chastise users for asking legitimate questions{quote}
...and I would be sorry indeed and would apologize if it was the case.
I can be sorry only about Frank's "lighten up" that seems too harsh perhaps, so I'd say "sorry" about that
    Now that things are clear,
please read my first reply up there, it has a simple answer that doesn't need to tinker with Pacifist.
Enjoy your Mac and the Apple Forums,
one of the best places on the net, where newbies certainly are respected and can get simple, polite answers, just like the Mac spirit does with the computers:
Not having to tinker and be a genius just to use your Mac.
    Best regards,
    :-)Axel
PS: If someone knows which files exactly, using Pacifist, I'd still be happy to learn that myself (as an aside).

  • I've bought a secondhand iMac and can't install iLife

I've bought a secondhand iMac. Since the previous owner's AppleID is related to this iMac, I reinstalled the iMac with the help of Apple supportdesk. Now everything should be clean and I want to install iLife with my AppleID, but I get an error trying to do so. I click on accept and fill in my AppleID en password, but it says that the app is allready assigned to an other AppleID and therefor I have to buy iLife. And even if I should want to buy the software (which I don't want to, because it is part of this Lion-version), I can't buy it.
So my question is, does someone knows how to attach my AppleID to this iMac and all of it's software/App store?
I've also talked with AppleSupport and raised a ticket. And in the reply via mail there was no solution other than go to this community.
    Thanks in advance!

    ThunderLizard wrote:
    Hi Dave,
Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I don't have the installation disk, he said he bought it without any.
I've done a clean install of Lion with my own AppleID, so why is the AppleID of the previous owner still in here?
I've tried to purchase iLife, but that is also not possible. I keep on getting into a circle...
If you didn't erase the drive before reinstalling, that's probably why the previous owner's Apple ID is still being shown. When dealing with second-hand equipment, it's almost always a good idea to erase the drive (I even prefer to do a "zero all data" as a precaution and test of the drive) and then reinstall everything. That ensures both that any software you install you have a license for and that no malicious software could possible remain.
What does the Mac App Store say when you try to repurchase iLife?

  • ITunes appears "disabled" after installing iLife

I've tried to find an answer to my problem by reading the other discussion questions, but I haven't seen anything quite like it....
Background: I had trouble installing iLife 04. (Yes, I know it's an old version, but I had put it off because everytime I try to install something new it gets screwed up!) It kept telling me that something was "in use" and couldn't be installed. I was advised to open activity monitor / highlight "iTunes Helper" under "Process name" and click "Quit process". Well, it worked, but my iTunes icon in the dock ended up with a question mark on it, and I couldn't open it. In playing around with the icon it "poofed" out of sight. I can find "iTunes" and my libraries in "Users" on the hard drive, but I can't open iTunes. Some of the items in the libraries appear with music icons in front of them (the iTune icon) and some have a document icon in front of them. Trying to open things gives me an "unexpected error code 10660". I realized after I installed iLife 04 that I was probably installing a LOWER version of iTunes (I already had upgraded to 6. something) so I ran my software updates and there were updates for iDVD, iMovie, and iPhoto (as I expected there would be) but none for iTunes. I went online and downloaded the latest iTunes thinking that that might solve the problem, but when I tried to install that, it kept telling me that I couldn't because I already had a higher version installed. It kept showing iTunes as "disabled". I'm afraid to try anything else for fear that I may screw it up even more!

Remove the 'iTunesX.pkg' file from Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts.
This file tells the Installer that iTunes 6 already is installed.
Removing it should fix the installation problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac Pro

I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac pro (early 2009).
These questions might seem stupid to many of you, but, as my last, in fact my one and only, computer before the Mac Pro was a IICX/4/80 running System 7.5, I am a complete novice regarding this particular matter.
A few days ago I installed a WD3000HLFS VelociRaptor 300GB in bay 1, and moved the original 640GB HD to bay 2. I now have 2 bootable internal drives, and currently I am using the VR300 as my startup disk. Instead of cloning from the original drive, I have reinstalled the Mac OS, and all my applications & software onto the VR300. Everything is backed up onto a WD SE II 2TB external drive, using Time Machine. The original 640GB has an eDrive partition, which was created some time ago using TechTool Pro 5.
The system will be used primarily for photo editing, digital imaging, and to produce colour prints up to A2 size. Some of the image files, from scanned imports of film negatives & transparencies, will be 40MB or larger. Next year I hope to buy a high resolution full frame digital SLR, which will also generate large files.
Currently I am using Apple's bundled iPhoto, Aperture 2, Photoshop Elements 8, Silverfast Ai, ColorMunki Photo, EZcolor and other applications/software. I will also be using Photoshop CS5, when it becomes available, and I will probably change over to Lightroom 3, which is currently in Beta, because I have had problems with Aperture, which, until recent upgrades (HD, RAM & graphics card) to my system, would not even load images for print. All I had was a blank preview page, and a constant, frozen "loading" message - the symbol underneath remained static, instead of revolving!
It is now possible to print images from within Aperture 2, but I am not happy with the colour fidelity, whereas it is possible to produce excellent, natural colour prints using its "minnow" sibling, iPhoto!
My intention is to buy another 3 VR300s to form a 4 drive Raid 0 array for optimum performance, and to store the original 640GB drive as an emergency bootable back-up. I would have ordered the additional VR300s already, but for the fact that there appears to have been a run on them, and currently they are out of stock at all, but the more expensive, UK resellers.
I should be most grateful to receive advice regarding the following questions:
    QUESTION 1:
I have had a look at the RAID setting up facility in Disk Utility and it states: "To create a RAID set, drag disks or partitions into the list below".
If I install another 3 VR300s, can I drag all 4 of them into the "list below" box, without any risk of losing everything I have already installed on the existing VR300?
Or would I have to reinstall the OS, applications and software again?
I mention this, because one of the applications, Personal accountz, has a label on its CD wallet stating that the Licence Key can only be used once, and I have already used it when I installed it on the existing VR300.
    QUESTION 2:
I understand that the failure of just one drive will result in all the data in a Raid 0 array being lost.
Does this mean that I would not be able to boot up from the 4 drive array in that scenario?
Even so, it would be worth the risk to gain the optimum performance provide by Raid 0 over the other RAID setup options, and, in addition to the SE II, I will probably back up all my image files onto a portable drive as an additional precaution.
    QUESTION 3:
Is it possible to create an eDrive partition, using TechTool Pro 5, on the VR300 in bay !?
Or would this not be of any use anyway, in the event of a single drive failure?
    QUESTION 4:
Would there be a significant increase in performance using a 4 x VR300 drive RAID 0 array, compared to only 2 or 3 drives?
    QUESTION 5:
If I used a 3 x VR300 RAID 0 array, and installed either a cloned VR300 or the original 640GB HD in bay 4, and I left the Startup Disk in System Preferences unlocked, would the system boot up automatically from the 4th. drive in the event of a single drive failure in the 3 drive RAID 0 array which had been selected for startup?
Apologies if these seem stupid questions, but I am trying to determine the best option without foregoing optimum performance.

    Well said.
    Steps to set up RAID
Setting up a RAID array in Mac OS X is part of the installation process. This procedure assumes that you have already installed Mac OS 10.1 and the hard drive subsystem (two hard drives and a PCI controller card, for example) that RAID will be implemented on. Follow these steps:
    1. Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. When the disks appear in the pane on the left, select the disks you wish to be in the array and drag them to the disk panel.
    3. Choose Stripe or Mirror from the RAID Scheme pop-up menu.
    4. Name the RAID set.
    5. Choose a volume format. The size of the array will be automatically determined based on what you selected.
    6. Click Create.
Recovering from a hard drive failure on a mirrored array
    1. Open Disk Utility in (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. Click the RAID tab. If an issue has occurred, a dialog box will appear that describes it.
    3. If an issue with the disk is indicated, click Rebuild.
    4. If Rebuild does not work, shut down the computer and replace the damaged hard disk.
    5. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
    6. Drag the icon of the new disk on top of that of the removed disk.
    7. Click Rebuild.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2559
    Drive A + B = VOLUME ONE
    Drive C + D = VOLUME TWO
What you put on those volumes is of course up to you and easy to do.
A system really only needs to be backed up "as needed" like before you add or update or install anything.
/Users can be backed up hourly, daily, weekly schedule
    Media files as needed.
    Things that hurt performance:
    Page outs
Spotlight - disable this for boot drive and 'scratch'
SCRATCH: Temporary space; erased between projects and steps.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StandardRAIDlevels
(normally I'd link to Wikipedia but I can't load right now)
Disk drives are the slowest component, so tackling that has always made sense. Easy way to make a difference. More RAM only if it will be of value and used. Same with more/faster processors, or graphic card.

  • I just installed iLife on my new Imac version 10.8.2 and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says that I Photo is damaged or incomplete.  What do I do to restore my iPhoto and pictures!

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says it is damaged or incomplete.  What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures?  I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!

I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated.  Software update usually takes care of it.  It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version.  I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto.  Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store.  That is the version you need.  You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
    good luck.
PS.  your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder.  don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder.
