Question on installing Oracle

Hi,
There are 2 scripts need to be run by root user when installing oracle . I have 2 questions regarding the 2nd script:
1) what does this script do , it seems generate some files in a local bin directory
2) The local bin directory(normally I just accpet the default witch is /usr/local/bin/), however, with OFA, I could have multiple ORACLE_HOME for different version of oracle to install under ORACLE_BASE. however, the local bin directory is out of ORACLE_BASE, when I install another version of oracle, should I let the script genreate files in another local bin directory or same and just overrid the files generad by previous installation?
Thanks

1) what does this script do , Open the script in editor of choice & read the contents.
2)should I let the script genreate files in another local bin directory or same and just overrid the files generad by previous installation?Since it is your system, you get to decide what is best for your environment.

  • Question on installing Oracle Service Bus

    Hello
I am new to this so if there is another forum I should write to please let me know.
I am doing a simple development install on my lap top running windows 7 of the last version of OSB but at the end the server does not start. I am using the default derby DB, I do not know its user name or password. I did not install the RCU but some are suggesting that I should. At the end the server does not start and as you can see the error is pointing to an SQL database related problem.
    1) Should I install the RCU so it will install the schema that I need ?
    2) I dowloaded the RCU but it is 580M !! ? is this correct ? why do I need 580M to isntall a schema ? or am I in the wrong place and I dowloaded the wrong file ?
    3) what is the derby user name and password ? how can I access this DB ?
web logic Admin console is running fine
I start the OSB configuration window and I am creating a new domain
    I check the following
Oracle Service Bus Extension - Single Server Domain Topology - 11.1.1.3
the following options are also selected, by default:
    ■ Oracle JRF - 11.1.1.0 [oracle_common]
    ■ WebLogic Advanced Web Services for JAX-RPC Extension - 10.3.3.0 [wlserver_10.3]
I am continuing the configuration accepting all the default values.
The Database connection testing fails but according to the manual it should fail
at the end I check the start the admin server but there is a problem and the server does not start
    Any idea ?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Did you create the multiple domains.i observed this when we create multiple domains. Typically seems to be we have to create single MDS schema using RCU for each domain. I have seen this in one of the Manoj posts in this forum thought did not get the link.
you can modify the doamin name in the table WL_LLR_ADMINSERVER by logging into db using mds user. update with expected value as shown in the error.

  • General Question - Why is Oracle such a pain to install on a Windows 2000 server

IS this by Design? I have to use Oracle for one of my clients and I cant get 8.1.6 , 8.1.7 or 9 to install correctly for anything. Im confused about things like why the database wont start, or it says its started under services but of course its not. I sometimes (like once) can get the management console to come up but I usually have my fingers crossed and grabbing my lucky rabbits foot. Whats up? Am I "oracle challenged" here or do others experience the same issues?
    Any help is welcome.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi!
This (http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=159333.1) guide on metalink also does the trick.
    Regards Mikael
I feel your pain. I've probably installed the RDBMS on 25 separate Windows servers in the last 5 years (versions 7.3 through 9.2) as well as iFS, iAS, etc. For a novice, and even a pro, it can be a hair pulling experience. I've virtually given up trying to do upgrades and fortunately I've been able to schedule downtime for those servers requiring upgrades. Even for "clean" machines it isn't always 100% reliable. My experiences installing Oracle on Linux have been harrowing, and it is only for someone that is truely committed. My best advice, is get yourself a true test machine that you can completely redo, and test installing it. For Windows, if an install fails (or if you want to "get rid of an older version of Oracle all together" before you upgrade), then do the following (do not do this on production machine, or with anything that you want to keep, and it is not sanctioned by Oracle, and no warranties what so ever).
    1) De-install all Oracle products using Universal installer.
    2) Remove all Oracle entries from the path statement
    3) Delete all of the files in the Oracle directory. There will be problems with some files in Bin.
    4) Using Regedit delete the software registry keys for Oracle (hkey_local_machine\software\oracle).
    5) Delete any left over entries in the registry for Oracle services (hkey_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ora*)
    6) Delete all of the oracle files in program files\oracle
    7) Reboot
    8) Delete the files in the oracle directory that couldn't be deleted in step #3 above and #6 (if any)
Oracle should now be gone, and you should be able to test another installation.

  • Need help on installing Oracle Application express 3.2

    Hi,
I had downloaded Oracle 11g database and installed the personal edition.I got the Enterprise manager login page working and also the DBConsole
I had Downloaded APEX 3.2 and wanted to install apex 3.2.I wanted to do the following scenario
Scenario 3: Install from the Database and Configure the Embedded PL/SQL
    Gateway
Planning to do these steps: ( I have few questions on these steps and are below each step)
    ■ Running the apxconf.sql Configuration Script
Do I have to install Oracle Application express or is it already installed in 11g personal edition?
Do I have to create a seperate database or schema for this step( I have only one instance orcl1) ?■ Verifying the Oracle XML DB HTTP Server Port
Can I do this step in my current orcl1 instance,if so which user■ Enabling Oracle XML DB HTTP Server
Once I carry out these steps, Can I access the admin page for apex with https://localhost:port/apex_admin ?
Am I missing any other steps ?
    Thanks

    I have one idea..
    Try to install again:
    1) download and unzip apex_3.2 in $ORACLE_HOME
    You will have:
    $ORACLE_HOME/apex - old directory
    $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2 - new directory
    2) in command line go to $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2/apex
    run sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    in sqlplus run @apexins tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images
    Where:
tablespace_apex is the name of the tablespace for the Oracle Application Express application user.
tablespace_files is the name of the tablespace for the Oracle Application Express files user.
tablespace_temp is the name of the temporary tablespace.
images is the virtual directory for Oracle Application Express images. To support future Oracle Application Express upgrades, define the virtual image directory as /i/.
    Example:
    @apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
    3) check installation log for errors
    4) in command line go to $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2/apex
    run sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    in sqlplus run @apxconf
    set admin password
    set port
    5) run @apxldimg.sql $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2
    6) check for running listener and try to login apex: http:\\host:port\apex\apex_admin
    Good luck!

  • How to install Oracle 9i EE on a clustered server (Windows 2000)

I need to install Oracle 9i on Clustered server (Windows 2000 Server)with Oracle Fail safe. There are 2 Nodes and one Clustered disk with RAID 5.
The documentation from Oracle is NOT very helpful as it does not specify the installation of Oracle DB on the 2 nodes.Where will the control files reside etc for each node.
Any inputs will be highly appreciated
    Thanks
    Masih

    Hi,
    reply to my own question:
In the docs provided with the downloads for Oracle Database Server 9i x64, I found that this version requires either
    - Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
    or
    - Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
So I guess, the only X64 platform being supported under Windows Server 2003 (both Datacenter / Enterprise Editions) is Itanium CPUs ...
... though this is not (!!!) clearly stated in the download link (other/newer versions are listed more precisely - I guess it's a matter of an old link: no Intel Xeon / AMD Opterons were available (???) when Oracle 9i database server was published).
So I'll give it a try with 10g database server ;-)))

  • Installing Oracle Application Server 10g 101202 on Windows 2008 64 bit

    Hi All,
what i need to do is install this software like this:
installing Oracle Infrastructure to handel Sessions as db for oracle forms & reports
install Oracle Forms & Reports Service as Middle-Tire on the same machine in defirent home
configure my report server as i require it to work with rdf files in spechial folders
i have done this installation more than i can remember in Windows 2003 R2 SP2 32 bit
but for Windows Server 2008 i am facing some problem that there is no software avilable for 64 bit or Windows 2008 in Oracle Download Site
Spechilaly when my server is not itanum !
Can any one point me to the right download page if avilable or another solution for this problem
i don't think that oracle have stopped support for this product spechilaly when the reports generated by Oracle Report Service is far to good and fast with Oracle Database
    Best Regards
    Ibrahim

    Hi Ibrahim,
You should decide what you require.
32bit version can be installed on 64bit server and this should work fine (check the certification matrix for this).
The "problem" is that you would not gain any performance benefit from the 64bit server
If you want to have benefit you can upgrade the JVM to 64 bit version.
I did this 3 years ago and I do not remember exact steps though everything worked OK.
    WARNING:
this  can be unsupported, ask support to be sure
    - Install the 32 bit version on the server
    - Download 64 bit Java JRE/JDK and install it (well, you can search the same release as included in the AppServer or try newer one, 7 for example)
    - later, reconfigure the appserver so it uses the version you've installed, OR Copy the everything from c:\progfiles\java\... to the directory OraHome\... (forgot exact directories)
try to search the forum, there had been a thread with the same question

  • A few questions re: installing 10g on a virtual linux machine

I am in the process of building up a virtual linux box on my XP laptop and have a few questions regarding the networking setup. Purpose is to have a sandbox *nix setup at my fingertips.
Here's what I have so far:
Dell Latitude laptop running Win XP. This is a DHCP machine.
    Installed VMWare Player
Created virtual machine with OEL 4.8, with NAT network config
So far, so good. Next step is to install 10.2.0.4 EE on the virtual Linux machine. When installing 10.2.0.4 directly on the XP system, of course I had to install a loopback adapter to provide a fixed IP address for Oracle, all well documented in the installation guide. While it is my understanding that the loopback adapter, as installed and configured on Windows, is primarily a Windows issue, I would expect something of the same fundamental under Linux insomuch as it is still a dhcp machine. However, when checking the relevant installation guide, the section on networking considerations and DHCP simply gave a two-paragraph discussion of what DHCP was. I found no discussion on how to deal with it in a *nix environment.
This particular vmware setup gives me a choice of 3 network configs - Bridged , NAT, or host-only (private vitrual net shared only with the host) I am currently configured to use NAT because I need outside connectivity (to yum server, etc) but do not want an additional device (ip address) on the real network. I'm guessing I could use host-only most of the time and when I need to access the internet, shut down the db and switch back to NAT.
This is all new territory for me, so I guess I'm looking at some 'best practices' advice as much as anything.

    Ed,
I would encourage going for OEL 5u2 or 5u3 and including the oracle-validated package. It makes sure you have all the prerequisites for 10gR2 and makes life much easier.
I set up dozens of these machines for Oracle U classes. What I started with originally is 2 virtual NIC - a NAT and a Bridged. The Bridged allowed me to access the outside world at any time and was assigned using DHCP from the local network. The NAT I'd configure manually as a static IP, and I used it primarily to provide a second 'virtual network' so the classroom machines could communicate with each other.
In my latest iteration, I've dropped back to a single Bridged NIC based on DHCP. For Oracle install purposes, I
    - pick a hostname (myhost.oraclass.com)
    - switch to static IP (I've scripted it - edits /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and /etc/syscfg/network : hostname) but using the network GUI tool is ok as well
    - I choose the static to macth the DHCP address assigned
    - inject a single line into the /etc/hosts with the new static address, the hostname, and a hostname that I want to publish
    192.168.4.21 myhost.oraclass.com orahost student21.oraclass.com student21
    - set a global env variable (/etc/profile.d/oraprofile.sh (export HOSTNAME=myhost.oraclass.com)
and after installing Oracle, I switch back to DHCP. Then if I want to travel, I can easily switch the 'static' address as often as I want (also scripted) to match the IP addr the 'host DHCP' provides.
I've used the NAT. It hands out a DHCP address and usually it works for me (and Oracle) simply by making it static (as above) and letting VMWare container handle it. But every once in a while it seems to 'jam up' and I'd need to fight with it. So I've converted to bridged .. with the help of some scripts I've written.

  • Problem installing Oracle Internet Developer Suite 1.0.2.4.1 (Forms & Reports 6i)

    Hi all,
I am unable to install Oracle Internet Developer Suite 1.0.2.4.1 - specifically Forms & Reports 6i, Designer, Discoverer (ALL Products on Quick Install option on Windows 98 system). The installation proceeds to Install screen when the various files start to load ... Then the whole process stops after showing 100% load (sometimes the screen freezes, sometimes I get error message - illegal instruction etc) when the following file is being loaded :
    Extracting ... ewt_swingaccessbridge.jar
    I have another question :
I have Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.7) installed on D:\Oracle\Ora81 already.
During the install process (before I get the above error message) the 8.1.7 RSF-based product install location screen presents itself with the option to create a new Oracle Home and location (The preferred Oracle Home name iDSData and preferred Oracle Home Location D:\ORACLE\iDSData are already entered in the boxes) or Select an existing ORACLE_HOME. My existing ORACLE_HOME is
D:\Oracle\Ora81. What am I supposed to do at this point ? The installation guide is not explicit. Any help with these topics will be greatly appreciated.
I will be greatly obliged to anyone who can assist me with installing Forms & Reports 6i. Many thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Partha Sur

Had the same problem too. It won't install in the same directory as your database. You need to create a new directory on your hard drive and have it installed there. Worked for me.

    Hi expert,
I need install Oracle golden gate base on below combination:
    GG version: 11.1.1.0 (x64)
    OS version: Redhat AS3 UL6 (x64)
    Oracle version: 9.2.0.8 (x64)
I set the .bash_profile for oracle as below:
    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/9.2.0
    export GGATE=/software/ogg
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$GGATE

However, after installation, when I run ggsci, it show below error message:
ggsci: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I searched the libstdc++.so.6 in the server and found one in /lib64/ssa/libstdc++.so.6, I changed the LD_LIBRARY_PATH as:
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$GGATE:/lib64/ssa/
then this time it has below error:

ggsci: /lib64/ssa/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4' not found (required by /software/ogg/libxerces-c.so.28)
    my question:
    1. Is GG 11.1.1.0 supported on RHEL AS3 U6? From oracle official website, it seems only the EL 4 UL7+ or EL 5 UL3+ are supported.
    2. If it's supported, how to resolve above error?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I think GG version: 11.1.1.0 (x64) supports only oracle 10g and 11g databases.
Try GG version: 10.4.0.19 (x64) for oracle 9.2.0.8
    Thanks.

First, technical questions need to be addressed to an appropriate technical forum. There is an installation forum under Products | Database | Installation.
Second, Oracle 8.1.7 was the first version of Oracle that was certified on Windows 2000. 9.2 was the first version certified on Windows 2003. Oracle 8.0.3 hasn't been supported in a number of years. I wouldn't expect this combination to work.

    Thanks in advance.

There are many versions of RedHat. Your post indicates you are using one of them, but your post really does not give a hint as to which one. Funny thing is - different versions have different install requirements.
I really don't understand why operating system version is such a big secret. Especially since it is logically so critical to installation issue. Even when installing on Windows, the first questions is 'which Windows'.
You have, of course, followed the suggestions at http://www.puschitz.com and noted the errors and workarounds, have you not.
Especially about things like packages and versions.
