any help would b greatfull

No; you need to use a Mini DisplayPort connection. Click here for setup instructions; if the iMac has a Thunderbolt port, the Mac mini needs to have one as well.
This isn't available for a 21-inch iMac with a Mini DisplayPort.

  • HELP - Dial Up Download Question from a Mac Mini Tiger OS X 10.4.6 Newbee??

There are hugh download files (133 Mb for 10.4.7 for example) that appeared when I ran Software update the first day I got my Mini. This would require 10 to 12 hours download on my Juno account. One solution I saw in these forums was to have a neighbor with High Speed connection download and burn a disc. My NEWBEE question is... Can you go to the Apple OS X download page and successfully download the 10.4.7 update (and others) using a Windows machine with Windows software?? Then have that Windows PC burn a disc that can transfer the update to my Mini?? I'm breaking new ground in my neighborhood and appear to be the only one with a Mac. These forums are great - Thanks Addie

Thanks to you and Sig for the response. We have NO APPLE STORE/OUTLET within a four hour drive, therefore your input that a PC can burn the disc is the best alternative I have. BUT what do you mean by a "hybrid" data CD? I'm a NEWBEE, so could you give me a little more specifics, i.e., what package/brand & model should I buy? I was thinking any CD-ROM would work! Thanks & sorry for my lack of experience, Addie

  • How do I store my iTunes library on an external drive and can I still access it as I would if it was still all sitting on the mini mac?

The mini mac is full and I want to be able to use the 2 tb drive as storage and time machine. How do I get the content onto the external drive and access it it and hoe does new content get downloaded and stored to the drive not the mac? Also can I have 1 drive playing storeage and back up or do I need a second? Basic questions I suspect but not to me!

    1. Drag the library to the external drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and point it there.
    2. Get a second. Having the backups on the same drive as the original data won't help when that drive fails.

  • Moving a hard drive from one Mac Mini to another to create a twin Mini Mac

I have been a PC user since before the stone age, or atleast since the comadore 64, Then I upgraded to a PC with an actual hard drive. It was huge, 12 MB!
along the road I had purchased 3 Mac laptops. All were new and I just never got used to either so I ended up selling both. About 6 years ago I got an iPhone. I have had ipods since they came out and I liked the data integration. Then an appleTV with a HD now 3 more apple TV 3s. Got an iPad 2 followed by an iPad 3 . Last fall my 2 year old 1500 dollar sony lap top with an i7 processor just would not power up at all, It was a nice PC but to be honest I used to be a Sony fan byt after losing 3 out of 4 laptops, and reading about Apples Intel processors, I thought I would try one more time. What a terriffic way to wean off of windows. I am running OSX Maverics with windows 8.1 on bootcamp. I still need windows for a few programs I am running.
One of my biggest thrills is the amount of inexpensive and even free software available on a Mac. And when a new OS comes out, I dont nmeed to fork up a minimum of 2 to 400 dolars to upgrade. Most microsoft software is very expensive.
Im saying all that to say this,
I want/need one more computer in my shop. Prior to my Mac purchase I had 2 PCs running with Windows 8-8.1 Lots o people bitched about the huge change from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 but personally I love it. Its actually more like a mac now than windows. With  running a SSD Windows 8.1 is very fast.
So when I got my Mac Mini with a 1TB hard drive, I took my 250 gb SSD out of my Sony and reformated it. Used Copy clone to clone the Mac OS to the SSD. Very fast and perfect copy. (since then I purchased Copy clone and every day at 11:30 PM CC copyies my SSD Mac Partition to the original HD.
I still havent completely figured how to do the same with my Boot Camp partition. but I purchased Win Clone. There is a fairly long process to seting up the samy system as I have for cloning my mac which is as easy as copying a folder.
    Sorry for rambeling
Here is my question. Now that I have a perfectyly cloned hard drive of the actujal hard drive I use inmy Mac Mini, I want to purchase another mac mini, 2012 same as mine. I have an i7 but to save a little I may go with an I5. Can I take that cloned hard drive and just plug it into my new Mac Mini and Viola I have two computers set up perfectly for me when it only took a few minutes. (if this is possible why would anyone ever buy a PC again. I realize a Mac Mini is not the most powerful computer out there, But as tech goes, Its about the most powerful Desk top I have ever owned. I have a secone 120GB SSD that I could then copy both OS systems to. I save all my data extrernally via USB 3 or Firewire 800 to a Promise DS 4600 with 2-3tb hard drives and room for 2 more. I mirrior these right now and have plenty of storage for me
I will use a 1 TB external drive for my shop mac,
Truthfullyu if this works, My mini macs can keep procreating other mini macs all the same configuration
Something I just never could conceve before with a PC. Each PC setup was its own Labor of love and hate. and as much backing up you do, forgfet it, Its still a major deal when one crashes! Hope I didnt run on too long
    Thanks

Can I take that cloned hard drive and just plug it into my new Mac Mini and Viola I have two computers set up perfectly
    Yes.

  • HT201262 screen on the TV flickering purple when connecting mini mac to TV through HDMI

anybody come across a problem with the TV connected to Mini mac, when i connect my HDMI cable to my TV and open up safari click onto Apple.com watch a video on their home page in full screen the screen flickers purple any ideas what could be the problem.

    Hey there Daza2014,
It sounds like you are having some graphical issues with an TV connected to your mac mini. I found this article for you to help troubleshoot what you are seeing here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
    This section in particular:
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the systemYou can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT2998 mini mac with Panasonic TV

I am considering on buying an mini mac,  to conserve space using my tv as a monitor,  can the mini mac hook up to my tv (panasomic smart viera)?

You linked from an "early 2006" Mac Mini article, which would not be what you are buying, unless you buy used or refurbished.   2010 and later Mac Minis can hook up with a single cable covering both sound and video to any HDMI capable TV.  Note with the newest one's they come with HDMI and Thunderbolt, both support audio and video, and the Thunderbolt can connect to specially labelled Displayport to HDMI adapters that support Thunderbolt.   2009 and earlier Mac Minis may need a combo sound/audio adapter.  So the first question is, does the Panasonic have HDMI?  The next one, is the age of the Mac Mini.  If you have one that has separate audio from video, does it have Displayport, or just DVI?

  • Home Media Center?  Imac Duo or Mini Mac?

Hi, will be buying a new machine soon, but, which? I really want to buy a machine that can be hooked up to a TV, HDTV that is. Is one machine better than the other? Or should I wait. Maybe a stupid question. I know the waiting answer, but really want a HDTV solution. Suggestions?
    thanks
    M

I bought a Mac Mini and the S-Video/Composite Video connector. Hooking the Mini Mac with Front Row to a regular TV is *absolutely awesome*. All DVD players and stereos should have remote controls that simple.
    However.
I intended to run the Mac Mini without a keyboard or mouse. I installed OSXvnc so I could access the Mac Mini on the network from another computer, because there is no real way to read normal text on a standard television monitor. This setup works, but it is a little clunky, especially for iPods.
Since you mention HDTV, you will be good with the DVI video output and wireless keyboard and mouse. I have run the DVI into my projector, and it works for both Front Row and normal OS. For a plain NTSC or PAL TV, it works beautifully for Front Row, but don't try to surf, email, or do much else.

  • Connect Ipod Touch to Mini Mac

Is it possable to use the mini mac as a gate way for my iPod touch using the bluetooth, as sadly I have no wirless internet and still want to connect through my ipod to update the emails I get? Also, may be a stupid question but can the itouch have the iphone OS on it as the apple website suggests that it can?

no. that is not a feature the iPod Touch supports.

yes. in fact it does. naturally, some features of the iPhone are not available on the Touch due to partially different hardware (e.g. the mobile telephony feature).

  • Mini Mac, Peripherals, and Gaming

Hello all and thanks for reading my post. I'm considering switching from Windows to Mac. I don't have the money to get an iMac yet but was thinking of getting a Mini Mac to start with. The reason for this decision leads to my 2 questions:
    1) Are peripherals from a PC (monitor & speakers, keyboard, mouse) compatible with the Mini Mac? I like my monitor, keyboard and mouse as they fit perfectly on the small desk I have. Again, I do not want to spend more money than necessary at this point.
    2) I do a large amount of gaming (MMORPGs) and wondered if the power, graphics, and system could handle that. City of Heroes is the main game I play.
Any help would be beneficial. Thanks!

Your PC peripherals should work fine with a Mini. Just make sure you get the appropriate adapter for your monitor. A Mini will serve your gaming needs quite well. Since you already have the PC version of the games you like you might consider installing Windows under Bootcamp (save you from spending money for Mac version). Some people might suggest you use PC emulation SW like Parralells or Vm Fusion. These are great for people who need to switch between Windows and OS X frequently but are subpar when it comes to gaming.

  • Mini mac and a possible broken charger unit

In a discussion with a mate he asked if I ever had problems with charger units on my mac.
He uses a mini mac in connection to an external harddrive. That external harddrive currently died during runtime.
The mini mac itself was running fine till then - but it keeps shutting itself down after 5 minutes. No chance on reboot to run it again.
Only after removing the charger from the house power socket it is rebootable.
I never had any issues with the apple chargers yet myself. Might be that the step into virtual nirvana of the external harddrive damaged the charger, though I am not aware if the charger have a return line / return duct.
Does anyone here has experience with such kind of trouble shooting?
    Cheers in advace

Several thoughts come to mind, the first of which being that the mini doesn't have a 'charger' - it has an external power brick - thus it can't run unless it is plugged in.
That aside, to troubleshoot this problem it would really be better to have the owner/user of this system post here rather than you, simply because that would give us a first hand description of the problem and allow us to ask questions about the system and its behaviour. Doing it this way can make trying to work out what's going on far more difficult.
For example, what kind of Mac mini is this; how old is it; what is it used for; what software is installed on it; are the shutdowns accompanied by any fan activity; does the system simply shut down or are there any error messages or other dialog boxes on the display; what happens when an attempt is made to reboot it after a shutdown; how much time is needed after shutting down before it starts up again......?
My first reaction to the symptoms as briefly described is that the system is suffering from an overheating problem since the mini is designed to go into protective shutdown if it gets too hot. If that were the case then it would run a lot longer when started from cold than it would when rebooted after running a while. It isn't likely to be a problem with the power supply, since typically these either work or don't, but it isn't possible to rule it out completely until we have more information. The only way that the hard drive's power supply could have an effect is if it failed with a short circuit on the live side, which could be expected to pull down the mini's supply if it were plugged into the same power socket, though it would just as easily blow a house fuse/trip a breaker in that situation.

I have bought adobe creative suite 3 design premium for 6 year ago. Is it possible to update it? I am working on mini Mac 10.9.5.

    Thanks for answer and question
My adobe suite 3 is on CD. I didn’t installed it in my computer that time.  I wait too long to bay a new computer.  And now 6 year after it doesn’t fit to the Mac OSX 10.9.5 I bought in 2013. My problem is that the CD with programs cost much money in 2007. I read on Adobe webpage that there is a special offer for CS user (40% discount). How can i get it?
Mybe the best for me is to sell my suite 3 CD. The development goes too fast for me. It is too expensive to bay pr month full version creative cloud. My be the only solution is photoshop with lightroom.

  • Imac dome to mini mac

I have an imac dome that works great on the kitchen counter. I would like to drop a mini mac in it to bring it up to date. the question is how do connect the monitor? I am not concerned about using the disk dirve. Anyone try it??

Because of the round shape of the iMac G4 versus the square shape of the Mac mini, I will not work. In order to power up the iMac G4's display, most if it has to remain in place. The iMac will not power up unless it passes the startup self test.
Also, how would you access the Mac mini's optical drive and ports inside the dome, if you somehow manage to clear enough volume to put the Mac mini inside.

  • Does programming/developing work well with the mini mac

has anyone downloaded wcode 4 using the mini mac and is there problems with using this application for developement on the mini mac

    mpap,
The thread bananaman referenced is one reason I posted my question here.  Perhaps I was just lucky, I received my T500 March 20th and the ATI 3650 worked fine right out of the box with Google Earth 5.0.  If yours is reasonably new I don't see why it shouldn't work as well.
By default GE chose OpenGL for the Graphics Mode (see Tools/Options/3D View in GE).  I'd suggest checking the Graphics Mode setting in GE.  I'd also check to see that your ATI card is actually being used, and that your on-board graphics isn't being used instead.  Apart from that I have nothing else to offer as I didn't need to fool around with anything for it to work.  But I have worked with other computers where GE's defaults didn't work and some fiddling had to be done with the Graphics Mode settings.  So you might want to try DirectX mode, and even try checking the "Use safe mode" box so see if that makes any difference.
    Good luck,
    Frank

  • PPC Mini Mac - Damaged OS, CD Stuck in Drive

    Greetings,
A friend brought me her broken Mini Mac today. Apparently she turned it off as usual one evening and the next day it would only boot up to a gray screen and eventually an old OS 9 logo flashing a question mark. Sounds like a corrupt system to me.
I tried resetting PRAM, NVRAM, and PMU all to no avail. I booted into Open Firmware and reset-all which also did nothing. Still have the gray screen which eventually displays the OS 9 logo/question mark.
Booting into the boot loader showed no operating system installed, or to be specific, it showed nothing at all except a refresh arrow and an arrow pointing to the right.
To make matters even more complex, there is a CD in the drive that refuses to eject. I have tried holding down the left mouse button on power up, that didn't work. I held down the "T" key, wouldn't boot at all when I did that, I just got a black screen and no hard disc spin.
I then booted back into Open Firmware and typed "eject cd" only to have the error "can't OPEN the EJECT device" after waiting for about 5 minutes for a response.
So . . . . is this thing a paper weight at this point? Is there any recourse short of pulling it all apart to rescue my friend's data from the HD? (Oh the joys of teeny tiny screws.) Is there any way to physically eject a CD from one of these drives? On "standard" drives there's a opening that the end of a paper clip fits into to force an eject.
Thanks ahead of time for any and all assistance.
    Peace,
    Gail

    Hi,
the first thing you should do is find another Mac, and a Firewire cable to hook them both up. You start the working Mac with the FW cable connecting it to the Mac mini. Then you start the Mac mini while you press "T" on its keyboard. After 2 to three seconds, the Mac mini's display should depict a Firewire symbol, while the HD and CD of the Mac mini appear in the Finder of the host computer. Eject the CD like you would on the Mac mini, and it should come out.
From there, you should also start the Drive Utility and check and repair the HD, which could already fix the problem. Then backup the most important data.
Otherwise, you are free to insert the Mac mini's Installation CDs to start from them, diagnose and reinstall the system.
    Hope that helps!
