Question on Movie Rental

Hello all.
This will be the first time I am renting a movie and I got a couple of questions.
This is from the iTS Movie Rental Support Docu:
• You can only play your rented movies on the computer you rented it from and only if it is authorized to play your iTunes Store purchases and rentals.
Please refer to the last point; *Query: If I rent and download a movie from my iMac (main computer), can I transfer it to my MacBook?* OR that I just have to rent it off my MacBook? Because I was thinking of syncing the rental to my iPod and iPhone too (just in case) and they are connected/sync to my iMac.
Merry Christmas and Cheers!

I think as you read more you will find that if you transfer the rental it will be deleted from the other device. You cannot have a rental on 2 devices. You have 30 days to view the movie - once you start viewing you have 24 hours to view it as many times as you want - then the content will automatically delete.

  • Question about Movie Rentals

When you rent a movie, how long is the rental good for? When time runs out, does it delete itself from your hard drive? Does it stay on the iPod until you sync or does it stop working there after a certain amount of time?
    Thanks for the answers!

Does anyone else think 24 hours is too short for a movie rental?
I watch these on my iPhone when I have time over a 2-3 day period.
I think 48 should be the minimum and possibly 72 hours.
Who/where can make concern know to Apple?
    Thanks.

  • Question about Movie Rental Times and AirPlay

Just wondering. I have been sitting with my Apple TV2 since I got it this morning with it saying to download an hd movie. 1920 minutes remaining.I can get a faster download off my computer so that comes to my second question. Can I rent it on my computer and airplay it to my Apple TV?
Oh and my network speed is 3mbs. Not alot I know... But is that ok?

Are either of you using a DNS server / name server other than the one provided by your Internet service provider? OpenDNS or Google's DNS service, for instance? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, probably not.) There have been a number of reports suggesting that this can result in slow media downloads due to the way the movie servers try to optimize delivery based on your location, though it's unclear to me how accurate this really is.
Also, be aware that by default, the new Apple TVs provide "hi-def" rentals from the iTunes store (this is not applicable to Netflix), which means a larger and therefore longer download. To rent standard definition, you have to go into Settings and switch rentals to standard definition.

  • HT1657 Using a VGA adaptor with iPad 1 for iTunes movie rentals?

I have an iPad 1 with a VGA adaptor to display supported apps on external displays like YouTube and GoodReader. I tried to use this with a rented SD movie from iTunes and I got a warning along the lines of  "output device not supported for protected material." Is there a way to do play iTunes rentals on an external display from the iPad? This is simple on a MacBook.
    Thanks,

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657?viewlocale=en_US
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • HD Movie Rentals

A few questions re HD movie rentals.
What exactly does HD mean? Is it the same quality as Blu-ray (i.e., 1080P)?
Any difference in picture quality between component vs HDMI connection?

All the AppleTV specs are on their website.
They currently offer 720HD movies (which look as good to the eye as 1080 on many HDTVs and the file size in considerably smaller - so "win-win"!). I'm sure many folks will be happy to offer you their "definitions" of "True HD".
And similarly, you probably wont notice the difference between component and HDMI, but the purists will tell you HDMI is sharper as it remains a digital signal.

  • IPad "cannot open" iTunes movie rentals

I am travelling / I rented 2 ,movies for the plane but did it from an old 32bit Macbook. They transferred fine to the iPad but when I tried to open them I got the "Cannot Open" message. Result - did not get to watch my rentals ! I have an idea the fact that I purchased on an old generation Macbook Pro is the issue ?
They are still on my iPad (and presumably still somewhow registered in my account)
I happen to be travelling with a 64bit Macbook Pro (should have purchased from here in the first place !!)
I am thinking there might be a way to resync my iPad with my 64 bit Macbook and resync the movies so that I can at least watch them on of before the flight home next week
    Ideas appreciated ?

  • Movie rental has no sound or picture just gray screen

Anyone find a solution to this? I cant figure this out and have tried everything

I experienced similar issues with movie rentals. The movies downloaded successfully, but when I attempt to play them on my PC, all I get is a black screen, no audio, nothing. Never received any type of error messages. I can however still play some previously "purchased" movies from my library (prior to me upgrading to v. 8.2.0.2). Before this upgrade I also had never had any problems with movies. Based on several other postings I have seen, it definitely appears to be a software/itunes upgrade issue and not our individual PCs with the problem. I wrote to customer/tech support about my problem, this was their response,(and none of their suggestions fixed my issue so I still can not watch movies).
Also, still waiting on iTunes to offer a refund for the movies I purchased since I never viewed any of them..........still waiting.

  • Quick question:  Buying movies - HD?

I'm totally frustrated with the support pages - maybe someone here can help me. It's a simple question, really.
Obviously, if you rent a movie and it is available in HD, you have the option to rent it in HD. But - if you choose to BUY it, will it be in HD?
    Thanks in advance!

The lack of HD movies for purchase is a restriction that I am sure is placed by the movie studios, at least for now. As far as I know, none of the other online movie rental services, such as Netflix or Roku, offer HD movies for sale, either. With HD TV shows now available for purchase in the iTunes store, I think it's only a matter of time before movies follow suit.
As for becoming obsolete, various reports have it that Apple TV sales have actually been on the increase since the movie rental service started. I'm generally inclined to rent movies rather than buy them because I rarely watch the same movie more than once.

  • Apple TV Movie Rentals UK

    I have a dumb question.
I understand that the UK is gonna get movies, long after USA, but I just wondered if there is anywhere online we can express an interest in certain movies, just so Apple can pressure the studio's to allow them to be sold over here.
For example, in the states you guys (and gals) have access to all the Pixar movies, yet we in the UK only have 2.
We have none of the Die Hard series, only 1 Bourne movie, etc.
I understand that we are at the whim of the studio's as to when movies will be made available over here. But if we had a way of highlighting to them what movies we're interested in seeing, then it should ease their decision on when to release over here.
    Just a thought.

    ParishYoung wrote:
And you know what, while I'm here, what's the deal with the price difference between Apple TV in US and the Apple TV in the UK?? (the device not the movie rentals / purchases)
When the US movie rental service was announced they dropped the US price significantly. This has not happened in the UK which is a shame, particularly with the Take 2.0 interface being extrenely iTunes Store centric vs the previous interface which was designed around your media in iTunes (purchased or home made).
For a device that's almost 18 month old, I think the price is starting to look rather high now that it's gone from a media extender (which is still is, and a great one) to a rent/buy online from Apple type sales pitch.
The economic climate isn't great, and if people are short of cash then from a rental perspective £200 up front for the privilege of renting from your armchair is steep, and they'll keep going to blockbuster or wherever and save the £200.
I personally think that AppleTv's a very sophisticated device for the price, but when people these days regard a DVD player for £20 from Asda as good value, then justifying £200 for an AppleTV isn't really going to happen for the average man on the street.
