Question on Quide resolution with SD override set

I have a question concerning SD override and Quide resolution.
I gather that the Quide resolution is whatever is set with "SD Override?"
I have SD Override set to 480 as that gives the best overall SD experience.   I don't mind the ocassional hiccups as the STB and TV resynch between 480 and 1080 and back.   I was just curious to know if I could keep the guide in 1080 and reserve 480 only for SD channels.  I can't find anything in the menus.
I have the Cisco STB with 1.9.7 build 19.46 software.
Thanks!

Hello!
Thanks for the reply!
Yes, you are correct -- the Cisco STB is a HD box.   I have it connected to my 40" RCA HD TV with a HDMI cable.  I watch a mix of SD and HD channels -- and since Verizon and Weather Channel have yet to work out a deal to give local weather on HD, I have to go to the SD Weather channel or SD Weatherscan to see local weather reports.
My curiosity is that SD PQ looks best when setting "SD Override" in the STB's video settings to 480i or 480p as opposed to "off" or "stretch."   Doing this however, puts the guide in permanent SD mode even though I have the STB guide settings set to display the guide in HD as opposed to SD.  HD channels appear as HD regardless of how I set "SD Override".   The guide doesn't look all that hot in SD mode with my TV.
So, I have "SD Override" set to "stretch" and improved things a bit on viewing SD on my HD box by reducing the video sharpness settings, that is, moving to soft settings, on both the STB and the TV.  High sharpness settings actually makes the SD PQ worse.
The other strange thing is that I get text flicker with some SD channels -- like text on Weatherscan, sports scores, etc. -- but I can correct that simply by turning the STB off and then on again while keeping the TV on.  Viola!  The STB and the TV synch up right and the annoying flicker goes away.  It will stay that way so long as I keep watching SD channels.   I stray to a HD channel, go back to SD, and the flicker is there again.  I simply power-cycle the STB and it clears up.   By power cycle I don't mean a reset, simply turn the STB off and back on again while the TV is still on.  That I can't figure out.
Just curiosities.  I figure Verzon and co. doesn't have the chance to improve things unless we give good feedback.

  • Silly question. What is with the Mbps setting?

I'm on here again with yet another network question. In Airport Utility under Airport wireless tab there is a button that says "wireless options" after clicking that button you are presented with some options. The option I am inquiring about is the Mbps setting. What is it? Mine is set on 6 Mbps by default. Should I increase it to, say 18Mbps for increased signal strength or connectivity, or am I just an idiot?
As usual any input is welcomed
    Thanks,
    Alex

I think you mean the "multicast" setting. I think this is so that adequate bandwidth is set aside for such purposes as streaming video.

  • Presenter 8 -- need help with proper settings to allow quiz retake (with a NEW set of questions from a random pool)

We are publishing a Presenter 8 quiz to an LMS in a SCORM format.  I am having trouble with the following:  the quiz is built with multiple question groups, and a limited number of questions are being selected from each group.  E.g. we have 80+ questions in total, and 25 are presented to a user on a given attempt.
When a user fails the quiz and exits the quiz normally, we want them to study and try again.  I set the quiz settings to allow infinite attempts, and set the LMS settings to make sure the quiz is not presented in "review mode".  When I test this quiz by failing it the first time, when I reenter the quiz, I am taken to the last slide in the quiz (which is the last one I viewed), and I can retake the quiz by navigating back to the first question.
Here's the problem:  I am presented with the SAME set of questions, rather than a NEW set of random questions.  This will facilitate cheating (all a user has to do is take the quiz once, review the answers, and then take it again to pass it).
How do I insure that the user is presented with a NEW set of questions when I retake the quiz?
I am open to upgrading to Adobe Presenter 10, but would rather not have to do so.  There must be some setting I'm missing.

  • Issue with BPF, OVERRIDE and AUTOREFRESH

    Hi,
we are working with BPC 7.0 SP3 for Microsoft and we are experiencing an issue when opening reports or input schedules from a BPF: if we a set the override current view function for one or more dimensions the report is not refreshed and shows 0 values.
The report seems to be correctly configured, and when we open it from the report library (not from the BPF) everything works fine.
The error did not happen with BPC 5.1: we manged to replicate the error also on a simple application with a very basic report (only a cell with EVGET with the override).
Did anyone of you experienced a similar issue or found any possible solution?
    Thanks for your help,
    Davide

    Hi All,
The Issue with BPF is solved.
When we cheked the mbr table populated from data manager package, some of the cols were populated with NULL, where as when populated fron front end(excel sheet), it was filled with blank values '' instead of Null.
When populating the mbr table from data manage package, ensure to fill all the columns of the mbr table with appropriate data or blank values but not NULL. None of the cols should have NULL.
We ensured this and tried the BPF, its working.
Hope this explaination helps somebody trying with automation of dim processing using DM pkg.

  • Has anyone with Windows successfully set up "Accounts" disk file sharing?

I bought an Airport Extreme basestation (the one with Wifi-N and gigabit ethernet)a few days ago and set it up on the network.
So far the wifi part has been nice - the range and speed (and stability) are a lot better than the Belkin draft-N wifi I had been using.
I've also been able to share a few FAT-32 USB disks (Iomega brand) using the "with device password" option and it seems to work nicely in this mode.
But what I really want to do is setup access by the "with a disk password" and via "accounts" - but after several hours of troubleshooting and checking on the Internet, I get the impression that neither work.
For example, when I am sharing the disks in Device mode, I can connect to the IP from windows explorer and access using any user name and the device password. This works great.
When I set it to "Disk" mode - it doesn't work at all - no matter what user name and password are used. I tried using both the disk and device password. I get a windows error "... is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource..." which is consistent with the user and password authentication failure. I have the same experience when setting the disk sharing for "Account" mode.
Repeated rebooting of the Airport Extreme and Laptop did not help at all. I also tried after killing the Airport utility/assistant that sits in the task bar as it seems useless. The results are the same with the utility activated or not.
    A few more details:
I have the Airport Extreme in 'bridge' mode - the IP is generated by a broadband router connected to a cable modem. I updated the firmware from the 7.2.1 that came installed to the latest (7.3.2).
I read on the Internet a number of posts from both Mac and Windows users reporting bugs in the security software on the airport for filesharing. So my question is - has anyone with a Windows (XP, vista, etc) gotten the file sharing to work with anything other than Device mode? Eg. Disk mode, Account mode, etc?
I know several people that use these devices, but nobody is using in this mode. I talked 2 friends to try setting up users and they couldn't get it to work either. But it's not a big deal to them since they don't use that feature.
If anyone is using it like this, I'd like to know how you set it up. If you had this problem and what you did to fix it. Thanks!

I suspect I may never know why, but now, inexplicably, everything is working.
Out of curiosity, I tried to connect via an older win2000 machine that we use for a file server and it worked!
After we rebooted the other XP machines, they started working too.
I'm sure the fix was anything but connecting a win2000 machine, but I'm just happy it works now!

  • Locking Screen Resolution with KVM

I have a MacBook Pro 15" running 10.4.8. I have a Iogear DVI KVM attached to the DVI port. The monitor attached to the KVM is a Gateway FPD2485W 24" LCD with optimal resolution of 1920x1200. The Mac performs wonderfully at this resolution.
The problem I have is that when I switch away from the Mac with the KVM for more than a moment and then switch back, the Mac reverts to 1024x768 with a "KVM Monitor" profile in the Display Prefs. If I press "Detect Displays" after switching back, it once again properly recognizes my Gateway and then switches to the correct 1920x1200 resolution.
Is there any fix for this? Is there any way to "lock" the DVI port resolution somehow, or maybe to modify the "KVM Monitor" profile so it allows 1920x1200 resolution as well? Any other options to fix this? It is annoying to have to have the Mac detect the monitor and maximize my windows every time I switch back to it.
    Any help is appreciated!
    T.

I'm sorry, I've been investigating this as well. I use an ioGear KVM with VGA, the one that's shaped like the Mac mini I use it with. It has gotten worse. I find that I simply have to turn off sleep altogether, or else I find I'm switching to a blank screen on the mini. Sometimes I solved the problem by touching the sleep button and then waking it up. It seems to be in a forgetful coma.
Other irritations: if I'm away from the mini for a while, when I go back, there is the Bluetooth "wizard," looking for the USB keyboard and mouse. When I'm running Windows in Parallels, the problem is worse, freezing up Windows.
By turning off sleep, I've ameliorated the problem greatly. But I still will return to, in my case, not a 1280x1024 screen, but 640 x 480. Then it blacks out, and when it returns with my default setting, windows are only half as high: the desktop may be 1280x1024, but Safari looks like 1280x512. Grr.

Sounds like your management needs a stern lecture on the concept of change management. <g>
I am not debating what you do. I am questioning the logic, or lack thereof, of doing it that way. My recommendation would be to change your procedure to one that:
    A. Is more in line with good change management practices.
    B. Works.

  • Problems changing the Open with... setting

    Hi,
Having recived my new MacBook Pro with the trial version of Office 2004 I removed this using the remove utility as I have the full version of Office X.
However, I get the error code -10660 when I try and open documents. I have tracked this down to the fact that the default Open with... setting is Word 2004 etc.
I can manually select the correct program to open these files with, but when I set it so that all files with .doc open with this older version of Word it defaults back to the new version. (I am using the Change All... option under the Get Info option).
If I manually do this using Open with.. for each file it works, but this is both time consuming and silly.

  • What is the different with the NLS setting in installation

    I mean,
1.when I install the Oracle, set the native LANG to one(call it A), and client access it with the NLS set to another(call it B), what the different between if I install it with B directly? the client can get same result, isn't it?
2.For I upgrade a Oracle7 to oracle8i, the NLS keep unchanged(ASCII), both the server and the Client(developed with developer2000) runs OK. But I need exchange data with another Oracle8, whose NLS is different(ZHKGB2312,I forget it). when I upgraded the server(change to the same one,zhkgb2312), the original table size changed from 6 to 12, so the client can not run correctly.
Did anybody meet the same thing? and any advice for me to solve this problem?

    >>when I install the Oracle, set the native LANG to one(call it A),
You mean your database was created using character set A ?
    >>and client access it with the NLS set to another(call it B)
You mean your client NLS_LANG character set is B ?
what the different between if I install it with B directly? the client can get same result, isn't it?
From reading your 2nd question, I am guessing that you have Chinese data in both of your USA7ASCII and ZHKGB2312 database, and you want to exchange data between them. I am sure that this is working for all your English ASCII data, but not for the Chinese 2 byte data. This is because Oracle handles the character set conversions between the databases (character set conversion occurs only when the 2 character sets are different),the real problem is that you are using the wrong database character set to store your chinese data; US7ASCII can not process Chinese data correctly, they got into your database because you set the client character set to be the same as the database character set, hence you are fooling Oracle that you are feeding in US7ASCII data.
When you try to exchange data between databases, Oracle does not know how to receive or send these Chinese character from inside an US7ASCII database, it does not know what character set these 8 bit characters are encoded in, US7ASCII should contain 128 characters only.
Please refer to the Globalization Support FAQ - on the Globalization Support website http://technet.oracle.com/tech/globalization/content.html

  • Performance problems with multicam sync sets

I'm working on editing a concert video where we have up to 8 cameras.  The whole concert is in one big multicam sync set (imported from PluralEyes).
And my computer just isn't hacking it.  Intel core 2 quad 2.67GHz, 16GB ram, Windows 7 64-bit, and I just added a pair of 7200RPM local data disks in a striped configuration for performance.  Graphics card is an Nvidia GT 630.   This is well past the recommended hardware, but of course the processor and motherboard are a bit old.  (Oh, and OS disk is a 256GB SSD, and there's an 80GB SSD for scratch and stuff; the source files for the concert exceed 500GB hence can't be on those.)
When I open the multicam set in the source viewer, it takes more than 30 seconds to come up with the set of camera views.  And when I click on another spot in the playback line, it takes forever or longer (i.e. it never does) to come up with the new set of views.  moving a frame left or right sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't.
Watching the resource monitor while this is going on, I can't tell what's really going on.  It hasn't consumed nearly all the memory, and disk traffic isn't extreme (and goes to zero in the case where it never does display the right view).
I first thought the problem was editing from an external USB3 disk, hence the upgrade with the local striped pair of real disks; but that made only a marginal improvement.  I've checked graphics driver version, and that's current.  Premiere says it's using CUDA.
And I don't have any real option of spending another $500 to upgrade things right now.
Wondering -- is the total length of the multicam set possibly an issue?  It seems like Premiere would really only deal with parts close to where the playback head was, and the total length wouldn't be a big deal.  I suspect the *width* is the problem, because narrower sets have been less trouble.  That's harder to try to fix right now unfortunately :-( .
I did also try this on my laptop -- i7 processor, 8GB, but not separate graphics (Intel 3000 I think, no CUDA).  Had to use the external USB 3 drive there (internal drive is small SSD).  Ended up behaving essentially the same as the desktop, no better no worse.   So *just* upgrading the disks isn't the answer based on the desktop trial, and *just* upgrading the processor isn't the answer based on the laptop trial.  Is there a clear answer?

I just ran a test with a 8x multicam AVCHD project (1920x1080x29.97) in your behalf. Here's how I set in up, and here's what I measured during an un-rendered (real time) playback:
On my 8-core cpu, loading was about 46% (indicates with a FAST 4-core CPU, you might just be OK
I limited Adobe CC 2014 to only use 12GB of RAM (approximating the performance with your 16GB system)
    GPU was pretty much idle
Disk reads ~ 23 MB/s; disk writes ~1.5 MB/s (not too much disk activity here really, your SSDs sound fine)
Playback was perfect with zero lost frames (playback resolution = full); scrubbing was usable, but somewhat sluggish (at full playback resolution and limited to 12GB of RAM); When I bumped RAM available to Premiere up to 32GB, scrubbing was perfect (snappy) even with playback resolution set to full
Bottom line, you may actually be able to do a sub-$500 upgrade that would really help your current system. What motherboard do you have now?
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Kde screen resolution with nvidia driver

    Hi,
I am completely new to ArchLinux.  I really enjoyed installing it and its a hoot to play around with!
I am having a problem getting the screen resolution to work well with the monitor and the resolution with KDE 4.3.  I found that by changing the resolution to 1024x768 and changing the refresh rate to 53 or 54hz, the fonts that otherwise display horribly with the nvidia driver and installed nvidia card will suddenly become beautiful.  I went to Kmenu, Settings, then display settings, and changed the configuration, and everything worked great.
But on next boot up after I have shut down the computer, X doesn't remember these settings and the fonts look terrible again.  If I open the kmenu again and look at the display settings, they are still set at 1024x768 and 54 hz.  Once I have looked at them, the screen on the monitor goes dark for a second.  Then the computer knows that I want those settings without me changing anything, and adjusts to them without having to hit the apply button.  Then the fonts look great again.
How can I get the display to start with those settings?  I have tried several configurations of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file without success, so I need some help.
    Thanks

I know some time back using nvidia driver with my particular monitor, i had to tell it what resolution/refresh rate to use by default or else X would make a poor choice as to what it wanted the default to be (put me in 800x600 or something like that  by default).  I was able to tell X to default to what I wanted by adding in a Metamode line in my xorg.conf, i think under the screen section. I'm out right now and won't be back to my box to look up exactly what I did, but hopefully this might give a starting point if you havent tried it already.  Metamodes in xorg.conf under the Display section if i remember right.  I specified a resolution there and it now uses that as the default.

  • Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage and it is playing back in slow motion?

Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage shot using .MOV wrapper with their IPB 50mbps and All-Intra 72MBPS codecs and they are playing back in slow motion in Sg CC. The footage works fine in PP CC and I have no clue on how to fix it. Is this a bug or do I a have a setting wrong some place?

Yes it turns red this is silly PP and AE have no problem with playback for these codecs. So it is indeed Sg not handling the codec correctly and not my system?
What if I transcoded it to something else other than the previous what would you reccommend?
I was going to transcode to ProRes but 5DtoRGB does not work on Windows with GH3 codecs.
What is the correct time warp seting under clip properties? I screwed with it and forgot the default setting.
Is there a way to reset Sg back to defaults settings globaly. I tried to many settings trying to fix the playback and may have left something in the wrong state.
    Thanks...
