Question on sound qual

I own a zen micro. Will I notice a change in sound quality if i change from the stock earphones to sharp md33s/creative ep630?
The catch is that all of my mp3s are from limewire and 70% of them is 28 bitrate. Only 5% are above 200. And some are not quality ri
ps.
Will I still notice an increase in sound quality to justify me buying better earphones?

28 is a decent enough bitrate, but with nice enough headphones you can hear distortion in it too.
The better and better headphones you get, the better it sounds. 28Kb/s is enough to hear a difference in the audio quality, but it depends on how nice teh headphones are.
One big thing is their ability to reproduce low-end sound, which 28Kb/s music DOES have (it is the high end sounds that are usually lost when encoding). only nicer headphones can do that. some good ones are the Sony MDR-EX-7 earbuds, any Bose headset, and many many others. Question 2
When ever there is an external speaker source (i.e. docked in windows speak), i always want it to automatically use the external speakers. These speakers are USB. I seem to have to play with settings when I reconnect to the speakers to change the sound from the internal speakers.
Question 3
When I disconnect the external speakers, it automatically moves the sound to play out of the internal speakers (and back to the external when they are reconnected). This is happening via a KVMP switch, but happens with no KVMP switch with speakers just pluged into mac. Is there a way to prevent this from automaticaly happening? Is does not happen if the external speakers use the RCA type 3.5 jack; it only happens with USB speakers.

Just bought a Macbook Pro and have questions about sound libraries

I just bought the lower end Macbook Pro 200 GB Mem/2GB Ram. I installed Logic Studio on it. I have about 129 GB memory left. My question is, how does anybody deal with installing Libraries. On my main desktop, I got a separate hard-drive which holds about 150 GB of sound Libraries which I pretty much use. I could not even put this on my Macbook. I would like to work on my files on my new Macbook but would have half of the sounds missing if I work on an existing file (transferring from my Desktop to my macbook) How does everybody else deal with this. A separate ext HD?

Hello - It seems to me that there is a total mess on Logic Studio Installer that doesn't allow one to install the Jam Packs onto an external drive, if that's where you keep your sound libraries. Why is no one from Apple responding to this post, probably because they know what a dogs dinner the installer is. The run through on the install insists on a system disk to load all the listed software. My Ibook has no room for all the Jam Packs and other audio data, so I did a basic install of just the program packages, invested in a 250GB firewire portable for my libraries. I then tried to install the Jam Packs onto my external drive but have to go back to the main installer, which although is aware of the application install, insists upon my system drive as the disk to use even when you tell it to install media only. Incredibley bad, bad, bad error Apple. The only work around I can find is to actually install the Jam packs then move them to the external hard drive and then use the browser for access - I have no idea as of yet how this will affect other operations. And why is there not just a simple setting ( like all good programs PROTOOLS , ABLETON LIVE ) where one selects the path for the Library. Still can't believe how bad an error can get onto a finished product from Apple. Kinda totally disgusted, Is this just Garageband with some Bells & whistles? I've been editing sound for film for the last 10 years, so I know my way around, but this is just stupid. If anyone knows the answer , as this is a question as well as a rant please do respond. Maybe someone from Apple ?

QUESTION ROUTING SOUND!!!!!!!

I was wondering if it was possible to route sound on my macbook pro. For instance, if I plug in headphones, all the sound goes through them and plays in my ears. Same thing for external computer speakers. But my main question is, how can play sound lets say Skype through my laptops speakers but also have music from itunes playing through my headphone jack into my external speakers at the same time. So my computer is outputing sound into 2 sets of speakers.

Audigy 2 Value ed. poor sound qual

Greetings Creative forum community.
I bought an Audigy 2 value card a few years ago at my staples when it was on sale. Recently I completed a project to digitize a stack of records on behalf of my boss. I figured it would be a good idea to pull the card out so I could do it right with a true line in.
Well, the line in worked just fine, and although the transfer, normalization, track splitting, and burning was tedious, I got it all done.
The problem is, whenever I play sound back through this card, it sounds really bad unless I back the 'play control' slider down (this seems to be the same slider as master volume for most cards). It's hard to even describe the way it sounds - it's not distortion in the traditional sense, it's like a huge spike in the upper midrange, which makes everything sound incredibly honky, like it's being played through a tin can. When I back the slider down to about 50%, it cleans up, but it still sounds thinner than I think it should, and is well below line-level (as referenced by my other components).
My current setup? is this card into a Hafler series 95 preamp into a onkyo m-505 power amp.
As a side question, do any of you know of a card that will output a true line level? I am sick of this mixer garbage. I have components to take care of that.

well for giggles i took my card out and used the onboard sound to see it there was any difference.
the onboard is AC97 realtek. the shotgun and quake4 sounds were much better. all the sounds were there but of course it did not sound as rich as audigy does.
so my experiment showed that it is a driver problem. i am guessing no one else has had this problem.

Lots of questions about Sound Cards and DJ'ing

I am thinking about purchasing a MacBook. First some background. I play in a wedding/corporate band who occasionally hires a DJ to play in between our sets. Sometime I just bring out my Ipod and plug in to avoid this cost. Most DJ's we use bring out a laptop and just plug directly into our PA. I started looking into laptops so we could cut out The DJ cost all together.
In my research I found that Mac's seem to be the Laptop of choice for most DJ's. My question is about the sound card inside the Macs. Is it a good quality. Would I need to upgrade in order for it to sound good going through a PA system. What are the audio outputs for Macs? As I said before I sometimes just use my Ipod and that sounds pretty good but its hard to search for things etc. And which Macbook do you think I should be looking at. The Pro or the regular?

General question about sound libraries and instruments in Logic

I am possibly looking to upgrade from Logic Express 8 to Logic Pro, mostly to take advantage of the vast sound library's and software instruments. My question is to those who are familiar with the sounds, vintage instruments etc. I have a Nord Stage piano with incredible acoustic and electric piano samples...I'm thinking of selling my Nord but I don't want to lose the incredible instrument recreations...can the sounds in Logic Pro compete with the real thing for trained ears?

It doesn't matter.
When someone listens to your song it doesn't matter what type of instrument you use, real or not.
If the melody isn't there, no one is going to remember your song.
You know when you get the song right when people hum it while walking, taking the bus, etc...
What they don't talk about is, hey, Sweetsonic used a pretty good Nord on that one song....
Buy Logic 8 cause the massive amount of instruments you get with it will help you explore other instruments, which can lead to a creative song.
Look at the Beatles, when George Harrison experimented with the Sitar, they got more classic songs.

PC soundcard output's division with Y-adapter - possible? & does it affect the sound quali

Does the quality of the signal, quality of sound or power of the signal weaken in anyway if I split one of the soundcard's 3,5mm (/8'') output for two speakers with an 3,5mm Y-adapter?The soundcard is X-Fi ExtremeMusic and speakers connected are S750 Gigaworks. I have an extra set of those speakers and I thought if I'd connect another S750 main unit to get a double subwoofer. I have no intention of connection any of the satellites to the second S750, so just a second sub and it's divided channel signal from the soundcard. I'd be connecting the Y-adapter to the speaker-end of the cable which comes from the soundcard. The cable is?Creative's modified 3x3,5mm/4x3,5mm 7.-cable, aprox. ,8m in length, but I also do have?an Creative's DDTS-00 decoder in between the soundcard and the S750 unit, so make it two times ,8 meters?and in the middle of?those two a?decoder's?separate source switchbox, which is used to alternate the signal to the speakers either from the soundcard or from the external decoder. After reading your post I did upgrade to Firefox 4 Beta 9 and the memory usage gone down substantially but it's still around 200 MB to 370 MBs... even with just one tab opened.
Though much better than 1656 MB :)

i'm in the market for an mp3 player and my 2 main options are the zen micro and the zen touch. The only thing that is keeping me from going w/ the micro is the song storage. i know i can get 2500 songs w/ 64kbps, but only 250 w/ 28kb
ps.
i've heard the sound quality is superb, so would i even need to record w/ the 28kbps or just the 64, is the sound any better? if its about the same, i'll go w/ the micro. also, any major things i need to know about either player (huge bugs or anything)? any other mp3 player suggestions (other than the "pod" ) also, could i just record songs from windows media player straight to the player? thanks. feel free to post whatever u think is important.

I play WMA's at 96kbps and the sound quality is great. I sometimes hear new things in songs I didn't before. I can't say about 64kbps WMA's though.
I have had none of the freezing problems. My first Zen Micro did go back though because there was a "black spec" of dust of something under the screen. That Micro froze several times. The one I exchanged it for I think froze the first time I used it, but in the two weeks since then it has not froze at all.
I love that as soon as I hit the power button, I am hearing music. There is zero lag time between hitting the power button and hearing music.
It was a tough choice though between the Touch. I decided to make a superficial decision and go with the Micro just because the thought of owning the Micro made me excited. The Zen Touch had no wow factor at all to me. Stupid, yes, but hey, it's your money right? Plus, I love laughing at fool iPod Mini owners. At least the Zen Micro is fully featured (FM tuner, voice recorder, 5gb) for it's price.
I got black (because the only other option in Japan is silver right now) and love the color. It's badass looking, especially if it's whipped out in the semi-dark.

Question on Sound forge pro mac with Logic.

I would liketo know if the plug-ins that come with Sound forge pro Mac could be used with Logic directly like using 3rd party plugins.SF has a whooe bunch of plugins but wil be able to use those plug ins ,like EQ ,Exciter, etc as induvidual plugins on a Logic project without having to export the wav file into Sound Forge?

The answer is No if it's anything like the PC version. The plugins are proprietary and only usable in Sound Forge, just as Logic's are only usable in Logic.
However, I don't know this ti be 100%, true.

SoundBlaster Live! 24 and Vista - Deteriorating Sound Qual

I've recently upgraded to Vista Business, and my system informs me that except for the drivers for an ancient scanner all is working properly.
When playing music (using a Creative SB Li've 24bit card with the most recent driver installed), all starts off well (in fact playback is better than under XP Pro) but the sound quality starts to deteriorate badly, especially when I open a browser. Quite often the browser itself seems to freeze.
I have 3Gb RAM, with a 3.60Ghz P4 processor.
Task Manager tells me that often I am running at 00% of CPU capacity, though the problem seems to occur at lower usage too.
I've checked everything I know to check but just can't seem to get to the root of the problem. Can anyone suggest anything I should be looking at?

Sadly no real progress.
I simply pulled the Soundblaster Live 24 out of the computer and am using the onboard sound instead which at least for me Arch recognized just fine.
I haven't been able to get any suggestions for why the Soundblaster was not working, but I am going to try another sound card a friend lent me and see what happens.
